As someone who's been to Soda Rock before, I've never felt compelled to leave a review, but after my family and I stopped in yesterday, I knew I needed to talk about our positive experience. Heather was amazing! She was friendly, knowledgeable about the wine, answered our numerous questions, and I couldn't have asked for anything else. Heather was on top of it from the moment we arrived. She thinks of everything. Our group of four sat outside, and it was beautiful, and right away Heather brought us two carafes of water. Usually wineries bring us one and we almost immediately have to ask for a second. Well, that may seem simple, it really affected our experience right from the beginning, as we knew Heather cares about the people she is helping, thinks ahead, and executes her customer service perfectly. We had a great time tasting the wine and enjoyed the different varieties, but it was honestly Heather, who made yesterday's experience top-notch. We went to Soda Rock Winery on Hwy 128 to do some wine tasting at the "Barn". The barn is a very cool spot, not your typical winery. We were greeted by Heather, who also was pouring the wine. We sat outside as it was great weather. The scenery was nice and open with no other buildings in the surrounding area. We started off with a Rose' that was light and easy to drink. We then had four other pours of various wines all Cabernet and blends and one Petit Verdot. I really liked the Petit Verdot and the Cab Franc. Those were my favorites. Heather was a great host, vert personable and informative. We loved our experience here and would recommend to anyone to try them out. read more

Its a gorgeous winery with a lot of character (including the resilient scars from the fires that hit Napa that hurt a lot of wineries :(.. ). Our host Kyle was amazing, so knowledgeable and interesting. He made it even more of an enjoyable visit and his recommendation on the wines were great. I personally like reds and man the reds here were out of the world, and we picked quite a few to take home as well. they apply the price of tasting against aby bottles you purchase which is always nice. We were welcomed by very friendly staff. We were waiting for the rest of our group but Mark found a spot for us right away. The barn is so cute and rustic and their backyard area is so pretty and next to the vineyards. Mark our waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable. I did not have one wine that we did not like. We had the pleasure of doing a wine tasting with Kyle on Sunday. It was the perfect wine tasting day with the weather/ atmosphere complying nicely. Kyle perfectly enhanced this! We came here on a Tuesday at 3:30. It was so chill and relaxed. Alison (our sommelier) with hazel (dog) were there to welcome us in. We enjoyed the standard tasting flight which was free since we are members of the Wilson group. This was the first time to enjoy tasting at the "barn" and we will definitely return. Although not the same grand tasting room as pre 2019 fires, the barn tasting room has a much more rustic and a true Sonoma wine country vibe. I actually prefer the barn setting to the old tasting room. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Reservations are recommended but not necessarily a deal breaker if you don't have one. read more

Been meaning to revisit Soda Rock Winery ever since the Kincaid fires destroyed their beautiful property last year, and I finally got the chance to do so a few weeks ago. What a difference a second visit makes! We really enjoyed our tasting with Mark, and I'm so excited to come back again. It's still devastating that the Kincaid fires destroyed Soda Rock's gorgeous tasting room. You can still see the ruins from outside of their barn. Luckily the barn was spared (this is where the winery has been currently conducting their tastings), but all that's left from their original tasting room is the brick wall from the original building. Damn those fires! As I write this review, the Walbridge (LNU) fire is currently burning right outside of Healdsburg. Praying that this fire won't do any further damage to Soda Rock or any other property for that manner. I was so sad to see the ruins, but I was also so happy to see the winery is thriving again in the midst of the damage and COVID. We came on a Saturday afternoon and sat behind the barn (outdoor tasting only due to COVID). They have a really adorable little setup here! It was hot when we went, but we had some nice shade from the umbrella at our table. Mark was our host and he was fantastic. He was very passionate and gave us details about each and every wine that he poured. He was also nice enough to take some pictures of us and told us a couple of really funny jokes. I've always been a fan of Soda Rock's wine, and this time was no different. In fact, I was so impressed with their sparkling wine! If you know me, you know that I'm not really big on sparkling. It's pretty rare that I'll purchase sparkling wine unless it's a demi-sec, a sparkling red, or just a really good sparkling that appeases my taste. We all fell in love with their Kenneth Carl sparkling and ending up purchasing a half case of it. They had a great deal and we were able to purchase it for even less than my membership discount allows. I just finished my last bottle a few days ago, so now I'll have to go back to purchase more of that deliciousness. Also really enjoyed their Primitivo and Wentworth Zinfandel. Although we couldn't taste inside of the barn, I was able to admire it while we picked up our wine bottles. It's decorated so nicely! They've got little string lights on the ceiling and a beautiful chandelier. Love the little water mister too! We each took turns standing near the mister because it was HAWT that day! So glad that I was able to visit again. My friends and I had a wonderful time. Can't wait to visit them again soon once the Walbridge fire is contained. read more

This was the last winery we hit on a day full of tastings. We arrived as the sun was starting to go behind the mountains and enjoyed a very nice tasting on the back patio outside of the barn. It was so sad when the original tasting room burned down, and you can still see the ruins of the old structure. I hear that they've opened up a tasting room in downtown Healdsburg, but we went out to the original site. Our host, Mark, was a great Guide to the wines, as well as a really neat person to chat with. At the time they were running a very cool special on their zinfandels, so we split a case with our friends and had it shipped back to the East Coast. I always enjoy stopping by this place, and will continue to do so in the future. read more

