I also appreciated that the food wasn't overly salted, as is often the case at many restaurants. However, I found myself searching for more depth and flavor in the ramen broth. The Firecracker Shrimp was enjoyable, but the mayonnaise-based sauce became a bit overpowering after a few bites. Daruma is beautifully decorated, bright and inviting. The service is welcoming and helpful but the food....is extremely underwhelming. I love Asian fare so I was excited to give Daruma a try. Our server came in quickly with suggestions. We settled on cheesy Rangoon, firecracker shrimp and chili wontons. The chili wontons were smothered in sriracha and covered in cilantro and scallions. I was expecting a burst of flavor from the chili oil but no. There was no spice. No five spice, no ginger at all. The crab Rangoon came topped with a cream sauce which is new for me but just okay. The firecracker shrimp were covered in a sweet creamy sauce. No fire to be found. The food came out extremely fast so I'm more than sure everything was microwaved or air fried. A Japanese restaurant with no Asian staff or Asian customers is a dead giveaway that you're about to be disappointed. Again, the place was nice and our server was super sweet and attentive but Trader Joe's frozen foods might be more interesting. read more

Daruma Ramen Bar & Grill is the amazing new Asian restaurant on Government Street, just east of its junction with Acadian. If are really old you might remember it as the former location of Shing's. It's newly renovated and is impressive both inside and out. The exterior has amazing lighting as well as beautiful finishes. There's lots of on site parking, and the lot is smooth and well marked. These lots of flags right now letting folks know they are open. The interior is even more amazing! There are private booths that look like they have been transported from Tokyo, then there are tables of varying sizes. There's a full service bar as well. There's even a robotic statue by the front door. The Asian theme is turned up to eleven, and it looks good! But what's really the main attraction here is the cuisine. There's a wide variety of Asian dishes. Ramen is a significant menu item, and there are a variety to choose from. The top of the line is the LSU Champions Ramen! Definitely a good choice. However, they have much more here. There are rice and noodle plates. There's a good selection of wings. Buns and dumplings are well represented. The selection of boba and related teas and drinks is significant. Appetizers include many favorites (I recommend the Tuna Tataki). The menu isn't limit to one cuisine, there's some Thai and Korean dishes here. Lots of variety and options for customization! The service is good as well. The waitstaff are prompt and helpful, and can guide you on menu choices if requested. The dishes come out pretty quickly, which is always nice. Presentations are excellent, I enjoyed having edible orchids as garnish. I'm really pleased with this addition to the Government Street Arts and entertainment district! read more

