This winery offers a low-key, unpretentious tasting experience in the heart of Dry Creek Valley. The weather wasn't ideal so our group had the tasting room to ourselves. We parked in a gravel lot and were greeted by a friendly cat and golden retriever. Once we got in, we chatted with the pourer and tried some wine. The tasting area was surrounded by barrels, sports paraphernalia and info about the vineyards and wine. This winemaker has planted a range of grapes and freely blends them together in unique ways. Some wines I loved, others not so much. Overall, I enjoyed my experience here. I'd definitely consider returning. read more

Crazy love this winery! Best hidden secret! I am addicted to their wine! Fantastic small family environment who focuses on producing awesome wine you can only get at the winery. We found David Coffaro Winery while exploring the Wine Country and "playing it by ear", as we typically do. We were so pleasantly surprised by this place! Catalina our pourer was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating. We loved the wines, and they do have some unusual blends and varietals. David has managed to produce some really incredible wines, in an unassuming and unpretentious manner. So many tasting rooms have moved to the "we make wine, so we deserve to charge $20 tasting fees that are not refunded with a purchase" model, which is really a unnecessary, especially when they want a premium price for mediocre wines. David has kept his bottle prices reasonable, and his futures prices can't be beat! This place is definitely worth a visit if you like small, family run wineries who are not full of themselves, but still know how to make fantastic wines! read more

This place is what Sonoma is to me....family owned, real people, wine that represents the varietal ...not showy but about wine. The wines are non-filtered, not formula, just honest. There are an amazing number of varietals produced....I don't know how well they keep because I always drink them within a year or two, but they have become my Saturday night, special wines...love the screw cap...no bad bottles. The place is plain but the staff is not. If you get a chance to meet David or Pat, you will have a special experience. I always take my visitors here to balance out the experience. The other reviews I've seen are very informative. I would just add my personal experience of starting the day here, kinda damp, autumn Monday. That's right, try starting your week here with a Monday morning 10:30 visit. We were greeted with low-key hospitality and were soon discussing Alinghina and the aforementioned Pelousin, and unfiltered versus Unfined (speaking of Pelousin, turns out the only other also family-owned winery making a Syrah-Sirah in Dry Creek is Preston?). The crush was on so we were standing next to several tons of fermenting fruit. The key point I wanted to add is that this is a classic specimen of a family winery that you will never hear of. The bottles I bought (including the Fresco) were all from runs of 300-400 cases - so outside of the tasting room, you ill never see this anywhere but on a restaurant wine list or at the Dean & DeLucca wine store. read more

Just recently discovered this place while we were barrel tasting and omg I'm glad we did! They had an abundance of barrels to taste from and ALL of them were amazing! Though it was a little odd that their big screen was playing Beyonce's latest tour...but that is another story. Super friendly people, great wine both in the barrel and the bottle. We brought home two of their bottles the block 4 and the Zin and loved every ounce of them! Definitely one of my new favorite stops in Dry Creek! Went and picked up our futures that we purchased during the barrel tasting event. Cindy was kind enough to squeeze a tasting in at closing time at 4 or 4:30 I can't remember. I remember being impressed during the barrel tasting, but the bottled stuff was not so impressive. I hope our futures pan out. If not for the last minute hospitality, three stars. read more

David Coffaro is the bad boy, rockin' roller of wine making. He is the vanguard of a new breed of wine makers who are shaking-up the old order. I first found Coffaro a few years back at an earlier Wine Road Barrel Tasting, and I have been coming back again and again and again. At this year's barrel tasting, I tried: 2010 Zinfandel 2010 My Zin 2011 Estate Cuvee 2011 Carignan 2011 Petit Sirah 2011 RaiZin They're all really good. And they're all really different so there's bound to be something that suits your palate. My palate unfortunately is too broad so I get stuck with a case every time I stop by! What I love about David's wines are the beautiful blends or cuvees as I like to call them and the unusual single variety vintages like Carignan and Grenache. While I do so l dearly love Napa and Sonoma Valley wine makers, they do seem to have fallen into a rut of only producing extremely popular single varietals like Cabernet, Pinot or Zinfandel. David Coffaro is breaking all these rules with some amazing blends like the MyZin, Estate Cuvee and Terre Melange. And then he goes the extra mile to do single varietals that no one else thinks of like Carginan. So you have here one of the most creative and amazing portfolios of wine and you're thinking its gotta cost and arm and leg. Well, not even. You can thank David for his "Crazy Coffaro Futures Program". If you are a wine club member, you can buy futures for these wines for less than $20/bottle. Yes, that's right. Less than $20 bucks per bottle. It doesn't make sense. He is probably going to go out of business, so get up there and buy as much as you can before he does! You really get a sense of David's creativity from his tasting room as well. It's just a plain old warehouse but he plays all his favorite rock concerts on a giant wall sized screen. It's like being at a fun party. My fellow yelper Malcolm K said this about David Coffaro Winery, "God bless David Coffaro for making extraordinarily fine wine affordable and accessible on a daily basis". read more

