I came here to get treatment for my issue with my parotid gland. I had been receiving treatment in South Carolina and had to come back to California. After talking with the receptionist who was nice and understanding they are out of network, I asked to find out if Dr. Chen did saliendoscopies before paying $300. As this was what I was recommended to get when I came back to Ca from my ENT in SC. When I asked this the staff got incredibly weird, asked Dr. Chen who they inclined was offended by my question, and said I should have asked on the phone prior to my appointment. The other lady said he seemed offended, and asked if I could just "be done." I found out he doesn't do them and politely left. Strange experience here. Dr Chen is so nice, knowledgeable and professional. He is very thorough and gives detail and easy to understand explanation. I went to see Dr Chen for a second opinion when the first doctor refused to do a biopsy for a small growth inside my mouth and told me its removal would be an elective surgery in the hospital. This was my mistake for not seeing Dr Chen to begin with. Dr Chen decided to remove the mass and sent it to pathology. Overall, he's a great doctor. He cares and takes time explaining everything he's doing. His office staffs are very professional, polite and friendly. read more

In spite of my internist recommendng this office - have to say I've never experienced a poorer excuse for a medical practice as far as infrastructure and appointments. After having an issue. And get a date almost a month later. I sucked it up. Should have immediately gone elsewhere. Anyhow - Appointment was cancelled for a Monday late Sunday afternoon. Luckily my case was not serious. Although I had changed work Monday to that was a loss of a days income. So when they offered to reschedule me weeks later. Vs the next day or so -- Well. That's a tell to anyone who expects reasoned medical care especially with a referral. (No reason was provided ) It's a tell. "We don't give one hoot about you " I can accept that. Report to readers my impression of a lackadaisically weak approach to medical care or concern and suggest you look elsewhere Or maybe this doctor is just so overworked he can't actually see patients in a sanely timely manner. Does it matter if you're sick? In closing. If you're silly enough to call. Hope you're hearing is canine perfect. Even their phone system is barely audible every single interaction. Dr. Chen performed 4 sinus procedures for me and did a perfect surgery. I highly recommend him.

I saw Dr. Chen over a year ago regarding my severely deviated nose. I had been living with this situation for what seems like all of my life, and for the last 15 years, I utilized on a daily basis, Afrin and Neosynephrine products to alleviate my constant plugged-up nose. It provided temporary relief each and every time and I became completely dependent, addicted would be a better term to these type of nasal sprays. In our first meeting, Dr. Chen indicated my nose was severely deviated and that I would also benefit from removing scar tissue in my nose and addressing the turbinets, three procedures to be done in a two-hour surgery. He utilized a scope and put me on the big screen of his office to allow me to visually see what the interior of my nose looked like. I left Dr. Chen's office feeling good about the possibilities. For the next year I kept putting off a follow-up appointment to schedule the surgery, as I felt to afraid that something bad could happen making the situation worse than it already was. At this point I felt I had to make a decision either way so I scheduled that follow-up appointment approximately 14 months after the original meeting. Upon seeing Dr Chen for the second time, he stated that he would perform the following procedures: (a) Septo Plasty (b) Bilateral submucous resection of inferior turbinate (c) bilateral nasal repair. I signed off on the necessary paperwork and the day of my surgery finally arrived a week later. Upon arriving at the outpatient clinic, the nurses prepped me, and the anesthesiologist went over a few items, and the next thing I knew it was all over, surgery completed. Dr Chen, the true professional he is, called me to follow up and ensure I was doing well post-surgery. He was kind enough not to pack my nose, rather utilizing plastic-like sticks to keep my nose secure while I recovered. Being able to breathe ever so slightly from my nose immediately after surgery was a plus. Over the next 48-72 hours, the slight bleeding subsided after as my nose began healing. On my post-op appointment a week later, I had those plastic-like sticks removed and immediately since that time, I was profoundly moved that for the first time in my life that I recall, I could breathe through my nose, not 50%, or 60%, but what felt like 100% better, the most incredible feeling that I have been able to experience regarding my nasal passages. Several weeks after my surgery, my situation improved even more. I cannot thank Dr. Chen enough for his thoroughness, clearly explaining and answering all the questions I had throughout this process. An excellent surgeon in my opinion, and a human being with kindness that makes you feel at ease. His decades of experience truly show, and I am thankful that I was able to find him among the many choices we have as patients. As one of the recent reviews stated, this office is unethical and greedy. I came here for a consultation in April which they charged me $250 for upfront. They were supposed to file a claim with my insurance and then issue a refund, but it has been over three months since. I called them 4 times since my consultation to simply get a status update, but Kimberly (front desk) constantly blew me off. Either the billing office was on vacation, or she would "get back to me by the end of the day". I never got a return call or a single status update to this day, and apparently the billing office is still out of office. I wrote a formal letter requesting an itemized bill so that I could submit the claim myself and personally handed the letter to their office. They still have not responded to that formal letter and it has been 1 month since I gave them that letter. I recommend going to any other ENT. This place will literally steal your money and lie to your face. read more

