I selected Dave's Appliances because of their reviews on yelp. Unfortunately I was disappointed in their office communication. Setting up and scheduling the estimate was easy. Availability was same or next day. Their service call of $130 was slightly lower than other companies quoted. The rental property dishwasher was not draining, and we were able to prioritize getting the appointment asap. The arrangement discussed when scheduling was the tenant would be present, and to provide the estimate to and call the owner for authorization of any work that might be needed for the repair. A credit card was given in advance for the payment. They texted me and the tenant to confirm the service window for the estimate. So far so good. On the day of the appointment unfortunately there was no phone call made regarding the estimate. Instead it was texted without further discussion and unclear if the work was completed for additional parts and labor quoted at $436! After multiple phone calls and text messages, the front office clarified that the work had not been completed, only the estimate provided. The service technician had already left the property which was fortunate because the estimate of parts and labor for the repair exceeded the cost of a new replacement dishwasher. I wish the communication by the technician and office would have been clearer, saving some unnecessary concern and back and forth communication about the work needed for the repair. It was unclear if the work was performed without authorization. If the work were authorized, the technician had already left the job site after providing the estimate and would need to be rescheduled to return for the repair on another day. Apparently they didn't have parts on hand to replace the drain pump and hose which seems strange for what is, I imagine, a common problem. I likely won't use this company again should appliance repairs be needed in Davis due to the unclear communications. read more

Our dishwasher wasn't cleaning the dishes so we called Dave's Appliance and were able to make a same-day appointment. He ran tests on the machine and gave some options. We appreciated his expertise and honesty. In the end, we decided it would be better to get a new machine - too much was going wrong with our machine with the motor and logic board. Dryer wasn't drying clothes thoroughly, at any temperature. I called Dave's and got an appointment the next day. He gave me a heads-up when he was on the way and came on time. After running tests, he confirmed that the heating was inconsistent, from nothing at all to full heat, but never stayed there. He determined that the problem was either the breaker, the busbar, or the outlet. When these are problems, there is a control issue as well. Dave looked up the control part we needed and saw that it was discontinued, and the alternate was out of stock indefinitely. After talking about the problem, I said "I think we should get a new dryer," and he said, "That's what I'd do." He then recommended a dryer that he himself uses, looked it up and gave me the name and model number. He did all this in a little over an hour. Dave went above and beyond in the service he gave me. He's very experienced and knowledgeable, and friendly, and his prices are reasonable. When the next appliance needs attention, I will call Dave. read more

Dave came by to help us with an issue with our bottom freezer. He was incredibly kind, helpful, and reasonably priced. He taught me about how best to clean and care for my appliance, and I appreciate that he took the time to do that. We talked about the possibility of the issue not resolving itself right away and had a plan for next steps that I was comfortable with. When I needed help again a few weeks later, he came right away as a follow-up call. Our LG Thinq dryer would squeak every once in a while. We wanted to make sure it wasn't a belt issue. I called over the weekend and Dave showed up within the appointment window. He was quick and efficient - very professional with doing diagnostics and checking the moving parts of the dryer on the cool and heat settings. The dryer didn't squeak at all. Dave said no parts were needed and no real maintenance needed to be done. He said to call him if it acted up again (be sure it was for a consecutive number of days) and he'd come right quick to check it out. Dave came out the next day we called to fix our broken 2 year old LG washer. He arrived late and didn't exactly diagnose the problem but instead offered to replace 2 parts because he wasn't sure which was the problem. He would have to order both parts and the bill would be over $500 to ensure the problem was fixed. I did t feel good about it so I thanked him and was charged $130 for the consultation with nothing fixed. Next day another company came out, tested and verified that the door latch was the problem and scheduled to fix it next day once they got the part and the cost of the consult would go towards the labor. Fair right? My washer is fixed now, for less than $300. read more

Amazing! Dave got more done on my fridge in 3 hours than his competition did in 3 weeks. It took me 3 weeks to book an appointment with another company - let's call them "flake" (not their real name). When it turned out I needed to reschedule, they were....less then helpful.... and it would have taken another 3 weeks. Meanwhile, my fridge was freezing my food. I found Dave, spoke to someone in seconds and he came out THE SAME DAY. In 3 hours, found the problem, found the parts, ordered them and it was cheaper than the initial visit would have been with "flake". I would never use anyone other than Dave. My Samsung refrigerator had yet another problem--this time with the left door not closing properly. A plastic piece had broken. Dave was able to do a quick fix with a spring which we hope will last up to a year. He said I could replace the entire moveable part along the vertical side of the door, but it would be $300 and my refrigerator is 11 years old. Since he found that the insulation was breaking down as shown by water under the drawers and freezing in the back, he told me not to spend the money. Well worth the cost of the visit. read more

The refrigerator portion of our frig. quit working yesterday in 100+ degree heat- inside door temp showed 68 degrees. Freezer portion was staying cold as it should. Called store where we bought the frig but they no longer do service & gave me several recommendations. I called Dave's Appliance - the lady who answered told that service person couldn't come out until today. Dave just left our home a little while ago. I requested service on my refrigerator via Dave's website on Sunday, and received confirmation and a timeslot the next day (Monday). Dave called Monday morning to ask if he could come over early (of course!). Dave explained everything he was doing and finding out about my refrigerator, which turned out to have two problems: a failing condenser and faulty insulation in the rear wall (apparently a common problem with Samsung refrigerators). Unfortunately, my refrigerator is out of warranty, so I have bought a new one - which I did with confidence that my current fridge cannot be fixed. I highly recommend Dave. read more
