Customer service and white glove experience this is NOT. They pretend to be with a nice decor and look expensive. But their customer service is chilis, wait actually maybe chilis is better. The host stand is given orders rained down from mystical owners that they are not to seat incomplete parties. Which I can understand in a hibatchi place. Except that we were the entire table. We were missing one person who was stuck on a call in his car. They wouldn't seat our table; which by the way is how you start getting drink orders and start selling. I'll say to the mystical owner your people do what their told. Food was great. Overall Alan our server did a good job. Mike who stepped in near the end did ok. There was no true top shelf liquor, just normal stuff, nothing spectacular, again stuff we could find at something less than fine dining. I give it one star because the staff doesn't know how to handle criticism and growing. They don't know how to take a note ask for a call back number and say let me have management talk to you. "We are sorry." Was never said. Not a single sorry, so if you're not Sorry that's fine, your not Sorry is heard loud and clear. One star. If you are looking for an upscale fine dining "experience" this is not that experience, every other hibachi grill will satisfy that experience just fine. Their upscale look and feel is an illusion. We celebrated our Daughter's 19th birthday dinner here last night. Had the pleasure of Joey as our chef whom did a great job making it special for her. He was good w his jokes as well as talented. Kept the whole table of 12 laughing throughout the show. First time hearing of an Asian named Joey but then again we came to Japanese restaurant and ordered a Corona. LoL Definitely recommend this restaurant and will be back for the next celebration in the family. We enjoy eating here. The wait staff was very attentive as well. We had a terrible experience at DaRuMa in The Landings . We went there with a group of 17 for birthday celebration and we were charged $25 to bring in a birthday cake . Our service was terrible we were charged for things we did not receive and the managers were so rude when we tried to speak to them about overcharging us they called the police on us . In the end they took off the $40 that they overcharged us . Needless to say we will never go back. read more

I have been a customer since Daruma opened at the Landings, I have been going there at least twice a week, I love the piano bar and Regis, its like a family there, unfortunately it has very poor management, the main manager is very rude to the clientele, many customers at the piano will not be coming back because of rude management aspecially the main manager. Just hosted a group of 10 around an hibachi table at DaRuMa, Bell Tower. It was a great experience. We have a routine dinner group and co-opted it for my wife's birthday. They were flexible enough to allow me to drop off some flowers and place cards with a diagram. Denise, our server, handled my wanting to host the first round of drinks and appetizers. I opted for the birthday package to thoroughly embarrass my wife. That included a paper chef's toque, lava cake with ice cream and candle, and a great picture taken by one of the managers. The show by the chef was great and we all enjoyed the food selections. I am thinking about coming back after the first of the year with a group of 40 to enjoy ourselves. There were 7 of us including 2 8yr olds so we had our own room. Arrived on an Easter Sunday for dinner @ 6:00 Hostesses we're all quite young. Did a lot of chattering between them. Staff was pleasant but not overly friendly. They were training a new Chef and he was a bit nervous. Did ok though. Food was good but have had better. Not very big portions. May give them another try. After that disastrous experience in Palm Springs, I wanted to wipe my memory clean of the last teppanyaki experience. If Saga were still around, that would be my first stop since there is no one better than Chef Max but sadly they closed right before Covid. It was busy at DaRuMa but when they sat us down, they didn't wait to fill all the seats which I appreciated and got our table going. Chef was experienced and fun. Food was great - it was not overly salted which can be a problem. Both and salad and soup were standard but good. I had the filet and it was a shade overcooked for me but still medium rare. The fried rice was tasty - the veggies were a mix of napa, carrots, zuchini, etc. No dessert. Overall, the ambiance is very nice - it's super modern looking and being fairly new, everything looked clean. Service was great from the server to our Chef. I would come here again. read more

My husband and I have eaten at this location several times and really enjoy the entertainment and the food. Only complaint would be that they bother you too many times while during the meal, to take your plates away. The same person asked me four times if I was done with my salad, while I was trying to eat it. The same person also bumped me every time she came by to take a plate. We hadn't been to Daruma in several years. Friends told us they had a good dinner there so we decided to go back & give it a try. Huge disappointment. The scallops in miso were just ok. The salmon was so dry and flavorless that I couldn't eat it. The filet mignon also flavorless. The worst thing was the small cucumber salad that had a horrible chemical taste. I told the waitress to have the chef taste it. She came back to say he didn't find a problem. Wow. We will not be going back there. And it ended up costing around $100 with tip. read more

