So I stopped by Dark Side Games while I was in the area! This store looked clean inside and had a ton of inventory! Jon and Fern were the dudes who helped me and they are both super nice and helpful! Definitely recommend the shop for your hobby needs, worth a visit if you are into any of the games they carry.

Good assortment of minis to choose from, books a little pricey. You can get same books from Amazon for $10 less.

Avoid this store for tournaments…read more I had a confirmed registration through the Bandai app for their tournament, yet when I arrived 10 minutes early, I was turned away. The store had set an early check-in cutoff that was only announced on their private Discord server, with no notification on the Bandai app where players actually registered. As a result, waitlisted players were let in ahead of those of us with confirmed spots, and we were then told to join a waitlist of 40+ people, despite having already secured our registrations. Several other registered players I knew experienced the same problem. Many of them had driven over 45 minutes with the assumption of a secured spot while arriving before the start time. This is a serious problem. If an event is open to the public and registration is handled through the Bandai app, critical information like check-in deadlines should be communicated through that same platform, not buried in a Discord that not all participants know about or have access to. The way this was handled strongly favors locals and regulars who are already in their circle, which is unfair to outside players who followed the proper registration process. I would not recommend supporting this shop.

Went to have a painting framed, that I've had since the 90's…read more It was done by a family member and I am quite fond of it. A pretty good reproduction of an original Gauguin that happens to be in a nearby Pasadena art museum. Well, we paid a visit to Hobby Lobby, as we were picking up some things from nearby Whole Foods. The store occupies Sear's old location on Foothill. It's a huge place and designed to get you to walk around for things as signage isn't plentiful or helpful. Shelves are high so unless you are very tall you need to search around, guess they took that cue from Costco, it works if you aren't in a hurry. We were happy to find they had a framing department and also a fabric area, which, since the sad closing of JoAnne's, I was glad to see for the ghost of my mother who enjoyed sewing. I'm focusing on the Framing department and the friendly efficient gentleman in charge of that department, his name is Theo. He was helpful and friendly from the start. Their framing prices are posted as 50% off, which sounded great, but I guess the original prices need to be considered before seeing this as a good deal. Well, we checked on one style which had always been our original style we felt appropriate for this art work. We visited Tahiti a couple of years ago and and saw some Gaugain copies framed in a similar style, it works very well, so we inquired as to cost and estimated the size as we didn't have the painting with us. It was very reasonable compared to the frame shops we have checked over the decades, yes, decades! It was a very fair price, not knowing the quality of the work was something to consider, but Theo was very efficient and knew his products and was very meticulous. We could tell we were in very good hands. We were quoted, less the 50%, a little under $100 before tax. A very fair price. We were given a "finish by date", and 5 days before that date I gave a call to check on status, I was told it would be done in a couple of days. I was surprised and happy to receive a message later that day from Theo that our framing job was finished and available for pick up. We got over there that evening and Though Theo was gone then, a nice young lady got our finished product for us. It looked very nice. She walked us and the painting up to the lone cashier, as that is their policy, and we waited in line to pay. They did open another register as the line was about 6 people deep. I'm not going to get into their company politics, but over all it was a positive experience, especially thanks to Theo and his friendly, knowledgeable service and framing skill. Thanks Theo!

They were extremely friendly and provided me with some insight into this hobby. There were a lot of figurines available, and supplies to paint them. They hold sessions that do not crossover to local shops nearby (Odyssey games, geeky teas, Pegasus, etc.). This is one of 3 Warhammer cafes and the displays they have on the floor come from the European countries. They only sale and allow Warhammer related items in the store. They have some tables where people can play for free and use their space for any social gatherings for Warhammer. They host events here and there for people to learn or gain knowledge in this world. They also have a little Cafe inside where you can get some desserts and drinks. The figurines are costly and this is a very expensive hobby. Even though I didnt purchase anything, they were all very friendly and didnt force us to purchase anything. I believe their intent is to educate people in the art of RPGs and the amazing skills it takes to paint and create figurines. No judgments are given to those who walk into the store.

I was a beginner when I stumbled in and the staff was super friendly and helpful. They have tips on gameplay, painting techniques, or if you just wanna chat about lore and the new books that are coming out, it's so cool that they're into the hobby and not just there to press buttons on the register. The store is massive and has epic displays throughout, definitely walk around and all the way to the back where the tables are. You can sit there and build/paint or bring your army and use their terrain to play a game; and if you have questions while playing or want to learn to play there's ALWAYS someone knowledgeable to help. Their book section is probably the nicest in the area, they get perks for being the official LA cafe so you can find special Black Library editions which is super exciting for people like me and my mans who have a small library at home. All in all, I love this place, and if you have any interest at all in the world of Warhammer definitely check it out. For the mere price of your entire attention span and available hobby hours you can find not just a game but a community.

BHOFC is not your typical card shop, the shop is "nicely" set up with display cases in the middle and sides of the shop. It really felt like I was in someone's personal showroom or in a bar with barstools and drink coasters to sit around and talk sports. Lots of family love involved in setting up this shop. So I walked in, get greeted, and eavesdrop on a conversation between another visitor and the owner while checking out the shop. The other visitor had a bunch of old loose cards at home and asked if he should grade. Owner went into a long, accurate and detailed explanation of the various card grading companies without any annoyance. Good job in explaining card grading and the main grading companies. Side note: this shop can submit to PSA on your behalf for an additional fee per card. The owner talked about the aesthetics of the card grading headers if you're into displaying, the resale pros and cons of the grading companies, and the online set registry library of PSA. He knew his stuff. I checked out the card cases, lots of graded and ungraded cards, packs for sales, framed prints on the wall, signed jerseys, Dodger stuff, etc... a very cool shop and an owner that has a passion for sports collectibles. He asked if I was looking for something in particular and I told him I was a collector of graded Stephen Curry cards. He said he didn't have many of Steph's graded cards. Too bad.