And I'm sharing this review to make people aware of this dr and his practise how he doesn't care about the patient....so you don't fall in what I fell through...and you don't have to suffer the way I did My story starts when I came having an issue with my ear, my breathing was slightly abnormal from time to time, I might have some difficulty very seldom...however after he was trying to diagnose my issue...he said that I have a deviated septum and this is the reson that clocks my sinus pockets which resultsin creating more issue like the one I'mhaving with my ear now...since he couldn'tdiagnose what is reallyhappening...and he recommended me to do the surgery to fix the deviated septum saying it's presence is the reason for me getting advanced diseases... At the time, I just believed whatever he said thinking that he really knows what he is saying and I said if that will prevent me having future problems and make my breathing much better then let's do it... The main issue here I didn't ask for X rays or pictures of his diagnosis... So remember if he ask you to do a surgery make sure to request an X-ray or pictures that shows the issues he is claiming that must be fixed Or even Request to have a video taken inside your nose to show the issue he talks about and how he wants to fix it... Beside all of that...after we did the surgery... The surgery didn't succeed... And I had much more problems with my breathing after the surgery...that I have never had before... I start to lose my breath if I try run for a short period of time...I start to have whistling sound from my nose...I had dry irritated nasal mucosa..I had more times my nose was clocked...and I had many many many times tgat I couldn't go to bed because I was not able to breath from my nose...and you can just imagine...the problems he caused So I start to go to different doctors to check what's going on cause I changed my insurance and his clinic doesn't accept my current new insurance... I was seen by other ent Drs and they mentioned that I still have a deviated septum...but there's another issue which was a hole inside the nasal septum...which for me was never existed before Meaning he didn't just not fixed the deviated septum..instead he caused a hole in the septum...and all the other doctors who saw me...they said if you were my patient, and I did that to you ..I wil take care of you and fix what I did... So I called his office...they said you need to pay for the visit even though he made that mistake...beside that they wanted me to pay cash because they didn't accept my current insurance...which didn't make any since because I'm coming back because of the damage and the pain that he caused to my nose...he must take care of the issue he caused without asking me to pay anything...but he refused And when I was about to sue him...he didn't care...because I had no evidence that proves the damage that he caused to my nose because I had no x-ray...no pictures or videos taken or any reports made describs how was my nose before the surgery... And even the drs who diagnosed me, didn't want to write down what they found as a medical malpractice from that dr...because they have no evidence of how was my nose and they didn't want this dr to be in trouble because of what they will say in the report...but they insist that he has to fix what he did... But he didn't care and he refused to see me unless I pay them for appointment which is over $250....just think about that...! He only cares about [ Money ] All the doctors I went to...they apologized to take my case, because they it requires a complicated surgery and not everydoctor is capableof doing it.... After alot of searching...suffering and pain that I have gone through...I was able to find an expert genuine dr who accepted my case, who really cares about his patients like his family... 0 stars/DO NOT RECOMMEND. When you go, make sure you can pay for your deductible or a several hundred dollar deposit. Why? Because they will not verify insurance and also not notify patients ahead of time if there is a problem. What they will do is they yell at patients until they break down and unnecessarily pay literally hundreds of dollars and leave the office in tears. How do I know? After being admitted urgently to HOAGs ER, I was referred to Dr. Chen. After attempting to schedule appointment a day after my admission, I called Dr. Chen's office. After getting the run around, I was told I would receive a call back that day. Never heard back, so I attempted to call the next day and despite my diagnosis being emergent and needing to be seen emergently, the staff were cavalier and did not show any sense of urgency. It is hard to put into words how much gratitude I have for Dr. Chen. I have never encountered a doctor more thorough, compassionate and effective as Dr. Chen has shown to be. I was at my wits ends with terrible congestion for months on end without relief. Prior to seeing Dr. Chen, I had already gone to numerous doctors and specialists to no avail. I was miserable and growing hopeless. Dr. Chen was so caring! He took the time to really listen to me, and was able to identify a sinus infection that no previous doctor had noticed, in addition to the other issues I was experiencing. He came up with a treatment plan and followed up on my care closely throughout the process. I was having some concerns and called his office. Unethical, greedy office, they asked for the office visit in full at the time of the visit, after I paid them in full , they never submitted a claim, months later when I called them they finally did, when my insurance company sent me the claim detail, I called the office to see what's the delay not sending my refund she denied receiving anything from my insurance company. I told Kimberly I can email the claim detail to her, she said they don't do emails, she was not interested in claim detail from my insurance company. Unethical and deceitful doctors office, avoid!. My wife visited and they lied to her by telling her that they accepted her insurance, however they refused to tell her they are an out of network doctor. She paid upon services expecting that she would be refunded for her non patient portion of the bill and they told me she wont be refunded. What a way to go ripping patients off... I work hard for my money and for me to be ripped off in such a dirty way is very upsetting. I hope all of you read this and take your business elsewhere. But they will get Karma. Dr Chen is an incredible doctor. He is smart, knowledgeable, professional, caring and has a wonderful bedside manner. He is patient centered and does what is necessary to address his patient's medical problems. He is thorough and takes time to explain information in an easy to understand manner. He welcomes questions and dialogue. I was suffering from ongoing chronic sinus infections and I'm happy to say that Dr. Chen got to the root of the cause, and I have not had a sinus infection since he performed my surgery three years ago. I'm not sure why there are quite a number of negative comments. I can understand a little by the way some are written, but I have to admit that it made me pause. I was being referred by my internist who should know who's great and who's not and who I respect highly, so I called to make an appt. Yes they asked if I had insurance and took some normal info, then the front desk went out of her way to get me in earlier than the first opening a week later. She got me scheduled the next day, esp as I was being referred by another doctor, and THEN she called me 2 hours later with a cancelation and said they would take me that afternoon. Pretty great. I met Dr Chen and he has an impressive schooling and I liked him. He was open, knowledgeable and listened, and he made sure I was comfortable with all the answers before I left. So read wisely when you read reviews. And read between the lines. Always ask your general doctor too, as that's the person you trust and they want you to go to the best. read more

