Tiki Kai has such an immersive atmosphere and with no windows you really do forget you're on the Hermosa beach pier but what really makes us want to come back is a staff that makes us feel welcomed and adds to our experience. Alyssa and Sage not only added to our experience, they made it! These two were so fun, they were on top of our food modifications (allergies), and somehow found a way to be available whenever we needed them despite the place being slammed. We tried the DineLA restaurant week menu for Tiki Kai and it was very good! Timing of the food coming out could've been better. We waited a very long time for the salad then just as we were finishing the salad the appetizer came out. And unfortunately if you opted for the DineLA everyone at the table has to do it too. Strange since you'd think if two of four people wanted DineLA and the other two wanted a higher priced entree from the standard menu would be more beneficial for the restaurant and server for a higher check but I guess not. Also note that Iced tea refills are not free. Ambiance is amazing of course. Will return again since it's in a nice beach area and next to the pier for a nice walk afterwards. read more

Very disappointing experience. All four of our burgers were missing the grilled pineapple they were supposed to come with. One burger was ordered with grilled onions, and we were told they don't offer grilled onions but could substitute pickled onions instead. We declined the pickled onions, yet the burger still came out with them. When we ordered an iced tea, we were told they were all out. We also asked about a non-alcoholic Dole Whip, but were told they don't have it yet and are still working on it, which was understandable. Each time we pointed out an issue, our waitress simply said she had "let the kitchen know," but nothing was really resolved. Even after bringing up the missing pineapple, it never made it to our table. To top it off, we were there celebrating the arrival of a new baby. After so many mistakes, it would have been a thoughtful gesture to offer a complimentary dessert or do something small to acknowledge the occasion and make up for the experience. The service lacked follow-through, our orders weren't prepared correctly, and the experience left us very disappointed. Our bill was $450 with gratuity already added. Maybe that's why there was no compensation for everything that was wrong? We hope they improve their attention to detail because the repeated mistakes really took away from what should have been a special celebration. read more

This was my third visit since November, with each one being progressively better. If you tried it early on, it is worth revisiting. The drinks were very well balanced this time, which was previously my main gripe. Drinks - Navy Grog 5/5: They have it down now; the blend really tickles the pallet, with a splash of tart citrus at the end. The honey adds bodyband a note of sweetness, without making it a sugar bomb. - Mai Tai 4.5/5: More mint than I am used to, but in a pleasant way, with a sweet citrus body and almost herbal finish. *Their Monkey Pod Mai Tai looked spot on, but I was told the orgeat was almond instead of macadamia Food - Jidori Fried Chicken Sandwich 3.5/5: The texture was great: juicy yet crispy, but the slaw sort of overpowered the other flavors, and the mango (I think) was not ripe. I thought that it was just renamed, but I did notice any of the buttermilk flavor from last time - Oahu Burger 3/5: The patty was thick and I enjoyed the grilled pineapple, but a little bit of the fermented gpchu aioli can go a looong way. I will likely venture to the Ocean side of the menu next time. We sat out front, at the kidney shaped table. As expected, conversations were not private and service was a bit slower. However, the weather was great and the faux plants grew on us throughout the evening. Special thanks to Michael F., who took care of our area towards the end. Wonderful menu for Dine LA! We went for lunch and it comes with a salad, appetizer, entree, and dessert all for $35 a person. We added a mini Ube cocktail for an extra $5. I've been during a dinner rush at a table, and now during the day at the bar top and the service is still excellent! Our bartender Will recommended the perfect order for our afternoon. Was out in Hermosa meeting people for brunch, and Tiki Kai was literally across the street, so I made a quick reservation and we headed over after brunch to indulge in some tiki culture and libations. First, there is indoor and outdoor seating, so where you sit is up to you. But unsure is where all the decor and gives are, so I'd say drink indoors and enjoy the whole ambiance. If you choose to sit at the bar, some of the drinks come with a show, like a fire show, so if you're into that, or want fun videos to put on IG or Tik Tok, the bar may be the way to go. The drinks were, as tiki drinks tend to be, delicious. Great mixture of spirits with tropical juices, with other ingredients. They also just added the Monkey Pod Mai Tai, which the Money Pod is a restaurant bar in Maui known for their Mai Tai, which is topped with a lilikoi (passion fruit) foam. The PK HB is their version of a Painkiller, also