We drove 6 hours and took time off work to attend a wedding to be left without power for 3+ hours... who knows when it will come back on, we're going to sleep. It may sound like hyperbole but I never had this problem in any hotel in Zimbabwe, Ghana, or other developing countries with spotty grids in all my years of traveling. There are generators keeping the Friday night wedding dance floors lit but all the rooms are dark. Keeping it two stars because the food and service is great! Now I'm hoping the power doesn't come until The morning so when inevitably all the lights and systems whirl to life my sleeping toddler doesn't wake with a fury that can't be put back down.

We had a great time at the Clam bake, lots of good food and great cold beer. The next day we were entertained by a fantastic singer on the patio. This place is expensive but it is a great place to visit. It is very family friendly with lots of activities for children, as well as three great pools, including an indoor pool so that children could be fully engaged in fun. Plus all the nice activities for adults, it makes it a wise choice for people who don't want to travel far, but want to enjoy a couple of days away. Pair that with great food and you have a winner.

Will say, looked a little shady when we first pulled up, but check in was nice and easy, room was immaculate when we got in. Very quiet area, right off the main road so easy on and off. Everything seemed to be completely re-done inside. Fridge/freezer/microwave, table with chairs gave that homely feel. Beds were comfortable, just very squeaky every time you moved around. The lady who helped us check in was super nice and very responsive with any questions. The bad Booked a room for 2 queen beds, these were 100% not queens. I know they were super busy and booked through with the Nationals in town, so i didnt make a fuss The room stunk like old cigarettes, even though no smoking in the rooms The tub had a massive bubble in it from the wrongly done bath fitter, and i was told about it prior and they have been so busy that they couldnt get anyone out yet to have it fixed. Overall, a solid 2 night stay. I would be back if in town again

DO NOT BOOK THIS MOTEL!!! When you google this motel it shows vacancy through third party booking…read moresuch as Expedia BUT NOWHERE DOES IT DISPLAY THAT THIS MOTEL IS NOT 24 HOURS. My house ran out of power and heat due to the BAD snowstorm and in the middle of the night I booked a room for 90$ with this motel, and they WEREN'T EVEN OPEN!!! My cellphone battery died and I was left stranded in the middle of a snowstorm AT 3AM!!!!!! Thankfully a stranger at a nearby gas station guided me towards a highway that would lead me to more hotels that were actually 24 hours. Later when Sussex Motel opened, I called and explained my situation to the representative. The woman I spoke to cancelled my reservation as we were on the phone and said I would get my refund within 10 business days. That was January 28th and it is now March 2nd. After 10 days I called for weeks, and they refused to answer the phone. When they finally answered I was told that I should have received it and that they will speak to their superior to see what happened. When I called again for an update, I was told that I would not be getting my money back and that there was some sort of mix up with my name which made absolutely no sense to me. I paid 90$ for a room I never even stayed in, for a motel that doesn't even stay open for 24hours. After telling me for more than a month I would get my refund they turned around and said that I wasn't and stole my money, claiming my refund went against cancellation policy. If that were true, then why was I told that I would be receiving a refund to begin with? DISGUSTING AND BEYOND UNPROFFESSIONAL. I reported this motel to the better business bureau, The Advertiser News North, and Sussex County Court for stealing my money and having misleading information online. My lawyer is reaching out to them as well and they aren't answering. I hope this review protects others from having a horrible experience with Sussex Motel.

Overall, it was a convenient option and very close to Mountain Creek, which made our trip much easier. Judy at the front desk was super nice and welcoming. The staff overall was friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The breakfast was good, and my kids especially loved being able to make their own waffles and choose what they wanted that was definitely a highlight for them! I really appreciated that the room had a microwave and fridge, which made traveling with kids much easier. The beds, sheets, and towels all seemed clean and comfortable. The only downside was that I wish the room had been a bit cleaner. We found some dust bunnies near the desk, and the bathroom lighting was very dark, which made it a little concerning after noticing the dust. Overall, it was a convenient stay with kind staff and good amenities, especially for families visiting Mountain Creek.

However I made sure to note that I would be traveling with my service dog when I booked and was told that there were complaints with me using the breakfast room. However I only used it once during the time I was there and only when it was empty. (There was a couple finishing up and leaving.) otherwise it always had people so I avoided it. When I explained that he was a service dog and I needed him with me, I was told "well he's still a dog" and was dismissed. So yea I couldn't use the breakfast room which made staying here pointless. I could've gone somewhere cheaper that didn't offer food. Other than that I was mostly in and out so can't really complain. Maybe about the random guys yelling and running in the halls at some 1-2am. The staff just needs to educate themselves a bit more regarding things like this. Because I couldve been a total b***h and explained that it was illegal to turn me away and blah blah blah but it honestly wasn't worth the fight and I just decided to check out early instead.
