Had a great experience at Umami Japanese Bistro. In my opinion, this is a much better option than the downtown Tsunami Sushi. The food tasted fresher and overall higher quality, and the prices are quite reasonable for what you get. Service was friendly and quick, which made the whole experience even better. The atmosphere is more on the homey side, especially with LSU nearby - it feels relaxed, comfortable, and less "scene-heavy" than some other spots. Overall, a really solid go-to for Japanese food in Baton Rouge. Would definitely come back.

This place blows my mind every time! I wish I could eat here every day. All of the food was so amazing, the fish is so rich with flavor and fresh. There are some really cool things on their menu that you can't find anywhere else in Baton Rouge. Definitely try the bone marrow tartare!!

    * the egg in my Ramen tasted rotten* Well, that was a good hook, wasn't it, I felt like the restaurant still deserve five stars, the best restaurant in my opinion in Baton Rouge besides Soji. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very nice, the menu had pictures and was more extensive than I thought. The service here was great. The food came out fast and here are my highlights. I got the hibachi Crudo and that was pretty good! Good flavor and good quality. next, the sushi that I got was a very delicious, I love coconut flavors with sushi, the sauce that came with was pretty good. Good quality again and was very refreshing. The Ramen was the best part of the meal, one of the biggest Rams have I've had and for the price it was already worth it. Great presentation with a load of toppings. The quality of the toppings were great, but again, just like my first sentence, the egg felt and tasted rotten which ruined the whole mood but again the Ramen was one of the best taste of Ramen I've had. The Ramen was a bit salty but overall, if I were to come back, I would get the Ramen again, I highly recommend!

I love it when I pick a new restaurant to try and every single dish we pick comes out divine. We picked the Sashimi Sampler, Grilled Miso Salmon, the Geisha and Sexiest Woman Alive roll, and to finish it off--the Matcha Crepe Cake. My favorite was the Geisha roll. The lemon added such a fresh take and enhanced the flavors of the rest of ingredients. My husband's favorite was the Grilled Miso Salmon. Austin was our server and gave great recommendations. Great atmosphere! You can't go wrong with this place and I am looking forward to returning!

As a sushi connoisseur, I don't say this lightly: Umami is hands down the best sushi in the Baton Rouge area. The fish is exceptionally fresh, the rice is perfectly prepared, and every roll shows real attention to detail. This is sushi made by people who respect the craft, not shortcuts or gimmicks. If quality and authenticity matter to you, Umami Sushi sets the standard in Baton Rouge.

Our new favorite sushi restaurant in BR! LSU roll and Bao Buns were money! If you are near LSU campus this is a must try.

I had a great lunch at Umami while visiting Baton Rouge. The restaurant has a casual ambiance with flavorful sushi for everyone, whether you are beginner or a sushi connoisseur. There is ample parking right in front of the restaurant but I could see it filling up at peak times, there are a lot of businesses in the surrounding area. We ordered a sample of a few different items so I could try to capture the full experience at once. I had the Rock & Roll and the Sexiest Woman Alive, both were really good. I prefer traditional rolls as I am a beginner for sushi, so I really liked the Rock & Roll. Both rolls had stellar individual ingredients and the overall flavor profile was made up of a small part of each. The restaurant is fairly small so I would visit with small groups, maybe 4-6 people at max. They can probably move a couple of tables to accommodate but I wouldn't bring a group of 10 here. It's a good size for lunch or an early dinner. The employees are nice and attentive, and they even help you decide on an order based on your tastes. I will definitely be back to visit!

A little sad it took me so long to finally make the trek out to LSU to Umami Sushi on Burbank. There are plenty of very good sushi places in the area that have done a great job with the standard "creative" rolls, but Umami's specialty roll menu puts them all to shame. Don't get me wrong, we will still frequent geisha, uchi, etc., but when I want some more creativity and depth, we will bite the bullet and head over to campus. We started out with the Toro belly/truffle appetizer and I accidentally ordered hamachi kama thinking I was ordering the Hamachi Crudo. Boy I'm happy I made that mistake. The yellowtail collar was perfectly broiled and very flavorful. The Toro belly was outstanding as well. The richness of the truffle and the delicateness of the tuna paired wonderfully. For mains, we moved on to the Akami Rouge and Sexiest Woman Alive rolls, both of which were outstanding. The table next to us had Ramen that looked wonderful. We plan to make another trip for soup and yet another for some of the land based animal dishes.

Take out was easy to order online and pick up was quick. I ordered the Love at First Bite Roll which was delicious and perfectly sized although a little pricy. I also ordered the Brussels sprouts, which had a good flavor but were a little oily. I had the matcha crepe cake for dessert which was less flavorful than I expected and was good almost to the end when I found a short black hair inside one of the layers.

Great meal at Umami last night. Well served, and had the Death Valley Roll and Kanpeki Ramen bowl with some hot, house saki. Delish!!

Hands down the best sushi in Baton Rouge. Don't go anywhere else! The quality and freshness are just the best here compared to other local places. I am not a sashimi/nigiri fan however my friend who got the nigiri platter also raved about it. Great friendly knowledgeable service as well.

Enjoyed my visit here for happy hour. We ordered the Rib Stack, Hot Honey Wings, Veggie Fried Rice,…read moreHot Honey Chicken Bao Bun, and Crispy Fish Bao Bun. Overall, everything was good. The standout for me was the veggie fried rice. It had great flavor, and I'd honestly come back for that alone. The Snake Wrangler drink was also a favorite. The only downside was the hot honey. It was very light on both the wings and the bao bun, so the flavor didn't come through as much as expected. Service was efficient and attentive. It's a nice, quaint spot with a cozy patio and indoor seating. Still a solid happy hour option, and I'd definitely return.

Started with hot sake and crispy pig ears. Perfection as always. I tried the new moon fire…read moredumplings...no steam or heat coming from them upon arrival. Try one and they are stone cold but good flavor. I asked Courtney the server if they were meant to be served room temperature (first time having so wasn't Sure). She takes the whole bowl. A nice little bit later my bowl is returned just as my tikka masala queso Is arriving. From the looks of my bowl and the broth it was nuked. Heated in the microwave which was annoying bc I wanted to try these fresh for the first time and also more importantly I ordered them with intentions of eating 2 now and taking the other 3 to go so I could enjoy my queso there. Dumplings can't and shouldn't reheated multiple times over and especially not even once at the restaurant that's serving them. I was honestly just hoping they would have dropped a fresh hot spoon or two of the broth : sauce they were in. Very upsetting for the evening because I was excited to try something new
