But when things are normal, the lighting is excellent, the clothes are well organized and the staff is always, and I repeat, always polite and friendly. They are business people and this is their business and customers need to understand that. As with any business based on donations, you can find wonderful things at very reasonable prices or you can find nothing at all to your liking. But that is why Unique Boutique -- and each item is unique -- is so much fun. A note -- someone reviewed it saying "I called to ask about furniture and the guy said no and hung up the phone..." This is what I mean about customers not understanding retail...you asked a question, he answered it and why should he stay on the phone with you ? There is no way this store has the space to accommodate furniture and once that is clear, there is nothing more to say, so salespeople hang up. If you would like them to apologize for not taking or selling something impossible, that is what you expect culturally, but other people do not think that is necessary in what is not a personal relationship. You asked a question, you got an answer, good bye, move on.

He sells well-made and trendy clothing that I see nowhere else. You will not see everybody walking up and down the street in your clothes! The clothing here is sassy and classy, and there is a wide assortment--from everyday clothes to professional and party wear, and they last for decades. I still wear all the clothes that I bought from him in the 90s. I feel like Darryl is my personal stylist. He is forthright about what looks good on me, and he will not allow me to buy anything that does not compliment my figure or complexion. I always get compliments on the unique clothes that I found there. Importantly, Darryl's always has sales, and I since I only shop for things on sale, his clothing is reasonably priced. Darryl's is a NY gem that has saved me when I needed an outfit for a special occasion and could not find anything online or in the major stores. Darryl's is my favorite boutique in the universe!

I have been shopping at the various Variazioni stores for YEARS. I usually find something, nearly…read morealways on "sale." Some things are an excellent value, others, eh. But the clothes are generally well-made and very stylish. Once, I decided that I really, really needed a short down coat with an enormous fur hood. Variazioni had ONE left, in a medium. On sale! I bought it and wore it happily in the freezing cold. The salespeople can be pushy. I had a favorite, non-pushy, quite languid sales associate at the Columbus Avenue location. Today, on Broadway, I was practically chased around the store by some man who smelled terrible and kept telling me he had things in other colors, and bringing me tops to go with the pants and skirt I was holding. I finally told him that I like to think while I'm shopping. He wasn't happy, but did leave me alone. I bought a beautiful pair of white silk palazzo pants and a cream sweater. They have some gorgeous spring/summer dresses, but the prices seemed quite high. Sometimes it's best to check online and see what the price is elsewhere.

At this store in particular though the workers were on their phone and not helping with fitting rooms/on the floor, I had such good service a year ago and now it seems a little overwhelming being there and they misplaced the held items and said they were back on the floor when we checked they weren't in the sizes chose. Eventually they found them but we were only there for an hour and in that span of 40 min they decided to put our stuff back?! Really dissatisfied it seemed that the workers there were miserable and didn't care about the customers.
