Driving from ATL to CLT for a funeral and my 2006 Corvette broke down on I-85 with what I thought was a tire problem. Had it towed to Darrell's and dropped there (it was 7:30p at night). Rented a car and came back to Darrell's at 8am and explained my symptoms. They knew exactly what it was likely to be (a suspension problem). I asked if it could be fixed on Friday so I could drive home. They did! And washed and detailed the car so when I picked it up Friday at 2:30 we could hit the road home confidently. This happened a while ago, several years, but I will not forget how this place scammed me out of $89 for a "diagnostic test", then wanted to charge me over $800 for a repair. I had that car towed to another garage that charged me $75 for the same repair and it stayed fixed. The 2nd mechanic admonished me for going to this Darrell garage. They are known in the industry as being scam artists, overcharging and breaking things on your car then charge YOU to fix. AAA referred me to them. Do not take any referrals from AAA. Ignore them, do your due diligence in researching mechanics unless you have a surplus of cash and time. But even with that, stay far away from these guys. They are terrible. Thank God I only lost $89. But I still want that back -- hope they choke on it. read more

Alas, I have found a new mechanic! Apparently, traveling to and fro in my Camry, I've racked up 238k miles. I started to notice a "whump, whump" sound coming from my front tire. While providing a constant beat to drive to (and practice freestyle rapping) is was irritating as hell! I took it to another shop and they told me the tie-rods (?) were bad...had them replaced... WHUMP WHUMP! Went back and had new struts put on... WHUMP WHUMP! DAYUM! Finally something kicked in and I decided to find a local reputable company and I really hit the jackpot with Darrell's. Here's why: 1) I found them online and they had great reviews. We all know the power of a good review from happy customers! 2) After I performed my freestyle rap of what was wrong with the car, the owner Terry said "Okay, let's go drive it." What?!? I didn't realize that the other place never drove my car!! I was thrilled! 3) The diagnosis and suggested repair conversations were amazing! It was like a medical diagnosis from a really compassionate doctor. Even with the unexpected additional service I needed to get my car in tip-top shape, never once did I feel like I was being lied to or taken advantage of. Cheaper doesn't mean quality in work. I had an issue with being unable to get gas in my car. I took it to Darrell's, after being told by another service center that my charcoal canister needed to be replaced. They were charging over 800 and Darrell's charged me 250, at first. The guy at the front desk apparently misunderstood what I had asked and quoted the wrong price. That aside, I had them do a diagnostic to see if the other place was correct. Once that was completed they had to order the part, which took quite a bit of time. Once the work was completed, I took it to the gas station to fill it up. I still could not get gas in the tank and returned to Darrell's. They took it back in the shop, did something, and I went back to the gas station, where I was able to put gas in. But as I was driving back home my car started doing a sputtering as if it was stalling out. I took it back to Darrell's and as I am explaining what happened, I hear gas pouring out of car (underneath). They took it back once again and told me that the valve that they opened had to be closed so that gas wouldn't come out and advised I would need a new gas tank, which would cost about 400 plus labor. I already paid over 550 for this service and would have to wait till my next paycheck to get that work done. I drove my car rarely, less than 5mile trips to get groceries and workout. My check engine like came on about a week and a half later, so I took it to a closer service center where I learned they used a zip tie and spark plug to close the line. The mechanic there called them to find out why they would do this. They stated because it was Friday and they wanted to leave and I i was in there for a while. The mechanic closer advised that I go back to them to redo the work. Darrell's declines stated that I needed to purchase the gas tank. They also said that they did incorrect work so that after I bought the part they would correct the work. Needless to say, I did not go back to them. Why would I go back to a place that did such negligent and poor work and had a piss poor response to why it was done that way? I would rather pay more elsewhere than to deal with this garage ever again. read more

I was driving to Atlanta from Virginia when my radiator crapped out in Gastonia. I took my car to Darrel's at 4:30pm on a Friday and they stayed late to fix my car and get me back on the road. This place was one of the worst places I have ever been to. They work on my fiancé truck and it cost him $1300 but didn't fix the problem. The truck broke down a day later. We asked him if something was not fix correctly would he do it over and he said yes but when we bought the truck back. Terry the owner accused us of doing something to the truck and claimed we wanted something for free after we gave him all that money. He wanted to charge $800 more dollars to fix more stuff but didn't even check our battery. The battery had no water in and he even admit he didn't check the battery. He argued back and forth with my fiancé about more repairs that were needed but didn't mention the additional repairs in the beginning. He didn't even do a simple thing as of checking to see if water was in the battery. I would not recommend them to a dog. I am also reporting them to the BBB. I look at this website and all these good reviews and thought we have found us a great mechanic but we found a nightmare and we had to spend more money going back to the Honda place and losing time out of work to fix a problem that he rushed and over look major problems that could been avoided if he took his time. read more
