Just a few short minutes from the hotel is this beautiful place. Lake Michigan at the Manistee Pier area.

My wife & I stayed two nights in this beautiful town on the day before, and opening day of deer season in Michigan. We weren't hunting. Just on a vacation in my love's home state. However, because of the aforementioned season opener, we expected big crowds. Not the case in Manistee. Lots of hunters east of there in Wellston for sure! What we got was a very clean, fine smelling room with all the necessary accommodations. I will say that the water does stink. I never asked why, so I won't speculate. But we only used the room for sleeping, and gettin ready to go! We weren't there all day. That would be stupid in such a cool town. Perfect for a "home base" to use as we toured the north of the state along Hwy 55. We paid $120 to stay two nights there. Can't beat that! I asked about a AAA discount, and was told it would change my price bracket, so don't. We didn't. Wise choice, and a hot tip from the gal checkin us in. Thanks, Gal! Light around the door. Who the f**k cares? I was sleeping in a comfortable bed with my eyes closed next to my beautiful wife. Couldn't have cared less about that. There's bigger Walleye to fry to me! If that's big to you, stay at a Double Tree someplace else. The fireplace in our room was blazin all night, too. Cozy on a cool fall night. Breakfast is a carb-fest. The only protein in the building were hard boiled eggs. So, we hit the House Of Flavors up the street. Simple preference there. Same deal though; if you don't like their offerings, go somewhere else! We did. So, four stars for us. Would've been five if the water didn't stink, and there was some bacon! Cool folks, too... :)

Tons of shelves in the shower. Large tub, as well.

Nice little hotel for the weekend. Hubby and I booked a double queen room as his sister was supposed to stay with us. but plans changed last minute. Glad we booked when we did though because it was all booked up for the weekend. Great sized shower- lots of space for all toiletries. I am not a fan of the sink outside the bathroom as there isn't much privacy, but other than that and a couple of updates here and there, a very sweet little hotel. Very clean. The housekeeping staff made sure to clean daily and kept the room tidy for us.

Window view from room 259. Very little daylight, room always dim.

I stayed here for one night with my mother. Came into our room, room 259, and immediately noticed that the window faced directly out at the adjacent brick wall, with just a few feet in between our window and the brick (see picture). My mother and I found it quite laughable, because we just couldn't believe it. I can safely say that I have stayed at a variety of hotels through in my life, other Days Inns included, and I've never had a view quite like that. There was almost no natural light in the room whatsoever, and the room was almost constantly dim, even the next morning. There appeared to be other rooms that faced the brick wall at this location as well, so if you are calling ahead to make a reservation here, I'd advise you to request a room that faces elsewhere. Once we laughed off the view, we went about using the bathroom and discussing our plans for dinner. This was when the real problems began. The toilet seemed to flush very, very slowly, and there was no light in the bathroom, so you had to leave the door open to do your business if you wanted to see. We left the room and went out. When we returned after midnight, we determined that the toilet was now not flushing at all. It would swirl, but not recycle. As you can imagine, this did not make the shower desirable but, being totally exhausted, we made the decision to notify the front desk in the morning. It had gotten a little chilly, so we turned on the heating unit and holy cow did it smell just like burnt hair and must. We had to turn it off immediately. And, to top the night off, I went to lock the deadbolt, and there wasn't one. Meaning, the latch component was present, but the lock was not- you swung it over onto a bunch of nail holes where the component used to be. Combined with the fact that there is no exterior keypad entry at this hotel and you can just walk in, this was a little uncomfortable. The next morning, I went down to the front desk and let them know about the toilet. The woman working, who seemed nice, immediately offered to send up assistance/plunger, but as we were minutes from checking out, I let her know I just wanted her to have a heads up to give housekeeping. Then, the clincher- a member of the housekeeping staff standing nearby let me know that they'd been having issues with the toilets throughout the entire hotel for TWO DAYS. We were not informed of this at all, at check-in or otherwise, and I feel that we should have been. Especially given that our reservation was made in advance, they had time to bring this to our attention. Furthermore, if the entire hotel was having issues flushing, I suspect a plunger would've just been just a temporary fix to a bigger problem. On my way back up our room for our bags I overheard another conversation between housekeeping staff about yet ANOTHER toilet issue in a different room. By this time, I was shaking my head. I felt so terrible for the housekeeping staff! If the toilets don't flush, it seems like it will only be a matter of time before they begin to overflow, and then what a mess that will be! Days Inn, in general, is a basic hotel. For the price, you expect a clean bed, a working toilet and shower, and to feel safe. I can overlook the view, bad as it was, but I can't overlook the issues with the plumbing, and the missing deadbolt, as well as lack of communication from the staff about ongoing issues in the building. Needless to say, we will not be back, and will try a different hotel for our trip back to Manistee next year.