very good. And the Ube Your Thirst, which I'm not really an Uber person, was very good, much better then I thought it would be. We also tried other cocktails, ask tasty and we'll balanced. We started with pupus with the crispy rice with a slight spice taste, hamachi crudo, chicken karage, and firecracker shrimp. Huge tiki fan here and I've had Tiki Kai on my list for a bit. This is the prettiest, newest looking tiki bar I've ever been to. The attention to detail is beyond comparable - from the fixtures hanging above the bar, to the little details decorating the dining area and the lights behind the bar. Everything is so well thought out and fully instagrammable. The place is huge too with plenty of seating outside and in but you must at least sit inside once to appreciate all the effort put into the decor. We ordered a tiki drink, beer and the Crab Rangoon appetizer and the service was quick and friendly. The tiki drink, the Jet Pilot, was a rum drink that came out on fire. So fun! And the crab rangoons came out swimming in a sweet chili sauce that was perfect. We will come back for dinner next time. Parking is tough because you are at the pier but there is a free garage right behind the restaurant that you might get lucky enough to find a spot in. I loved this place! Tried it for the first time with a large group and had almost the whole menu (so this is a real review lol). We were a big group so I know it's tough, but we had two servers for our table and they were on it! The espresso cocktail was the drink of the night, would go back just for that! Went with some friends when we were in the area. We got outside seating which was nice. Very busy on a Saturday night, definitely recommend reservations. Easy to find street parking in the area. Each drink is served in a different vessel. Between our table I was able to sample most of their drinks, and all were excellent and not too sweet unlike at many Tiki spots. The appetizers were mid and very pricy, the food itself was very good. It's a family style menu and the portions are regular, for the cost they should give larger portions. We had reservations for the indoor/outdoor fire pit at 6pm but we weren't seated until almost 630pm. The host said Saturday is one of their busiest nights so be prepared for that if you plan on being a walk-in. It was pretty packed. However, even with it being crowded the attentiveness of the servers was superb. Now the food. We got 2 pupu platters. You have the option of 5 items or 3 items. You have a wide variety of things you can put on the pupu platters which we appreciated. We had wings, shrimp, ribs, & crispy rice. We also ordered additional sides like fries, cucumbers, and garlic noodles. I also had the tuna bowl and another friend had a burger. All the food was good. Most everything on the menu is designed to be shared so that worked out for it being 9 of us. We also had drinks and they were good. With that said, had this trip been singularly about drinks I would have started a petition to give this place 6 Stars. The drink menu was very robust both on the alcoholic and non-alcoholic front. That was my only drink of the evening but there were at least 5 other drinks on the menu that I hope to go back and try at some point. The food was a bit underwhelming in my (our) opinion. The tropical slaw was solid and the meat was well-prepared, but I did desire a bit more seasoning and/or sauce-driven flavoring. My wife got the huli huli chicken and the garlic noodles. The chicken was not bad but the pricing relative to portion size didn't quite add up for us. I will say folks should try to garlic noodles but they should surely expect a pasta-like dish. I went on a date here with my boyfriend, we had a reservation at 5pm. Arrived early to check in and was seated by 5pm. When we were seated we did not receive service for 15 minutes until we contacted a host about this issue, immediately he resolved this and got us our server. The drinks are tasty, the food was good. I was kind of expecting an edamame to be on the menu as an appetizer, might be a nice addition to add because the menu felt like it was missing some things. My sole whip drink was perfectly frozen and stayed cold long a the perfect consistency. The indoor dining room is decorated nicely. I wish the service was better in the beginning of our time here, we ended up having to extend our parking time due to the delay. Another fantastic experience at Tiki Kai! The boy and I had 4pm dinner reservations yesterday and were seated at a high top right across the middle of the magnificent bar; perfect seats and another time being serviced by the amazing Kelly who is super helpful, kind and super attentive. The boy ordered a virgin Wavemaker (Blue Hawaii) and I had a Navy Grog and Revenant (my go-to even if more of a Speakeasy drink but amazing). Great drinks and as always, incredible replenishment of water and we drink a lot of water! For dinner, we shared the crispy rice with spicy tuna appetizer ($23 and awesome) and the Oahu Burger ($19) with fermented gochu aioli & grilled pineapple on a brioche bun. We ordered the burger rare and it was really, really good. The boy and I felt there could have been a little