Came here for lunch while visiting family. The seafood was extremely fresh and we received great service. They provided complimentary rolls and toastini. I ordered the steamed gulf shrimp which was so tasty and fresh.

This restaurant was recommended by a local while we are on vacation..WOW is all I have to say!! We are a family of foodies and this place was awesome. Our waitress was so sweet and the food was so fresh and yummy! We had shrimp & lobster dip, fisherman's stew, rockfish, crab cakes, muscles and a burger! The food presentation was glorious and we will be back next year for sure!! Nicely done Chef!!!

Food is mediocre, drinks were late and in dirty cups. Our waitress ignored our needs and made the experience worse. Sad that this is a local restaurant, I really wanted to give this a great rating but unfortunately I cannot lie. The restaurant was more than half empty and for some reason a family was seated right next to us, not only were they extremely close but they smelled disgusting . Will definitely NOT be coming back.

We made reservations weeks in advance so we could celebrate our anniversary with dinner at The Shark on the Harbor. The building itself is set up on stilts and the walls are all glass, so you get a beautiful view from wherever you sit and wherever you look. Inside is decorated with shark-themed decor (of course) and it felt like being in an old school fish house. Our server was amazing! It was packed, extremely busy, and he had several large parties. While service and food was a bit slow to come out, our server kept coming back to check on us and give us updates. He kept it cool under pressure and was so friendly all night. This is a seafood spot and I am obsessed with oysters, so that was naturally our appetizer. It came with a mignonette that was really tasty, and the oysters were soooo fresh and meaty. I could have easily eaten three dozen (on my own haha) The entrees were incredible! We were blown away by the quality, freshness, and flavor of both our entrees. My fiancée had the Duck Duo - we've had some hit or miss luck with duck at many restaurants - and both were cooked perfectly. The roast duck was succulent, perfectly cooked, and so tender. The fried duck was also perfect, the meat was tender, and the sauce was amazing. Both came with a medley of vegetables and butternut squash purée, which complemented both dishes well. I had the crab cake dinner that came with red beans and rice, zucchini and summer squash, corn pone, Greek veggies and feta, and a dill tartar sauce. I'm not lying when I say I wish I could have injected the corn pone directly into my veins. Everything was amazing and while I couldn't finish my whole entree, I sure did later when I got home. Loved this place! Make sure to snag a reservation in advance, it is so worth a stop on your OC trip!

May have been the biggest disappointment of my trip to OC this week. Maybe even in the last couple of years. More so than G Davis not making it this year. First - we ubered here on a Saturday night and sat at the bar due to the fact there weren't any available seats for walk-ins. I am more than fine with bar seating, and usually with a proper bartender food may come out quicker. However, that hinges on a proper kitchen. I ordered a cream of crab soup as a starter. Then time seemed to slip and slide away- then it free fell away. Finally, the soup came. It was about as thin as the chances of me ever returning here. Watery, thin, and really just the kitchen running out and trying to extend it with half and half and rushing it out without simmering or thickening. Awful. For my entree I decided to switch things up with a burger - the one with bison, elk and wagyu blend, topped with Gouda. Ordered it medium. It came out rare - which the inside was part purple, part pink. The Gouda wasn't melted, and the whole sandwich was room temp. Which is odd bc the 54min wait from order to table must lead me to believe the burger was done before the soup was even concocted out of crab meat and half and half. I did get decent entertainment watching a busboy duct taping an air vent that was leaking over a side table. Hopefully you will have better luck - I won't testing the fates again.

Jumbo Lump Crab Cake

Overall, 3.5/5 for the food items I ordered, but bumping it to a 4/5 because my friend's entree was actually good. To note, if you're trying to dine here, make a reservation a week or so in advance (especially if you are trying to eat here on a Saturday dinner). Otherwise, you will not get a table here and they're pretty strict about it. The complimentary bread (wheat? rye?) we got were tasty especially with the crab dip that came with it. The crab dip was phenomenal. I had to stop myself from using a spoon and eating it by itself. As for the food, I expected the seafood entrees to be lighter. Instead, most entrees had either lots of carbs or lots of cream, which wasn't what I wanted this past Saturday. Thus, I ordered a couple appetizers instead since I was feeling a lighter meal. STEAMED SHRIMP (1/2 LB) - 15 There were 9 super sized/jumbo shrimps sitting in the "white wine, lobster, garlic, and butter broth" along with two pieces of ciabatta. Eat the ciabatta early instead of diving straight to the shrimp. Otherwise, you end up with two extremely soggy and practically inedible pieces of bread. The broth itself was pretty sad in terms of appearance (large globs of oil that made it unappetizing) and the bland flavor did not add much to the shrimp. Also, no lobster in sight? Definitely use the cocktail sauce that came with the order. The shrimp was fresh but wasn't amazing. But this is a decent price to pay for shrimp! I'd recommend it if you're craving shrimp and the cocktail sauce will carry. JUMBO LUMP CRAB CAKE - 22 By itself, it's $22... for a pretty small patty of crab cake (mixed with a good amount of mayo to keep its shape and green onions). Definitely not jumbo, lol. It was tasty, fresh, and flavorful! The crab was fantastic and I would definitely recommend it. It is on the more expensive side, but good crab is hard to come by. They did include a side of pickled cucumbers and tomatoes, which I didn't particularly enjoy. My friend got the SWORDFISH entree and that was definitely worth it. Again, you'll be splurging, but the swordfish had great texture and eating it with the rice, sauce, and veggies that came with it was A+. The few bites I was able to steal from my friend made me regret not ordering something off the entrees list. Next time, I'll brace myself for a heavier meal. I hear the STUFFED AVOCADO appetizer is delicious, so I'll definitely consider ordering that if I return.