Dr. Chen is AMAZING!! He is a caring and compassionate doctor. He's been my ENT physician since 2007. In January 2013, Dr. Chen operated on my nasal passages. His treatment was nothing short of miraculous. After having continuing sinus infections for years, I now have been infection-free since the surgery. I would recommend Dr. Chen without reservation. I'm prompted to write this review as I am still dealing with issues that I came to Dr. Chen for in 2010. I had deviated septum surgery to cure my chronic sore throats and chronic strep throat (thought getting my tonsils out was more logical) but this was his solution, I had the surgery. The horrible staff changed my surgery location "to get me in sooner" and failed to mention the new location would be out of pocket for everything! So, my insurance didn't cover the surgery since the location changed. My Mom and I both called and disputed repeatedly since they did not tell us anything about the billing change but his staff (relatives) yelled at us, hung up on us, interrupted, and were beyond rude. Worst experience and customer service ever. I still have a deviated septum and the meds he put me on post surgery were too strong and caused internal bleeding and a (covered) hospital stay. Another ENT I saw said he had removed my turbinates vs. the reduction. The ENT said this was an extremely outdated way of doing things and good ENT's do not do that these days. The removal is why I have frequent bloody noses caused from it being too dry. Go anywhere else and don't bother complaining about his staff. I'm unclear of the relationship but the rude person I dealt with turned out to be a relative which is why she can yell and hang up on patients and still have a job. read more

Dr. Chen appears to be a competent physician, but in my 4 visits for an ear infection, I had to wait more than 50 minutes each time. Others would come subsequent to my arrival, and be treated before me. Every time! Appears he overbooks, to make sure he never has a minute of down time, and appears to me he discriminates against medicare patients. Insisted on charging me a $25 fee for a missed appt. (my fault) - I refused to pay, taking into consideration shabby way he made me wait every time. Orange County has a plethora of competent physicians in many specialties, many without an "attitude," in my opinion. But if a patient considers his time to be a non-factor, Dr. Chen may be a good choice. But not for me...... read more