more pineapple and gochu aioli on it but it was freakin delicious all the same. Maybe make sure to ask for extra aioli. We certainly had enough to eat but maybe I could have used a french fry or two also...the burger does not come with them. Burgers need fries, amiright? The rice lacks flavor other than a cheap butter substitute, this felt as though it had been boxed. The fries were good, but fries are difficult to get wrong. This is a fun tiki place :) It's new, it's got good food and drink. A must visit if you're in Hermosa Beach. First thing, book a reservation online. This is a very popular spot already. So... book ahead. The service was attentive, professional, and courteous. So be kind back to them, please. The obvious main draw are the Tiki Drinks and if you booked ahead like I mentioned-- you will have some creatively presented drinks for you to order. It makes the occasion that much more fun in an instant :). The food is actually really good too which is a welcomed surprise. Not all tiki places serve food, let alone solid bites. Tiki Kai arguably makes you wonder which is better-- the food or the drinks? The space indoors is a little cramped but it works. There is also a lot of outdoor seating which is perfect for a nice way to cap off the day by the beach. I would recommend coming here; especially if you haven't tried this place already. Again, book ahead-- cuz it is very crowded and there is practically no seating if you didn't book ahead. The vibe though otherwise is pleasantly fun and light throughout our experience. For the seasoned Tiki people: Tiki shirt attire is obviously welcome! Let everyone know you're a seasoned alcoholic ;) . Great tiki bar right on Hermosa pier. It's a great spot for tiki cocktails and food. I had the octopus with hummus that was braised well and didn't have the rubbery texture at all. My friends enjoyed garlic noodles with chicken addon and the yuca fries with yuzu aioli was a table favorite. The staff was very attentive and nice and helpful in suggestions. Wow. They did an amazing job transforming the space into a legit tiki room. The ambiance and decor are absolutely top notch. I have been wanting to try Tiki Kai for a while, and my wife managed to get us a reservation on Valentine's Day no less. It turned into a full family party since my daughter and her fiancé were visiting from the East Coast and my college aged son was home for the weekend. From the moment we walked in, I loved the decor and the music. It immediately set the stage for high expectations, and the vibe did not disappoint. Service was very friendly and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. I am still dry Januarying into February, so I stuck with sparkling water, but my glass was refilled and swapped out frequently, which I appreciated. The rest of the crew went all in on the tiki drinks, including a Mai Tai and a lychee martini. The martini was a bit too sweet for my wife's liking, but they remade it without hesitation and were very gracious about it. We ordered the pu pu platter and it was delicious. Ribs, crispy rice, crab rangoons, chicken wings, and chicken skewers all hit the spot. I was genuinely pleased with the quality of the food. We also shared a couple of burgers and some fries, which were excellent. For dessert we had the baked Alaska. It was well executed, even if it was not quite my personal favorite. One small suggestion since there were five of us. A few of the dishes came with four pieces, which makes sense for many groups, but it would be helpful if there were an option to add an extra piece for a modest charge. Maybe that is available and we just did not realize it, but it would have been nice to know so no one was doing the polite last piece dance. The only other downside was the men's room. It is one at a time, and there was a line when I arrived, so washing my hands took a bit of patience. When I finally got in, there was a noticeable urine smell. It was not anything worse, just clearly a pee odor, which feels like something that could be addressed fairly easily with a bit more attention. Wonderful outdoor patio, excellent service, and solid food on the Hermosa Beach pier. Greeted with "aloha" by the hostess, (the patio is dog friendly). Interior is very cool, dark, and had a "lava flow" floor light guiding you to the bathroom. Drinks and food were tropical themed, so we went with some mai tais to start. The mixed drinks were ok, but we switched to wine after one drink. We started with the chicken karaoke, which was not very crisp, but the meat was quite moist. I chose the duroc pork chop which came in a very sweet brown butter sauce. The chop was nicely done but I would have preferred it without any of the sauce. It was like eating a dessert sauce on my entrée. My friends were going to order the prawns, but our very smart waiter told us it came with 3 prawns and nothing else, whereas they could order the garlic noodles with added shrimp and it actually cost less than just the prawns. Two of my friends ordered his suggestions and loved it! I tasted their plates and lived the noodles too! Another friend ordered the huli huli chicken and fried rice which he enjoyed, taking the leftovers home.
