I filled out the form at https://www.dayworkercentermv.org/ and requested 2 compañeros to assist in multiple tasks: Preparing an area to transplant succulents and trimming back trees. They added succulent mix to the existing soil, transplanted the succulents and mulched the area. In the backyard, Miguel and Antonio trimmed back trees and transformed the area. Miguel and Antonio showed up early with the electric landscaping tools and quickly completed all the tasks and most importantly thoroughly cleaned up the two areas. I am very happy with the quality of the work, their positive attitude and care taken. read more

I contacted the Day Worker center for a project helper for some recessed lights I was installing. I needed help moving furniture, holding a ladder, prepping the space for dust containment etc. Just basically needed a second pair of hands. The first person they wanted to send cancelled the morning of the scheduled day. They let me know and had good communication and sent me a second person. The second person was an hour late. When they arrived, because they spoke reasonable English (or so it seemed), I tried to give them an overview of the project. Apparently they didn't understand English as well as I thought because they assumed they were installing the lights vs just being my second pair of hands. Instead of asking a question or raising a concern, they acted like everything was fine and said they were going to their truck to get tools...and then they just took off and never came back. 20 minutes later I got a call from the Dayworker center asking why I wanted the individual to install lights and that they weren't an electrician. Over-all just a terrible experience. I wouldn't use them again or recommend them. read more

I just completed a couple days of hiring a Day Worker from the Day Worker Center. The gentleman was super hard working and a very good listener. He worked about a half day the first day and closer to 8 hours the second day. I had a lot of weeds growing in my front and back yards. With the Day Worker's help we got most of them cut down. The front yard was finished the first day. The larger back yard took most of the next day. Even though I was asked to review the service, I would have anyway. I was very pleased with the work that was done! read more

I spoke with Carla several times to help us with a painting job and I had the pleasure of working with Isabel and Roque - these ladies are angels and the workers are hard working folks who are incredibly kind and efficient. I needed furniture to be moved from in the house to outside patio so that floor could be reconditioned. I had 2 of the workers from the Center move the furniture out on a Friday and then bring the furniture back in on Monday. Both days the workers were on time and completed the work in an efficient manner. The administrative staff were friendly and also efficient. This is the first time I've used the Center and would do so in the future. read more

I was getting quotes for $400 up from various gardening/ landscaping companies to clear shrubs out of a 20'x20' yard. On a neighbor's recommendation I contacted the day worker center of Mountain View. They sent over Carlos and Lewis who completed the work within 2 hours, brought their own tools and truck. They worked hard and did an excellent job. At $25/hour per person , I ended up spending a fraction of what it would have cost me otherwise. I highly recommend them for your next project. read more

Since moving to the bay area four years ago, I have used laborers for yard work from the DWCMV eight or nine times and they have never disappointed. Positives: -Most of the guys who work there treat it as a second job. They don't just blow in to town for the short term. In fact, yesterday I had some guys come haul wood, and one of the workers (Favian) had been here before about a year ago. So, it just feels so much safer than having a few guys pile in to your car at Home Depot. -Treated right, they work hard!! Negatives: -Arranging travel to and from the center can be a bit of a hassle. I usually send an Uber and since I am in Los Gatos that can add about $60 to the daily fee, and then I call them with a description of the car when the Uber arrives. But I don't pay wages while they are in the Uber. -I wouldn't recommend the center for skilled labor. It is probably too difficult for them to match up your requests with their labor force. On any given day, they may not know who will show up. Other notes: -I usually pay them $20 an hour, and I buy them lunch and pay their wages during lunch. If it is super hot or they work exceptionally hard, I usually give each guy an extra 20 to 50 bucks at the end of a 7- or 8-hour day. -The guys really prefer longer days. There isn't much interest in coming to you for just 2 hours. So I wait until I have a full day. Furthermore, I have found that when you request more than one worker that they work really well together and stay happy and motivated. Teamwork is the key! -Lastly, if you treat them with respect, you will reap dividends. Let them take breaks, offer water, and let them know about access to the bathroom. I have had laborers who were government workers, professors, and tradesman back in their home countries. And don't be afraid to roll up your sleeves and work with them. These aren't just guys you can throw out in the hot sun to work back-breaking labor while you sip lemonade in the shade. :-) read more

