We got wagyu and truffle soup dumplings and some pan fried dumplings and they were so delicious. We devoured them so quickly the wagyu barely had time to marinate in our mouths. The little flavor twist that often accompanies truffles paved the way for the next bite, flowering our mouths with the taste of luxury. Would definitely recommend QXY dumplings
I'm a little bit shocked by how well this place is received. The dumplings were okay, but the prices are very expensive for dumplings. For what you get its not worth it. I was also the only Asian person in the restaurant, which definitely made me wonder about the clientele they are catering to. Maybe that's not necessarily a bad thing, but it did make me question whether this was really the place to go for authentic dumplings. One thing that really surprised me was the way the dumplings were served. Usually, when you order dumplings, the setting should include a plate, a bowl, a spoon, and chopsticks. This place only gave us a plate and chopsticks. A spoon is especially helpful with dumplings because when you bite into one, all that delicious juice can run out. You can catch it in the spoon and drink the soup. It's such a basic thing, and I was surprised it wasn't provided. Overall, the dumplings were okay, service was wonderful but for the price, they were not amazing. They were just basic dumplings.
Spent an evening in china town and decided on this place for dinner! I wanted dumplings and this spot delivered. Service was welcoming and friendly. I tried the cucumber salad, lamb & coriander dumplings, and the pork and cabbage dumplings. Everything was delicious but the highlight was definitely the lamb ones. So flavorful, juicy and tender.
Let me tell you folks - there is no other place you should go for dumplings in Chicago. I've had plenty d dumplings in so many towns. Nobody beats this place for an exquisite dumpling experience. You can see my other comments if you need to. Or, you can just go here and have dumplings experience of your life.
The space is casual with a modern feel. Tables are touching together, but there are a few more solo ones too. 8/10. You can tell the dumplings are handmade. The wrappers weren't too thin, had a great meat-to-wrapper ratio, and the lamb & coriander filling was delicious. Dip them in soy sauce, vinegar, and chili oil for the perfect bite. 7.5/10. One of the best dumplings I've had. The Grilled Lamb Kebab (6/10) had good flavor, but the meat was a little firm and came out only warm instead of hot. Definitely come for the dumplings.
Unfortunately, was just a little less impressed this time around with my visit. Waited a bit over an hour after joining the waitlist and honestly had a great time wandering around Chinatown. Be prepared to sit shoulder to shoulder with folks or even share a table if you have a small party. The good: service was just as prompt as I remembered and the dumplings were still super juiced up once you bit into them. The bad: the dumplings skin were way thicker this second time around and when the goal is to bite into a juicy dumpling, I was really disappointed to find that the pan fried ones we got were 1. burnt and 2. had been torn when they were plated.
The food is 5 stars! The wagyu and truffle dumplings were my absolute favorite dumplings that I've ever had anywhere. They were rich and delicious. The wrapper of both sets of dumplings was thin and tender. I had a special of crab roe and kurobuta pork dumpling. This was good, it was delicate and tasteful but didn't give me as much flavor as I hoped for. I also had the appetizer braised beef in brown sauce. The sauce was amazing and the beef was very tender. The homemade chili sauce was good with nice flavor layers. Here's why I knocked it down a star. I'm pretty sure we were over charged. We paid 130$ for 2 dumplings (one was 30$ one was ?, braised beef that was around $15 and tea which was $14. I cannot imagine the dumplings without a price was 60$. Unfortunately I realized this too late and did not get a receipt. There was also an incident involving one of the workers and someone who was allowed in to use the restroom. The worker didn't know the person was allowed in and chased out of the restaurant while filming. There was a lot of yelling which ruined the atmosphere. I also had a hard time checking in online for a table and had to end up going inside.
