While staff was kind, the optometrist basically told me that I had "eye focusing muscles of a 45 year old" (made me feel kind of bad about it tbh) and prescribed me progressive lenses, not fully covered by insurance. I felt as though she talked me into them instead of simple reading glasses, which would have been free for me. Once I got my glasses, they immediately made me dizzy but I took the time to try to adjust to them. I never did. Made distance viewing worse than before. My eyes continued to worsen over the next two years until I decided to go to a new optometrist yesterday. She informed me I had NO PRESCRIPTION in my prior pair of glasses, just some magnification on the lower portion of the progressive to make text larger. This new optometrist informed me I do have 20/20 vision, but my eyes don't work together correctly, leaving me with the exact focusing issues I had complained of to the first doctor at Monrovia Optometry. Essentially, I had paid out of pocket for a pair of glasses that weren't even right for me, something akin to the reading glasses on the rack at cvs. My mom feels similarly about her experience here, where she was forced to pay even more than me. The lenses made for my newly diagnosed condition are not covered by any insurance, and they were still a more reasonable price than the pair I had that literally did nothing but make me more dizzy than I was before. I don't usually write reviews but I have never had such a poor experience at an optometrist, and after having such an amazing experience at Jewel City Optometry in Glendale yesterday, it really put into perspective how bad my care here was. You're better off going to lens crafters, Costco, Walmart, etc. I understand my condition isn't even tested for at most optometrists, (binocular vision disfunction) but because of this, I truly believe she didn't actually know, or care, what was truly wrong with my eyes, and instead of referring me to someone who would, let me pay her money for glasses with essentially nothing in them. Don't waste your time.

By far the worst experience I've ever had at an optometry office…read more The doctors themselves were just "eh." I felt rushed during my exam. The staff was also not very welcoming or professional. They would stand around talking amongst themselves as if patients weren't even standing in front of them, and only acknowledge you when they were ready. The billing experience was by far the worst part. After my exam, I was left waiting for the biller to come speak with me. When she finally came out, she told me, "You don't have vision insurance. You have a discount rate. If you buy frames from us, your exam is only $25. If you don't, it's $95." I explained to her that I had specifically called the office before making my appointment because I had just gotten new vision insurance and wanted to make sure I found an office that accepted it. I had also printed my insurance card. When I made the appointment, I was told that they accepted my insurance and that my copay would be $25. After looking at my card, she said it looked like EyeMed or VSP but that she couldn't find me in the system. She then asked me to call my HR department or insurance company. So I did. I had an insurance representative on the phone and handed the phone to her. The biller told the representative that I didn't have coverage. The representative then confirmed that I had Spectera coverage. The biller responded, "That's all we need," and then turned around and told me, "There's the problem. You have Spectera and we don't take that." I explained again that I had called in advance specifically to confirm that they accepted my insurance and had been told that they did. I even asked her to spell the name of the insurance company because I had never heard of Spectera before. Her response was, "It's Spectera. I already told you the name. It's not my team's job to know the patient's coverage. It's the patient's job." I reminded her that I had done exactly that--I called ahead of time to verify my coverage, and I was given incorrect information by the office. Throughout this interaction, staff members in the background were smiling and smirking, which made an already uncomfortable situation even worse. The biller then told me, "Fine. You can pay $95, or just walk off clean, but you get no prescription. And good luck finding someone who takes your insurance because no one in the city of Monrovia takes it." That statement was especially frustrating because I later found that Spectera is accepted at LensCrafters and by multiple optometry offices in Duarte, Monrovia, and Arcadia. I completely understand that mistakes happen. What I have a problem with is the lack of accountability and professionalism when the mistake was made by the office after I had specifically called beforehand to verify my coverage. I even asked them to pull the recording of my original call to confirm what I had been told. I work in customer service myself, and I understand that difficult situations can happen. I am also a very patient person and rarely leave negative reviews. In fact, I sat with this, thought about it, and prayed about whether I should even leave this review. I ultimately decided to share my experience because I sincerely hope no one else has to experience what I did. This was, without a doubt, one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. The lack of professionalism, communication, and accountability was extremely disappointing. I would not recommend this office based on my experience.

Making an appointment was as easy as calling the optometry and giving them information on my insurance plan (where they are able to look it up and tell you the benefits). On the day of the appointment, I recommend coming early to fill out the intake form as a new patient and bringing your existing prescribed glasses. Afterwards, I took some quick check-in test before seeing the doctor. Dr. Nguyen did my eye exams and she was wonderful! She was thorough, explained everything in an easy to understand/detailed manner, gave really practical and actionable advice, and answered all the questions I had. The front desk folks, Ben and Raul, were also amazing!! They were super friendly, kind, and helpful throughout my visit. What I most appreciated was that they explained all the benefits of my insurance and shared their recommendations on what frames and lense features to choose given my benefits. In terms of frames, they carry name brands like Gucci, Fendi, Versace, Prada, Tom Ford, etc. Plenty to choose from. Overall, I couldn't have asked for a better optometry experience.

She was knowledgeable about the trends and types of sunglasses that suit low bridge noses, which was helpful for me. The sunglasses turned out to be more affordable because she found out that my insurance gives me a credit for non prescription glasses. I didn't know I had this perk. I'm grateful that she caught that benefit! Once I chose the sunglasses, she offered to do an eye exam. I rarely get my eyes examined because I don't have any eye concerns. However, the process was efficient and educational. The assistant did a couple initial tests on my eyes and made sure the equipment was cleaned before we began. After she completed the tests, Dr. Wong did additional tests to gather more data about the overall health of my eyes. It was fun to learn more about my eyesight. She was gentle, patient and very friendly. I liked how the technology was advanced and efficient. I'll definitely come back for an annual checkup!

My mother, brother, daughters, and I have all received care here over the years, and I had always associated Dr. Morris's practice with trust and patient care. Unfortunately, my most recent experience has completely changed that. My last two visits were with Dr. Bun. At my most recent exam, I explained that I am an elementary school teacher and that my vision needs have changed. I now need help with distance, reading, and especially seeing my computer screen. I specifically explained that I was constantly taking off my distance glasses to use my computer and switching to readers for close-up work. Dr. Bun recommended progressive lenses. I was hesitant about the additional expense, but I was told by both the doctor and staff that I could try them and that if they did not work for me, they could be changed under the warranty. When I picked up my new glasses on August 11, I could see at a distance and through the reading portion, but I could not see my laptop screen clearly at ANY angle. Thankfully, I had brought my laptop with me specifically to test this before leaving. Michelle told me they could remake the lenses as distance-only with Transitions. I agreed and then asked how the refund for the progressive portion would be handled, since I would no longer be receiving progressive lenses. I was told there would be no refund. That means I paid an additional $193 for progressive lenses, they did not meet the need I specifically discussed before purchasing them, they are now being replaced with distance-only lenses, and Eye Care Associates is keeping the additional $193. What makes this especially upsetting is that I had already made it very clear that finances were a concern. I even declined a $25 retinal image. Spending the additional money on progressive lenses was not a casual decision. I agreed because they were recommended for my needs and because I was reassured that I had options if they did not work. I understand businesses have policies. However, I do not believe it is reasonable to charge a patient for a more expensive product, replace it with a less expensive product when it does not work for the stated need, and then refuse to refund the difference. After more than 25 years of loyalty, I am incredibly disheartened that this is how my relationship with Eye Care Associates is ending. A practice that I once trusted enough to recommend to my own family has lost both my trust and my business over the way this situation was handled.
