I recently picked up my bike post tune-up. I was told it wouldn't take long but after a few days I hadn't received a call. I called the shop and was told that they had tried to call me but had the wrong number. Everything went smootly and I have been happy with the work that was done... Except for one thing. It is obvious that nearly all their employees are men upon riding my bike again. They must have "fixed" my seat during the tune up and adjusted it to be parallel with the ground. Lady bits and a parallel seat do not mix. Sadly, I didn't realize it until I had rode a little. I ended up having to fix it once I returned home, but only after acquiring bruised lady parts. read more

DASH is definitely the best local bike shop in Providence. Super friendly and helpful, well-stocked for its size, cool place to just pop into for some tubes or lights or to get a big repair. These guys are in the business because they love bikes, not to make a quick buck. My one big experience with Dash was to get the drivetrain of my bike overhauled-- more complicated than I expected because of my old and obscure chainrings. The guys at Dash spent a good amount of time poring through their stock and catalogs to determine the best choice and, contrary to the stereotype, didn't try to push the most expensive stuff. Once the parts were shipped, the repair turnaround was super quick, even during early spring tune-up season. I've also brought my bike in for various little things since then-- headtube adjustments, mysterious chain link breakage, and they've always taken a look at it right away and made the quick fix. While making the repair, the guys are friendly and offer tips and advice. They also don't try to squeeze every buck out of you-- they replaced the broken chain link for free (no charge for the part or no labor). It might seem like a minor thing to not-- how much does a single link cost anyway?-- but is a refreshing difference from the somewhat common experience of getting overcharged for labor. read more

Needed 2 good affordable bikes and met David when we came through door and he was great. Not condescending to us and gave good advice. Didn't try to up sell us and listened to our concerns. This is a very important thing because for a relatively high dollar purchase, I don't tolerate sales people who are distracted and want to sell you a bike that is "his favorite" but not suited to your specific needs- seat, handlebar, brakes, and in my wife and my case, important physical constraints ( her knee, my neck). I would recommend them as new customers. As far as service, I saw several people come in while we were in the store and they were greeted, politely treated, and promptly helped. About what you'd expect on the West Side, lots of single speed or fixed gear bikes and some higher end road bikes. The staff is pretty indifferent, I've been in here twice looking for a new bike and have never been approached with an offer for assistance. I guess it's more of a self service type thing. I made the mistake to bring my newly acquired bike to this shop on my way home from work (i.e., I was wearing slacks, blouse and nice shoes). My bike was a garage clean-out, awesome 70s racing bike that I felt fortunate to find, it needed a serious tune-up but I figured the cost would be negligent when compared to buying a bike. I brought it in, requested new tires (which the kid helping me scoffed at) in addition to the tune-up. After waiting almost two weeks to get my bike fixed, I discovered that they had not replaced my tires and I was riding around on ancient tires that were completely flat after about 20 miles. To make matters worse- the people who gave me a lot of attitude- I'm assuming because I didn't look hipster enough- no trendy blood-flow constricting jeans or Chrome Horse bag; though perhaps it wasn't my look, maybe they would have been rude to me regardless. Anyway, terrible experience. Couldn't believe they mocked my request for tires, didn't give me new tires and let me ride out of there doomed to go flat in 2 days! I went here because they're close to my house. However, now I go Caster's on Fourth on the East Side- the extra trek is well worth the timely and helpful service I get there. read more

They had to dig around a lot and check multiple sources to get what I needed. They also leant whatever tools and advice I needed. Bought my bike here last year for a tune up. They were quick, friendly and did a great job. Oh and I got money off thanks to a yelp deal!

What more can I say? I've bought two bikes from these guys, and had many more serviced and repaired. It really doesn't get much better than this shop. No spandex clad elitist atmosphere (which if it's your thing, that's cool, too!). These guys are in it for the love of cycling and it shows. There's no nickel and diming you to death on little things - they always take time to answer your questions and make sure you are making the best choice for you and not the one that will pad their wallets. I started my bicycle journey with the thought that I wanted a bike, but was not sure if I would like it. I shopped around and bought a cheapo from craigslist. I then took it to Dash to get some brake pedals installed. That bike was complete garbage no matter which way I looked at it. Then I took it into Dash and tried to get a tune up. They let me know everything that was wrong with the cheapo. I needed brakes, tires, wheels, blah, blah, blah to the tune of $200. They began to explain to me that they can fix my cheapo, but I would still be riding a cheapo and not enjoying it. I left until I was ready to actually buy a new bike. After starring at my cheapo for weeks and not riding it, I decided it was time to get a real bike. I walked in to Dash and told them I was ready to buy a bike. They asked if I knew what I wanted and I pointed at the wall to the bike I liked. They sized me up real quick and told me to take it for a spin to see how it felt. I was allowed to go surprisingly far and they didn't even lojack me. I rode around and loved the bike, but hated the handlebars. I went back to Dash and told them I want it and that I wanted that sweet green. Had to order it because I wanted the upgraded lighter bike and that really sweet green. This was on the Friday before the 4th of July and I was told my bike would be there Tuesday. After a long weekend of drinking, I went to Dash Tuesday to pick up my new toy. I walked in and she was ready to go. Funny enough two other guys were also in there picking up their sweet green bikes at the same time as me. I walked outside and hoped on ready to go rock. I threw my leg over and started to pedal only realizing then that I was way too drunk to be on a bike. The bikes I ran into also confirmed my drunkness, so I decided to walk. I starred at my new toy until today when I finally took it out for its' inaugural spin. Sweet baby Jesus! It was magical. I rode all along the East Bay Bike path with all of the jealous people watching me. The only issue I had was that the seat was a little too high, which was digging in my taint. On the way back home, I stopped by the shop and told them about my taint issue. They lowered the seat and sent me off on a test ride. It was great...even better than before. I went back to the shop one more time for me and my taint to thank them for all they did. I will definitely be back again for all of my bicycle needs. read more