Our third time here and the food has consistently been outstanding! We especially love the New Orleans wings! The service was phenomenal, We had Kenzie this time and she was outstanding! One suggestion is please allow your waste staff to taste the food. Otherwise there's no way they can describe it to us! I've been in the restaurant business for many many years and I need to know what the food taste like to describe it to the customers.!! I would suggest in your downtime when it's not busy serve up an appetizer and let the staff Try it ! Or actually an entrée !! I recently went to lunch here. I ordered the cheesy rangoon, onion fried rice with egg. I didn't like Rangoon fried rice was ok. The service was ok also waiter was a little busy he was nice and timely. The atmosphere was quiet and cozy. Okay I got the black tonkotsu ramen a crawfish queso dip and there was a crispy chicken side The crispy chicken is basically Taiwanese chicken with no seasoning but the problem I had is those chicken is either pure coating fried or half of it is the starch covered with very small piece of chicken . The ramen was okay the broth didn't taste clean like what I prefer a tonkotsu is. Its main flavor is not the pork broth but rather the black garlic oil and the big spoonful of white garlic paste they gave you in the ramen. The pork wasn't marinated long enough so the char Siu is not very soft. The egg was overcooked it basically had a soft solid inside it was runny and it also didn't have a good soy based marinated taste. While I think it's a good experience I do not think the food was that great in my opinion a good bowl of tonkotsu ramen come from a clean broth the other stuff assist the flavor, also the kikurage, corn, and bamboo shoot that comes in the ramen was lacking there aren't many pieces of it unlike other ramen joints. The crawfish queso dip is disappointing you can taste that the queso is like a store bought nacho cheese with frozen crawfish tails which for $12 I don't think I will order again because it tastes like something you can just make at home for less and it be pretty simple. The ambiance of the place is nice. It's a small place but they put in work to make the place looks nice and the server came to check on us pretty often. My husband and I went here on a double date after seeing great reviews on tik tok. Its on Government st & had ample parking. We went on a Sunday at noon & it was not crowded at all. I know there was pineapple in it & it was delicious. I ordered honey chicken as an appetizer & it was exactly what I was hoping it would be! I couldn't decide between hibachi & ramen so I got both! Shrimp hibachi which was huge, tasted great. Only thing is they left the tails on the shrimp & I hate that so bad lol. I ordered the lunch size of spicy beef ramen & when it came I had to confirm it was the lunch size because it was also huge! Me and my family were currently on a road trip when we found this spot along the way and wanted to try it. Everything was great until the server told us the total. They said it was $82 without showing us the check. At the time, nothing seemed suspicious, so we paid $100 in cash. However, the change we received was only $12 and some coins. We thought they had automatically included the tip, so we went to the front desk and asked for a printed receipt. The receipt showed that the total was actually $79, not $82. First, they told us the wrong total, and then they didn't give us the correct change. Our server gave us another $5 back, but we were still missing $3. The server then said she had dropped the money on the floor, which was why the change wasn't correct. Daruma just opened so let's give them some grace for service speed. Everyone knows BR swamps new restaurants so they are overwhelmed for sure. They also don't have their liquor license yet so maybe wait a few weeks. After what seemed like forever watching the building be renovated, Daruma is finally open! It's beautiful inside to say the least. No expense was spared when it came to light fixtures and decor. I do wish the central lantern lightbulbs were changed to 2700K bulbs to match the other lights and the black chandelier drum shades around the perimeter of the dining room be rotated so the seams face the wall. It's the details that set restaurants apart and I think these were just oversights. Unfortunately, like so many restaurants, they are using too much soap to clean the new floors which make them horribly sticky. The worst. Onto the food: The menu is overwhelming. For advertising as being a ramen restaurant, there are too many other dishes competing for space. It's a mix of Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Japanese, and Mexican. It made my head spin. Do one thing and do it well. The dishes we ordered were all presented beautifully and delicious. The only issue I had was with the kimchi salad. It was literally just a plate of kimchi. The robot waiter is a gimmick that surely has to be put to pasture soon as it kept tripping and spilling soup. I wish this restaurant well and hope it can pivot to serve Baton Rouge for many years. read more

Hate to do this and it is my first time here, but I was disappointed. Food was below average. Got the chicken katsu, it looked like it had come out of a box. $14 and all we got was a very small rice portion and 5 chicken strips barely sprinkled with the curry sauce. Nothing tasted like homemade. Restaurant decor was okay clean, but the service was not. Front person was there but really didn't want to be there and our server was all over the place. Bad experience and might, might give it another try. I know overall food prices are high and doesn't give you an excuse for putting out bad food and bad service. I was so disappointed with the food I didn't take any photos. Go try it during restaurant week and maybe you will have a better experience than I did. read more

We went here for the first time almost 2 weeks ago. A lot of vision went into the inside of this building, it is STUNNING. We have seen quite a few restaurants come and go over the years but I truly hope this one is to stay. The food, please please please get the Chashu Bao Bun. They are so flavorful and delicious. The bulgogi steak bao bun is equally as delicious. The Black Tonkotsu ramen is very flavorful, it just needed a little kick. We will be back very soon. Our first visit to Daruma. Menu had a lot to offer. We ordered the shrimp tempura ramen and the pearl chicken ramen, both were delicious, lots of textures and flavors. Generous portions, happy to enjoy this for lunch the next day, not your average take-out bag! I had a to-go order. I ordered shrimp spring rolls and Surf & Turf Ramen Soup. The spring rolls were excellent; actually, the best I have had. The Ramen was a little disappointing. I had the Sweet Potato Clear Noodles, which unfortunately congealed and I could not separate them. The broth didn't help with get them apart either, although it was very tasty. There was too much liquid in the container, and I got splashed with the red greasy stuff. So, I ate all the protein, and the vegetables, and called it a day.
