Place is honestly ridiculous. Got kicked out for touching the rim, the staff is extremely rude and are basically looking to kick people out. Got a guest pass for the day and they expect me to know the rules of the gym. The young girl who I was talking to was not helpful and basically said "it's your fault" and "you can come back tomorrow" as if I would want to. Rules need to be explained if you're a guest not sure why they don't do that. read more

Super nice gym and definitely something different than the other big box gyms that are out there. This place has a lot of adult sports covered as well as different sports leagues for kids love that this is in the community and something that the kids can grow up with the gym has all the right workout equipment and never gets too packed as big as this place is good to say that it's a nice hidden gym in New Braunfels and it's also a great place to park during October fest! read more

Thought the rec center looked cool to take the kids to online. I called to ask if it was like a city community center in San Antonio (where we live) where it's all free, or if it's more like a ymca where you need memberships to enjoy. She said it was like a community center, then told me memberships for non residents is $69 lol. Too expensive for just a day to go check it out. They offer homeschool p.e class for kids which my son loves. The coaches are nice and they just started a swimming class just to play for kids as well. I just wish they offered the same in the summer for kids so they're not bored. Reasonable price as well. We will be back once it starts again. read more

Everything I need at a gym! I am trying to have a routine of going twice a week weather permitting; hills and valleys away from the place. I've done the swim classes and the early morning core workouts 15mins/ + 15 stretching. Great environment. I also walk the indoor track that is upstairs. I haven't tried the organized pickleball yet. Next on my list. I want to bring my grandson (teen) to see the place and maybe he will want to workout now and then. read more

I absolutely love Das Rec. Let me tell you why: A family of four can get a membership for around $50 a month. When you arrive you are almost always greeted by a kind employee. The facility is very well equipped and maintained. Employees are constantly cleaning and patrons gave access to sanitation wipes to clean equipment after use. 99/% of the people clean up after they use the equipment. Das Rec employs people of all ages and abilities. They have employees with physical and developmental disabilities as well as older individuals who may be looking to supplement retirement income. When you go to Das Rec you see the same people often and everyone is kind to o e another. This isn't a gym full of egos imo. The locker rooms are private, safe, and secure. You will not see something like, I don't know, a man in the women's locker room or children running around naked for example. At least I have never seen that and I'm there almost every day at all different times of the day. They have two pools, indoor basketball courts, pickleball courts, workout rooms for things like aerobics, and indoor track, a vast array of workout equipment, cardio machines, cable TV, an outdoor training center, and parking is ample. They sell snacks and drinks, and they offer so many classes that are free like Yoga, Zumba. Etc. They offer swim lessons for children as young as 6 months old for around $80 for 6 weeks of lessons. They also have child care available so parents can get a workout in while with their children. Yes it does get crowded sometimes but it all depends on what time of day you go. If you want to have a great place to get and stay fit, to be around people that are kind and welcoming, Das Rec is for you. You will see young teens trying to improve their fitness as often you will see someone in the elder years doing the same. You will see families, couples, singles, every possible demographic at Das Rec. Don't listen to the negativity if you find any. Das Rec is truly an amazing place. New Braunfels has grown so much and there are some people who may find that intimidating or what not but that's just how it goes. People want to live where they feel a part of a community. Das Rec exemplifies what it means to be in a community where people feel safe and comfortable. read more

The potential is there, it's just a lot of idiots planned it. New beautiful gym and equipment, but kinda small machine and workout bench-wise. It gets crowded in there. Now the ugly: 1 set of water fountains for the WHOLE workout area- including the basketball courts, cardio & weight and exercise classes. Don't try to use both at once because they didn't install the valve right so turning one fountain on will cut the other's supply off. The employees don't care that kids play on the machines and throw weighted balls around- it's not them paying for it if it breaks, right? And swim meets cause 100% lack of parking. And this is why everyone thinks the government is stupid...because their actions prove it every time. I can't even find parkour anymore. I go in the morning it's pack, I go in the afternoon it's pack. I even took off work just to workout it's pack. I'm paying membership for me and my kid yet it's always pack I'm always on a waitlist for their kids club now and every time I would go to Das Rec and workout I'm wasting gas driving here and not being able to workout. they need to either add slots for kids club Or open or extend this gym. The Kinder Care is always full and never has room. So if you are a person who likes to take the group exercise classes be prepared to never have a chance to attend them if you have children. Also the kinder Care closes at 1:00. So there is no daycare offered from 1:00-4:00. So the family membership does not service your entire family due to the Gyms high enrollment. This gym is not for parents who have young children and need to use the Kinder Care. read more

It's a great day to come play in New Braunfels! The city has a wonderful new Multi-purpose building and recreation Center for its residents and visitors. It is THE premier spot for promoting healthy living, social interaction with vibrant sports and recreational play. It has an indoor walking/jogging track- a leisure pool, kiddie area that is only a foot deep with the indoor waterscape, and a water slide that loops outside of the building make it a good escape from the heat of summer in Texas. Lap swimming all day and a variety of aquatic classes offered. A resistance channel for zero impact therapy and training! Pool party room rentals, wow! Fitness floor and. Cardio room have superb variety of fitness equipment including Precor, Cybex, Hammer Strength, Sci Fit., TRX. The functional fit area is amazing! Staff is extremely helpful to assist with all questions. Group exercise classes are free with membership or day pass and personal trainers on staff for your questions or for additional fitness support at an extra cost. Kids can some along with supervised play in the Kinder Care area or play in the large Gymnasium. Meeting rooms for craft parties or business meetings with automated screens & equipped for video presentations make these rooms easy to present in and very functional. Just when I thought the congestion at Das Rec could not possibly get any worse, it did. This morning I arrived at 9:00 a.m. to find people circling the parking lot in their cars, trying desperately to find a spot. The parking gods smiled on me; like a vulture, I followed people exiting and was able to get in. Once inside Das Rec, I was met by an overwhelming mass of people, mostly children with parents, grandparents, et al., participating in the basketball competitions. Utter chaos. The yoga class was cancelled so a pop-up photography studio could take pictures. Three times during the spin class at 9:30, an announcement was made warning anyone who had parked at the retail center across the street would be towed. I ask you, where were people supposed to go? How do you think people living in the neighborhood are going to react when Das Rec members start parking in front of their homes? Why did you choose to hold these tournaments on the busiest day of the week? Could you think of nothing else? How about starting at noon? How about having them on Sunday? How about arranging for shuttle transportation? You have made your priorities quite clear about which members you will accommodate. DO SOMETHING to resolve the mess you have created. read more

