This place is all the craze over tiktok and I'm so happy they opened up a spot in the city. Their other location is in Naperville - too far. I haven't had chicken this good in a long long time. I think this place is better than Budlong if we're being honest. Staff was so kind - they greet everyone coming in the door by yelling, "Welcome to Dave's!" #3: Portions are HUGE! They only have 3 options so I opted for the one with one slider and one tender and it was way more than plenty. First I want to talk about their seasoning. Probably the best seasoning I've ever had on fried chicken. It's so flavorful like I can't even describe it, it's so good. I got the medium which was just the right amount of spicy for me! The tender is huge in itself! I ended up eating the tender first for one meal then ate the slider when I got home. The fries were so good too - I believe they sprinkle their chicken seasoning on the fries too! Their sauce - one of the best I've had in a while and they aren't skimpy with it either!!! Wanted to try it so made the 40-minute trek up north today. Didn't realize it was a dry rub-- was expecting a hot sauce. Not really my cup of tea. Makes me think I'm eating chalk. Fries get zero stars. If they had salt and mustard they could've gotten a bump to a star or two, but without it just dry, flavorless, mediocrity. The slider was the best part because the slaw and sauce and pickles helped balance the dry, powdery rub. The tenders are just dry. I also got a slushy thing which was awful. The "ice cream" was pure liquid-- I assume the machine was not working, but they didn't want to sound like a McDonald's so they made the slush thing anyway. With ice cream it may have been good; with basically semi-thick milk it was just gross. Dave's is BY FAR the best chicken fast casual/food restaurant chain in Chicago! I love the flavors of all the items on the menu. The chicken is incredible as well as the fries. This was a fun one! We stopped here for a quick dinner after hearing that they serve great chicken finger sliders. Had to try them. The place looks different. It felt like it was more geared to highschoolers and kids. That's not to say that it wasn't nice and clean. When I saw that Dave's Hot Chicken had just opened a Chicago location, I was so excited to finally try it, as I had heard about it my whole life. However, it saddens me to say that my expectations were quickly dashed upon my first bite. I've tried a lot of hot chicken in my life, so I think I know what I'm talking about when I saw Dave's Hot Chicken is not at the top of the list by a long shot. I'll start off by saying I got takeout, and takeout is never as good as dining in, so I'm sure that played a role in the averageness of the meal. While the chicken itself was not bad and had a good heat to it along with tasty spices, the sauce is where it all went wrong. Something about the sauce was just not sealing the deal for me. Maybe it was because it was too Dijon mustard-y? I can't put my finger on it, but it wasn't for me. And the thing about hot chicken is you can't fully enjoy it without an amazing sauce, so I had to knock off major points for that. The fries were good, but again, without the sauce, just eh. A great chicken spot to hit up with friends! I say with friends, because, first off, the serving sizes here are huge! When you first glance at the menu, there looks to only be 3 meal options. Dave's #1 comes with two tenders, Dave's #2 comes with two chicken sliders, and Dave's #3 comes with a tender and a slider. I ordered Dave's #2, but these were definitely more like full-on chicken sandwiches than sliders. The serving sizes here are huge and definitely seem meant to be shared with at least two people. I was able to finish one of the sliders and had to take the rest to go. They have a pile of to-go boxes sitting on the counter, which made things easy. The chicken sliders are super good! It came with a spicy mayo sauce and pickles on the side. You can also choose your spice levels for the chicken as well. The buns were super buttery as well. The fries that came with it were generously seasonsed and crispy. My meal was in total $19 which is more than I expected from a fast-casual restaurant. But I easily had two meals worth of food, so I think it is worth the cost. The service at Dave's was great as well! Everyone was extremely friendly and our food came out pretty quickly. I wasn't really impressed with food or service. I placed an order online and the email said to go to the pickup area and let them know I was here. So I got there a couple minutes after the "ASAP" time I was given and the place was packed. No idea where to go; people were just standing around, and some were in a order line. I asked some other customers if they were picking up since I could see some people clearly placing orders at a register. When I went to what was ostensibly the pickup area, after asking a couple guys who were standing around if they were in like or anything, the staff member standing at