I moved here for love last November And has been driving back 2 hours to get my hair down every 6 weeks. I went on Facebook and asked the local Community page for a hair unicorn and the most referred was David. I made an appointment and came with my very Diva descriptive hair pictures. And he totally talked to me and my hair came out amazing more than perfect. "Hilary Duff watch out " hahaha This last bust today I am still in awe I have always wanted extensions. I'm really happy with my experience at this salon! I called & explained that I was hoping for an appointment right away. Thankfully David was able to schedule me in that day, he colored my roots nicely, toned my highlights wonderfully & cut my hair just right! My hair is med to dark brown with dark caramel toned highlights. I just moved into town a couple of months ago and had colored my own roots - the wrong color. Nothing outrageous but definitely not a professional looking job. I also gave myself a hair trim, yikes! I wanted to get my hair fixed ASAP - David corrected my mess, quickly too. I was in & out in record time. I'll definitely be back. I highly recommend him if you're looking for a new stylist - he's awesome! read more

I have been to many many salons and while I never had a complaint about most of them this is my fave salon I have ever been to. My hair always comes out perfect and I feel like a new woman when I get out of there. David has amazing hair skills not to mention he's super fun and easy to talk to! I went in today for a haircut and dye with Larry at this salon. He was nice enough, but he changed my appointment to an hour later. I said fine. I asked him to cut and dye my hair blackberry (the first picture). The last two pictures were the results. He had curled my hair and the lighting is poor. I thought my hair was a darker purple than I had asked for, but just went with it. When I left I noticed my hair had orange spots. I texted Larry with no response. I called and he hung up on me. He texted he was with a client. I called the owner, David. David told me to buy Manic Panic and put it in my hair. Finally, David agreed for me to come in and he would put purple on my hair again. After doing so, he said my hair wouldn't hold color because I used box dyes in the past. He told me he could either dye my hair dark or I could pay to have him redo my hair. I elected to do neither. I expect a salon to perform services they are paid for. I have spoken to and shown my hair to five different beauticians who all agree that my hair was not processed long enough and that any reputable hairdresser should fix their mistakes without further pay. I have always used boxed hair dye and all other hairdressers have been able to dye my hair fuschia and purple in the past without any troubles. This is not a reputable salon and very disappointing. read more

THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE EVER BEEN LIKE OMG WOW!!! I am so happy I found David Allen's Salon! Finally I have found my Holy Grail hair stylist/colorist! I have been all over Modesto and paid A LOT more and no one even comes close to what he did. I was nervous to get ombre and he nailed it. He does and listens to exactly what you want. so disappointed, after reading good things online through different review sites on this salon I had really high hopes that I would finally find an affordable, good salon. when I first went in there they were really nice. I got kind of a bad feeling though after he put the bleach in my hair with foils when he kept calling his mom (who also works there over) I thought hmmm maybe he doesn't know how to do this very well if he keeps needing to ask questions. that was the first sign, then the fact that the roots didn't lift very well and left a bit of a brassy look (not as bad though as the salon I left before so I was able to overlook that a little) but before I left he mentioned something about breakage and talked about "baby hairs" which was random. well after I got home I realized that he did my layers VERY choppy...I mean it looked like a stair case on the back of my head!!! and when I started styling my hair every day I realized more and more the breakage. so I am assuming that's why he did such a crappy cut was to prob hide the breakage... I am so disappointed and give up on trying to find an "affordable" salon...u really do get what u pay for. I am definitely going back to streaks. high prices but they have NEVER gave me breakage, brassiness, crappy cut, fry my hair NONE of the above. I am so frusterated but I guess u get what u pay for and it is always a gamble with these small "side" hair shops.... read more
