Moved here to San Antonio and didn't know where to go for my hair. I called DD and she said come over so she can see what she could do with it. I have very long super fine curly hair and a lot of it. I usually just put it in dread extensions or wear box braids because my hair will knot up and then can't do anything with it - so she looked at my hair and reassured me that she could help me. Not only did she help me take down the old braids that were stuck in my hair but she put in a new set of braids that looked amazing! They were super clean and tight, they lasted about 8weeks before I decided to take them down , not because they looked bad - but because my hair grows so fast. I had about 2 inches of new growth but her braids were still looking good- if my hair hadn't grown so quickly I'd probably still be wearing them. Very nice ladies. I called the day prior and made a morning appointment for box braids . Took a little over 6 hours . DD recommended a size to me since i told her i didn't want my hair bulky . DD did not braid my hair another lady and she did a great job ! I forgot to tell her not to braid my baby hairs so she did , but at the end she offered to take out the braids in the front to redo it but i declined . I called to make an appointment but texted the number with a photo of the size braids and length i wanted to get a price. I totally recommend them and will return ! read more

I had an awesome experience with DD! I got in touch with her via her cell phone and she quickly responded. I sent her pictures of my hair prior to my appointment and she assured me it was long enough for what I wanted. The lines of communication were open from the first time I spoke with her until the day of my appointment. She worked with me on the time and the price. I was a little late, which turned out to be good because she was a little late as well (family - which I totally understand) but when she arrived, they immediately got started and finished in no time. I was in a panic !! It was Sunday , my hair stylist was out of town for a family emergency & I didn't know what to do . A thread had broken in my sew in . I called several different places to see who could help me . Either they were booked or they couldn't perform "that service ". What did I do ? I remembered when in doubt turn to yelp. DD is very friendly. If she is going to be late she makes sure to call you well in advance so that you know, or if she is going to have someone else doing your hair she lets you know well in advance. Although I appreciate the last minute appointment for my 9 year old daughter to get corn rows for a camp she was attending after another stylist cancelled on me, I felt really taken advantage of. Not only did they charge me higher than the quoted price, the owner had one of her other workers do the braids and she was really challenged in doing braids in my daughters shoulder length hair. In the end, the braids were frizzy and looked several days old already! But again, we were in a bind. Will never go here again. read more

Awesome! DD and her staff are very friendly and they are great listeners. I come from GA where most of the briaders at African shops aren't very friendly and social DD's is the complete opposite. I've gotten micro braids both times and they have came out great : ) I'm trying the Senagalese twists next. read more

I had just relocated to the San Antonio area. And was in need of getting me and my daughter's hair braided for the summer. I thought I had done good research but I must have not done enough. Walked in to see about the salon itself and to be quoted a price for Senegalese twist. Saw a few pictures out of a plastic bag mind you, but the quality of work looked good. Asked about getting done on Friday was told she was full. Dee Dee did take my number down and said she would call me if she had any cancellations. I received a call 2 hrs later for next day appointment for 1:00 pm. Which I appreciated very much. Showed up 20 mins early for appointment still ended up waiting 1 1/2 hr before my child's head was started. Another 30 mins before I was placed in the chair . Before then seemed like the lady (sorry was never told her name) had an issue with doing my hair. I only say seemed due to the fact that they spoke mainly in their native tongue and a lot of eye rolling and sucking of the teeth.Two different lady's worked on my hair everyone knows when this happens you get to different outcomes of quality braids . While one stylist work was tight the others was loose. I was finally done 8 hours later and was told not to mess with them much. ???? I've had this style before and was able to style them numerous ways and they stayed in good condition. So to be told this after I paid was upsetting that just tells me for the price I paid ( over $250) your product has a very short life span. Add on the frequent breaks, the stylist talking about clients (F.Y.I just because we don't speak your language does not mean we can't tell when your talking bad about us).I will not be going back. read more

Had a horrible experience here. Although the they did not put my braids in, I paid them to take them down. The African lady that worked in me cut my hair out in addition to cutting the braids out. DD, the owner, was not at the shop at the time. I went home to was and blow dry and then called to tell her that my natural hair had been cut. DD proceeded to say that they didn't know how long my hair was. I went to the shop again with recent pictures of my natural hair. She refunded me my money. I have gone to DD african hair braiding twice. The first time my hair was flawless, and it grew out a lot. The second time I went to get twist, and when I started taking my twist out, I noticed my natural hair was coming out too! I did not know she used the JAM gel on my hair, which is like glue on natural hair. The majority of my hair came out after taking out those twist! I will NEVER go to this place again! They BROKE MY HAIR OFF!!!! and they are very rude and speak african so you cannot understand them, and the play stupid when you try to describe a style to them as well. Will not ever recommend. Save your money and invest at regular black hair shops!!!! Oh, and DD only accepts cash, so there is not a "paper trail", wish I had a before and after picture cause I would have surely sued the heck out of her and her shop!!! read more

Horrible experience. I had came in a few day before to get pricing for braides and to set up an appt. I even asked what form of payment I needed to bring and the girl said cash or credit would be fine. So I show up a few days later and there is one other girl in the shop getting her hair braided. The entire time she is braiding my hair she would stop when the other girl took a break to go work on the other girls hair while I just sat there. It was so annoying. Once she is finally done with my hair I go to give another girl there my card to pay and the other lady who was not there the first time i came in snaps at me that they only take cash. I told her about the other girl who told me otherwise and she snapped at me again no that's incorrect, cash only. I told her there's a gas station up the road I could leave my phone and id to go get cash and she snaps at me again stating no that's not going to work. She then proceeds to yell for the girl that told me they take credit card to ride with me to the gas station. It was the most awkward ride but the girl was apologetic and spoke about how she hates how the other lady spoke to her in front of customers. I'm assuming the other woman was the owner. She was so rude I will never go back to this place nor recommend it to anyone. read more