the counter didn't pay attention to me until I said I was there for a pickup order. She said she thought mine was one of the ones coming up. Mine did come up, so luckily it hadn't been just sitting there getting cold. The guy who I can only assume was the MoD apologized and said that they had a bunch of orders come in all at the same time. (My order was ready about 15 minutes later than it had said it would be.) I was not so bothered by the fact that it took longer than expected, but that it was so disorganized. There was no line or sign for pickup vs. ordering there, so just a bunch of people standing around. There isn't a lot of space in there, so there wasn't a lot of space for people to order, sit, wait, etc. The confirmation email says that your will be ready at whatever time (in my case it was 10 minutes), but they have no way of checking on your order status--which in a pandemic and with a small restaurant alone would make sense, but even without those it would be really useful. I'd much rather have waited an extra 15 minutes in my car and pop in when it was done than have no clue when my order would be done so just have to wait. I know this isn't the fault of the employee at this restaurant, but I hope their corporate overlords will make some changes to the pickup process. Oh, and one of the staff was not wearing their mask properly. This was the person who was putting the orders into bags and stuff. It was far under his nose and at times barely over his upper lip. I mean come on, it's been nearly two years... there's no reason for anyone not to know how to wear a mask at this point, and to be able to do it properly. At least he didn't adjust it whilst messing with people's food, but... that's a pretty low bar. The food was ok. I got one medium and one hot tender, and the combo came with fries, which were pretty good too. The hot water too hot for me. I was able to eat a couple bites without issue, but after that it was a bit harder and I wasn't able to eat the whole one (that's ok; they were large). The medium was more palatable. I was surprised because I did read a few reviews, which is why I got one of each heat level, but I get Chinese and Thai food spicy, I add heat to Mexican food and toss lots of crushed red pepper into my pasta aglio e olio... but the "hot" level was beyond me. I am very glad they allow you to have multiple heat levels (in fact, you must specify for each when ordering). I actually really liked my chicken there. I got the original hot tenders that were excellent and spicy enough. The chicken was very crunchy and flavorful as well. I have had Hot Chicken like this before and this was the real deal. The only downside is that the menu was a little confusing/misleading to me. I know that sounds a bit counter intuitive, but your real choices are either two tenders or two sandwiches (or one of each). They will sell you an additional tender or sandwich, but they were on the expensive side. Knowing there were only two, I ordered an extra tender. With my drink and all, it came out to about $20 for one person. That is alot for a fast food joint. Also, two tenders is WAY enough as I ended up taking that extra one home. If I would offer any suggestions, make sure the customers are aware with the size of the tenders. I also make this suggestion because the service there was actually pretty good! Hopefully those higher costs are used to treat those workers well. I have a special place in my heart for good customer service and this was some of the best I have seen in a fast food place! All in all, this place was pretty good. I would say its like an upscale fast food place. Food was excellent, but the prices are a little high for this kind of place. My friends were dying to come to this place ever since they heard about it so I decided to try it out with them and my parents. So first off, the lady up front was really nice and friendly. She gave me a waiver when I ordered the reaper which was a lil scary haha. So I tried the mild chicken, pretty good. Nicely spiced, tender and juicy and not at all spicy so it was pretty decent. The fries I think was my favorite part honestly haha. I've had a lot of French fries in my life but these were amazing. I'd heard a lot of great thing from friends about Dave's Hot Chicken and was excited to try it out. I got there and it was super busy, but the service was still quick and friendly and I had my food in about five minutes. I got the #3, a slider and a tender with fries. For the slider I got the Reaper spice level and I went with Extra Hot on the tender. Both were great. I'm not usually a fan of slaw on sandwiches but their worked really well. The pickles and sauce were also really good. Spice level. I love spicy foods and typically the hottest wing sauce at wing places, vindaloo at Indian restaurants, and so on. As long as it tastes good I want the food to melt my face off. This had a good spice level and tasted great. I've had hotter but for most this is probably a very intense level of spice.
