Dave's hot chicken has been the talk of the town for quite some time and I knew that I had to go check it out! We went in on a Friday night and the place was packed! Their menu is quite simple - you can get sliders, tenders, fries, Mac n cheese, shakes, and a few other items! We got the Dave's #2 which comes with 2 sliders and some fries with an extra tender on the side. Their chicken comes in different spice levels - we got the medium but I would totally get the hot next time! The meat is cooked to perfection - crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The chicken is coated perfectly with seasoning and is beyond filling. The sliders also have pickles, sauce, and coleslaw inside making it the perfect bite every time! I think this might be one of the chicken sandwiches that I've EVER had! The Dave's sauce on the side is the perfect dip for both the chicken and the fries. I will definitely be going back and trying their hot and extra hot spice levels as well as their Mac n cheese!

Not a Naperville local so i wanted to try Dave's. Ordered food for pickup and when i got home 30 mins later I noticed they completely messed up my order. I called and the manager said no problem we will write it down and take care of you next time you are in the area. I called when i was in the area again and they acted completely oblivious and said we can't do anything. Was on hold and then spoke with manager for over 30 minutes and said I'm not going to help you or do anything. Manager name was Jordan..avoid at all cost. He was a rude horrible pushy person.

Been hearing about this place for a while and finally came around trying it.. Well, color me impressed! I am not big on spice, so got mine light mild. Very tasty and flavorful. The chicken is perfectly crispy, and not dry. Quite a bit of chicken in each slider too! I could only eat one, so the other one will be lunch tomorrow. The sauce was delicious, the fries excellent and the pickle slices added a nice crunch and flavor ! Very solid meal. This is easily a 9/10 for me!

HOW HOT ARE YOU? "Reaper" hot? Or "No Spice?!" Well at Dave's, you are able to choose from SEVEN different levels of heat for your delicious chicken! Dave's is taking over Illinois (and the world - literally) one flavorful bite at a time! I got invited to check out their menu and let me just give props to the chicken! Their chicken is brined in pickle juice, so you can imagine the flavor that the chicken has. Their shakes are good! Get a half and half with a couple of different flavors or crap an Oreo or M&M shake; they're FULL of goodies. Fries either come seasoned or with cheese and are served hot and fresh. Although I wasn't a fan of the Mac n cheese, the slaw - which is a kale slaw, was REALLY good! You can get it as a side, but it also comes on the chicken sandwiches; it's PERFECT on there! They've also just come out with HOT BOXES that feed crowds of hungry folks! Pick from Hot Box options like 40 tender bites or 10 sliders. And guess what? THEYRE HALAL!!! Go check out one of their locations here in Illinois (Melrose Park, Roscoe Village, Naperville) or across the US and tell 'em that Planes and Plates sent you! Enjoy!

This is a pretty mediocre fried chicken place based on the one time I came here. Quality- the chicken is quite dry and the fries are soggy from oil. Not a great texture to have for fries. The burger was ok but the cheese sauce they provide on it is a bit too strong. It overpowers most flavors on the dish. Quantity- they give quite a bit for 20 bucks. It's enough for 2 people so that make up for lower quality this way. Atmosphere- grabbed it to go Service- drive through was somewhat slow

There's only 4 choices on the menu (tenders, chicken sliders, or some combo of the two), but at least Dave's is consistent

LOVE ME TENDER(S) What Dave's Hot Chicken lacks in variety, they make up for in consistency. For the last couple years, I've been seeking the ultimate Nashville hot chicken experience, whether it's a sandwich or breaded tender. Some have come close (Fry the Coop) and others have been middling at best. Dave's makes a more-than-decent effort. Dave's Hot Chicken has a few locations in the Chicago area: on North Ave in Melrose Park, on Western Ave in the city, and this one in Naperville at the northwest corner of Route 59 & 95th St, next to Smashburger and between Biaggi's and a Currito. These hombres have 7 levels of spice, ranging from 'none' to 'reaper'. John Q Public might enjoy the 'mild' or 'medium', but people who enjoy spicy things would be best off with the 'hot' or 'extra hot'. 'Reaper' sounds like a stretch, even for a guy like me who admittedly loves pushing the heat envelope. Their menu has only four choices: 2 tenders, 2 sliders, 1 tender & 1 slider, or 1 slider. Simple, no? Aside from fries, the only options for sides are mac & cheese and kale slaw. Dave's can maintain tight control over quality by keeping their menu limited, which makes sense. I got the #1 combo (2 tenders + fries, $12), and my wife had the #3 combo (1 chicken slider + 1 tender + fries, $13). Each order comes with sliced bread, pickles, and a small cup of Dave's sauce -- a tasty concoction of mayo, mustard, garlic powder, and paprika. I tipped the guys here an extra buck and they threw in a couple bonus sauces, which I appreciated. My gripes with Dave's are the elevated cost (by comparison, Burnin' Mouth in Yorktown Mall has incredible hot chicken at a MUCH better value), and the fact that my 'hot' was anything but. In fact, my first thought was "did they give me the wrong heat level?" The tenders were flavorful and juicy but I was disappointed with the lack of spiciness. I guess next time I gotta up the ante. * TL;DR * Dave's is good stuff, but after two visits they've fallen short of my expectations, lofty though they might be. 2 tenders for $12 is an awful lot (fries are $3.50, that comes out to $4.25/tender!) especially considering that drinks aren't included with a combo. Fries are great and so is their signature sauce, but last visit I was totally underwhelmed with the heat level as advertised. I've had better, both in Nashville and outside of it. Still dig 'em, and I'll probably come back at some point.

