I LOVE Darryl's Boutique. I am from out of town, and I needed to find a wonderful dress to one, match a pair of tomato red shoes that I love and only wore once. Time was of the essence as I needed it to for an upcoming wedding. I'd gone to all of the dept. stores and was not happy with the "prom" like dresses I was coming across. A friend of mine suggested Darryl's Boutique, as a place that I should "check out," because every time she saw someone who wasn't very tall wearing a fabulous dress they bought it at Darryl's. I decided to go just to "check it out." I was pleasantly surprised when I looked at the selection. The first dress, which I loved on the hanger (a cute black and white stripe) was not as flattering as I'd hope it would be on me. Before my face contorted to a distinct frown, another dress was given to me to "try on." I new it was for me as I saw the chiffon just flutter in the movement. It was a Donna Morgan black and white (tiny polka dot) strapless dress. I put it on, and I fell in love. Then I was given a shear shrug for over the shoulders and I was transformed. Shopping there was pure joy. They took the stress and confusion of shopping for an item and having a vision of what you want to look like but not knowing where to find it out . Most importantly, unlike many boutiques I was not being told a dress too small, or not just right for me was "wonderful...looks amazing on you". My concerns and my wants were listened to and addressed. Not to over look the amazingly pleasant attitudes. I laughed, I had a blast. I loved the service, and I loved the shopping experience. I can't wait to put on those patent leather tomato red shoes, with that black and white chiffon dress and dance my butt off!!! read more

I stopped by Darryl's last weekend at the recommendation of a friend. I love clothes but find shopping frustrating and time wasting. To my pleasant surprise, on one visit to Darryl's I was able to refresh my wardrobe with 8 pieces I love. Darryl described the clothing he sells as "classic with a twist." I agree and would also add well-made, flattering, chic and more interesting that what you'll find in chain stores. He stocks boutique brands from Canada, Spain, France and the US. A mix of dressy, work wear & "smart casual" clothing. Prices for most pieces run from about $60 to $300. Not the cheapest, but very reasonable for quality clothing you'll wear for years. When you first enter the shop it's a bit overwhelming because the racks are packed tight & in no particular order. But quickly you realize the point of going to a store like Darryl's is the customer service. Darryl & his staff know how sizes run in each brand and what looks good on different body types. They listen and graciously help you find clothes that express your personal style and look your best. Darryl's is a testament to why a "bricks and mortar" boutique with a well-curated selection & knowledgable customer service is the best option for women who don't have the patience for DIY shopping. I will definitely make Darryl's my first stop next time I need clothes. read more

I am a curvy woman ranging between a size 10 and 12. Also, I'm short (5'2"), with a big bust, so suffice it to say that it is usually VERY tough for me to find dresses that look nice without alteration--and that are comfortable. At Darryl's, it's the opposite issue: There are SO MANY dresses and skirts that I love that it's hard to choose. The first time I shopped there, when I was checking out, I said to Darryl, the owner, "I like this store because you have clothes for curvy women." And he said, "No, I have clothes for REAL women." I just loved that, and it is so rare to find that kind of attitude in New York City, where, if you are not a size 0 or 25 years old, you are often made to feel invisible. This is my new GO TO stop for dresses, both casual, cute and also classic and event worthy. And I haven't seen these styles or brands anywhere else. I also appreciate Darryl picking out dresses that will fit my shape--he has a great eye. My only caveat is that I wish the dressing rooms had mirrors in them, because I sometimes feel self conscious coming out to a public mirror if something doesn't look right; I'd rather check it out in the privacy of the dressing room. This is my go to store for stylish clothing in NYC. I discovered it about two years ago and I have purchased many garments here that have become favorites in my wardrobe. The clothing is chic, distinctive and fits many different body types, and they carry labels that you won't find in any department or chain stores. I had given up on finding dresses that would fit my curvy body until I discovered a local designer here, and I now own at least ten by her. I also have purchased many tops. jackets and pants that are stylish as well as very comfortable to wear. I usually get rave reviews from my firends and co-workers when I wear them. Check out the jackets/tops by Joseph Ribkoff- stunning! The clothes are affordable given their quality and versatility. The service in this store is unparalleled, Darryl is often there, and he has a keen eye for selecting things for me. Invariably he shows me something that I would never have considered that ends up looking fantastic on me. His assistant Virginia is also great. It is like having your own personal shopper! read more

