First time having Dave's Hot Chicken and I was pleasantly surprised. The portion sizes we worth the price. I liked how the fries were seasoned and crispy, especially after getting it for takeout and it sitting in the box for a bit. The chicken sandwich itself was tasty, crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, and not dry like some chicken sandwiches are. The bun paired nicely with the chicken. We eat at Dave's quite often and we love the food and service, but tonight was a little different, in a disappointing way. We ordered our regular meals and found they made a mistake on the requested heat, as well as made sandwich instead of the strips we ordered. In addition to that the chicken strips were easily half the size they normally are, each visit they seem to progressively get smaller and smaller. This place really surprised me in the best way possible from the moment I walked in! I was greeted by the nicest staff who gave me a delicious fruity pebbles milkshake for my birthday, the food was incredible and so fresh, and the restaurant itself is spotless and super cute. We LOVE Dave's Hot Chicken! We went the first week or two after they opened the Wesley Chapel location and the service was just as good then as it was last night. The food is always hot and is ready fairly quickly, even on busy nights. It's like an open concept dining space with concrete floors so it can be a little loud when they're busy but they also have a little patio with umbrellas! We ate at the restaurant last night so these photos are what we took home. I got their 2 sliders meal with fries and medium spice. The sliders are topped with coleslaw, pickles and Dave's sauce. My husband got their 2 tender meal with fries and hot spice. The meals come with one side of Dave's sauce and 5 pickles; and their pickles are the best You may be able to tell from the photos but the tenders are huge pieces of chicken and like Nashville hot style. They have quite a few levels of spice and I would say their medium is a true middle of the road - flavorful and spicy but not overwhelming. My husband loves spice so he's tried their hot and extra hot and enjoyed both. I paid $18.92 for a number one meal with an extra tender, but it didn't come with a drink. For the price I paid, I believe a drink should be included. In my opinion, the MEAL COMBO was costly. You could stretch your money to PDQ, Raising Cane's, or Hangry Joe's. I ordered our food to go, and although it didn't take long to arrive, I noticed about three employees standing behind the counter, leaning against it and chatting with one another pretty much the entire time. The dining area was quite open, and the kitchen and ordering station noise echoed throughout the room. Overall, the food was mediocre and did not leave a lasting impression. The fries were just average. The chicken had a nice dry rub and tasted fresh, but it wasn't worth the price. The highlight was the Dave sauce, although I believe Zaxby's and Guthrie's offer better house sauces. We ordered two medium tenders and one hot tender. We would appreciate better accommodations for large parties who wish to sit together. Our family drove over two hours to dine here, and we were very upset to learn that we had to sit separately. We were told the tables could not be moved, even though we offered to return them to their original position. This made for a disappointing experience. As for the food, considering how popular this place is, it was only so-so. The meat was tender, but the breading was unpleasant--bland, tasteless, and not enjoyable. The presentation also needs improvement, as the dishes did not look appetizing, and I regret not taking a picture. Even the bread tasted old. Since this place opened, it had been on my list of places to try in Wesley Chapel. There are so many chicken places in the area, but I was interested in trying hot chicken from here. I've been to Nashville and tried the famous Hattie B's hot chicken and loved it. So I was curious if this would be a similar experience. The cashier was nice and helpful. What wasn't helpful was her interpretation of the heat scale. Her comparison of "medium" was "hot Cheetos". I respectfully disagree, because medium was not hot at all. I'll caveat by saying that I did not eat my food fresh. We ordered take out so I didn't start on it until maybe 15-20 mins after we received it. So maybe that made a difference. By comparison, Medium at Hattie B's is kinda spicy. So in the future I'll try hot. The restaurant seems to be a hit. Always packed with people and has a buzz just above fast food. The service could use some help, less talking to each other and being on phones and more customer interaction and less attitude when asked questions. I sat and observed staff being irritated with being asked to do what they are paid to do, keep tables clean, offer Dave's sauce, ketchup, water cups. I've heard great things about this hip chicken spot and happy we now have one in our neighborhood. I ordered the 