Wonderful breakfast stop dining area is a little blah but the quality service and the great food make up for the ambiance or lack there of

They have the best breakfast here. Double blueberry pancakes are two/three meal size but are amazing!

With a nearby bed and breakfast, we don't get out to breakfast much, but when we do, we love the fresh tastes, generous quantities and friendly, attentive service here. You can order off the breakfast menu all day, but when you're there in normal breakfast hours, they automatically bring a small serving of fresh fruit. They seem to do a great lunch and dinner business, too, judging from the cars. but to us the place has a light-filled "morning" kind of vibe, so we've never been there after 11. read more

The Daybreak Cafe is an excellent choice for breakfast in the Port Huron area. Jules ordered two eggs over easy, with sour dough toast, American fries, bacon, coffee. Walter P ordered the "Soon to be World Famous" carrot cake pancakes, bacon, coffee. Jules and Walter split the carrot cake pancakes, American fries, and sour dough toast. The prices and the service were the only things about this place that were good. Wait. The omelette (feta and spinach) I had was quite nice and the fruit salad that came with our meals was good. The waffles are frozen and way too sweet. The stuffed French toast had not been soaked in egg. It just had a coating of egg and was dry bread inside. Everything else was mediocre. Ok, the food is fairly good, but I feel like I'd rather go to Denny's or and iHop. I just personally find carpeting in a restaurant to be gross. Also even though they had several wait staff in a busy morning, I felt like I was waiting forever for everything. I wouldn't go here if you are on a time crunch. If you don't feel like cooking and are looking for breakfast, it's perfectly fine. I will say their homemade cream cheese is actually very good and I enjoyed the American fries. My husband's steak however, was charred to bits when he ordered it medium well: wouldn't suggest getting one. read more

One of the best cafes in Fort Gratiot, MI. They have a great selection of menu items at very reasonable prices. The chicken quesadilla is very good with chicken, cheese, and tomatoes. Their breakfast is good as well. Would recommend this restaurant to everyone. read more

Probably my favorite breakfast spot in the north side of town. The skillets are awesome and as silly as it sounds my favorite thing there along with my friends is the toast. It's big buttery and crispy and IDK what they do but it's ridiculous good . Wish it was a smidge cheaper but still a great place to eat. read more

If the food were worse, it would be a 2 star based on service. But, they have good food, and some "not the usual GFS diner food" dishes that make it interesting so I can give it a 3rd star based on that. If the service gets better, I can bump it up to 4. Decent, especially for breakfast but the place gets SLAMMED during the usual breakfast/lunch hours. We eat there occasionally, usually on the weekends, and usually breakfast/lunch. The food is good, and they have some creative dishes with a wide variety of interesting French toast creations. I have yet to have bad food here. On the negative side is the service. The place seems either poorly run or chronically understaffed. The rushing of the waitstaff, and somewhat disconnected greeters give the feeling of barely controlled chaos. On one visit on a swamped Saturday morning after several people got seated out of the waiting order one of the women waiting had to suggest to the young and very green greeter that "maybe you should be writing down names to keep track of who is next". Every, and I do mean every time we eat here, the waitress messes up. Sometimes major, mostly minor. Most of it is just silly stuff I wouldn't even think twice about if it didn't happen so often. Mistakes like sandwich sauces that were supposed to be on the side are instead slathered on the sandwich and forgotten refills are pretty common. And, for the love of God, be ready to order the first time around or it could be 20 min before you get your next chance if the place is busy. You generally have to be aggressive about flagging down the waitress as they fly by to other tables without making eye contact or disappear for many minutes at a time. On two occasions I had to ask more than once for some red hot sauce for eggs, and then only got it because I flagged down a waitress other than ours. I eat here, I like the food, I just wish the service could come up a couple notches. read more

My wife, daughter and I had dinner on Tuesday 11/17/2014. The service was friendly and prompt. However, the meal left us all slightly disappointed. This morning I find we were all slightly sickened. Driving through, we wanted something mom and pop shop vs chain restaurant. The food was good and decently priced. But our waitress (an older lady) was rude. We didn't bug her, but she made us feel like we were a nuisance. Only refilled our drinks once, after we asked her to. She forgot part of our meal and still charged us for it. We asked another waitress to help us get our waitress because of the mistake. We then overheard her say "what do they want again" and made a huff about it. We had only asked for a refill in drinks and a box... very typical things to ask throughout a meal. read more

The level of customer service has really fallen off a cliff if your not a senior citizen sitting in the restaurant. Management must not care about customer service or taking phone orders cause they are 'too busy.' An answering machine telling people they only want a dine in customer base would be helpful. instead of a incompetent person answering the phone who can't answer basic questions about the menu only to say, 'we are to busy' to take your order. It is this level of incompetence and miscommunication that if they 'too busy' to take a phone order, would they even get the order correct. Probably not. If management and their employees are 'too busy' to provide even the basic aspects of customer service unless you are standing right there and even then an 'attitude' would be apparent. As they are 'too busy' to answer questions or take phone orders. Just come in, sit down, eat, and get out is the image on this place I have now. read more