I needed some help to move big pieces of furniture in and out of my apt on the same day. I was getting new carpet installed and it was on a weekday, so hard to have friends help. I reserved online for 2 workers in the AM and 2 workers in the PM. They came, moved my stuff in less than an hour and even made sure there were pads to cover the pieces that needed to be protected. The guys were pleasant, professional, courteous and very nice. I was home alone and I never felt threatened or unsafe as a single woman. I am going to have the day worker center paint my spare room, and hang my TV!!! I am so pleased to have great workers available and support my community at the same time!! THANKS GUYS!!!! read more

What a waste of money these day workers are. After 2 days and $500 with 2 of their workers attempting to put together a child's climbing frame, we have 4 unsteady poles erected. That's it. That's all. Have never been so ripped off or disappointed. These people are clowns. Look at the photo. THAT took 2 full days. Do not hire people from here unless you're just doing it for the charity.... because useful they are not. read more

Day Worker Center of Mountain View - Handyman Near Me - Mountain View, California

We needed some extra help demoing our flooring, and I finally found the Day Worker Center on Yelp after being disappointed with other online options. The Center was very professional and contacted me right away with a match, and the worker who helped us was very hard working and courteous. We ended up hiring him again for an extra day so that we could "power through" the renovation work. We really like the concept of the Day Worker Center (vs hiring someone off the street at Home Depot), since it provides a safe environment for both parties, with wages set/negotiated up front, and with 100% of the monies going to the worker. Would definitely recommend the Center and use them in the future. read more

I had intense home cleaning after electric work which left much dust and prior to painting. They moved furniture, cleaned the house and scrubbed everything in kitchen from ceiling to floors. This was my first time and I was pleased. I picked them up and returned them. I provided bottled water, orange juice, gator aide and sandwiches from Subway. I was told I should pay each one $17/hr. I gave each $20 per hr as they were better than any cleaning service I have ever had. I am so glad I didn't get the homeless person in previous review that smelled of cigarette smoke. I can not tolerate the smoke. read more

We had a great experience with the center. The director went out of her way to make sure we had the workers we needed, graciously inviting us to share mexican chocolate and breakfast while we waited the few minutes needed to arrange our helpers. We needed housecleaning for a party, and two workers went over our whole house, They were great: though we don't speak spanish, instructions were shared before we left the center, and our workers had no problem figuring out what we needed throughout the morning, even though we couldn't communicate easily. thanks! read more

Five-star all around experience. Was my first time using the center and a recent move required some painting work and cleaning. Hired two workers, one for painting and cleaning and had a fabulous experience. My painter was so good, I kept him on for a total of three days and I had him do extra rooms. I even had him paint every piece of trim in the house and redo all of my vanities. Incredible attention to detail and did not leave a drop on the floor despite not using any tape! No, he didn't move fast, but he didn't waste time either, worked 4 hours to lunch and then another 4 hours after lunch, never slowing down. My cleaner was great, she scrubbed my stove and oven for two hours, getting every nook and cranny clean. (it was that dirty). I'm really picky about windows and every window was cleaned inside and out, including all the window jams. Staff was very pleasant and helpful when I told them what I needed. Since I had the workers all day, I took them to a taqueria and bought them lunch each day, easy enough. I paid them through lunch, so I considered that my 'tip'. Absolutely got my money's worth and trusted them enough to leave them at my house alone while I went and did errands. They're all part of the Day Worker Center so they're not going to mess around, the DWC doesn't appear to keep anyone in this program that causes problems, so I felt very comfortable with them. Will absolutely use them again! read more

