Bought my Toro TimeMaster there probably 15 years ago and have serviced after every season. A few years ago, I hit a Lacrosse Ball and the twin Blades clanged off each other. Yeah, It took several weeks since it was mid Summer and all the Contractors that keep them in business had them busy but the mower came back running great. Now I have it in for year end service and it appears that the bearings had been damaged previously and now need replacement but still, only a couple of weeks and fair price for the work. I'm too old to do my own mechanic work anymore but I do know what it takes so Yeah, they do good work and always help off and on load my mower. BRAND NEW Cub Cadet riding mower just seized up and stopped working after using it twice! I called David Lightkep for service and they had been good in the past. Picked it up ( no notice as to when they would pick up ) and seemed annoyed to be even asked. Long story short they may still be good but my mower was dumped back in my driveway still not fixed and the people who work there are quite RUDE. They need a lesson in manners . I'd only go here now that Kellner's in North Wales retired. Kellner's was so much quicker, better, and cheaper. They were only a shop of 3 people but their son mechanic was one of the best in the country. He could pump out work with efficiency and ease. That motherfuucckker was a legend. I guarantee he's better than any of your mechanics. Please try to find and hire him. Then I will bring everything to your shop. You cheap sons-of-butches better pay up, too. No less than $50 an hour. I selected D.H. Lightkep for mower maintenance for a new Toro mower knowing they'd been in business a long time and thinking that was a sign of good service and a solid reputation. I realize that we brought it to the shop in March, the start of a busy period. We were told, "1 to 2 weeks" for turn around. (And no, they don't help off load the mower.) When we called in week three for an update, the person answering the phone confirmed our phone number and said, "I told you I would call you when it is done." No news during week four. At the beginning of week five we receive notice that a necessary filter is on back order and that we might expect it by later in the week. (Wouldn't you anticipate a busy period in the spring and manage inventory? Okay, perhaps the virus has made it difficult to get supplies). Finally, in week five, we received our mower. I tried to support a local business, but it was an unsatisfactory experience. I am going back to the company that sends someone out to the house to service our mower. It's done in one day, it's less expensive and we don't have to lift the mower out of the car. If you want to use Lightkep, take your mower in in December. read more

I am not your typical lawnmower customer. I don't use a modern Zero Turn mower - even though the new Gravely's Lightkeps sells appear to work great - my neighbor has one. I do all my mowing, snow blowing, and plowing with a 50-year-old Gravely 2 Wheel Walk Behind Tractor (566 with a K301 Engine). I needed some hard-to-find parts and was lucky that Lightkips had some old tractors that were used for situations like mine. The owner, David Lightkep went the extra mile - checked his older machines and provided me with the parts I needed - at a bargain-basement price. I've bought several pieces of outdoor power equipment since 1987 and they usually have provided good service. However, my last service visit took several months for them to service a leaf blower. This leaf blower was taken in for service in October, 2020 and not finished until the Spring of 2021. This is very unacceptable, especially during fall yard cleanup time. They do stock some much needed parts if one can install them by themself, however. read more

THE WORST. Just the worst. Not only did it take an entire MONTH to get a call back about my mower's status, but when they did call, they rudely informed me that my BRAND NEW TORO mower wouldn't be covered under warranty because I didn't buy it from them. Yet, they are a CERTIFIED TORO SERVICE provider, so ... that's just plain wrong. On top of that, when I mentioned that it had been a month since I dropped off the mower and was told that turnaround time was "one to two weeks" -- which was also then given as the time frame when I dared to even call and question the status after three weeks. Simply put, these people are nothing more than grifters, liars, and thieves -- but without any of the social graces usually displayed by the aforementioned triumvirate. read more

