I absolutely love this location. I currently live in Covina, but I do not mind taking the drive to Pasadena to this location because the service is always excellent and whenever I need assistance or help using the laminating machine, they are always there to help with smiles on their face no complaining, no dirty looks, just amazing employees, who genuinely love their job. read more

I ordered several items for pick up through the app. When I arrived it was already bagged and in a cart to wheel out to my car and load in. I didn't realize that so I had gotten my toddler out to walk inside the store. They have a display on the front that allows kids and adults to play with several of their offerings. The store rep saw that my kiddo wanted to play and offered to pack the items in my car while we were in the store. I thought that was so nice. For my review #420, I'd like it to land here at 'Lakeshore Learning Store,' Pasadena, CA. I frequented this branch was because I used to work in Arcadia, CA. during the 1st year of the Pandemic. I've stocked up my own Felt story sets here, but then later I found out some of the 'Felt Board' story pieces turn out cheaper from Amazon. Still I would need to stock up from here. Since I always work with extremely young kids, I've needed quite a bit of materials, Lakeshore Learning Store never disappoints if you need something in a hurry and can't wait for Amazon that is. My earlier visit today on Friday, Dec/9/22 was a fabulous experience yet again~I was provided individual service and care since I was shopping the poster section for my upcoming classroom. I must have stocked up 1/2 dozen of posters and a sales lady walked over to check on me. She even helped me Laminate my classroom's posters! All I need to do is cutting them individually. I've bought my Circle Time Calendar here as well. Of course, I stocked up on another 1/2 dozen of ECE books but already got a ton at home. Will most likely return here again for another trip of classroom supplies next week. Upcoming new job from Arcadia, CA. again will allow us teachers a budget reimbursing us, but I make sure I don't overspend. This might be the most disturbing store. I came here with my 5 year old cousin for some toys and I saw two rats mating outside the door. That is not appropriate for children to see, I alerted the employees and they simply laughed. Along with this the crap they sell is so overpriced, like what the heck. The employees are all twisted. I saw one guy using a toy snake as a private part (while on the job). The people here are sick, absolutely nasty. The lady at the checkout was on her phone with her hands in her pants. read more

This store is so AWESOME! I work for a middle school and i have a blast coming here to buy any supplies we need. Yes it is very expensive here but the quality is good and the service is great. I would rather spend extra money on good stuff rather to save money and buy cheap materials. They have everything you can possibly need for projects or learning tools. I finally joined the free teachers club to get coupons and i got this free cool tote. As a middle school principal and a former teacher, I've always struggled with Lakeshore. Granted, they have some cool stuff, and prices-- while on the high side-- are not unreasonable. But me? Like many teachers, I think Harbor Freight and Home Depot are better teacher supply stores. Don't buy those two-color counters to teach integers... Get over to the Home Depot and buy a bag of nylon tile spacers. They're shaped just like a +, and you can cut them to look like - signs. Measuring cups, pipe cleaners, magnifying glasses, rulers, angle grinders, mitre saws... Ok, those last two probably don't belong In a sixth grade classroom, but save your money, be a little creative, and teach! As for Lakeshore, they have the same stuff, just packaged better, maybe a prettier color... It's one stop shopping, and it's convenient. Maybe I'm cheap. Maybe I like the excuse to go to my favorite "toy stores." Lakeshore relies on you failing to do internet research or collaborating with colleagues to find a cheaper way to acquire manipulatives and support learning. Do what you gotta do, but with a little creativity (or the ol' "beg, borrow, & steal") the little lightbulbs will glow over your kids' heads. read more

This place is amazing for learning and teaching tools for kids from 3 to 11. I used to go here with my daughter when she was young. There is a great science section... an excellent arts and crafts section... and a truly superb section on help books for math, language, history, and English. In general I love LAkeshore! We are used to frequenting thE west Los Angeles location where they are beyond friendly and accommodating. We moved and my daughter really missed her mother daughter lakeshore visits so we decided to give the pasadena location a try. We were excited to go spend our monthly lakeshore spending money here and lucky us we happened to be here on a day they had an event. Unfortunately, the people at the craft statiOns (one in particular) were not very friendly. Like" I don't care if you are 4 years old and can't reach the table it's not my problem" when a toddler asks for help unfriendly. I would suggest making sure the the employees working the kids tables at lakeshore events actually like kids! read more

