I was super excited to give this place a try! When I arrived I parked in their lot. I walked in, and there were different stations for food. I decided to get the tacos and a personal pizza. I ordered the shrimp and fish tacos, and they made them as you would like them. They looked and tasted so delicious! Well this is another place I've driven by a hundred times but never stopped in. I'm glad I did today! A huge selection for lunch, and the sandwich I started off with today was awesome! I decided to go with The Essex sandwich. Breaded chicken with tomato and a spicy ranch dressing on pizza bread. First off, I never even heard of pizza bread, but it was crispy and fantastic. The ranch dressing had a real kick to it, I loved it. If you don't want a sandwich, the salad bar, the brick oven pizza, and the açaí bowl station, are great options. My wife will love the salad bar! I've really been a fan of market places lately and this one, I have to rave about. My workplace had ordered sandwiches from here for a meeting and all the choices were great! I picked the chicken sandwich and the chicken was so fresh, all the ingredients in the sandwich honestly were. I had to check out the place for myself and try other things. Walking in, there was a salad station, deli station, hot foods, burrito/taco station and pizza (hope I'm not missing anything!). I went straight to the burrito/taco station. I've seen other reviews pointing out if this is better than Chiptole, I can attest - it's DEFFF better than Chiptole. I've tried a burrito bowl and a burrito wrap and I dont think I'll ever go back to Chipotle after this. I've visited for lunch about 5 times now, and every time I get something from the Burrito/taco station, its always fresh and consistent. Not to mention, you're full for hourssss. They offer a discount if you come in after a certain time, Not sure if this has changed but an easy phone call to confirm. I first learned of David Alan's through their end-of-day giveaway, stuff they would have otherwise thrown out. It consisted of a flatbread "pizza" that was very much not pizza at all, a couple of other items, nothing special and didn't leave me feeling warm and fuzzy about the place. But my one coworker likes it here and suggested we go, so we finally went for the full experience, and with a great surprise, it was exactly like I expected! Inside: Chaotic. You have a very small area to choose from and there is food on both sides. It's supposed to feel like a marketplace but when you're talking about a restaurant, it should be linear so you have enough room to browse and think about what you want, and then wait in line and get it. Instead, you are shuttled through a narrow chute and I felt weird for even thinking of turning around, let alone waiting there waiting for my food. Paying at the end was similarly chaotic. My food was at the counter, several other people were waiting, and then a line was forming. That's three different directions of people. I had no idea who would go when, neither did the cashier. I swiped my card and was about to leave a tip when the cashier accepted the transaction and handed me my food. So... no tip then? I had no clue where to go from there, as the eating area is very poorly marked. You're guessing at that point. So we went out back. I was already separating the cold lemonade from the warm meal - why would you package those together? Too late, the lemonade was already not as cold and the meal was already not as hot. As for the food - not that hot. I had the chicken cordon bleu, described as "open faced". Which actually meant "cheese covered chicken on rice, but no bread." I asked for bread and they gave me half a pretzel roll, warmed up unevenly in a toaster. Between the hot/cold spots and the quality it tasted like something Shop Rite wouldn't even put out. Sorry I asked. The rice was rice, the vegetables were vegetables and relatively flavorless. The chicken was OK, two breasts pounded very flat, but only enough cheese for one of them. Didn't make sense. The verdict: I am overriding this coworker on all future food choices. And if you see them giving food away at the end of the day, it's not worth the drive. Sorry. EDIT TO ADD: In response to the business owner's reply, I only used Too Good to Go once. I don't know why they think I used it more than once. My policy is to try new places and if I like them, I'll come back for the full experience. Also, instead of apologizing for the poor service I experienced, the owner is defensive. The place seems pretty popular as a lunch spot; you select the sandwich or deli items you want at a counter, then pay, and either take-out or sit-down at a charming and quirky seating area at the rear of the shop. Service is brisk and friendly. I had the