I don't post on Yelp because not many places really impress me and make my life easier, but Darryl's -- year after year -- really does. This place never ceases to amaze me -- not just a great selection of dresses and other clothing in a variety of price ranges, but it has truly amazing (and so friendly!) sales help. The women working there are so kind, helpful, thoughtful, and have great ideas and input about what you'd look best in. I can't imagine why I'd ever go to a big impersonal fatiguing department store when this place is so efficient and helpful with such great stuff. I go here twice a year and every time am impressed at what an Upper West Side gem it is -- although I think East Siders may have figured it out. Sorry to gush like this, but I don't like shopping much -- but I like to look good -- and Darryl's keeps coming to my rescue. I went into Darry's Boutique in Rhinebeck, NY on a day trip there with my girlfriend Jeanne. I came out with a skirt, a dress, 2 sweaters and two jackets. It was amazing, going from not seeing anything for myself to trying on one thing-a little black dress- and suddenly finding help from Darryl to the wardrobe items that I've been looking for everywhere else and not finding until then! I am a total convert. Darryl the owner is amazingingly helpful with an ability to make you feel good with clothes that make you look good, that are good for Your figure. I hope to get a gift certificate for writing this but I also hope to shop at Darryl's, Manhattan! I look forward to wearing the first of my new outfits tomorrow. Comfortable, fashionable,and sleek. I have been shopping here since my late 20s and am now in my mid-40s--over 15 years. Very classy and stylish selections at this boutique. If you need a cocktail dress, or just a dressy dress that makes you feel feminine and sexy, this is the place to go. In addition, Darryl's also carries casualwear selections and work appropriate separates and dresses. Darryl has great taste and shops with his clients in mind. The staff is very attentive and fun, and they don't mind making suggestions upon request. I really appreciate the fact that they don't tell you that you look good in something just to make a sale. They will be honest with you and discourage you from embarrassing yourself. I have always found the last-minute dress for weddings, cocktail parties, interviews and dates and have never been disappointed. read more

Love this place. Have been shopping here for at least 15 years. Darryl has a great selection of clothing. I can always find something I need or something to add to my wardrobe. I called Darryl today to let him know that I have received compliments all day on a tunic dress I bought Saturday. I was hesitant to purchase at first, but with Darryl's encouragement, I went for it. Now I wish he had more like it. The best part is that Darryl caters to young women and to those of us who are more mature and let's say, "full figured". Prices are reasonable for the quality. Darryl is careful about the items he selects for his store. He knows who his customers are. Darryl's has a wonderful selection of casual to dressy, sizes XS to XL, and colors and prints, my personal favorite. Prices are mid-range and reasonable. I have purchased different items there for about 20 years, during which time I have spanned age cohorts and many sizes. I really appreciate the personal shopping service, it's very helpful, but I do not feel pressured. Darryl asks a few questions about what I like or am looking for (and listens!), knows my size and the appropriate styles without asking, and suggests a few items or finds my size. Feedback is honest and if something does not work, he will find something that does. My most recent visit, he was working with two customers, a petite XS woman in her 30s, and defintely-not-petite, XL, 60-year-old me. We both made purchases and left happy. read more

