I needed my coolant reservoir replaced. Dave quoted me $300 for this repair, and when I said I couldn't do that he proceeded to "sell himself" very manipulatively. "You did right be reaching out to me. Best bang for sure. I've been doing this for 25 years. A.S.E master certification, and TOYOTA, BMW, and Firestone when I was younger, 15 years of mobile. I don't exactly know what each shop charges, but I know BMW is at $200 an hour now, while my billable rate is $80 an hour." Thats the text he sent when I was not willing to pay. So, how exactly does a $10 part and $80 for maybe a ten minute repair (that I ended up fixing myself) equal out to $300? His quote range for this repair was $150-$300. 80+10= .... neither of those, maybe with a great tip it could be somewhere close to $150 if the service was impeccable. However, I wont be contacting Dave for a repair again. That's simply ridiculous. I am not one to lowball someone at their craft, I am an artist and I have lived that many times. It sucks. But I genuinely do not believe that was a fair quote to attempt to charge me for something so minuscule and simple. read more

Alright let me tell you about this scum bag. So this asshole shows up in a beater accord - first red flag. When he gets out all he talks about is his accord - 2nd red flag. He thinks its electrical and recommends to bring it back to his shop even though my engine cranks - 3rd red flag. He takes pictures of issues not related to the problem keeps insisting its an electrical problem. He writes it up in a way that if u were to bring him to court he'd be semi protected. He said he ran other tests that he did not. He doesnt know my home cameras contradict what he claims but still not worth sueing for $175. Transmission on my 2015 Fusion Hybrid stopped working. I asked Dave check it out and determine the cause (a control module/electronics-based issue, a transmission-based issue, etc.). He assured me he could diagnose it. He never called to let me know what was going on and I had to contact him. He is a mobile mechanic so he came to my car at work to determine if my car was safe to drive though he charged me $70 and unlike smitty who will put the $ you pay towards any service, Dave said, "... we will see its too early to see to determine if I will put it towards anything?" #1 First Shady thing, Dave would not put the price of his inspection towards the car being fixed Smitty puts the price toward inspection toward the cost of anything being fixed. #2 Dave said do not use After Market Parts and he has to use dealer parts. In the nicest way possible. Not to offend anyone chinese reading this, but Dave seems to have an issue with "Chinese Parts" He feels all AM parts are Chinese? I will need to lean on his words for this. As it is out of my realm. I said ok I understand your perspective I will of course get another opinion. But can you at least give me a copy of the paperwork or the box so I can ensure you are using dealer parts? Dave "NO!" after me continuing to do research and question him, he later told me its because he , "gets a discount and cant show me that paperwork." I asked for the box at least so I can make sure he then says well we put your old part back in the box and send it to the dealer?? All very shady and made me uneasy. so I went and got a second opinion which you should always do! I called Smitty and he said , "...there is no issue with using after market parts on an axle. I could understand breaks or things like that because you will deal with the squeak. " I then proceeded to tell Smitty, everything Dave said and he said he, "...understood why I would feel uneasy and un-trusting and that it did sound shady." Smitty asked, "...did you at least ask for the box so you have the right part number and know its from a dealer part?" I said I did but Dave would not give me that. Dave said "...well the part numbers don't match because I may add an "i" so it wont be trackable??" I asked then who guarantees the parts and labor. Dave, "I do". 1 year 12K miles. I then asked wait, your telling me not to use a "chinese part" , but your saying we need to use a dealer part and your giving me same warranty for the "chinese part" that doesn't make sense. Dave, " Fine I will warranty for 2 years parts and labor, 12K miles." Smitty as I mentioned above, warranty's ALL WORK Unlimited miles for 2 full years. Dave then had the nerve to tell me I had to pay for it up front. He also over charged me. $500 per Axle and said I need to pay a deposit. For an Axle that wasn't even broken?? So car repairs are never any fun, especially if you are female in this dog eat dog world of auto mechanic. I went by Dave's Quality Auto Service because I was not passing my smog check. Dave was nice enough to look into the problem and he gave me an estimate. The estimate was very reasonable so I called and made an appointment. Dave said the repairs would take him a full day. I work up in Del Mar so catching a ride is quite difficult but I can do without my car for a day. ONE DAY ONLY! I was a bit concerned after reading the reviews, but Dave was nothing but professional with me and I thought he deserved the benefit of the doubt. Well, I'm glad I did. I must say that the estimate Dave gave me a few weeks earlier only went up by $20. No problem becasue he was able to finish everything in one day. I was given instructions to wait a few days and to drive my car before I attempted to get the smog check test completed again. On last Friday first thing in the morning I went to get my car smog tested (See quick tip from 1/18/2013) and my car had not warmed up yet but on the 2nd attempted, I PASSED MY SMOG!!! Now, with everything I just mentioned I would have given Dave 4 stars however, yesterday I received a phone call from Dave asking how my car was doing and if I passed my smog. NOW THAT IS QUALITY SERVICE!!! The 5th Star is for the excellent follow up. Now seriously people, how many of your mechanics call you to follow up on your vehicle's performance......ONLY Dave's Quality Auto y'all. You better recognize! Took my car here last Tuesday. Just got an oil change, but it was a great experience. Oil changes here are $21.99. It's not the cheapest oil change around, but I enjoyed supporting a local business and there wasn't the hassle of the guy chasing you to get you to do service you don't need. He made one recommendation on something I could fix, but he put no pressure on me at all to do the service. I ended up getting it done because it was so refreshing NOT being pressured to do something. The service was friendly and I was in and out in 20 minutes. Mobile mechanic is a great service. Dave was friendly, professional, knowledgeable and had good communications while setting a time to come by. I bought an old BMW that decided to discharge coolant in a furious manner! LOL Dave came and diagnosed it, pretty quickly and when I was not sure if I wanted to go through with the repair he did not pressure me he just told me to call if he was needed, the diagnosis was $99 and the repair was supposed to be $250 more....I thought about it and decided I had to have it done so scheduled the repair, again Dave was prompt, courteous, and professional. Cool guy if you ask me but that aside, he did the repair and when it took less time than he had quoted he adjusted the cost to match... Saved me $100 and nobody was watching him or keeping track of the work time- just honest! and he counts the diagnostic fee ($99) towards the repair, even though it was days later...What? lol My days of getting my cars to the shop and finding a ride home or reading People magazine in some nasty waiting room are over. Tells me it's going to be $270.00 to come to my house for a minimum of three hours... so he gets to my house and after 15 minutes he tells me I need a new battery... He charged me &150.00 for a house call... I took the battery to O'Rileys. The battery was not only good but fully charged.. I called him to let him know and he said O'Rileys was wrong... So I took it to Pep Boys and they said the same thing... he then told me he waould come out for another $70.00 it was the positive cable.. The fact that you are trying to discredit my review really bothers me! Why would you only comment on negative reviews and try to get people to think that my experience was false? You've done it before on another negative comment as well. If you really think I'm a paid yelp consultant, I'd be happy to screen shot the texts you sent me and upload them as photos. February 8, 2013 response It takes me about 5 minutes to write a review or any comments on yelp about my lack of experience that I've had with you. The same amount of time that it would have taken you to respond to me with, "Sorry about your experience, give us a call back and hopefully we can help you out with your services" or anything like that. Which, in my opinion, would have been a better way to go about dealing with my review. I know what it is like to own a small business. I grew up with my parents owning them, and when you have ANY business, customer service is key. How about instead of writing negative responses to your negative reviews, you try and fix the bad experience that these people had with you. I had what some people might call a "problem" car (an imported European Smart Car) and most of the mechanics that I called refused to even look at it. Had an ongoing issue with my 2008 335i. Initially took my car to the dealership and they were going to charge me an arm and a leg to replace my low pressure fuel sensor. Found Dave on Craigslist, scheduled a home visit, and within a matter of mins he was able to diagnose the problem. It wasn't the sensor at all. Rather it was a minor fix. This was a classic example of why I will never get my car repaired at a dealership. Plus he gave me a follow up call to make sure that everything was running fine. Dave worked on my 2003 BMW Dinan M3 after I found him locally through ads. I wanted someone to come to my garage because my car wasn't towable or drivable. He did a rear end suspension rebuild on my car and got it back up and running within a couple hours. He's the best mobile mechanic I've done business with while others lollygag and charge extra per hour for additional service, Dave is nice and sets a flat fee at the beginning of the service. Dave came out a few weeks ago to check out my 540i which had a visible coolant leak from a pipe. After about several minutes of being dumbfounded he said that my car was missing a transmission oil cooler, which I later found out my car isn't supposed to have since it is a 6 SPEED MANUAL and that's a part that only comes on automatic transmissions. He then quoted me about a $500 repair to install the oil cooler, but then stated that it would probably be more to fix. I told him not to come back. I have since then taken my car to an actual auto repair shop and they were able to diagnose the problem within 10 minutes. This guys was nice enough but he just had a tremendous lack of knowledge and resorted to googling the issue for almost the entire time, which is clearly something that I had been doing the entire week prior. I definitely recommend going with a different auto repair service. Now I am out $90 on top of the $195 repair to the coolant piping. read more