Best dumplings we've ever had. Will spoil steamed dumplings everywhere else you go. Nothing will measure up. Lamb & Coriander Soup Dumplings!!!
When I saw the very high ratings for QXY ... I was very excited & had to try them out for myself. I hate to report, it was all hype in the end for me. WAIT TIME: about 15 minutes... not bad FOOD: overpriced, for the food quality. SERVICE: Not great. I asked for a spoon since the dumplings were juicy. Waited over 10 minutes while my dumplings were getting cold. Saw the same waiter chatting with his coworker. Ended up asking another person for a spoon. He returned with the spoon, but approached the table tapping the round part of the spoon to his palms like he was playing an instrument. I guess it didn't occur to him that's where my mouth would be if I ended up using the spoon (which I didn't) Maybe it was an off day for them? Overall my experience was meh & I'm not in a hurry to return with so many other options in the area.
As someone who was previously only a "casual" consumer of dumplings, I truly had no idea what I was missing. My eyes are officially opened. We stopped here on a whim when coming to Chicago for the DJO concert (the band with frontman Joe Keery, best known as Steve Harrington from the hit Netflix series Stranfer Things). When we saw the line forming, we knew we were in for a treat! From the energetic ambiance to the server from China who instructed us how he prefers to make his own sauce out of soy sauce, vinegar, and chili oil (it was FANTASTIC). Our group tried four varieties of dumplings: wagyu beef with onion steamed, pork and cabbage steamed, beef and coriander fried, and pork and pickled cabbage fried. They were all fantastic, but the crispy edges on the fried dumplings were just divine. In the words of DJO, "...and when I'm back in Chicago, I eat QXY." Or something like that, right?
My daughter found this place, picked it for our Chinatown afternoon, and I will spend the rest of my life thanking her for it. Her favorite food is dumplings and she wanted to find the best in Chinatown for her first visit. She did not miss. She absolutely did not miss. We ordered the Kurobuta Pork and Cabbage steamed and the Chicken and Cabbage fried. Both handmade fresh to order, both absolutely mind blowing. The pork dumplings were the unanimous favorite at our table. Rich, deeply flavored, with a creamy salty umami broth tucked inside each one that hits you the moment you bite through. The wrapper had the perfect chew, substantial but delicate, exactly what a great dumpling wrapper should be. The chicken and cabbage fried dumplings were equally impressive. Plump, flavorful, crisped beautifully without a trace of greasiness. We devoured every single one and considered ordering more. We should have ordered more. The space is small, bright, and clean with a mix of community tables and smaller tables if sharing space with strangers is not your thing. The plateware showed genuine attention to detail and the whole environment felt like a sincere window into the culture rather than a performance of it. Service was warm, friendly, and top notch. Pricing is beyond reasonable for the quality of what lands on your table. This is what a dumpling is supposed to be. My daughter found a gem on her first trip to Chinatown and now we have a forever spot.
First time in Chicago and had to go to Chinatown for dumplings! My girlfriend and I put ourselves on the waitlist around 1:30PM on a Sat, ended up being a 75 min wait. We ordered the cucumber salad, lamb & coriander dumplings steamed, and the wagyu & coriander dumplings fried. Everything was delicious! The skin was thin and filling was flavorful. I was a bit confused why they don't give you spoons since there's so much juice inside the dumpling. Once you bite into it, all the juice spills out. Overall, we enjoyed our meal. Staff was friendly and efficient. Would recommend if you're in the mood for some dumplings!
Came to QXY because people had been raving about it - despite being on the waitlist for about an hour on the weekend, we eventually did not regret the afternoon wait If theres one thing this place does right, its dumplings! Theyre cooked well, soft tender and juicy when steamed, nice and crispy when pan fried. I appreciated the different types of fillings available and you could tell they were freshly made. Would recommend to fill your dumplings craving if youre willing to wait a bit!

