I was very impressed with the first delivery I had with Dave's. Someone recommended in an online neighborhood website saying Dave's goes to the local farmer's markets, and they also deliver. I got the monthly special, and oh boy, the quality of the meat was so good. I will definitely order again. As fresh as can be. It came fast and in very good packaging. I can't look at grocery store meat the same way again. I started recommending Dave's to friends and family and they started ordering, too. Dave's mistakenly switched an order for my cousin and they fixed it fast and ended up shipping a lot more in value. Great customer service. Can't get any better. Wow wow wow! We ordered our Thanksgiving meal from Dave's, tbh I wasn't expecting to be blown away, but I was beyond pleasantly surprised by our meal! Everything was excellent! The smoked turkey was probably the best I've ever had! The Mac and cheese was delicious, the stuffing was bomb (I don't even like stuffing) the green beans were just like Grandma's. I had a good experience once, but then when I purchased a set of steaks I had to specify not frozen at the store. When I cooked the meat it flared up so bad it ruined everything on the grill because the steak was 70% fat. When I brought it to their attention demanding that this wasn't okay, they only offered to take care of part of what was ruined. Never in my 11 years of grilling have I seen a steak with so much fat, nor have I ever had a flare up like that. Would absolutely never recommend this place. read more

Nice country setting. Seems set up mostly for custom work and picking up pre-orders of special cuts and variety boxes. A few retail items are beautifully displayed in a small meat counter. So why knock off the stars? The short answer: The price quoted over the phone was not honored. Bad form. The tl;dr: This was my first experience at Dave's. I was looking for dog bones and was happy to learn that they generally have them and that they were just 50 cents per pound. Great! Although they were on back order, I was able to get on a waiting list (cool service). Today (about 3 weeks later) I got the call and went on in. The clerk said they were $5 a bag. She didn't know what the bags weighed. I said that I was quoted 50 cents/lb and asked that she weigh the bags. She went into the back, weighed the bags, verified the price with someone and returned to me with the bags, each having stickers on them that indicated the price was $1 per pound. So, I don't have any reason to feel as good about Dave's as the others here obviously do. read more

Dave is an awesome guy. I don't go in that often but he always recognizes me and remembers my brother in law as well. One of the best butchers for processing deer. I drive 2 hours each way to use him, which should say something. His brother in law helps out with taxidermy, and is very knowledgeable. 1st time shopping at their store. Has a bad smell, like rotten meat. Their storefront is tiny, the size of a phone booth. Woman waiting on counter wore her mask around her chin, I did not feel safe being only about 3 feet from her. . Also, they have a very limited selection, with no chicken except for marinated thighs. Giving 1 star for the custom processing. Had hogs done there for the first time and lady was cut and dry on how they do things. Not much deviation. So bacon was super salty. I even rinsed it with water before cooking and it cut maybe half the salt out but still hard to eat. The sausage was way coarse (worse than hamburger) and zero fat ground in. It did have what looked to be fat but was chewy hard and didn't render down. The beginning of the process wasn't very customer friendly and the initial drop off weights were off. And not in my favor. When questioned I was met with a lot of push back. Overall not a good experience and will not bring animals in the future. Just for reference this was 2019 and waited to review their service as I needed another baseline to compare since this was my first experience. 2nd experience at different location was streamline, bacon was great and sausage was amazing. Ok I had a steer butchered and was encouraged by rancher Clint Haglund in Oakdale (the person I bought steer from) to use Dave's Meats because supposedly House of Beef was "backed up and had no freezer space." Dave's meats told that they had space in their freezer to rent. I was also told that they'd have the steer processed in approximately 2 to 3 weeks. I checked back in 2 weeks and was told they did not have space to rent for me to store the beef and it would take much longer to process my beef. I said I'll try House of Beef. They said "No, House of Beef has no freezer space either, you'll have to invest in a freezer." I waited a total of 6 weeks before they finally processed my beef. I called several times and they would either not answer the phone or when they did answer they'd say they would check and call me back. They would never call back as promised. Very poor communication. I checked with House of Beef and guess what? Both Dave's Meats and Clint Haglund (rancher in Oakdale I bought the steer from) had lied to me when they told me House of Beef had no freezer space. House of Beef had space and graciously agreed to let me store my beef in their freezer, even though I had Dave's Meats process my beef at Clint Haglunds request. When I started consuming my beef I had to throw out 3 large roasts and 3 packages of steaks as they were freezer burnt and not properly sealed. Beware these people are dishonest, non-communicative, and do shoddy work. read more

I recently had Dave's process a whole hog for me from the county fair, and was really surprised at how little Dave's Meat charges for that. Dave and his staff are great. Every time that I call him to tell him what I need, he gets it for me no problem. Every piece of meat that he sells is local, which is another plus. Service is wonderful too. When I show up to pick up my order, they always ask me if it is cut the way I need it. I am usually taking the meat to a BBQ competition, so it needs to be cut a certain way so it saves me time. Dave's is the best place to get meat the way you want it in the area. This is an update to my last review. It turns out that there was an accidental mixup, and I received a grass feed beef instead of their regular prime choice beef. Once they were aware that there was a problem, they contacted me to see if they could rectify it. They ordered in a new half beef for me and swapped it out for the grass feed one. We have tried out the new beef, and it is teriffic! I am very grateful for their willingness to correct the problem, and I will not hesitate doing business with them again in the future. read more

We got some very quality meat from Dave's Meat Service along with some excellent customer service. Although it's a very small display room with just two cases, the quality of meat there was astounding. They have a little bit of everything, but get there as early as possible. They may even run out of this or that, but they'll let you know when it will be back in, or you can wait while they custom prepare it for you. The "50/50" hamburger is actually 50% bacon and 50% ground beef, and is OMG GOOD!! I'm on a ketogenic diet and was saddened because so much of their prepped food had sugar in it, but there are many things there to choose from. The price is a bit high, too, but in this case, you definitely get what you pay for!! They also have beef bones for Bone Broth, which I throw into my Instant Pot with a few herbs and spices. YUM! Well worth the $$ and the trip out into the country. I loved it! read more
