Didn't like this place at all. I had high expectations because of the reviews and pictures. I was really excited to try it. Decor is cool, vibe seemed cool. I was disappointed that they didn't have mac n cheese seeing how this is a Cajun spot..no big deal. I ordered the Zeek (shrimp and catfish) po boy with Cajun fries and the waitress suggested I get the shrimp grilled and get the sandwich on a wrap instead of bread, she said it was really good that way so I went with it. My cousin ordered catfish with collard greens and red beans and rice. First off the service was not good. The restaurant was basically empty but it took about 30 minutes to get our food. The po boy as a wrap was a bad idea. The whole thing fell apart when I was eating it and there was BARELY any fish or shrimp inside. It was probably a total of 1 piece of fish and two shrimps rolled into the wrap with lettuce, pickles and tomato. The fish and shrimp were tasteless, no seasoning or flavor at all. The gator sauce was good but that still didn't help. The collard greens were disgusting!! I can't describe the flavor but it was bad. My cousin liked the rice and I liked the fries, that was about it. My cousin got a drink that was pretty good, I think a Hurricane; nice size and good taste. I was also extremely disappointed that they didn't have banana pudding!! Like how does a NOLA themed restaurant not have banana pudding?!! I'm probably lucky I missed it because the pictures look like the cheap version not the authentic homemade one. Disappointed at this experience. read more

I sought out Darrow's to try their delectable beignets. My little boy and I had been curious about them since watching Princess Tiana rave about them in her movie. We found the beignets and so much more. We were welcomed and treated like friends by the people who worked there. They genuinely wanted to share the restaurant experience with us. When they found out it was my son's birthday, they dressed up the beignets with a candle and sang to him. It was very sweet. The gumbo was excellent too. A note to new visitors - this is a place to savor - don't rush it - the time spent will be worth it. I will definitely be back. read more