we came around 8:40p on a Sunday night and the wait was only about 20 min I was very excited to try this spot because I saw all the raving reviews but I would say only about half of the dishes I would order again we ordered: -- lamb skewers: 10/10 so flavorful and tender, I don't usually like lamb because it can taste gamey but this didn't at all -- cucumber salad: would order again - loved the texture -- crab roe steamed: 10/10 would order again, my bf and I both agreed it was the best dumpling flavor -- wagyu and truffle steamed: I honestly found the truffle overpowering in flavor, wouldn't get again -- lamb and dill steamed: the dill flavor was too strong, wouldn't get again we also ordered the osmanthus tea which had a light floral taste but it didn't standout to me also I will note, if I came back, I would come in the morning or afternoon - I think by the time we sat down, the staff was tired because several soup dumplings weren't wrapped tightly so the soup had spilled out before it got to our table I will say I agree with the comments about the prices here being high - it was $160 before tip because the wagyu truffle dumplings and crab roe dumplings were both market rate ($30-$35 each for 12 dumplings) I'm happy I got to try this spot because the crab roe was the best soup dumplings I've ever had but I think I will be more selective with what I order next time read more

First time visiting this place and I was so stunned with how popular it was! Super clean dining area. We came super early and were seated at the back, so we could see them assemble to dumplings! Food was juicy and filling. Food and service were super fast, which I expected. Seats fill up quick so I recommend planning accordingly. read more
A must-try dumpling spot! Juicy, flavorful, and absolutely worth the hype ! you truly can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The shaved pig ears were a standout, with a satisfying spicy kick and a unique, delicate texture. The cucumber salad was light yet packed with flavor, the perfect contrast. And the dumplings? Some of the best I've ever had. Top it all off with great service by Andres , and this place is a no-brainer. Highly recommend! read more
It's on every dining recommendation list in Chicago. We were eager to try it out. There was a waiting line and diners were everywhere. We were told to wait for more than 30 minutes for a table. We decided to order a carry out instead. It was so delicious and we went back the next day before it opened. We got a table right away! They were the best soup dumplings! Delicious! read more
Put our name in around 1 on a Saturday and got in about an hour later. Tried three different dumplings. Steamed and pan-fried were both good. Favorite was lamb & dill, mostly because it was something different and it was really good. Next would be the beef & onion, also really good and beefy. Shrimp, pork, & leek tasted pretty similar to any other dumplings I've had before. Overall, dumplings were definitely good, especially the house made wrappers, but still seemed a little bit overpriced. read more
Located right outside of the Chinatown gates and next to the cta redline, QXY Dumplings is some of the best I've ever had. They were full immediately after opening at 11:30am on a Sunday so expect a wait if you're not right on time or early. Their skin is thinner than I usually see, so their filling doesn't have to be super packed to even out the dough ratio. The chili oil and soup are 100% on point. Overate and overstuffed myself. I had seen this place widely recommended on social media so I knew I had to add it to my list when I visited Chicago. Besides the incredibly long wait to be seated (they don't take reservations and we went on a Friday night) and the tightness of their space (the tables were a little crammed together), they definitely live up to the hype food-wise! Their Grilled Lamb Kebab and Wagyu beef and Onion dumplings (fried and steamed) were rich in flavor. Would definitely recommend :) read more

The service was incredible, extremely fast table turnover, and the food came out very quickly. The dumplings were fantastic. I got the pork and cabbage, as well as the shrimp, pork and leek. The kimchi was good, but I would've preferred it to be more spicy. That's just a personal preference though. read more
I love QXY! If you go, there will be a wait and if it is cold outside, you will be crammed like a sardine in the waiting area... is it worth it? Yes, yes it is. The dumplings are amazing. The service is great. The past two times we have dined there, we have had the nicest servers! Run, don't walk to Chinatown and go to QXY! read more
I've moved out of Chicago but QXY remains one of my few must eats spots when I come back! On a recent trip I came with a couple of friends for a late lunch on a Saturday and ended up waiting about 1 hr until 3pm to eat. Trust me though, it's worth it! We got the wood ear mushroom salad to share and then for dumplings, the pork & cabbage, pork & leek, and lamb & coriander dumplings to share - all steamed. The dumplings are so juicy and full of rich, decadent soup! And the dumplings skin is really thin and light, especially if you get them steamed. I haven't had such great juicy dumplings that are not xiao long bao in the states. QXY dumplings is a must stop for me when I come back to Chicago now and it's well worth the wait! I'll definitely need to come back and try some of the more unique fillings as well (the scallop, lotus root & pork sounds amazing). read more
This is an absolute gem of a place! The staff make you feel welcome as soon as they greet you at the door. The place is so beautiful inside, it's comfortable, and most of all it's clean! For starters, the cucumber salad was really delicious, and the lamb kebabs were seasoned and cooked to perfection. However, the star of the show was of course the dumplings! I don't think you could order incorrectly here. Everything on the menu looks like it would be a 5 star dish. Highly recommend! read more

