Oof, dreadful. DaVinci's has a great location, right on the boardwalk. They serve Italian food and prices are fair. I thought, what could go wrong? Things started off okay. We got seated at a nice table, had an attentive server, and placed our orders. Waters come with lemon (always appreciated), the house bread and compound garlic butter were tasty, and our fried calamari appetizer was also good enough. My daughter thought it was just okay, but compared to what followed, it was fine. They even give you a nice-size house salad for the table to share. I was actually pretty pleased here... up to that point. Then the entrees came and all four were plain dreadful. Anything with red sauce was painful to eat. Thick and pasty, like someone dumped out a can of tomato paste, then did nothing else to it. Meat sauce, eggplant Parm, mussels in sauce... all had us cringing and just eating enough to have some sustenance so we could proceed with the rest of our evening. My daughter's scampi was also sickening to eat. The tang, the garlic... it was like random amounts of ingredients were tossed together without any love, tasting, or adjusting by a chef. I believe this location is closing soon and the family is moving elsewhere. Maybe they once cared and don't anymore. If you have any sense of moderately decent Italian food, I suggest avoiding this place. Just have another night of boardwalk food. read more

The food and the ambience were great the food oh my God oh my God amazing we were so full. The food is so tasty. Everything was perfect and fresh. Veal Parmesan was a breaded ground up veal hamburger covered with over cooked sauce and pasta. The salad was soggy and was definitely from the day before. Ivy our waitress dropped off the salad bowl and walked away. We had to wait until she returned to get plates for the salads. Seriously for $80 we thought they would have authentic Italian food. DaVinchi's By the Sea offers traditional Italian Cuisine in an unpretentious, family owned place located on the Boardwalk at 15th Street. The Restaurant is located inside of the Harrison Hall Hotel, which you can access via the Hotel or right off the Boardwalk. Our group arrived separately near closing time, but the staff were nonplussed. Our Server was a delightful person who had only recently joined Team DaVinchi's. Jennifer was full of personality and helpful suggestions on the menu. We started with a round of drinks, Woodford Reserve, Makers Mark, Cabernet and a Cosmopolitan (admittedly the Cosmo seemed to be a bit short on the Cranberry Juice). Shared a tasty Garlic Shrimp appetizer with generous amounts of garlic white wine butter. I enjoyed my shrimp with the fresh hot, Italian bread with garlic butter that is served to start things off. The Italian salad served family style comes with homemade dressing that DaVinchi's is extremely proud of. The salad was incredibly fresh and delicious. I cannot express to you how wonderful it is! I had two helpings--Gustoso. Ta-da! We sampled: Lasagne, Flounder (Catch of the Day), Veal Parmigiana & Calamari Marinara. We had a couple special requests and all were accommodated perfectly. I came here last night while visiting my parents for the weekend and we had the absolute best time! The restaurant was recommended by family members who vacation in OC every summer. The ambiance was cozy and clean with a welcoming hostess. I ordered the Italian margarita and it was quite honestly the most delicious cocktail I may have ever had. Perfect. My dad ordered one after tasting how good it was. Next, the unlimited salad and bread was a great touch with delicious dressing and herbed butter. We had to order a second round. All three of us were in the mood for eggplant Parmesan which had a fresh roasted flavor and a delicious chunky marinara sauce. We were so full we skipped dessert and shared a High Roller orange martini in place of dessert. Also a phenomenal cocktail. After reading the other reviews, I do feel the cocktails have not received enough attention they deserve! (And at a great price) Five stars also to our service. The restaurant was following what seemed safe COVID precautions. However, the food itself was very disappointing. We ordered the crab ravioli as an appetizer and the tortellini with peas and prosciutto. The four ravioli that came with the $12 appetizer were rather disappointing, and while the red pepper sauce was flavorful it wasn't worth the money. The entree was even worse. Tri-colored pasta that we can buy in the grocery store (I understand this could be due to COVID and supply issues which is why I'm rating them 3 instead of 2 stars) but the meat, the small amount there was, we found to be chewy, stringy and flavorless. With Peas in the name I thought I would find more then three and the sauce wasn't fully incorporated, spots of cream cheese still floating, before it was plated. The final nail in the coffin were the chunks of garlic that were found throughout the dish. I was hoping to find a simple slightly nicer restaurant to celebrate our anniversary but this was a disappointment. There was only one waitress for the entire dining floor and she seemed a bit scattered. The table next to ours was complaining of cold food when we were beelining for the door. I wish I could say more positives because I like to support local places in these times, perhaps on our next trip we will give them another chance. read more