I've lived in N.B. for most of my life, (over 40 years) and the city can't get anything right, and this is a prime example. WAY underbuilt, WAY overcrowded, it's just a mess. I will never go to this place again as when I am there, I can't get to the machines because there aren't enough for all the people. The locker room is too small, the pool schedules are seemingly put together by the city idiots, and the entire space needs to be torn down and built over. N.B. has ruined the entire city because of their constant "begging" people to move here, but as usual, didn't plan for the expansion. This is yet another example of their poor planning. read more

Crawling with children and Nude males running around in the women's locker room. Absolutely disgusting. It's like if Jeffrey Epstein ran a chucky cheese. I feel like a total pervert trying to use the locker room with a bunch of nude males and children. I actually feel dirtier after I shower because the setting is so inappropriate. There are no family locker rooms. I asked staff and Das Rec has no policy against males in the ladies locker room. Never been to such a gym in the United States. Looks like an IKEA store not German architecture Wasted money on Berkley Gym Floor. Locker room is too small. It is C shape layout. It is crowed with 4 people in it. This is a 77,0000 sqft facility. Only one water fountain. No towels. The equipment is good. VERY EXPENSIVE BUILDING. We voted 16 million for it and it cost 24 million. That's $324.00/ sqft for something that does not fit New Braunfels Architecture Style. Industry standard for a rec center is $140-$290 per sqft. Crying children. The website is vague and does not specify ages for open or exercise swim. Children aren't even allowed in the pool area during exercise swim. The slide is not in the area of a class. There is a specific time for toddlers. When I bought my day pass and asked where the pool is located, with my 2 obliviously older kids, she said nothing. What a bummer about the pool hours! The water slide is a cruel reminder to the kids that the pool is closed to them after school. Sad the parents have to spring for an expensive birthday party there to be able to use it. I don't have young children anymore but we did have fun at places like these when they were little. That all being said, the place is super clean (it is brand new) a few of the machines needed guidance but the staff was really busy in their conversations so I didn't bother them with questions. I thought about using their personal training services but the few that I saw looked like high school students that didn't weigh more than 95 lbs. I know, I know, can't please everyone and like I said the place is brand new so they need time to work out their kinks but we're in New Braunfels! We love our kids and our community. It's ok. Wish they had a sauna or hot tub. Pool only goes to 3.5 feet deep. Kinda crappy unless you wanna swim laps then it's up to 5 ft deep. Small locker room but if it's not packed it does the job. Basketball court is top notch. Pickleball (like tennis) looks fun I'll try it someday. Honestly so tiled. Why the hell is the city gym closed on Sunday? Like come on. It supposed to serve the public/residents. The combination of bad hours and not being available every day of the week makes this very unfavorable. Whoever is in charge of fixing these things should re consider hours and days open. Although the building is big, at least having an open gym brings in more revenue, just the gym or track are easy to monitor and it doesn't take many people to monitor a small gym as such. This place has poorly thought out pool hours. Unless your kids are home schooled, don't plan on taking them to the pool as it is adults only from after school until bedtime. What's worse is no one that works here is familiar with the rules so one employee will say it's fine and the next will kick you out after you are already swimming. Plus whoever designed the pool area thought it would be a good idea to surround it with smooth concrete that is extremely slippery when wet. read more

There's two problems one the staff are rude. As a young adult they never give the young adults respect. One woman told us it's not nice to make fun of a special needs kid but we weren't even near her and she thought it was me and my friends. So the manager told us we had to leave because of that and they were gonna right something down. I kindly ask what they were putting down to see if it was true and he said " Don't give me additude" and he was giving me additude. BEWARE!!!!!! I have been coming to the Water Aerobics class here for Five months. Although I have really been enjoying the actual class itself There is a women that goes three times a week. She makes the entire class about herself, she sings at the top of her voice, yells across the class constantly and repeats all the instructions loudly. Last week I asked this women to please keep her voice down since it was giving me a headache. She yelled no and for me to shut up and get out if i didnt like it Then she continued to Basically bully me and verbally attack me I was shocked to be treated this way. I asked the instructor (Nora to help me and to get a manager she completely ignored me so I filed a written complaint with management. Imagine my surprise when at the next class this instructor taught the first thing she said was. Everyone be as loud as you can!!! If you are looking for an environment to relax and enjoy a good workout. This is not the class for you. read more

I totally agree with the previous reviewer. The pool hours are complete joke. If you're a stay-at-home mom with a toddler you get a 3-hour block in the middle of the day every day of the week. If you're an adult you can swim pretty much anytime you want. If you're a 5 to 10 year old kid there's no opportunity for you to swim unless you pay an additional $60 to do their lessons. I'm really annoyed that all my tax dollars went to building these pools and then some management person decides to create the Bizarro schedule. read more