Carrot cake pancake!! To die for! Never had before, but what a great pancake! Only thing missing was the raisins. 2 large pancakes fill with a light fluffy cream cheese frosting. I could only eat 1 as there SO BIG! I took the other one home & ate it cold from fridge the next day, like u would a piece of cake! It will be hard to go there breakfast, lunch, or dinner & not order them. If u like carrot cake, u will not be disappointed! Yum-o-licious! I had a grilled cheese on sourdough with a cup of chicken and dumpling soup. The soup was pretty tasty, but nothing compared to my Papa's. The grilled cheese was perfect except that the bread didn't really taste like sourdough. Those aren't really complaints, I swear. I left happy and would stop back in for breakfast at any time of the day during our next trip to Michigan! 2013, here we come! read more

I love Daybreak Cafe! Six years ago it became a tradition for two of my friends and me to have breakfast together at Daybreak every time we are all in Port Huron. For this reason alone, it carries a certain significance to me. With this nostalgic aspect aside, it is a place that people choose to return to because it has a nice, hometown atmosphere, friendly employees, excellent food, and great prices. Terrible service! Went there about a week ago for dinner, the food was average but the service was hands down the worst I ever received! There was only 4 other tables plus us...it was dead and we waited over half hour for our food! We got seated right away had a young man come over to greet us and take our drink order brought them back and then just never came back to take our order. About 15 mins later a lady waitress came and took our order then we waited just over half hour for our food...hambuger/fries, turkey dinner, kids chicken strip, and a kids pancake meal... also the lady waitress offered/insisted that my one daughter get a pop or milk as it came with her kids meal (she only drinks water). 21 mins later it arrived at our table as we were boxing our food to go as we had to be somewhere and never imagined a small restaurant with 4 tables filled would take that long for service. Yet, the worst part was the owners wife was working, and I know that because she told the table behind us who she was. She stayed at one table the entire time we were there, friends of hers as she knew them by name...she was running and bringing them extras and kept asking how their meal was while never coming over to check on us. They came in at least 15-20 mins after us and had their food before us. She was totally unprofessional and it was super annoying as she was so loud talking with that table in a small restaurant. She didnt care about any other table. Due to our experience we will never be back. We eat out every Thursday and usually go to Nick's or American Grill we will continue to go to those two places, great food and excellent prices. We will never eat at Daybreak Cafe again!!! read more

I was in the area on business and had time for breakfast on 5-8-14 (usually don't, grab an apple or coffee on the run) so having read the reviews decided to give this place a try. I'm VERY glad I did. I don't go out too often for breakfast but when I do I usually get steak & eggs. I ordered the 12oz. steak along with 2 eggs, wheat toast and home fries. When my food was brought to the table I couldn't wait to dig in. The steak not only looked great, it tasted great. Most steaks I get for breakfast are 1/2 inch thick and not too flavorful. This steak? Believe me, it was better than some steaks at the high end steak house I get too. Great flavor and juicy as well! Eggs were nicely prepared and the wheat toast was buttered just the way I like it. Lots of butter! :) This breakfast was great! The staff was very friendly (sorry, didn't catch any names) and they were around all the time offering refills for the coffee and water I had. I get to this area 3 or 4 times a year but after this breakfast I wished I was here more often! read more

Normally like this place 4 stars. This time, had to stretch to do this review with 2. Dishes seemed dirty. Straw we were given for our son's water was completely wrinkled and the wrapper was opened at both ends and straw actually was dirty. Server had other straws that didn't seem pre-used in apron pocket - not sure why we got this special pre-conditioned one? We are a friendly table so I was confused by our meal experience from the early stages. Food was ok but also gross. Raisin toast was awful. Like it was toasted stale bread. Some pieces were buttered. Some were not. And it didn't matter. It was dry, tasteless and unforgettable. Eggs had an un-fresh smell to them. Other tables of people seemed to get much friendlier service. I wonder if their food was better? Waffles were not as good as if you made them for yourself at a hotel in their free breakfast area. American fries may have been fresh not frozen but just weren't very good. I can't say we will ever go back here. The more I think about the experience and my unhappy belly afterward, the less forgiving I feel about it. read more

I love this place! Was skeptical at first but gave it a try and am glad I did. Big menu, large portions, and inexpensive prices. They have fresh and great quality food. A majority homemade, including muffins and soups made daily! Even when busy you're not waiting long for service or food, huge bonus! Breakfast served all day and you can even order lunch/dinner in morning. I like the fact that it is locally owned and the wait staff is very friendly and tentive! I bring all of my out of town friend's and family here..they all loved the famous carrot cake pancakes and cinnamon roll french toast. I've even seen the owner there quite often talking to customers and helping her awesome waitstaff! I highly recommend! read more

They need to hire a new manager or chef. Who ever runs this place needs to know how to make home made food and not something out of a box. Breakfast is decent ,but then again that's not hard to mess up. Way better in the area to get top quality food for your money. read more