I am intimately acquainted with this restaurant, and I have always found the food entirely palatable, however, it could be a little better for the prices charged. The food is, at a minimum, sufficient in terms of quality and variety, and some of the entrees are quite good. The waiters and waitresses always appear to make a good effort, and Levi is their best current waiter. The interior of the restaurant is a little bit dark, but it all works nonetheless. My primary concern has always been the restrooms. They are usually filthy, and are used, to my almost certain knowledge, by the cooks, the wait staff, the restaurant's customers, the hotel's staff, and people on the boardwalk who are aware of their presence and have easy access to them via a basement entrance into the hotel. The restrooms are truck stop quality pits, and their appearance gives me concern about the safety of the food in this establishment. Before you sit down to order, go take a peek at them. If you don't have second thoughts afterward, you're a brave diner indeed. My guess is your menu will be left behind floating on the wind, a breeze created by the speed of your departure. read more

Their website allowed me to place a carry out order and charged my card, only for us to find that they were closed. There are no signs on the door or anything to explain or they were closed just for the weekend or if they closed for the season. We called and the voicemail suggested they should have been open, but that they don't monitor the voicemail box and we should call back when they're open...Don't make the same mistake as me, call and talk to a person before you place an order read more

Been wanting to try this place for years, but never have. Very disappointing. By far the worst food ever! The garlic butter shrimp was absolutely disgusting. The shrimp was rancid, the butter sauce was thick and coagulated, and there was a piece of plastic packaging I had to spit out! The bread was raw and stale tasting, the salad dressing had zero flavor. The meatballs were ice cold like they had just been defrosted. Our pasta dishes tasted freezer burnt and bad, tortellini and ravioli. We made it clear to our server that the food was not good. I would have expected a manager or someone to come out and apologize, but nothing! All we got was a free $4 cannoli and the shrimp removed from the bill. And the worst part was as soon as I got home I vomited and felt like I had a terrible stomach virus! Not sure how this place has survived for 46 years. This is a restaurant on the boardwalk but there is not an ocean view since it is located in the basement of a hotel. The restaurant is clean and we were seated quickly. The restaurant was crowded but there were tables still available. I love that it didn't get loud inside the restaurant despite having over half the tables occupied. The service is on the slower side. After being seated, at least 15 minutes passed and the waitress still had not stopped at our table. We asked the hostess if she could get our drinks. Then the waitress came to the table. We placed the full order at that time. We ordered spaghetti with meat sauce and the soup of the day. It came out quickly, however we were never brought any bread during the wait. I had to ask for the bread. The food was good, the service size was good. If your looking for Italian food, the food is good....just be prepared for a little wait read more

We had a great dinner and Levi was our server and was out standing. We started with calamari with went fast. My kids eat so quickly they barely left me any. The meatballs were delicious and as an appetizer, we all had a taste. The kids meals were ok, ravioli and chicken fingers. I had the lasagna which was very good. I was surprised by the amount of meat in it. My wife loved her chicken francese and it was delicious. My oldest son had the shrimp scampi over linguini. The true test was that he ate it all. The restaurant has a very nice ambience, it is next to the boardwalk, however has a modern and cozy vibe inside. Our server, Anna Maria, was friendly with us and provided us with excellent service. The entrees came with a salad which had a homemade creamy Italian dressing, which tasted amazing. You also get bread with made in-house garlic butter, also super tasty. The Seafood Diablo is amazing - best I had in a long time! If they have it as a special get it especially if you like seafood and spicy stuff! The amount of seafood you get with it (mussels, calamari, and huge shrimp) makes it definitely worth the price! The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. My wife got the eggplant parm and it was amazing as well. The garlic butter and bread you got before dinner was very good... I could have ate a hole roll to myself. Will definitely be back.
