So it goes, the world fills up with strip malls and fast food, and the little human things vanish. But Dave's Jewelers on Nottingham Way is still here, shining like a clean window in the rain. A family business. Real people. The hours are short, Friday through Sunday only, but maybe that is good. Maybe it keeps the place human. I brought in my mother's watch. Not a treasure by market standards, but worth more than Fort Knox to her because a friend gave it to her when she retired. Steve met me at the counter. He held the watch the way a priest holds a chalice and treated it as though it were a Patek Philippe. In five minutes he replaced the battery, polished away years of tarnish, and handed it back to me. It looked reborn. The bill was six dollars. Less than a cheeseburger. Meanwhile, I looked in the cases. Not just the cookie cutter trinkets that line the malls, but old pieces with personality, antiques, oddities, jewelry with ghosts in them. This is a store where people still know your name, and you know theirs. That used to be normal in America. Now it feels like a miracle. Support it. Dave's is the first place we go for buying jewelry or jewelry repair. Everyone there is so professional, friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. At times it has been so busy I chose to come back another time. People sort of line up, but it's hard to know who is next. Not everybody follows "first come, first served" rule! My only suggestion is to have numbers to take as you enter. Recently, I hadn't been there in a few years, I brought a chain I bought there and a watch band to be fixed. Dave's son (I think...he's working more as Dave is in semi-retirement) remembered my name and repaired the items free. Other times, for graduation and birthday presents, as well as batteries or repairs...prices are very reasonable. They are like an old time local shop...integrity, great customer service and community spirit. I recommend them. I would give more stars if I could! read more

I recently had a horrible and dishonest experience in which I purchased an expensive jewelry item that appraised at under half what I paid with another local jeweler and was referred to Dave by the manager at my local Subaru dealer. I was immediately impressed simply by the way in which I was treated, it is very clear that the employees as well as Dave himself is not simply interested in making a sale but in creating a relationship built on honesty integrity and a sales experience that gently flows instead of pushing and pulling you into making a decision to part with money and make a purchase. Dave has been in business almost 40 years and is knowledgeable about every item in his store. I love the earrings I purchased and Dave has earned my repeat business and respect as my earrings appraised at above what I paid! Had a great experience. I took a couple watches for new batteries. Dave's only charges $6.00 for a new battery. The place I used to go now charges $20. Looking back, I should have always gone to Dave's. The battery is replaced by a professional not some kid trying to sell watches. I had a couple of small diamonds fall out of my engagement ring so I took it here to see if I could get them replaced. The jeweler refused to help me. I understood he didn't want to be held responsible if more diamonds were to fall out. The part that upset me was that he made disparaging comments about my ring, kept insinuating my husband bought a cheap ring online, and basically ring shamed me. It was totally unprofessional. A bunch of liars. Don t trust Dave Jewelers at 3684 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, NJ 08690. I used their watch service for the first time this week. I brought 3 brand new beautiful watches to have some of the links removed. I paid over $500 for them. I also brought 2 old watches to see if they could be revived. Well, Steven Bath (the younger guy) manhandled my watches in front of me trying to get the links out and shorten them. I remained calm. I was a little upset that he was using the hard table to work on my brand new watches, and I was worried about scratches. But I trusted him, because I thought he was the professional. In the past, a watch repair place would use a felt cushion to ensure no scratches. When he was done, he placed new batteries into my other 2 older watches, and the glass face popped off one of them. He said he would have it reglued and I can pick up the next day. I went home, and tried not to think much of it. The next morning, I put on one of my brand new watches, and I saw there was a scruff mark on the gold trim. I was soo upset. It hadn t been there before. I decided that I would go to the store, pick up my other watch, and tell the owner how upset I was about my experience, and then walk away. I went into the store, picked up my watch, and spoke to the owner s brother. He was very sympathetic and understanding. He took out a diamond loupe (magnifying glass) to inspect the watch, and he said it was only a piece of thread. I was soo happy. It was hard to see, because the bright light was gleaming off the gold trim. Well, I went home, and in the lower light, I could still see the black scruff marks. He had lied to me, with such a straight face, and concern, and compassion. It was impossible to tell that he was lying. That to me is the definition of an untrustworthy person. Someone who will lie to your face for business. I would not recommend buying diamonds or any jewelry from them, unless you don t mind getting lied to and swindled. read more

I cannot say enough good things about this local business. When I lived in town, I would bring my watches here for battery changes. Then, I needed a diamond re-set in my wedding band (the pave had fallen out). Finally, my brother wanted to propose to his girlfriend, but wanted to do a custom ring. He lives in Philly and works odd hours. I suggested Dave's, and Dave works around his schedule to accommodate him for several consultations To design the perfect ring. Ultimately, the ring exceeded expectations, and the price was more than fair. His now fiancée gets compliments all the time. (He proposed over a year ago) I no longer live in the area, I live about an hour south of here, but I still take the trip to get my jewelry repaired here. Dave never forgets a customer - it's been over a year since I've stepped in the store (due to moving) but I needed another jewelry repair. He immediately remembered me, asked how my brother was doing, and asked me to say hi to him. This EXACTLY what you expect from a local business -- customer service and someone you can trust.