They work fast and just don't want to waste a minute. I continue to hire help from the center and have come to rely on the center often. Moving sucks. Moving companies can suck and can be expensive too! We were moving just a few miles down the road and already did much of the packing ourselves. What to do? Off a recommendation for this place, we hired two workers to help us move and we were very pleased with their work. They worked hard, were careful with our stuff, courteous and nice! We paid them $15/hr for their hard work, provided lunch and gave a tip at the end. They have day laborers that can do many things and when we need help, we will reach out to the Day Worker Center for that help. read more

hired a worker two years ago and also last month. Both times had great experience. They are both very hard workers and done a good job. The last workers was doing some heavy duty yard demolition work for me. I am not sure i can even do an hour of what he did, out in the sun, breaking up and moving dirt, sawing concrete etc.. Glad to found this place, and the wonderful people who staff and work there. Will definitely hire them again for any demanding yard and landscaping jobs read more

The stuff at this center was very effective at finding the right people for the job. They even mentioned that if for any reason the person they send is not suitable for the job you can always call them and they would be able to find you someone else right for you. To avoid miscommunication with the helpers, I would suggest you to talk to the stuff on the desk first prior making any decisions on picking up or dropping off someone. Maria and her team had developed a system to rate helpers. read more

We hired two day workers from the Mountain View center to help us with our kitchen demolition. What we thought would take them a whole day they did in just a few hours so we were able to finish other projects that we had been putting off. The gentlemen worked very hard, fast and efficient. They also cleaned up after themselves. They both spoke a little english and anxious to learn more. We have a bathroom remodel which we will be starting soon and we will definitely hire workers from the Mountain View center again. read more

I have nothing but great feedback. Never used this service before, but found this on Yelp. I needed someone to help with planting & weeding my yard as well as washing all my patio furniture. Didn't want to hire someone off of Craigslist who would end up charging me $500+ and also didn't feel it was safe to pick up a day worker outside of Home Depot. After reading the feedback here on Yelp, I put in a service request on the Day Worker's website and they called me back immediately. I drover there this morning, they had a worker for me within less than 5 minutes, told me he only spoke a little English, but I explained what I needed done right there to the translator. Drove Enrique to my house, he dove right into the work. Weeded my entire backyard, planted 6 flats of flowers and 2 large shrubs, resoiled my vegetable garden and then power washed all my patio furniture. Not just power washed, but asked for a rag and scrubbed them all down as well. I picked him up at 9am and he'll probably finish around 4pm. That's 7 hours of work for $12/hr. I'll give him more as he worked really hard and did a fantastic job. Fed him lunch and had water for him all day. Saved me from a day of hayfever and dealing with a regular landscaper. This is definately safe to hire from and would recommend this highly! read more

After 20 years in Mountain View we finally decided to move. It's amazing how much stuff you can accumulate in 2 decades... even if you live in a townhouse. Luckily we have a great Day Worker center in MV run by Maria and her team. We decided on the ABF solution because it gave us more control how things were packed. But we needed Maria's day worker teams to move file cabinets, plantation chests and hundreds of boxes to the ABF truck. These guys are good. They got over 3 tons moved out of 2 stories without putting a single scratch on the wall. At $15/hr. this was a slam dunk deal. ABF wanted 4 times that much. Being able to choose the skills needed (electrician for replacing a chandelier) and the level of English was clearly a plus. These are dependable hardworking people that I am glad to support. read more

Today I employed men frim the Day Worker Center for the second time--both times for small moving jobs. Both times the men were friendly, cheerful, and courteous, and, maybe more important, quick and efficient--reallr good experiences. Today, I needed help on fairly short notice, and the office was very responsive and helped me get help even though I called late in the morning. I appreciated the way the office kept in touch and set my expectations realistically without over-promising--another good experience. I'm really glad to have this great resource with terrific workers and terrific coordination so conveniently located in Mountain View. read more