Dave...the man you are. Dave's hot chicken is by far the best chicken spot I've had so far in my life. This is legit because it's also going on yelp and I have to stay objective. Let's go over the big ones. First off, food. Come on. Seriously? The chicken is crispy and spicy, the perfect combo. The reaper is for daredevils, but the extra hot is a chill time for everyday spice lovers. The chicken is cooked to crispiness-heaven. The fries? Crinkle-cut greatness. Might I add Mr. Dave's sauce? It's hard for me to understand why other customers seem to boast other companies to 7th heaven when I know Dave's produces a better product. Last all of the ultimate combo. Shoutout to Noah K. honey with Dave's hot chicken sandwich is perfect for the Louvre. Finally service. Tim, the second coming of Dave himself. With his incredible dedication to the company, he allowed my friend (whose first time at Dave's was today) was perfect. Shoutout to Tim's style milkshake (oh wow Tim!) We made it onto yelp!!!

The chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and the spice level was just right to give it a kick without overpowering the taste. Every bite felt like a culinary adventure, with the freshness of the ingredients shining through. The sandwiches are awesome and the spice level can be ridiculously hot if you are into that. Finally a place that actually lives up to my hot level... The boba and milk shakes are the bomb as well! Did I mention the waffles? It's made with a funnel cake batter. It's probably one of the best waffles I have ever had. It's a great way to end the meal. I would come for breakfast to have those waffles. Plus, the cozy atmosphere and friendly staff made the whole experience even more enjoyable. The red on black was very cool with the custom mural. If they had shirts with that mural on it, I would buy one. If you're a fan of spicy, tasty, and fresh chicken, this place is an absolute must-visit!

The small one, which we got, is pretty substantial. It has two chicken tenders, which are breaded and fried, and served with your preference of spicy seasoning, cider slaw and pickles. My husband got the mild. I got the medium. The medium had a nice kick to it. I might try the hot next time. My husband said the mild had a very slight kick to it, and was perfect for someone, like him, who doesn't like really spicy food. We ordered their waffle fries, which were delicious. The order was big enough to share. The counter person was very nice, and answered all of our questions. The sandwiches took about 10 minutes. The one major downside to this place was that it was very unkempt. The napkin holders and table tents on the tables were filthy. The windows were covered in smudgy fingerprints. The garbage can was sticky and dirty. Also, the menus we were handed did not match up to the menu behind the counter. The items are called different things. It was very confusing. We will be back because the food was really really good, but I hope the owner cleans this place up a bit.

She walked over, grabbed it, set it on the counter and walked away. I'm only hoping she was having an epically bad day and this isn't how she always greets customers. Now for food. I ordered the classic, old south, and sassy. The Classic was just way too plain for me. The Old South is more what I consider a good, basic chicken salad. I'd order it again in a pinch. However the Sassy with bacon and cheese really surprised me. It was my fav of the three. The interior of Byrd's has a red & black color scheme and sports-themed graffiti, not terribly different from other chicken places like Dave's or Hangry Joe's. We ordered a 5-piece chicken finger meal with fries (mild heat), and a chicken sandwich (medium heat). Each one included their signature sauce. There are utensils and ketchup available for self-service. The chicken fingers were cooked well, but with mild seasoning (one level above plain), there wasn't much flavor at all. With the chicken sandwich, there was an okay amount of flavor, but definitely not a flavor bomb. Plus, the chicken piece was noticeably slimmer than Dave's or Hangry Joe's. I would say Dave's is the most flavorful, but Hangry Joe's is pretty good too. Service was friendly and pricing was reasonable, but I don't find Byrd's as flavorful as its competition.

For the record, "croutons" are nowhere on the menu...at any price. There was a scowling manager who reminded me of Basil Fawlty (q.v.). It seemed she was annoyed by the customers. Their policy is NO SPLIT CHECKS. That's okay, we have calculators on our fones. We were a party of four, a regular dining quartet, and it is our custom that no one picks up the entire check. Sometimes one or more of us pays cash for their portion and others have a card. We'll say: "charge each card $40, and here's $50 in cash". Round numbers, easy peasy. (which actually results in a bonus for the server 'cos the tip turns out to be greater than normal) We've never encountered a problem at any resto (who accepts credit cards) when it came to giving them payment in this fashion. O, but there was a problem here. One of our 4 didnt have any cash and needed to pay with his card, but was told "No, you can't!" The fellow with the Card was so offended, he said he was going to skip dinner, and just have a Diet Coke. But that would trigger the $10.41 "I ain't eatin'" fee. Well. It stupefies me that ANY establishment would kick back at customers wanting to pay their bill. The waitress was adamant that we could not proffer varied payments for our bill. We asked for a manager, and Ms. Fawlty sidled up to our table. They kept insisting there was "NO SPLIT CHECK", but we weren't ASKING for a split check. The ask was on the SUM TOTAL (with generous tip added). We even made the ask in "round numbers" They didn't have to do any math. I thought I was going to have to pull up an Esperanto translator to get her to understand we weren't asking to SPLIT the check. After some sprightly conversation, the loose wire in the old bag's noggin hit the right contact and then she grokked what we were proposing. I thought I saw sparks coming from her right ear, but it might have been a trick of the light. Luckily, the guy with the card could now eat. The aggregate service was fine, with the above exception, and as I said above, the food IS top-notch. Even beyond Chicken-- the Steak here is very good. My carping here nonetheless, it's a fun place to go, and you are guaranteed a fine feed. But if you're in mixed company, work out who is going to grab the tab before you sit down...