What can I say about Darrly's? Come for dresses, coats, blouses, skirts, and you might leave with a trendy handbag and funky jewelry to boot. Great, large selection of things, great for curvy gals sizes 12 and 14, good selection of reasonably priced items ($75 to $175, including dresses in that higher range) as well as higher-end clothing when the time is right. If you want help, say so. If you want to wander and choose for yourself, say so. One of my secret pleasures is scouring the racks of things before sneaking out of the dressing room for a peek and finally asking Darryl or one of his amazing staff of women, "What do you think?" I hate shopping, but I loved Darryls. They have a good mix of clothes, ranging from sexy to interesting (to quote another reviewer) to classic. The store has a terrific selection of Italian and European clothes, which I love; because I'm tired of that homogeneous chain store look. The prices are reasonable. And the shopping experience was very easy. Darryl and Virginia are very, very helpful without being pushy. I described for them what I think is my best look, and they pulled out the clothes. Then I went searching myself. Much though they wanted to sell, I think they were honest about what worked and what didn't. In short, it was a very pleasant experience, and I was able to find several tops and pants in about an hour's time. I highly recommend it. read more

I came to the shop today having read some very nice reviews... and I was not disappointed. I love the style and fit of their clothes, I am 48 but like to dress nicely, but not like a teenager. I was able to find many cute items that fit well and looked great. Darryl was there and helped me find a dress that I would not normally try... and I love it. (It has a pattern! and it's not black or grey!) The other sales person (I forgot to ask her name) was so friendly and helpful. She pulled a lot from the racks that she thought I would like, and she was spot on, style and size-wise. I ended up buying 2 dresses, a casual weekend jacket, a pair of pants and a button up top. Darryl's is my go-to store for clothes. I get so sick and tired of all the chain stores where everything looks the same. Darryl picks out unique clothing and has options for REAL women - he has plenty of young styles but not teeny-bopper clothes, and many items for older women who have STYLE and don't want to look frumpy or are sick of Eileen Fisher. And the best part is that Darryl and his wonderful staff will help you find things you wouldn't ordinarily try. They are helpful without being pushy, and you can believe them when they say something looks good (or not). The store has a loyal clientele and there is usually nice comraderie in the dressing room area! This is and Upper West Side treasure and I hope Darryl is there for a LONG time. read more

Darryl and his extremely helpful staff will dress - the shopping haters - with style, care, creativity and personal service. Great Service and Fashion, all in the neighborhood! I've been an upper west sider for ages and must have walked by this store dozens of times without knowing what a gem it is. After hearing about it from a well-clad friend, I had two fantastic shopping experiences this summer, and am now a loyal fan. With two new dresses (one a little dressier than the other), two fabulously flattering tops and a new pair of every day pants, I am ready for most occasions. Darryl's has everything from casual to dress up and just really great stuff. I love the space and how it is NOT overcrowded with merchandise and how the salespeople are NOT pushy. They let you pick out what you like, and then they get a sense of your taste and bring you other items that you might like. Darryl, the owner ,has great taste and he is honest. So are his salespeople. They won't tell you that something looks good on you if it really doesn't. Something new comes in almost every week and so for someone who hates to shop I just LOVE it there. I hate shopping for clothes. But I had to find a dress for an event, immediately. Darryl showed me some things I would never have chosen. We all have fixed ideas about what we should and should not wear; what we look good in. I tried them on out of politeness. One dress looked great and is so comfortable and soft, I wear it on planes, I wear it to everything. And the best thing about the experience was that Darryl treated me as though he liked thinking about what would make me look my best. This is the best store for women's clothing in Manhattan. At least half of my current wardrobe was purchased there. Darryl has a keen eye for selecting distinctive brands and styles of clothing that will fit women of all shapes, not just the skinny straight ones. The clothing costs more than that in the chain stores, but it fairly priced and chic. I am a little surprised at some comments disparaging the service as I find it to be excellent. The sales staff is not pushy but Darryl and his staff often suggest great choices for me to try on that I usually end up buying. Do not miss the Aldo Martins sweaters and the Joseph Ribkoff jackets and tops. read more

Whether it is new dresses for work, a dress for a black tie event or a quick "I just need a new outfit for tonight", I've had nothing but success at this wonderful boutique. Darryl, along with his terrific sales staff, are always helpful and honest...as willing to say "no...I don't think that's right on you" as they are to say "...that looks great!" There is always a great selection of clothing with classic , and yet contemporary, styling. Great accessories as well to complete an outfit. I couldn't recommend this neighborhood gem highly enough.