Crazy popular spot. 30 minutes wait in a Sunday night! It's popular and delicious that's why. Great dumplings, pig ears, and kim chi. For the pork and cabbage steamed and fried. Both were excellent. Needed 24 dumplings and 2 appetizers to get full. read more
QXY Dumplings was really good! We got the fried lamb and coriander dumplings and they were super solid, crispy, flavorful, and really tasty. But honestly the grilled lamb skewers were the star for me. They were insanely good. Like just thinking about the flavor makes my mouth water. They had the perfect bbq flavor, spicy, smoky, and packed with cumin. I liked them even more than the dumplings. Service was friendly and the place had a bright, lively vibe. When you get there, you can add yourself to the waitlist on the iPad in the restaurant. It took us about 30 minutes for a party of 2, so we just walked around Chinatown and got a quick snack while we waited. Next time I'd probably try different dumplings, but I'd definitely get the lamb skewers again. Everyone should get their own serving of the lamb skewers because they're just so good you won't wanna split them. read more

My first time in Chicago! My friend who eats Halal took me here and everything was SO good. We got the cucumber salad, lamb skewers, lamb+coriander dumplings, pork-shrimp-leek dumplings. I'm normally not a lamb eater because of the gamey taste. I was so pleasantly surprised bc I could not smell nor taste that at all in the lamb dumplings or the skewers, just the nuttiness of lamb. We ordered a second round of lamb skewers and tried the pan fried lamb+coriander too and were bursting at the seams Personally we preferred the steamed dumplings over fried. One of my must haves when in Chicago - They know what they're doing in here!!! Sheesh. This place is BUSY. I'm talking line out the door, waiting area full, dining room full. However, there's good news. The tables turn extremely fast. So you should never really be waiting over 45-50 minutes if you don't have a large party (over 4). They have a really small check-in area where the host stand is, but they have the awesome Yelp self check-in stand that makes putting your name on the wait-list extremely easy. Now the food: Amazing. Quite simply the best dumplings I have ever had. The dumplings are being handmade in the kitchen, where you can actively see them rolling the dough. Each order of dumplings comes with 12, and you cannot mix and match. Although, you used to be able to. They have steamed or fried - BOTH ARE AMAZING! Since you can only order one flavor per order, it is very common to order more. The truffle and wagyu beef is probably my favorite with the wagyu beef and onion coming in a close second. The lamb skewers and cucumber bites are a great app for the table. This place is also BYOB - huge plus! Beer or wine only. read more

Picked up takeout on a rainy day on a recent visit to Chinatown! I ordered one set of Pork, Scallop, and Leek Dumplings and was surprised to see them packaged one by one in a plastic tray, in a custom box. At first I thought it was a bit over the top, but as I started to eat them, I realized why they had to be packaged that way. The dumplings are juicy, delicate, and soft, wrapped in a thin wrapper. I've never had a restaurant dumpling quite like it. These are pricey, but quality and delicious. Each dumpling had a small scallop inside, and wasn't lacking in flavor or texture of each promised ingredient. I'm extremely happy with my pick, but look forward to trying other fillings too! read more

Qing Xiang Yuan Dumplings is absolutely worth the drive from Naperville. Every single bite was delicious, and it's one of those places where you immediately start planning your next visit before you've even finished your meal. The dumplings were outstanding--fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Everything we ordered was excellent, and it's easy to see why this place has such a loyal following. In fact, I even got a parking ticket while I was there... and honestly? I wasn't even mad. The dumplings were that good. Consider it the most expensive side dish I've ever ordered. If you're anywhere near Chicago and love dumplings, make the trip. It's absolutely worth it. read more

Hands down my favvvvvvorite dumpling spot! The steamed dumplings are always bursting with flavor. The staff is always efficient and polite, and the inside is small but cozy. Highly recommend trying the skewers as an appetizer. So flavorful. read more

Is this place open? I went there at noon and it was closed
We are closed for the renovation from October 1st to October 10th. And we will reopened at 11:30am on 11th.
Do they accept reservations?
Yes, online reservations only from qxydumplings.com. If you can not find any availabilities at your ideal time, that means we have fully booked at that moment but we still take walkin at the same time
Any vegan dumplings? I saw the mushroom and squash one listed, but not sure if they use egg or milk in the dough, or if there is meat, stock or fish oil used on those? Basically, looking for any vegan options here, but especially vegan dumplings. :)
Hello!! The dumplings would contain very tiny amount of egg because it's used to seal the dumpling wrapping. For dumplings that are boiled, vegetarian and meat dumplings are probably boiled in the same pot.