Food is excellent- try anything and it will be great. They have items that are spicy and mild. They are able to cook items both grilled & fried. The drinks (Rum Punch is a favorite) are wonderful. Every time we have gone, has been better than the last. I have to say they have the best banana pudding EVER!!!! Finally, what makes this place so special & over the top is the service. That was a mistake, the tater salad belonged on the sandwich as intended, I appologize for thinking I knew better. If you are worried about warming up the tater salad too much, get it on the side and put it together yourself. Slather some "gator sweat" on top, and to quote the lovely young woman who served us, "it will change your life." My partner in crime on this dining excursion orderd fries which have some spice but are pretty awesome. The bean balaya is worth checking out. First time here and the food was great. I've never been to New Orleans but if the food is like this I need to go. Had the shrimp po'boy with Cajan fries and a purple haze Abita beer. Wife had gumbo with white rice. Both meals where full of flavor. We shared a banana pudding which was really light. The staff was amazing. Everyone was really friendly. They recommend what to order as they new what had just been made and was the hottest and freshest. The man that makes the chicken sausage for the gumbo was there. This was my first time to this restaurant and it was an amazing experience. We were warmly greeted and given delicious samples of some of the items on the menu. Hard to decide what to order because we were seated near the kitchen and everything looked great. Finally decided on a catfish poboy and a turkey sausage poboy. Quality and taste of the food was absolutely delicious. Everything was great, including the mango daiquiri. No room for dessert so we will save room next time we visit. I would leave a review on the food, but I wouldn't know. Went in for my first time to try the food. My brother and I ordered the wings and fries. They gave us a number and said they would bring it to the table when ready. After waiting about 25 minutes, my brother went inside to check on it and was told that it would be ready soon because the wings take 20 minutes to make. (20 minutes to make wings... Really?) Ok, we waited some more until he went in again to check. They said it would be ready soon. More waiting until the cashier came out and apologized, saying the the order ticket never got printed, so they never made it. She was nice and apologetic and said that she had refunded our order on our credit card. She asked us to please wait and they will start making it right away for us anyway. We waited another 30 minutes until we finally went in to ask again what was going on. The girl who talked to us earlier was gone. We asked the cashier if it was on it's way and he... Rather smuggly... Said that when we left, they cancelled our order. We never left. We had been waiting on their patio. By this time we had been there about an hour and fifteen minutes and still didn't have our food. We promptly left and went across the street to Carl's Jr to finally get something to eat. I am local and really was hoping to have a cool new place to eat nearby, but will not be going back. I don't think my friends will be going either. We ordered the fried shrimp, oysters and catfish with a side of greens and jambalaya. The greens were healthy and delicious. Their food is not cooked with any pork and they use mostly seafood and chicken. We highly recommend this place if you're in the mood for some great homemade Louisiana cooking. Found this little gem by accident and am sooo happy we did! My daughter and I had the gumbo ya ya and brisket po' boy with greens as the side. Delicious! I also had myself a daiquiri that was sooo good. Cute bar and the bartender was so sweet. Even tho we were sitting at a table he came to check on us and talked a bit. Shame on me for forgetting his name but he was a sweetheart. The owner welcomed us to his "family." Very genuine and warm people with a great atmosphere in the restaurant. As someone who grew up down the bayous of Louisiana, I've likely eaten a good thousand poboys. The Special sandwich with shrimp and oysters was definitely in the top 3 poboys I've had. The bread was even better than the traditional french bread. And, I believe they used corn meal in their spicy oyster coating,which is my favorite. And the portions were plenty Almost better than that was the restaurant, staff and crowd. Back home it would be considered fancy. ..it was also immaculate. The first time I ate there I spilled my tea and it was handled kindly and quickly. I'll end with the beignets. Not what you'd find at Cafe du monde but delicious in their own right. Oops I guess there is more. I would hate to skip the staff. They were friendly and professional. Watched them greet every patron. Brought home grilled catfish tacos which, of course were also excellent. They are on the happy hour menu. Impressive menu for both the restaurant and bar. The perfect place to watch a game or spend a few hours before heading home. The owner should be proud of what he has. We were there yesterday and it looked like business was slow. Such a shame. Attended a birthday luncheon today and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The manager and staff were very attentive to our needs. Most important the food was delicious. This is a hidden jewel on the outside of Long Beach California. It has great customer service and food is like the French Quarters itself. Always looking for good places to eat and this is one. Since we live in the area, we walked by this restaurant a lot while it was being built, looking forward to having a new local place to eat. However, once we found out it was a Cajun-style restaurant, we were disappointed since it's not our favorite cuisine. Today, we finally decided to walk over and give it a try. To our great surprise, it was fabulous! When we came into the restaurant, we were immediately greeted and walked through the ordering process. After we sat down, they brought samples of the red beans and rice, the jambalaya and the gumbo sauce (one for each of us) to try. They also let us know that the happy hour was in effect. We tried the samples and found all to be great but especially liked the red beans and rice. We ended up ordering from the happy hour menu which had great prices - grilled fish tacos and a gumbo "shot" to share. I ordered a Darrowrita and my husband got a soft drink. The order was delivered to our table in a reasonable amount of time by a friendly server. The Darrowrita (frozen margarita) was great with a generous amount of alcohol for a great price. (They had several flavors available but I chose the traditional.) The grilled fish tacos (4 of them) were delicious with lots of fish, spicy but not overwhelming seasoning. The gumbo had a lot of sausage and shrimp and was very tasty. We quickly decided that we'd be back to try out more of their offerings. The only downside (for us) is that the restaurant has a lot of solid surfaces and was pretty loud. (This was probably due to a large party who were having a great time.) It might not be as loud at lunch when there's less alcohol being served but we also noticed there were some tables outside that we'll probably try next time if there are a lot of people there. First time I came here it was maybe 10 mins before closing and I actually thought they had wrapped up for the night so when I walked in I asked, "are you guys closed?" I was greeted with a "No, come on in!" I was asked if I had been there before and when I replied no some of the ladies working there made me samples of some of their most popular dishes for me to taste. They were so warm and welcoming. After I ordered I was greeted by the owner who told me how they had changed locations, how he wanted everyone who came though the doors to feel like they were at home, and we bonded over both being the products of HBCU's. After my order was ready they gave me some gator sauce and told me to just trust them because if I liked spice I'd love it. They then asked if I needed someone to walk me to my car because it was late and when I said no because I didn't want them to have to do that they told me to come through the back exit so they could watch me get in my car, which was in the lot behind the restaurant. I really felt so cared for. This is a great place to visit and eat with friends and feel like your at your grandma's house. I've been back a few times with friends and solo and the experience and the food is always GREAT. I'm glad to have this new addition to Carson. read more

I tried Darrow's New Orleans Grill a couple of times. Both times I enjoyed the food. I had the beef po'boy and it was very tender. Since I live close by at the Renaissance it's one of the go to places when I don't feel like cooking. I would recommend this place for a casual night out. read more
