My experience with DDM Heating and Air has been extremely unpleasant and left me with a large invoice that I never gave authorization for.
I called DDM in the middle of July to check on a noise my AC unit was making at my rental unit. As this is a rental unit, my tenant was present for this service appt. I was called by Dan at DDM and was informed that the noise was simply a piece of plastic on top. He did however suggest I have the unit cleaned because it was very "gross". At this point my unit was working fine.
Then a week later, the fan stopped working and the unit was no longer producing cold air. I called DDM and they went to the unit and apparently fixed it. I was not called and made aware of the fix or any issues that were found with the unit.
The unit worked for another week then the fan stopped working again. Again I called DDM to check on the unit. At this call, Dan informed me that at his previous visit, he discovered the switch was broken and that he simply "jammed it into place". He suggested that the switch was turned off. At this time, I asked if this is something I could fix and he said "well yeah. You could jam it up with a screwdriver but then you'd be dealing with the electricity." My father is an electrician so I know the dangers of electricity. So I told Dan to go look at it. He said he would send a technician to check it out and change the switch box.
I received an invoice last week for $500 for 3 hours of labor, a new switch and new motor. I was NEVER called and asked if I wanted to have this repair done. If I had been, we would probably have had the whole unit replaced. All I expected was a phone call for authorization of additional work.
When I called DDM this morning he said that it isn't there policy to get approval for these types of services. I pointed out that he called me a month earlier to up sell me for additional service on a completely functioning unit. Dan tried to tell me he did me a favor because my tenants would withhold rent if he hadn't fixed the unit so fast. My tenants made a point of saying to me that they hoped I wasn't getting charged much because no real work had been done.
During this call he laughed at my numerous times and spoke over me.
When I informed him, that while I will pay my bill in full, I would be contacting the Better Business Bureau and review DDM on Yelp. He said to "go ahead because those things are jokes."
The one thing that was very pleasant was that I received a call from the owner Mary apologizing for any confusion. She has been a pleasure to deal with at DDM. read more