Found Dave on Yelp, he was very responsive right away (which is good). My 2005 BMW 325i wouldn't start, and it was determined that the fuel pump was bad. As I asked for a quote from Dave to fix the issue, he recommended checking with the dealer to see if it was covered under warranty. I was like, uh Dave, this car has 132k miles on it, he said it worth a call. I called the BMW dealership in SD and believe it or not, since the fuel pump is welded to the fuel tank, this was all covered under the SULEV warranty which is 15 years, or 150,000 miles. The price for this service would typically be $6,000-$8,000, which had it not be covered I would have scrapped the vehicle. Dave's great insight saved my beloved old Beemer. Needless to say, I'm going to have Dave do all my car repairs from this point on.. he's the real deal! read more

Unbelievably bad experience. I highly recommend that you do not use this service. As opposed to getting my car towed to my normal mechanic, I thought I would try a mobile service. I initially called Dave to inquire if he was qualified to work on Volkswagens, as my car would not start. He said he grew up working on them and knew them very well. All okay at first. He arrived at my house and assessed the situation. After looking at the car, he thought the car needed a new starter. He also insisted that the battery should be replaced although the test on the battery was fine. He left to get parts and returned several hours later. I left him alone to work, and after 4 hours of him working on the car including replacing the starter and battery, he was still not able to get the car started. He said he had to come back which meant I had to take more time off from work to meet him again. After he came back over a week later, he finally got the car started and left after charging me over $800. I took the car for a drive and returned home and parked the car. When I tried to start the car the next morning, it would not start. After contacting Dave, he gave me a list of excuses of why the car would start including, that the whole wiring system needed to be replaced. Which of course he offered to do by towing the car to his house and charging me $200 an hour in labor. At that point I realized I was being taken for a ride. I had the car towed to my regular mechanic and he had the car running in less than an hour after replacing the faulty starter that Dave had installed. When I contacted Dave to get a refund on the starter ($150) he came and picked up the faulty starter, and that was the last time I heard from him. He never refunded the money from the starter and basically ripped me off for over $950. I plan to take him to small claims court. Please learn from my mistake - Do not use this guy to work on your car. read more

He examined a noise coming from the Honda which he quickly diagnosed as a strut issue. He did not even charge for the quick look to tell us the problem.
