When you order a loose leaf tea, you can pick any jar off the wall, which has an impressive selection of green, black, and herbal teas, clearly labeled. I went with the cucumber mojito green tea. Didn't have much of a cucumber taste but I quite enjoyed it. The staff were very friendly, bringing food out to the tables as ordered. Stopped in this cute little coffee shop for grabbing some warm coffee on a cold day - is a standalone place. Great atmosphere since the moment we walked in and just loved everything about this place. Coffee was excellent, we had their café latte and ordered their cookie and biscotti with it. Both tasted just perfect. They have a good selection of desserts. For the coffee their milk choices are many - soy, coconut, almond etc. and they also have a vast selection of tea. Have seating inside and a number of magazines. Had Wi-Fi too. Love Dark Horse whenever I'm downtown. Rare these days, but there was a time I worked in the Attwood Building across the street and I came here almost daily. I love that they always have witty quotes/sayings on their outdoor welcome sign. It's the little things for me. I'm not a coffee drinker but they offer yummy Italian sodas, tea drinks, and red bull smoothies. Their made-in-house quiche is always delicious. Freshly baked and toasted bagels with cream cheese and speciality chocolates for purchase await you. Their mixed berries + granola + yogurt cup is top tier! My spouse appreciates that they have a self-pour drip-coffee station If you're just looking for a quick cup. The staff is kind. I appreciate that they take their time with each customer and each order. No matter how long the line gets they never get frazzled or allow the huffing and puffing of patrons to throw them off their game. They have a decent seating area with WiFi that fills up fast. I love this place, it's my neighborhood go to spot for tea and coffee. Walked in and was greeted with a "sorry, your dog can't be in here." Said dog is 5.5 lbs, in a sling on my body, and is a service dog. Not that the crabby lady asked if it was a service dog (as mandated by ADA). I corrected her by telling her it was a service dog, and she asked "what for?". My sister who was with me immediately felt uncomfortable by this woman's gross attitude and wanted to leave. Would it kill you to be friendly and say "is it a service animal" instead of get out? I came here for a couple of hours to study after exercising at the gym. This is a cozy, little coffee shop in the heart of the business district of Downtown next to City Hall and across from the Atwood high-rise and the Civic Convention Center. The seating area is small yet comfortable and there are plenty of outlets available from the baseboard heaters for your portable device. The employees here give everyone a friendly greeting and are quick to serve you. They serve the Heritage brand coffee which is smooth and flavorful. I ordered a 16oz Sludge to keep me awake on the more tedious studying assignments. Their sandwiches are also delicious. On a previous visit, I tried the turkey sandwich on grilled sourdough bread with a pesto spread and it came with a side of salt and pepper Kettle chips. Some of the other noticeable items on the menu that I will try in the near future are the Avocado Toast which has whole avocado mashed and served with Dukkah seasoning and feta cheese on the side, the Acai Berry Bowl which has Sambozan Acai berries blended with banana and almond milk topped with granola and fruit, and some of their specialty frappes like the Polar Bear. This is the only coffee shop in town that offers a computer in their seating area if you don't have a portable device. The price is a lot more reasonable compared to the FedEx store. The rates are $2.00 for every 15 minutes or $6.00 for a half-hour which includes any coffee drink. One hour will cost $9.00 and your choice of any coffee drink. Wi-Fi, of course, is free for portable devices as long as you purchase something. Drink specials for customers include Manic Mondays which is any 16oz latte or mocha for $3.00, Wacky Wednesdays which is any 20oz latte or mocha for $4.00, and Frappe Friday which is 50 cents off any frappe regardless of size or flavor. Another good option for coffee and studying in the downtown area. The only downside is paying for parking. Curbside parking is the cheapest at $2.50 for two hours while City Hall and the adjacent parking lot next to it charges $4.00 and $5.00 respectively. The best option is to park along the Delaney Park Strip and take a short walk to the café which is starting to look better and better with the warm weather coming later on this month and next month. read more

I stopped by here yesterday with my wife and her parents for an afternoon pick me up. It had been a longer day and we were walking around Anchorage whenever we stumbled upon dark horse coffee. There was a sign on the outside saying that their homemade soup of the day was a curry soup. Upon entering the shop you could see a couple of display cases and a menu on the left and then a small dining area off to the right. I ended up ordering my normal Americano, 16 oz, which the menu said comprised of four shots. After a couple of minutes everyone in our party's drinks were ready. My Americano ended up being quite good. It was dark and rich without any bitterness at all while also tasting like it had been recently roasted. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. I was intrigued by the soup and the coffee was good and the baristas were friendly so why not? read more

Unfortunately first time experience and service was so rude and unprofessional. The women working there were literally yelling at patrons how to line up against the glass case, the other doing 15 things at once and losing track of priority. Their chai tea latte is the best I've ever had. I got it with almond milk, and I can't think of a single thing they can do to make it better. It had the right amount of froth, spice, and sweetness. Definitely not your typical watered down chai. Heaven in a hot cup on a cold Alaskan morning. Be aware it is very sweet though, which is how I like it but not for everyone. We went on a Tuesday morning during the whole Obama conference, which might have thrown a wrench into things because the wait was ridiculously long. The staff was super-nice & friendly, the place is cozy and comfortable, even the other customers seemed to be nicer than normal - it must rub off when you enter! Oh, and the coffee was fantastic! I mostly had the dark roast, which is delightfully dark, but my 17-year-old daughter tried a latte, drip-coffee, and sludge... all great! And their food is just as wonderful. We had various baked goods and the quiche, but by far the most outstanding was the avocado toast - possibly the best we've ever had. An A-OK Anchorage coffee depot. Pretty standard caffeine offerings, with a small food menu as well. I wish Yelp would allow for 1/2 star ratings, as I'm more towards a 3.5 star on this one. This place is located within walking distance of many business buildings and other establishments in downtown Anchorage (corner of 7th and F), so they receive a decent amount of business throughout the day, so it's safe to assume a bit of a wait so be prepared just in case. So the service can be hit or miss depending on amount of people are there, and the staffs own intake of caffeine :-P Generally they've all been nice in my experience, and work hard to try and keep pumping out orders in the limited space they have to work with. The building they're located in is pretty cozy, so if it gets busy expect a lil bit of a claustrophobic vibe; or if you're a people person, good time to work on your socializing skills. If/when there's a line, it begins to the right of the cashier, and runs towards the wall with the food menu; just in case you think you can stand around where ever. I can't speak for the quality of the fancier coffee (latte/mocha on up) , as I usually just go for drip. You can bring your own cup for drip, or purchase on there, for the normal price and then come back periodically throughout the day and refill for 50¢ which is nice. One of my favorite non-coffee-drink-related menu items would be the Redbull smoothies, when I need to satiate my sweet tooth whilst giving my adenosine receptors a swift kick in the pants. You grab a can of whichever Redbull they have on hand, and then they have a menu of around 8 flavors, I usually just go with the Mango. The Alison Eggwich breakfast item is recommended. Scrambled egg with either ham or turkey (I usually go with the ham) and some cream cheese. Then you can get it on either a bagel or bread. I go for the Jalapeno bagels. Great menu, friendly staff, fair prices, and enough space to spread out a bit. I came here twice on my trip to Anchorage and had a great experience both times. I did an Americano the first time and a cold brew the second time. Apparently, they offer a nitro cold brew but only stock in on Monday and it is usually gone by the end of the day Tuesday. The WIFI doesn't even require a password (Yay; cause i have the bad luck of always needing assistance to get the password right) and there are computers available too .