First time at this restaurant . Food was very good and we went with a party of 15 . Two people in our party ordered chicken and fillet on hibachi . They only received a small portion of fillet . When the cook was informed he said wasn't on the order . When the manager came over he was rude and refused to change the bill. They were charged for a full fillet dinner . It would have cost the place about $20 to keep part of the party happy or 5 minutes to add a piece of chicken to their order . We will never go back . Our bill was about $750 . Delicious meal with the whole table just for us two!! On this recent visit for the Sunset Meal, meaning seated and ordered before 6pm, you get a selection to pick from, Hibachi style dining. We were extremely fortunate to have arrived early and with the place almost empty got a whole table to ourselves. We felt like celebrities and were treated like it too from this experienced and friendly staff. We went with the NY strip steak and it was spectacular!! The dinner comes with soup, salad, shrimp appetizer, stir fried vegetables, rice and green tea for under $25. That is quite a deal with the perk of having it cooked in front of you. This Landings Plaza location is spacious and offers plenty of seating in traditional hibachi tables, there is a sushi lounge or regular tables/booths in the back area. There is plenty of room for everyone and the servers are watching you to ensure you have a nice experience. After years of going to the DaRuMa located on Fruitville, I was very disappointed and would not recommend going to DaRuMa at the Landings. Had 7:30 dinner reservations for a hibachi table which we were reasonably timely seated. The dining room was extremely loud and not very enjoyable for dinner conversation. A lot of bar noise comes into the dining room too. The ginger salad dressing and the brown dipping sauce are very different from the other location and didn't really care for either one!! Brown dipping sauce is my favorite other location and definitely NOT at the Landings!! The chef never asked for the temperature preferences for meats. Realizing this we had to ask, my daughter actually had to ask him to cook her steak rare, but both the duck and steaks were overcooked. The seasoning contained too much black pepper based on the assessment of the 4 people in our party. Ordered a couple specialty drinks, but would not recommend them. The apple pear drink with watermelon snapps was heavy on snapps and the Sakura Tropical Lemonad drink was strong. Server offered to go boxes but had to ask for a fresh container of sauce. The other location offers fresh sauces when packing the to go boxes. Server was very good, helpful with appetizer and drink recommendations. The spicy tuna rolls were very good. If you decide to go, stick to the appetizer specials and regular drinks. read more

We ordered some appetizers but we think our waiter brought us seared tuna appetizer instead of tuna tataki. However, the apps/sushi were very good. Then we got filet and chicken combo hibachi meal. Filet was very tender and delicious. I felt like the rest could have had more seasoning. Service from our chef & waiter was pretty good other than having to wait for a table when we had made a reservation and it was not busy. We just wanted to start ordering drinks and appetizers! We have been to DaRuMa's many times but this was our first time at The Landings. We went for a very special birthday. I had spoken to 3 different people to explain this was a milestone birthday celebration and we would like them to make it special. I paid for the birthday package which I was told included a chocolate lava cake, a special gift and they would come out and sing. Only 1 person came out with the cake and half heartedly sang happy birthday and the "special" gift was a paper chefs hat. My husband requested a chef that would put on a nice show. We got the absolute worst chef that we have ever had!! No personality at all! In fact, the only time he spoke was to ask how we wanted the meat and tuna cooked. It was like they purposely did the opposite of what we asked for. The food was good. For the 4 of us our bill was well over $200 before tip. When I got my bill, I was surprised with an $8.00 up charge for sharing my food with my 12 month old, I was also charged 2x $5.00 each for fried rice (this was not communicated). Pretty pricey but the food was not bad. The cook was awesome and was a BLAST. Only thing that I must admit although I hate to, this was my first experience eating a multiple course meal, with no water. I asked my server twice to fill my water, and although he would return to fill everybody else's soda, he for some reason seemed to refuse to fill the water on the table. read more

Went out for a celebration tonight and had the worst meal I have ever had at either of the Sarasota Daruma restaurants. We were at the south location tonight. The prices have gone way up, but the quality of the food has gone way down. I made the mistake of ordering shrimp which meant I got shrimp appetizer and shrimp for my meal. My husband had steak and shrimp. Half the shrimp we had weren't even deveined which meant I had to pick it out myself before eating. That got old fast so I ended up leaving the restaurant hungry, as the shrimp were also very taste less. My husband said his steak was not very good either. The cook did a good job, it was just low quality food. The only thing that was really good was the soup. The salad tasted good also but was not cut up very well. I think this place has been going downhill recently and is definitely not worth the $35 for a shrimp dinner and $39 for steak and shrimp that we spent. I will have to attempt to find a better Japanese Steakhouse for the future, which is sad because we have celebrated almost every big family occasion here. read more

I am so surprised by the bad reviews! We have never had the hibachi here, but we have eaten in the restaurant area many times. Sometimes the initial vibe is a bit off (unwelcoming) and the hostesses can feel pretty "extra" or entitled for their roles. (Let's tone it down ladies, this is The Landings strip mall after all). But usually our wait staff is very solid/pleasant and our food is always quite good! We go for sushi and the menu items. We have never been disappointed with the food or drinks! The entry with the koi fish is beautiful one-of-a-kind and the seating areas are well designed/decorated. A neighborhood gem! read more
