Great small batch homemade ice cream parlor! Davey's uses fresh ingredients and nothing artificial (except for the Cookies and Cream, I'm told). I've sampled a couple of flavors and even though I stuck with the French Vanilla, it's very good. They don't have as many options as other parlor shops but what they have is darn good. Flavors like Strong Coffee and Fresh Strawberry are really enticing. Davey's hot fudge is also really good. It's not overly sweet and has a good chocolate bittersweet flavor. The price for a scoop is definitely a little higher but the quality is definitely higher as well. Definitely up for a revisit and supporting a local business. read more

We used to go to Davey's ice cream down in the east village and have referred multiple friends to that store. The one in the east village was closed so we went to the one in Brooklyn. We were a little bit surprised by the quality of the ice cream we had today. We had strong coffee and vanilla in a cup. The temperature is so off and both flavors don't have consistent texture. We are so disappointed with the quality of the ice cream. We would give another shot if the store in the village (the 9th street) is open. Davey's on Bedford is one of my faves, so it's nice to see that they expanded, with a bigger space and more seating area, in Greenpoint! They've always been a very straight ahead, classic spot, with no gimmicks (beyond the boozy rosé cider variety I saw recently), classic sundaes and milkshakes, and reliable flavors. My favorite is usually the speculoos chocolate chip, but this time I noticed the toasted coconut special and the guy behind the counter kindly gave me a sample. It was a subtle flavor and I loved that they didn't put shredded coconut in it (they offer it as a topping if you like that texture). I got a kid's cone which was a perfect size after a big dinner, and my friends and I sat around the tables chatting for a bit. I saw someone post a blog about the shop. And I'm very influenced by my favorite bloggers. I saw a picture of a banana split and boyyyy did I crave it all day. I even got my boyfriend to come with me after his 9-5. I went to the location in the city and it was closed, my fault I should have called. And then we decided, well we're already out let's go to the one in Brooklyn. After craving a banana split ALL DAY I get to the shop and the young lady tells me she can't make me a banana split because they don't have bananas. My whole day was crushed.