I saw Dr. Chen couple of months ago for my snoring concerns. My wife had pushed me to get it treated for the longest time. Due to financial constraints and also personal reasons, I waited. Anyways, long story short, my wife was very happy with the results I got from the procedure. Not gonna say that I am cured, understandably because medicine is not an exact science. After sitting in the waiting room 20 minutes and listening to a patient before be told that she had a 40 minute longer wait, I asked how long my wait was. She said about an hour. I'd already been there over 15 minutes. I told her to cancel me out. I was not waiting another hour. It seems they don't know how to schedule. The first time I saw this dr he ordered an audiology test for my vertigo. I knew I didn't have a hearing problem and the test so indicated. I was having severe migraines and was referred to a specialist. I chose to visit Dr. Dasun Chen, M.D. to see if my sinuses were the issue. The visit was fine, I was able to get an appointment right away and when I visited with him, he was cordial enough. He then proceeded to look up my nose with a scope, which I figured was routine. Yet when I received the bill a month later, I was charged for "surgery!" I feel the doctor should have notified me that this procedure was not routine. It was an outrageous amount and when I contacted the office telling them I was uncomfortable paying for the procedure, they didn't call me back for months. Every time I called, the office was either closed or I left a voicemail and NO ONE got back to me. This was in June. Finally, in August, I received a notice in the mail that my bill would be sent to collections. I was furious! I called the office and again left a voicemail and no one called me back. I finally went into the office and the billing staff was unavailable. I got a call the very next day from the billing department and the woman I spoke with, Anne, was EXTREMELY RUDE! She was condescending, interrupted me multiple times, was short with me and told me that either I could pay the bill or it would go to collections. I couldn't believe how rude she was! This was the worst customer service I have ever received. Their business would not be a business if they didn't have customers and they need to think twice about how they treat people. Highly skilled ENT diagnostician and surgeon. He helped me to overcome a chronic cough through proper diagnosis and treatment (when other doctors could not) and performed a flawless tonsillectomy on my teenage daughter. He is a consummate professional. His office staff are not what you would call "friendly," but they are proficient. You don't go to Dr. Chen because of his bedside manner (which is somewhat "clinical"). You go to him because of his skill and expertise in making you well. I highly recommend him. read more

Dr. Dasun is no good. Went in to see him about two years ago because i suffered from deviated septum. i could't breath and it would give me bad anxiety so my general doctor recomended him because he was a "specialist". Dr. Dasun assured me i would be able to breath and sleep like a baby. I was terrified of being put to sleep but i couldnt take the anxiety and not being able to breath so i went ahead and had the surgery. After two months i still wasn't able to breath. I called to schedule an app because i wanted Dr. Dasun to explain why the surgery didnt work (the receptionist was extreamly rude by the way!). His anwser for me not being able to breath was " you actually need cosmetic surgery because your nostrils are too small".. what!?! No, the reason why i cant breath is because he didnt do a good job! my septum still looks like a pretzel and my anxiety is horrible! Also, he's not cheap!! read more

I saw Dr. Chen for a period of 3 years. I suffered from chronic sinus infections. He was only interested in doing surgery. At the time my job required weekly roundtrip coast to coast flights which aggravated my sinuses and I could not have surgery until the end of the year. He refused to treat my infections, would not prescribe meds for my infections unless I came in for an appointment. I was never able to get an appointment when I was in town and finally ended up seeing another physician at my job location. At the end of the year I had the surgery. Must admit he is top notch surgeon, but now two years later I continue to have sinus infections and have found that they are triggered by allergies and have finally found a physician that is treating the cause and have found relief. I would not recommend Dr. Chen, he may be an excellent surgeon, but surgery isn't always the answer. He is very arrogant, will not return or answer phone calls and his office staff had continuous turnover during this time. The billing department doesn't know what they are doing and won't return your phone calls. After more than 4 phone calls, all unreturned, I was finally reduced to paying more than my insurance carrier said I owed just to stop the overdue billing and to protect my credit. After surgery, I was also told I needed to buy a dental cleaning machine with a sinus attachment for $100. I found the same machine at Wal-Mart for $40. I mentioned this to Dr. Chen and he didn't have a response. read more

I saw Dr. Chen in his office about 5 months ago for sinusitis. All the previous specialists who I had seen in the past had told me that surgery was really the only option for me because of my long-standing problem with recurring sinusitis. At that time, I didn't really want to resort to surgery because of my high deductible. So under the recommendation of my primary care physician, I decided to book a visit with Dr. Chen. Right off the bat, I have to say that I have never seen a doctor spend more time with me than Dr. Chen did on my first visit. He thoroughly answered all my questions and my concerns about surgery. In the end, he offered me some options and alternatives other than surgery. Even though I still have the occasional sniffles now and then, I feel so much better now than before my visit with Dr. Chen. I know I will probably need surgery in the future for my chronic problem, but at least I know that I have a doctor who cares. read more