If I could give less than one star I would. I have a service dog for a medical reason, the dog was well behaved and sitting at my feet when the owner of the winery, David Coffaro came in and rudely demanded that I remove the service dog. I explained to him that under the Americans with Disability Act I was entitled to have my service dog accompany me and he told me that with the whole corona virus thing the dog had to go. I again explained he did not have the right to kick my dog out and that I am a health professional running a hospital and that there is no spread of the virus by dogs. At that point he told me he had the right to refuse me service. I told him that he didn't have the right to refuse me service because of my service dog, to which he responded by telling the pourers to stop serving me. I put a pocket card that I have with the ADA guidelines on the counter and he continued being extremely rude as my group and I tried to explain to him my rights. As a business owner of a winery that is open to the public he should be aware of the ADA rules. In the end I was very upset to the point of crying. As a person needing a service dog I left there feeling embarrassed and humiliated. read more

Good reviews are earned - I am not a family member, investor, friend or even an acquaintance. Just a guy who buys wine from a customer focused fun establishment. So - read that it caters to the 50's crowd (written by a thirty something) - been there in both decades. Something strongly resonates with me regarding customer appreciation - (yes I have customers too). I am the buyer here - buying because the wine is very fairly priced - the selection is beyond fun - and I am a sucker for sincere customer interaction and service. This is not about a tasting room - this is a winery - they produce and sell wine. A very varied and intriguing selection of hit you in the face wines. Order wines early, consider joining at a club level to diversify your experience. But do not stop by for a tasting and write a review. Buy some wine - enjoy the full experience of this business and for goodness sake read the website for the $100 bottle of wine blurb - it might even wake up some 30 somethings. Whatever you do avoid the petite sirah and cabernet franc offerings - save them for me. read more

We have been buying futures from David for years and have visited his winery several times. The wines he makes are wonderful, the prices are an amazing value, and he and Pat are as down to earth and friendly as they come. Don't expect multi million dollar cellars, estate and merchandising. Instead expect to enjoy some great wines, relax in the wine cellar / home theater, and meet some new friends. Don't pass on this experience. read more

Every time I go here I leave with a smile and its the best value in the Dry Creek area no doubt, $19 futures for good Zins, nice and the setup for barrel tasting was excellent, I had time to talk with David and had fun tasting and enjoying the lobster bisque they provided. I call this place the rock and roll winery and the Raiders stuff is also awesome, service was excellent, wine great and atmosphere fun with the U2 video on the big screen. I was on a futures barrel tasting. Good Lord! They had 10 or so barrels available for tasting and a Bruce Springsteen concert on the projection TV. The staff were very knowledgeable about all of the wines and they did have some snacks. I purchased a future of Dave's Cuvee because I really liked it. I somehow made it onto the futures mailing list that were from an earlier time and I got invited to a pick-up party. I tasted all of the wines, and they opened another barrel to taste and I was amazed again by the knowledge of the staff. I love their wines and I especially love the fact that they don't filter their wines which seems to give it richer flavors, but you do have to be careful of the sediment on the bottom of the bottles. It's not exactly a place to hang out, but the staff are nice to talk to and their wines more than make up for that. read more

We were told about David Coffaro Winery by some friends who were in the area visiting from Texas. It was one of the best experiences we had in the Sonoma Napa area for wine tasting. The barrel tasting was fun, and some us joined Dave's wine club. Especially loved the Ultimate Cuvee and Block 4. We ordered six bottles while there! What a pleasant little surprise! A small winery, easy to find, and we were greeted by Jose, who knows all about the vineyard's history as well as the nuances of its wines. At $5 for a tasting of 6 wines (waived if you buy even one bottle), it is an inexpensive outing. Although the first pinot seemed unremarkable, I was quite impressed with the grenache which I bought. I was also introduced to peloursin, a grape I had never encountered. It was mixed with other grapes in their terre melange and their wonderful Block 4. That wine was wonderful, a 2014 blend all derived from the same acre of several grape varieties. Try it. You'll like it. read more

This place is so cool! We visited during Passport Weekend and probably wore out our welcome! ;) Actually, I dont think that's possible here. Everyone is so welcoming and friendly! Dave makes excellent wines and we ended up buying quite a few bottles and joining the wine club. We spoke to the famous Matt for a while as we tasted samples from barrels. Talk about a knowledgeable guy! He left no question unanswered! We then made our way over to the bar and spoke with Cindi who was so helpful and sweet! It's an interesting place--kinda Retro-what ALL the 10 + year-old wineries used to do-have tasting in the barrel room/winery. Lots of sports memorabilia about . . . HOWEVER Jesse was very knowledgable-even telling us about some of the unusual varietals available here & how they've planted newer varietals BETWEEN the rows of antique . . . It was also interesting having aspects of the crush taking place behind us. We were introduced to this winery by one of our "wino" friends a few years ago and have consistently enjoyed David's wines since. He is a master blender and the blends are unique and tasty always. The tasting room always has smiling helpful people that love the wine and happy to discuss the ins and outs of each blend without the snooty attitude had by many wineries these days. We arrived just as a wagon full of grapes pulled in so got to see the crushing action. Supper fun! Proceeded into tasting area, which was boxes of wine stacked behind a counter top. So unpretentious. We really enjoyed just hanging out with Jess who really knew his wines and could share this knowledge in such a relaxed way. Not at all condescending (like other tasting rooms can be, right?) Next thing we know the owner walks in wearing cutoffs,baggy t-shirt and flip flops! Came over and started talking to us like we were all friends. Besides all that, the wines were amazing!