Helpful, speedy and friendly - this shop is wonderful! They talk you through everything in a really conversational way, even if they know much much more about bike maintenance than you could ever hope to. I was able to get a same-day fix on something pretty urgent in just a few hours, and also a thoughtful explanation about what other adjustments my bike - which was a craigslist find and needs *bit* more work - should have to ride its best. I have total trust in this place and am lucky we have such a great shop in pvd! read more

We took an old bike for a tire service and to check out the crankset that was missing a couple of bolts. The staff was friendly and helpful and follow the unicorn like quality of putting customers first. Unfortunate the bike is an antique, and the part needed hasn't been on the market since the industrial revolution, I think. They helped with what they could, offering to remove the smaller crankset to avoid it from flopping around and gave us the information to possibly get it online. They fixed the one tire and aired the second one as well. The bike rides well now and will return to install the new crankset, if we ever find it. I may be going back anyway, since there's a bike I have my eye on. read more

I could not have asked for a better place to rent a bike from in Providence. I was in providence for only a few days, and arrived on a saturday evening. I stopped by to inquire about their sunday hours, adn they told me that they were closed, but after finding out that i was leaving monday morning and only had one day to explore the city by bike, they allowed us to rent bikes saturday evening, and return them monday morning, while only charging us the single day rate. On top of that, the guys at the front desk gave us a TON of suggestions of things to see and places to try. read more

While browsing the shop for a few new components, I had the displeasure of witnessing an employee here behaving extremely immaturely. Not entirely sure what exactly was happening, but an employee with glasses and a wax-curled mustache was being incredibly rude to another individual in the shop. He was actually screaming at this other person, who seemed certainly to not have earned that level of disrespect. Perhaps it was a customer? Another employee? Doesn't really matter to me, this employee was being totally awful and annoying. I'm not usually the type of person to write these sorts of reviews, but I must say that sort of behavior from an employee really reflects poorly on management at Dash bicycle. I'm not likely to come into the shop for a while simply because I don't want to deal with this guy. read more

This place is great. I went in today and Leo the owner helped me find the most cost effective solution for my problem. The bike mechanic then gave me a quick lesson on the adjustments my bike needed and I walked out spending 38 bucks for new brake levers handlebar grips and cable. AND they installed the levers and grips free of charge. This was my first time in here and it was great. Here is a copy and paste of my other review: These guys are awesome. I definitely agree with the other reviewers. Today I completely broke apart my rear derailleur and needed a new one. Stopped by the shop and they were more than happy to help me and answer ALL (and believe me I had a ton) of my questions even though I was only buying a low-end model. I put the part on myself but realized I didn't have the right wrench to tighten the pinch bolt. Went back and they let me use one of their stands and gave me tons of awesome advice and tips. I've been to all of the other bike shops in Providence (East Providence Cycle, Providence Bicycle, Caster's, REI) and these guys are top notch. They're not out to nickel and dime you at all and they are more than happy to help no matter what your price range. Rented two bikes to coast around all of Providence throughout the day and night of our second day here in Rhode island. The staff was extremely courteous and professional. When we ran into trouble with a flat; we were promptly assisted with the option of a delivery of a new tire or bike pickup from our current location. The process to rent the bikes was Swift and painless. Signed a waiver, swiped my card and we were out of there in under 10min. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting the Providence area as the city is very cyclist friendly and can provide a more intimate experience of the many sights to see in this beautiful area. read more

I love DASH and the guys there are really great--smart, quick, helpful and generous. I would recommend them to any and all friends! I got an awesome new saddle and they helped me by adjusting the angle, height, etc. They even offered to let me try the new saddle for a few days and come back for any adjustments, etc. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because it is a little pricey for me (I am a student) and aside from the yelp deal its a little tight on my budget. read more

Truly these are 'bike guys'. It's obvious when you walk in to the store, that they will treat you the way they'd want to be treated - very low key and without pressure.