Resist the temptation to buy from a big box store! Aside from supporting a local business, when I shop at Lightkep's I know the product quality is the best (they don't stock or service crappy brands) and the service after the sale - parts, blade sharpening, repairs - is tops. My family has been going to Lightkep for three generations now. They have been honest, fair, and helpful at every turn. My Ariens snowblower, Toro lawn mower, and multiple Stihl leaf blowers have all come from them. All quality products, at great prices. Their service and parts departments are well stocked and fairly priced. David, the owner, is an absolute gentleman, he even took the time to talk to my 8 year old son about the soccer game that my kid had at Mondauk Park before we went in for a leaf blower part. Horrible customer service, the woman doesn't even pretend to be nice. The owner seems nicer, and apparently redeems the business for certain people as I am reading other reviews. I was a new customer, it took a full month for them to even look at my lawnmower, with me in the dark until suddenly I got a phone call yesterday. I called every week to just try to find out what's going on, not being mean about it, but the same woman was rude to me and seemed to just want to get me off the phone quickly. Unfortunately I usually receive really crummy Service from here. Me and my father come here often and I usually spend a minimum of $50.00 Everytime I stop by. Mrs. Lightkep usually has a "just under the skin" nastiness towards me & my father. EVERYONE ELSE IS SUPER NICE! With the exception of misses lightkep.... Go figure . I bought my self-propelled lawn mower a year ago from Lightkep. They delivered it happily. Now, after one year, I need to get a wheel fixed and a tune up. It says pick up and delivery is available on their website. My car will not hold my lawn mower and they refuse to pick up my mower for service. I have used them for several years in the past and will NEVER use them again. I would have happily paid them to pick it up and yet, they refused to, unless it is a rider mower. My rider mower wanted to start and would turn over, but wouldn't keep going, so I had Lightkep pick it up. It took TWO hours of labor to replace a valve fuel shut off, fuel filter and spark plug. Okay, so they needed time to diagnose as well. But two hours labor?? read more

The turn around time was exactly what they said it was going to be - the mowers run great and I had an issue with one little item and the owner settled it in the parking lot with me in a fair and equitable manner, no argument, etc. Awesome! One of my friends recommended them; he and his father had been doing business with them for years--they have been in business for a long time, there is three generations of Lightkeps working there. this year I purchased a zero turn mower from them. He let me test drive several of his models and covered the different features each had. One of the things I valued most about doing business with them is that David Jr. is very honest and cares more about gaining you as a long term customer over trying to make the most profit by selling you something more expensive than you need. He delivered the mower to our house, with a almost a tank of gas (about 5 gallons!), and spent time to show both my wife and I how to properly operate and maintain the mower. We had never used a zero turn before. After using the mower all this year I feel I made a great investment. Yesterday I purchased a snow thrower from him and got it right before the store closed. It did not fit in my SUV as I assumed it would. David offered to drop it off at out house later that evening--about a 30 minute drive out of his way. I am glad he did, it snowed today, I am out of state and my wife can use it to clear the snow. My generator wouldn't start. My neighborhood loses power if someone sneezes. I dropped off my generator the Tuesday before a blizzard Saturday at the end of the work day. They weren't sure if they would get it done or not. I explained that my 88 and 85 year old in-laws live with us and we couldn't do without it if we lost power. Less than 24 hours later, the generator was ready to go at a reasonable price. Mr. Lightkep helped me unload the generator himself. Great service. Great turn around time. Now if someone asks me if I know someone for their lawnmower, generator, snow blower, chain saw or whatever - I can say I got a guy! Thanks. read more

I have purchased new and used equipment from them (tractor, chainsaw, leaf blower, walking mower, snow thrower, and more), and they have performed service and repair work for me on any number of occasions. Lightkep is, hands down, the most straightforward, honest, and fair business that I have ever dealt with. Each of the three generations of Lightkeps, and every one of their repair guys, knows his stuff, tells it like it is, doesn't "sell" you (in fact, I've been steered away from making purchases), and acts like a human being. I try hard to support small businesses, but tough in this case. Was driving by and needed to purchase oil so popped in to get some. Paid with my debit card and the woman at the register pitched a fit because I was using a card. Went into a tirade about the fees she had to pay. If her merchant banker educated her she'd know she could push me to use my PIN code and she'd pay a lot less than the credit card fee. Service in general is horrific. If you bring your lawnmower in for repair or tune-up, prepare to wait WEEKS. Even in Feburary. They tell you it will be a week but it never is. I would stay far, far away. When my friend (a single woman) went to buy a lawnmower, she went here and when she started asking questions, David said she was "wasting his time" and to go to Lowe's. She did. They operate a small business that has nothing but contempt for the customer.