I am so disappointed to find out that Lakeshore does not carry any kind of materials for Hispanic Heritage month!!!! Not one boarder or bulletin board set that represents the Hispanic community!!! Lakeshore has a plethora of learning materials / incentives that teachers and moms and the like can use. The problem is that the materials are over the top expensive . It's hard to get all that you need when the prices are so outrageous. I find that I can only get a few things and make some of my own materials to supplement the things I can't buy. If there is any consolation, the staff are very helpful and knowledgeable which helps. I also like the free workshops that they offer. Check out the dates and times and stop in ! I've been shopping at Lakeshore periodically for over 15 years. I would shop at Lakeshore when my child was growing up but also find it a great place to find a gift for any child who is preschool-elementary age. Educational learning toys, games, school supplies and books are their specialty. If you're a teacher, you'll be amazed at the wide selection of educational things this store carries. Not to mention the amount of classroom decor things like borders, fadeless bulletin board paper, posters, etc. Honestly, it's overpriced and I've been able to find much cheaper things online or at other stores with coupons. Sure, the counters or math toys may be packaged nicer or look more expensive, but you can save so much money by going elsewhere or getting creative. I like going here every now and then when I want different borders, a cute calendar or a poster or two to decorate my classroom, but would never buy more than that. I've found fadeless paper at Michael's cheaper because they always have a 40% off coupon. I will admit though, that Lakeshore definitely has a nicer color selection. That's how they get us! Lol. If you have the money and/or gift cards, come here! But if you don't, you'll quickly realize you can't buy much if you're on a budget. Great learning supplies for teachers / parents! As a former teacher, I walked in and remembered how much money I save by not being a teacher anymore. My instinct was to buy everything! They have really cool learning games, activities, classroom decorations, and toys - mostly geared toward pre-school to mid elementary level. I was trying to find some ESL books for adults, and no luck. If I was a parent, I'd be all over this place. It's a great place to buy educational gifts for a niece/nephew/god child/etc. Note that they have a Yelp check-in discount - Buy one item and get the second 1/2 off. I see this a popular place for parents and teachers, but for me that fits in neither one of those categories, it's just a perfect place to buy a birthday gift for cousins still in elementary school. I got a Brain Quest board game and found the price just a few dollars more than online and maybe $5 more than Target, but there are coupons that go out and if you sign up for their free rewards-card you get discounts on their non-sale items there. Making their products a bit more reasonable and quite comparable. Kind of strange since shouldn't the school be providing supplies for teachers? We all know teachers make very little and now they are using their own money to supply their classrooms. :/ At first it seems like an impressive store dedicated to learning, but when you go through each section you find it limited and very general. For example the Multicultural/language area mostly has books in Spanish and a couple in French that's it! I'm a teacher and have been for 13 years. I have frequented the store for many years. Today I walked in to pick up some construction paper and noticed the holiday stickers by the door. I walked in with leggings, a top, my Jean jacket on and a wallet in hand(no where to hide merchandise). I was followed by sales associate not asking if I needed help as she had already done so but couldn't see where I had gone. When she saw me she turned quickly and went the other way. I'm offended and know it's the holiday season. But really?!? Guilty! I always come in here for one or two things but leave with thirty or more. I feel like this is a Costco type educational supply store. I always receive great, friendly service. Whenever I have had questions that were tougher ones to answer, I know I can work with the associates to either look on line for something that would be helpful to me or we look for items that are similar that would help to create the item I need. As a public school teacher, I've never minded paying for some things for my classroom, especially when it makes my life and regiment so much easier. I know things are so over priced and that I could probably make a lot more than I have been but at the same time, paying for the convenience is saving me so much more time and effort. I do go to the dollar store as well for certain things that I can get there for a lot less but Lakeshore has a lot of specialized items that can help you to assess your students' most effective modalities of learning. And if you ask me, that's worth the bit more money. I wish there were a location a bit closer to me but I'm glad that there is one sorta near me at all. I cannot wait to begin shopping for some enrichment activities for my lil one. I have so many ideas of how to create a small positive learning environment, workshop like area for her at home. I know Lakeshore has my back, too, when it comes to needing certain toys and activities that will help children to further develop fine and gross motor skills, and other skills as well. I hope it'll be a while before I return but again, I'm more than happy to spend on tools that will make THAT much a difference in a student's level of learning and achievement. Ugh this place...I want everything in here!! But its all very expensive and overpriced to get everything!! I wish they had a bigger fine motor/ letter recognition selection. I like their other location better I think it was in Carson? They have a warehouse full of discounted merchandise that are discontinued or either damaged.