We were concerned our golf weekend was going to be ruined, but we were informed that the course staff was working on cleaning up the course, and we should be able to tee off at 12:30! Perfect! We were hoping to be able to check-in to our room ahead of time, but the resort was full the night prior, so instead, we had lunch and a drink at the Grille. I ordered the BBQ Brisket Tacos, which were delicious! It came with three tacos and a side of chips. My boyfriend ordered the Whitefish Quesadillas, which don't sound very appetizing, but he likes quesadillas. We would not recommend them. They were so bland. We felt like we were eating Cream of Mushroom soup quesadillas. When we got to the tee box at 12:30pm, we were told that the other 18-hole course, The Revenge, was closed due to the heavy rain, so anyone golfing that course is now going to be fit onto The Retreat, which meant we would be paired with another twosome. I wasn't thrilled because it was supposed to be a couples getaway for us, and I also get very nervous playing with people I don't know. However, we got very lucky and were paired with a really fun couple! So, this ended up being a great experience, but be aware that if you are a twosome, you may get paired with another twosome. We finished our round only a few balls shorter than when we started (haha), and had dinner at the Grille. We both ordered burgers with fries (not pictured), and they were delicious! We sat outside on the back deck, which was nice, and our waitress, Gayle, was very friendly and attentive. We walked back to the resort, and had big plans to enjoy the pool or firepit, but instead crashed early from a long day on the course. Saturday morning we were looking for the "hot breakfast". I DO NOT RECOMMEND this breakfast. It's located at the Grille, and is $15/person for ham, sausage links, potatoes, and eggs - all of which were cold. It was gross. It was included in our package, but otherwise is $15/person, which is absurd. The hotel has an included breakfast with bagels, cereal, oats, and yogurt, which will suffice. Otherwise, there's Cafe 106 right downtown Manistee that has DELICIOUS BREAKFAST at reasonable prices. Since it poured again Friday night, we were worried we wouldn't be able to play The Revenge at 11am due it being under water. However, we were told we could play, but that it would be wet. Not a big deal. This course, like The Retreat, is absolutely beautiful! We warmed up at the driving range (right near The Revenge course) where I seemingly used all of my decent shots (haha!). We ended up venturing downtown Manistee for dinner and drinks to wrap up our stay here. The room is nothing fancy, but is nice, and I like that the resort has a fitness facility. Overall, our stay here was really great, and we would definitely visit again!

I requested a refund for the remaining nights so we could move to another hotel, which required approval from the property since the reservation was made through a third-party booking service. Immediately upon walking into our room (202), the air felt damp and it smelled really musty. I turned on the air conditioner and it smelled like mold. When I looked inside the vent, I could see it was covered in mold. There was also mold in the bathroom around the edges of the shower After that I returned to the front desk and explained that I didn't want to be a bother, but because of my extreme allergy to mold, I would like a refund so that I could book elsewhere. The man at the desk immediately took a condescending tone for the rest of our interaction, and told me I was wrong and that it was not mold and that I didn't know what I was talking about. It was 100% mold. My company does large scale mold remediation; I've seen LOTS. When I said that we'd just have to agree to disagree, but that I would still like a refund, he rolled his eyes and doubled down on his assertion that I was wrong and said that they have a policy of no refunds and refused to issue one, pointing to the no refunds disclaimer on the receipt. I had a choice of eating the cost and leaving to get a room elsewhere, or staying and putting up with the mold. We stayed and my allergies were miserable all night long. That was hands down one of the worst experiences I've had as a customer of any business, period. I was talked down to and treated like straight garbage. There are so many better places near here. Stay far, far away.