Heavy lifting and large yard jobs are the worst! Whenever we need anything bigger than what we can handle around the house or yard at my grandmothers house, we call the Day Worker Center. They always have someone who can get to her house and do the job. We have never had a problem AND we have gone in on last minute notice and got help - it's great! It's way better than going over to home depot and dealing with those guys, at least I know the Day Worker Center has legal workers. Oh, btw, I like the new place! read more

I have been hiring men from the center for over a decade. It's a fantastic resource for everyone. Never had a negative experience

My name is Darrell and I have hired workers from the center many times for a variety of purposes. I am 70 years old and can't do all the things myself like I used to. The workers, both male and female, have helped me with repairs, housecleaning, and moving from one place to another. They have driver's licenses and can drive the rental moving vans as well as my own car. The center always makes sure that I get at least one worker who speaks English because I do not speak any other language. Perhaps my most important comment is that all the people I have worked with have had impeccable integrity. At first I admit I was watchful. Now dishonesty is the least of my concerns. These men and women have been checked out by the center and I trust them not only with my valuables, but with my well being and the well being of my younger family members. These are very good people and they deserve respect. Our community is very fortunate to have this resource of honest hard working people and the Day Worker Center certainly deserves our respec also. On a final note, It gives me pleasure to take them out to a Mexican restaurant or go get Mexican food for them for their lunch. They have been very helpful to me and I always pay at least $15.00/hr or more. I give generous tips at the end of the day for excellence. Give them a try. You will be glad you did. read more

I had a wonderful experience with my first time using the Day Worker center when I hired Ricardo to paint our hallway. He was timely, professional, and always had a smile on his face. I needed one worker to help me with moving furniture from one house to another on a Saturday. I figured they would provide someone strong but without any other useful skills, and that it might be a challenge to communicate in English. I was very pleasantly surprised! The person they provided (Cornell is his name -- consider asking for him), greatly exceeded my expectations. He provided two furniture dollies of his own, is a native English speaker, and is basically a professional mover -- he knew exactly how to rotate sofas to get them through tight spots, how to pack a moving truck to maximize capacity and prevent damage, and how to properly roll up oriental rugs. He also worked hard for the entire time. read more

Was trying to do a least cost sod installation. The main options were: hire a low cost landscaper (bad experiences!); do the work myself, which meant learn as I go, do more work than I'd like at my age, and rent a lot of expensive equipment (sod cutter, roto-tiller, lawn roller). Decided to enlist the help of the Day Worker Center. I've used them several times in the past, and wanted to see their new center anyway. It worked out very well. I went in there and described the job. Got a guy who knew everything about laying sod (and probably landscaping in general), as well as being a tailor and a cook. (what can I say - they've got some skills covered over there!). The worker removed the existing lawn for 1/2 the cost of renting the sod-cutter, so we were off to a very good start, budget-wise. And it only took a couple of hours so this allowed us to get the roto-tilling done the 1st day also, so we were ahead of schedule (good deal because the sod was cooking out in the sun). And I didn't have to learn the machine. Ricardo took over. He knew how to roto-till. We used the tiller in a second pass to mix in compost and starter fertilizer. The second day, after a few minutes, I decided to let Ricardo do everything. The lawn was meticulously planned (and planed for level), laid out and rolled. Actually, he did a better job than I would have. I should add, that both days were actually half days. A new 300 sq ft lawn in two afternoons, start to finish. Another important aspect of the project was Anna's (front office) translation services at the start of each work day. I tried to get my ducks lined up and explain the project before we got out the door. She was very helpful. Great attitudes all around over there. read more

I've used the Center for 8 years. Hired them the first time because the high school half backs that I hired got tired doing the work. Consistently you get people who work hard, don't complain, and do what you ask them. Used them for: sprinkler repair, tree work (not requiring a harness), weeding and pruning, moving, and painting. They negotiate fairly and honestly about hours and payment. Mostly men and women with families that are trying to make a living, so it's easy to connect with them on a personal level. You want to help them out as they are helping their families and they are providing you great service. read more