Ask the Community - The Shark on the Harbor

Do they take reservations?

Open for dine in?

Yes. They had outdoor and indoor dining.

What's the parking situation here?

Shark has a small parking lot in front of the restaurant. There is also street parking, however if there is a fishing competition at the marina, the street parking fills up

Is there a kids menu?

I don't think so, it's really not kid friendly place. Lot's of high top tables for kids to fall out of the chairs as well as the entire center of the restaurant is the bar. Great for adults though. We love it and go everytime we are in OC.

Is there a dress code?

We went in casual shorts and tee shirts. It's a small place, as long as you look neat, you'll feel comfortable.

Do they do Saturday brunch also? Or only Sunday?

Brunch is offered only on Sunday.

Is this joint Dog friendly?

No

Can the July 4th fireworks be seen from the street the restaurant is on?

Probably if there are fireworks at the jetty

Now, 50 years later, Phillips is gone and many establishments advertise their Crabs as the best in OC. Having not been here since 2012, I need to scour the reviews to find where we could get the best take out seafood especially Maryland Crabs. Lo and behold, just steps away from our Courtyard Marriott is the Crab Stop. It's before season so many places are still closed but the Owner answered when I called, had a great sense of humor, and happily took my order for a designated pick up time. We arrived 10 minutes early and they had just completed the order, packed it up, and we were out the door in minutes. This is a Father/Son establishment. Dave (?) the Father is 85 and his son Tom (?) run this fine eatery. It's built for take out and there is no disappointment. We ordered 6 large crabs, 1# of Lump Crab and 2 ears of corn. Within minutes our table was covered with crab, crab shells, Old Bay, and we savored every minute of the delicious fresh sweet crab meat. Look no further than Crab Stop to enjoy the best crabs that OC has to offer and the friendliness and service of these two gentlemen.

Rob and Rose greeted and welcomed us. We ordered the Medium steamed Crabs, Crab Cake Sandwich, Crab Bisque, corn on the cob and Hush Puppies. Wow! What a treat so early in the season. The Bisque was excellent. It's not too spicy but they give you extra seasoning and spice to add according to your personal taste. The Crab Cake was just as advertised. No filler, fresh Crab, Eastern Shore style and delicious. The medium crabs were very good. Some establishments would be seeking them as Large. They were seasoned and steamed perfectly. Heavy and sweet. The sides; Corn on the Cob, steamed in the Husk was very good and the Hush Puppies were a perfect pairing. My apologies for lack of pictures, we ate most everything before I started taking pictures. Rob and Rose were very attentive. They told us their story and shared a scrap book of their off season home in New Mexico. They were in the process of training and orienting their summer staff while we enjoyed our meal. The attention to detail, customer first, quality service and passion for excellent food was on full display. The dining is beach rustic and perfect. There's a good amount of parking and it's easy to find them right along coastal highway. What initially seemed like a disappointment today turned into a wonderful discovery of a new favorite. We ordered the seafood combo that included six hard-shell crabs, three pounds of snow crab legs, a half-pound of shrimp, corn, and hush puppies. The hard-shell crabs were decent, although they seemed slightly oversteamed. The meat in the legs was practically fused to the shell, making them difficult to eat. The snow crab legs were good, but the shrimp were noticeably undercooked, which made peeling them nearly impossible. There were a few bright spots. The beer was reasonably priced at $4.50 a pint, and the hush puppies were excellent--arguably the best part of the entire meal. The corn, however, was tough and seemed past its prime. For the roughly $145 we spent on the combo, I expected a better overall dining experience. Sadly, this seems to be the standard at many seafood restaurants these days: higher prices without a corresponding increase in quality. And while it's a minor issue compared to the food, the deck seating chairs were surprisingly uncomfortable and felt out of place for a restaurant charging these prices. Overall, the meal wasn't terrible, but it fell well short of expectations given the cost.
