I had high hopes for the breakfast burritos here, but was met with raw potato chunks and 90% beans.

Stopped on the way down, and am I glad we did. Had a delicious, wet, chile verde burrito with lotsa high quality meat. The place is super clean, the owners obviously take a lot of care. Mostly soft drinks and beer for sale, but looks like they sell shears and loppers to the agricultural workers too, possibly a breakfast crowd. Simple booths and chairs for decor, but way better than settling for fast food. read more

Stopped in after a short visit to Bakersfield on my way back to LA. Daughter and I each ordered burritos and ended up taking one home they were so big. Chile Colorado wet and carne asada wow. Chips and salsa too. It's a market a restaurant a deli everything you could ever want. Will be sure to stop by here again clean and friendly read more

The best secret Mexican cafe ever. I always stop when I pass thru. So good! It looks deceiving from the outside and might scare you away but super clean kitchen and friendly ladies behind the counter. Give it a try when passing thru. read more

The previous reviewer accurately described this as a cross between "The Hills Have Eyes" and "Texas Chainsaw Massacre." But don't let the fact that it looks like an EZ-Up Shed deter you. The food is delicious, and it earned an A on it's health inspection, so what's not to like? My husband ordered the Chili Colorado burrito, which he said was delicious, and the carne asada soft tacos (which I ordered) were also good--but SPICY because of their hot sauce, which looks like red chilis ground into a paste. The prices are extremely reasonable, and the food is fresh. It's definitely 100 times better than stopping at Taco Bell or McDonald's. Oh, and now they take debit cards. If you're ever in the middle of nowhere and need something to eat, try this place. You won't regret it! read more

***EAT HERE***So this place is right off of the Frwy and kind of in the middle of no where. But if you are a foodie that won't scare or stop you from trying it! The little cocina is inside of the market. We ordered the Chile Verde wet burrito and 3 Carne Asada soft tacos with authentic rice and beans. The beans needed some seasoning and where kind of bland but homemade. The Chili Verde burrito was huge and packed with big chunks of fresh, tender pork! The Verde sauce had good flavor but for me, it could have had some more spice. The Carne Asada was well seasoned and grilled to perfection! The corn tortillas were handmade and soft. Throw in the white onions and cilantro and OH YES!! HOT chips and homemade pico de gallo set this meal off!! You can also ask for the spicy salsa if that's how you roll. We got an extra large Jaicama that is made without powder! The ladies in the cocina are very sweet and eager to please. The whole meal cost us $16. They didn't have tamales ready when I went. The establishment and the bathroom is clean. If you are on the 99 stop in. You will not be disappointed!!!!! read more

Happened to find this favorite of ours by chance and we have hunted for the off ramp since. Mettler Road exit Southbound 99. Not sure about northbound. The food from the inside little restaurant is freshly made by two very nice ladies and DELICIOUS! Had three small carne asada tacos with cilantro & salsa. My boyfriend had the chile verde burrito. LOVED both! And love supporting local businesses when we travel. Restocked on duritos, candles and other favorites. This is a good stop when traveling through or for a well-served and very tasty bite to eat. Very happy to find this place for our travels through Central Cali. read more

It looks like a mini market in a tiny pass thru town - which it is... But, Don't miss out on this opportunity for a delicious meal. On our way home from visiting Family up north. We stopped in for something to eat. Actually, my Husband had already been here and wanted me to try it, We cut across from the 5 to the 99 - simple detour and so worth it. The ladies who run the small food counter inside the market make the food with love. I had an Al Pastor Burrito and my Husband had a half Chili Verde half Chili Colorado Burrito - wet style. Both were delicious. I admit to stealing red sauce from his plate - scooping it up with chips. Excellent! It's on my list of favorites now. I'll be back! So I'm on another one of my forrays into the central valley of CA for business, and thanks to one of my clients who introduced me to Day and Night Market, I have found a true diamond in the rough. Ever find yourself starving looking for food after getting past the grapevine? Most people do what I used to do and continue on the 5 and stop at the bottom of the hill and grab some fast food. Please, take the 10-15 minute detour and stop here. It's just north of the interstate 5 and 99 freeway split, so you won't have to backtrack too much. Day and Night is a market, but it's also a hole in the wall restaurant that serves up some of the best mexican food I've ever eaten, and that's a lot since l live in LA. Had I not been introduced to this place I would never stop. It's a mix between "The Hills Have Eyes" and "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" but the lady inside makes one of the meanest Chili Verde Burritos and the Carne Asada Tacos are pretty damn good too. The chili verde is pork stewed and roasted in tomatillo and jalapeno sauce until it's it's fork tender and unbelievabley juicy and robust in flavor. The servings are HUUUGE and the prices are so dirt cheap it's unbelievable. Oh and the chips and salsa!!! oh man freshly fried tortilla chips, with spicy pico de gallo salsa is free to start. This is the type of stick to your ribs mexican food that feeds the hard laborers that work in the fields, so it's gotta be good food for cheap prices that keeps them going. Don't judge this little book by its cover! Out in the middle of nowhere, Night and Day Market is an unexpected treat. Don't be put off by the appearance! Inside this modest market are two ladies who serve up fresh Mexican food to order. All the food including the chips and salsa are homemade and delicious! We sampled the Chili Verde Burrito, the Chile Colorado Burrito and the Bean and Cheese Burrito. (the B & C Burrito is what my 10 year old daughter had. She is something of an expert on this dish and gave it a thumbs up!!) There is a little seating area to sit and eat. I also noticed homemade tamales but didn't have a way of keeping them fresh on our long drive. They were priced at 1.40 each! There are the usual fast food places just down the road at the start of the Grapevine, but I would bypass those and give This little place a go. No crowds, delicious food, served fast and for a great price. We were out the door at around $15. The other bonus is that it is RIGHT off the freeway. Seriously could not be easier to get off and on. AND, the bathroom is clean!! I am planning to time our next trip this way so we are passing by at lunch just to eat here again!! read more

Got the al pastor with everything. Everything had cheese, rice and beans. I'm not a fan of rice in burritos and feel it doesn't belong there. Food came fast and tasted fresh. Definitely a good road side stop. Getting free refill on the horchata was nice read more