Queens sandwich which was a hunk of French bread filled with grilled chicken, mozzarella, grilled portobello mushroom cap, and drizzled with a balsamic vinegar dressing. The slices of fresh mozz and juicy/tender 'shrooms were great -- I could eat that alone! -- but the chicken was somewhat bland and on the dry side. Like other Yelpers said, this place gets really crowded by noon. Make sure, if you can, get there around 11-11:30. There are many choices like pizza, make-your-own salad, sandwiches... I typically get my salad fix here and for less than $9, you get a lot. The ingredients are very fresh. Specialty proteins cost a bit more, like salmon, but if you look at the board, you get to choose a lot. I will have to come here another time to try their pizza or other hot items. The dining area is quite large. If you sign up via mobile, they will sometimes send you free drinks or chips. read more

I am a regular customer at David Alan's. This is a lunchtime hot spot for people in my office, and just about every other office in the area. That being said, it gets crowded at lunchtime. The staff does their best to accommodate everyone quickly. A HUGE HIGH FIVE for all of the newly added vegan options! Thank you, thank you, thank you! There is some inconsistency with availability of vegan items and their presence on daily specials, but it is so appreciated. Their "make your own" salad bar is top notch. The grilled veggies are addictive and the options are endless. I would like to see their online marketplace ordering system improve. It's hard to tell when specials have vegan options available or not and I see items posted on their Instagram page that aren't on the online menu. read more

The sandwiches are good - coworkers love them, from the Staten Island to the New Jersey, the names are fun, too. The salad is big and hefty, and soup is in good portion. I had a pasta special - the egg noodles with vegetable and Swedish meatballs. The meatballs were pretty good, a touch salty. The lack of any sauce for the noodles left those bland, and the green beans were so crispy that they were almost rock-hard and tasteless, no salt or anything. Ah well. Roast Turkey $6.50 - Roast turkey, havarti, mesclun, honey mustard YUM! lots of creamy havarti cheese. I dded avocado slices to my wrap. It was so good~ just enough amount of honey mustard to balance out the saltiness of the turkey cold cut. Daily sandwich special: Meatball parmagian $6.95 - 4 large (~1.25 inches in circumference) meatballs with stringy cheese. This took a little longer than the cold sandwiches. The bread was toasted and the inside soaked up some of the tomato sauce so it was a bit mushy but it's a tolerable mushiness due to the crunchy outside. Brooklyn $6.95 - Grilled chicken, jack cheese, tomato, Romaine and pesto mayo on French bread. Again added my own avocado and heated it up via toaster. Excellent place for lunch! Each day the prepare a gourmet hot selection of food and soups. If your not in the mood for hot lunch they can make you any type of sandwich that you would like. The have fresh made salads each day that are pre-made in a case. I personally like to get my salads chopped which they will do for you. I used to love this place. Now, not so much. I used to go here for lunch because it is so close to my work. The salads are the best. The bad thing is that eventhough lunch starts at 11, they won't have the specialty salads out until about 11:45. I waited yesterday for like a good 20 minutes. It sucked. Also, the staff behind the counters are unfriendly and not helpful. However, the two girls that are cashiers are very nice and helpful. I think I'm gonna ban this place. A decent deli in a tough location. We stopped in for a quick bite after surprising my mom at work and were pleasantly surprised. It's definitely nestled away in an industrial area off of Route 10 making it hard to get to or know about. However, its a solid deli. I LOVE THEIR FOOD!!! What I LOVE even more is the fact that Stacy(the owner) reached out to me personally to apologize for the small mix up with my sandwich. I called in and ordered a breakfast sandwich (bacon & egg) which apparently they no longer make. When I arrived to my office, I opened the sandwich to find it had cheese on it. I called in to the location, asked to speak with a manager and spoke to Stacy...Well, she apologized profusely for the SMALL mix up and she did explain that the gentleman that took my call was NEW and that they no longer made breakfast sandwiches however, because I had already ordered and I was a regular she made the sandwich for ME anyway. In addition, she had it delivered to my office! It was perfect! I have been eating at this location for a long time and the food is always fresh and always good.