10pc Dave's bites with fries meal. You can select your heat level. I'm not a big spicy person so decided to try the medium bites and it was so good and flavorful. Not too overpowering on my tastebuds. For the tenders and sliders, those come in a variety of hot. I've been meaning to go to a Dave's Hot Chicken, and I went opening day, and again last Friday. Dave's is definitely going to be a staple in the Wesley Chapel group, the food is not the cheapest, but, no place in the area is anymore. The place is very clean and has a nice floor plan, with a very inviting theme, with fun and upbeat music. The people say hello when you walk in, and the front staff are quick to ask if you have any questions. The food itself the first time wasn't perfect, but, opening days rarely are, this time the food was cooked perfectly (I'm going for the two slider meal, and I get Mac and cheese (my wife and I share this meal). The heat is definitely there, but, not too bad, and the sliders (compared to the tenders) have quite a bit of sweet sauce mixed in. The Dave's signature sauce I always will get a few packets, and I use it both for dipping the sandwich and the fries. The Mac and cheese seems to have a bit of heat, so beware (but enjoy) and the cheese fries are definitely worth it. read more

The joy I had when I found out Wesley Chapel got a Dave's hot is unmatched. lol. Literally none of the fried chicken spots around here can compare. We went to another new chicken spot by the grove just before this opened and for the same price, we got maybe a third of the protein. Dave's hot tenders are HUGE. I will say, I wasn't a fan of the nuggets. We got them hot and as you can see by the photo, my sandwich and tender plate didn't even look the same as the nuggets in terms of seasoning. Honestly looked and tasted like plain chicken nuggets. I won't be getting those again but I will be back for the tenders and sandwich. I stopped by a busy week night when kids were off from school, but I was still able to place my order quickly at the cashier and waited for my order at one of the tables. Cashier asked if I wanted additional Dave's sauce and other sauces when my order was ready to be picked up at the counter. There is adequate seating to accommodate a busy night, but parking outside can be a nightmare as there is limited parking in that small area outside of Dave's. Portion sizes are large (the chicken sandwiches are bigger than you think) with a side of crinkled fries that are well seasoned and crispy. I really liked the coleslaw in the sandwich too. It's akin to Nashville hot chicken with sweet/spicy dry rubs. The chicken tenders were HUGE so don't be put off by only being able to order 2. However the portion of sauce given is seriously lacking for how dry these are. I had to use a lot of honey and still felt like I was coughing it down. I opted for slaw which was tasty, but nothing to write home about. My husband indulged with the top loaded fries which were better because the chicken was less dry with the ingredients already mixed. In addition, this was a to-go order and they didn't automatically give utensils which was a red flag. We ended up eating inside and found it highly unusual that there were no condiments or utensils to grab, you had to ask for everything. Your hands will be so sticky and coated in seasoning and honey that you'll need a wet wipe... but they won't have them. The interior has cold chairs and is overall uninviting and extremely loud. Service was great, friendly and quick turnaround. However, I believe I had different expectations of the chicken. Instead of being presumably fried. It was coated like shake and bake in a seasoning that tasted like blackening seasoning for seafood. If that sounds appealing to you, then great, you may really like it. The chicken tenders were large and fires were ample, with the same seasoning on them which was delicious and much better fit than for the chicken. No dedicated parking others then the online pickup unlike the other businesses in the immediate strip of stores and there wasn't any parking even at 2pm. If someone in your party has mobility issues , you may have to drop them off as even handicap parking was limited. See for yourself if shake and bake blackening seasoning on chicken is up your alley but if you've had Memphis hot chicken, please note , this is not it!!! But the food was ad follows: I ordered the two sliders with fries and did not omit anything. The fries were cold. Tasted like they were made earlier in the day and served at lunchtime. Dave's Hot Chicken was a nice Friday night getaway with the family! Having a newborn, their patio seating was great for those looking for fresh air and ample space for baby carriages. This is a fast food concept, order at the counter and pick up at the counter when they call your order. Love that they have a scale of heat for the sauces. If you love spicy like me, don't settle for hot (because it wasn't spicy IMO) and go for extra hot instead :) read more