We've all heard the beautiful tasting room was taken during the Kincade fires this year in 2019, but have no fear the Wilson Family has the strength and resilience that helps make our community such an amazing place to call home here in Sonoma County. Lord Snout still stands overlook to the original 1800's wall that incredibly still stands as does the original barn!!! So while the rebuild is planned and gets underway the barn now is the place to be! Get out there and support, love, and enjoy the wines. We were lucky enough to catch the tail end of Lord Snout's 3rd birthday party this past weekend. Picked up some delicious wines, enjoyed the beautiful barn, and the overwhelming sense of community. Soda Rock holds the best wines (in my opinion) out of all the Wilson Wineries. Tucked back in Alexander Valley sharing a wall of grapes with Stonestreet, it's often not too crowded and always has people with great attitudes serving. We've taken our pup here quite often and he always gets a lot of love - fortunately they don't make Dog-Wine or else that pup would be getting tipsy for sure! They make a great rose that was just recently released, as well as some whites, but their specialty (like all the Wilsons) are their reds. I have a hard time picking just one but my current preference is their Boardeaux (a play on the huge Boar spinning statue they have out front!) read more

I was knocked off my feet with the Cabernets at Soda Rock! I loved every single one, especially the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon. They have their tastings in an old barn which was cleared out for use after the Napa fire and their old tasting room burned down. Tasting wine with a view of the vineyard under a candelabra in a rustic barn is so much fun. Highly recommend this as your most important stop in Sonoma Valley! read more

I really liked my server (I think his name was Mark). I kind of had to prompt him to talk about the property even though I told him I had never been before. For instance the big building remnants should be a really ear catching story right off the bat but I had to ask about it. However the server was knowledgeable about the wine, sold the wine club pretty well, and was super nice. Recommend coming when you don't want to freeze or be chilled however because like I said main building burnt in 2019 so continue to/ now only do the tastings out of a barn that has portable heaters but is still pretty much directly in the elements of the outdoors. read more

Just a heads up I am a bit biased towards Soda Rock because I am a member. I absolutely love all of the Wilson Wineries especially since if you are a member at one then you taste for free at all 9 of them. I became a member one afternoon when I went in by myself just to pick up a bottle. I got started talking to Michelle who was pouring my wines... I loved all of the wines and Michelle. That was over a year ago. The next time I came in which was months later, Michelle remembered me. And now we both seek each other out and always make sure for a small chit chat. The customer service here is absolutely outstanding. I love coming to Soda Rock because you feel welcomed and like family. I had a reservation for 3 last Saturday and unfortunately had a frustrating tasting experience. Up front I would say that the staff were all very friendly when they were at our table. The challenge was that 3 separate times we had to wait over 20 minutes for the next pour. Each time one of us would have to go into the barn and ask for the next taste. Why? You would think that after the first time we asked for the next pour this would have been resolved. Nope. We also learned that one of our servers actually left and didn't say anything to anyone about us. I just don't get it. It's too bad because again, the staff were nice enough. And the barn, the grounds, the vineyards - all beautiful. But spending 2 hours at a winery, with much of the time trying to get another pour, is ridiculous. read more

Stopped on a group tour for our wedding. They had a separate area set up for us (with tables to sit at) and led a good tasting. I thought they were a little stingy given the size of the group. Very interesting locale with the sculptures and the different rooms. Not our favorite stop, but I would recommend as a place to take a tasting. Despite other reviews stating this place is closed, they are actually OPEN and doing tastings out of their barn which lasted through the fire. I had visited prior to the fire and loved their wines so when my friend reached out and asked if I wanted to go up and support and do a tasting in their barn, I didn't hesitate to say yes. Soda Rock Winery is a charming destination off the beaten path. They've transformed a former general store/post office into a peaceful spot for wayfarers. Highway 128 is steep&windy, traveling along the slopes of Mt. St. Helena, and Soda Rock makes it worth the drive. Since it's off Highway 128 (rather than Napa's 29), it's relatively quiet, even if there are large groups. The hostess was very friendly and attentive, managing to keep several groups happy&satisfied. Nobody felt ignored. While they pride themselves on their Bordeaux varietals (one is named for their artistic boar out front), it's their dessert wines&sweeter whites like Sauvignon Blanc that are their underrated treasures. Interesting trivia- The giant sculptural boar out front was once at Burning Man. read more

I have nothing but great things to say about Soda Rock! Participants of the Barrel Tasting Event with Wine Roads 2017. It was lovely! Clean and open space. Simple. They had white flowing drapes. And from the ceiling clear balls that look like Soda Bubbles! The venue was just breath taking. I could totally picture myself having a wedding party here! My group loved their white wine, Viognier 2015. So refreshing. We bought a case and split it. We did spend a nice time here enjoying all the other wines that they were tasting for the event. The big room was so huge and open it also had a door that lead to a beautiful view of their vineyards. Highly recommend coming here! You won't miss it either. The boar was why we came. I wanted to show my out-of-town friends the sculpture. We decided to stay for a tasting. But like other reviewers have said, they have some work to do customer service wise. No one acknowledged us within 5 minutes of us being there. It wasn't that busy and there were a lot of servers there so we were surprised. We weren't sure if it was because we were young or not good enough for them or because there was a brown person in the group or because they just aren't good with customer service... Maybe you just have to be old and white to be served because that's all who was being served or maybe it was a fluke and it's just a toss up if you're served, but it was a super unwelcoming to us. So we walked out. We can't speak to the wine because we were never served. They do provide cracker/bread sticks. read more

Stopped in for a tasting on a quiet Monday morning. Good thing we hadn't stopped over the weekend as they had two weddings and the club pickup party. So we had a nice quiet tasting. The tasting flight was 5 wines (but we skipped the white), a merlot, cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon, and a zinfandel. As a bonus pour we tried the double gold 2013 Zinfandel, Marshal. The tasting is a real bargain these days at only $5. The wines were good, which you would expect from one of the Wilson wineries. For me, the cab franc was the star of the show and it was only a gold medal winner. I hadn't had one this good since the visit to Niagara by the Lake region. Since it fairly hard to ship Canadian wine to the States, this makes for an easy substitute. read more
