Midweek dinner on what appeared to be a not-too-terribly busy evening. The service was lackluster, with a polite but inattentive young lady seeing to us. I ordered the Duck and Truffle Mac and Cheese, and found it good. Not great, but ok. I didn't eat much, and took the remainder (about two thirds) home. Upon heating it up for lunch the next day, I found two sharp bones in the dish. Given the fact that the duck meat appeared in small shredded pieces, I'd expect that the kitchen staff would have picked bones like these out. I'm really not feeling love for this place overall. Went for lunch with my work homie around 12:30 and it wasn't very busy, yet we still waited a good 10-15 mins before someone came back to the table to take our order. I had the Portobello mushroom quesadilla and he had the Carolina burger. Both came out about 10 mins later, and we scarfed them down. Tons of flavor in the queso and I would gladly get it again. Also had a good portion to it and not some kid size lunch knockoff. Burger was juicy af and he ate every bit. The popcorn on the table is a nice added extra that fills the gap btw ordering and food. Super clean and neat inside. The menu is rather extensive and I'm sure some of the items on there are the type to only be ordered a few times a year but I like the variety and things I haven't seen elsewhere.. aka the tator tot section. Excellent service by my waiter and hostess, an absolute pleasure and easy process while ordering. Ordered steak and tacos with my wife. Upon receiving our food, my wife complained that her tacos were ice cold, and I fully understand that mistakes happen. For what it's worth, my steak was excellent, but I had basically finished my food by the time the tacos were remade. I excused myself to the restroom, and walked past the kitchen. Im not fluent in Spanish but what I heard was some of the most offensive insults and slurs, followed by laughs and what sounded like someone running around inside. Aug 2023, I wanted to like this place because it is near the house and we have been here before. The Chocolate Egg Cream was delicious. However, I ordered two over easy eggs on a roll with crispy bacon. The roll was clearly a day old, not freshly delivered that morning because when I put the top roll onto the eggs the roll started to crumble apart and I could feel the hardness of the roll when I took my first bite. A fresh roll would not break apart. I have had many eggs on a roll at the Bagel Emporium in Tarrytown that was always fresh and never hard, they are delicious tasting. Honestly, my suggestion to the Manger running the place, don't give your customers day old rolls. Why not let the staff take home what is left over that evening or donate them to a food bank or church. The one positive thing about this place are the staff, they are hard workers, and friendly. read more

They were not particularly apologetic and made me wait without offering anything in compensation. My friend and I have been going to DD's most weeks for lunch or breakfast for several years now (since before the pandemic). We always have a great meal and great service. Today, however, my friend ordered pancakes and asked for "real" maple syrup. The server brought a small sealed jar, which she used. She later asked for another one and that was also brought in a small sealed jar. She never touched it. It remained sealed and when they cleared our table, she showed the young lady the syrup and said it wasn't opened (not wanting a perfectly good jar of syrup to go in the trash). When we got the bill, it was rather high. We then looked and saw that they had charged us for 3 cups of tea (we only had 2) and they also charged us $2.25 for each jar of syrup. My friend mentioned about the tea which they changed, and also explained that the syrup was unopened and unused. They refused to take the charge off. My friend said your bus person took it, so they handed her another one and said take it home. We were very angry that they would charge us for an unopened, still sealed (paper seal over the top) jar of syrup. It wasn't the $2.25 so much as their attitude toward some very good, long standing, now former customers. read more

This is not the first time I've been here, and most of my experiences were very good. However, based on today, I feel it is necessary to relate what happened as a warning to others. My wife and I came in for breakfast. Our waitress, whom we have never seen before, was lazy and had a bad attitude. She spent more time chatting with one of the other waiters than paying attention to her tables. We had to ask twice just to get a cup of coffee. We nicely requested cream and she said, "You didn't ASK for cream." We also had to ask twice for water. She never checked in after the food arrived, and we were never offered a coffee refill. Worst of all, her attitude cast a pall over the meal, making me feel very uncomfortable, which is not how you should feel when you go out, even if it's at a diner. The food is typically very good, and it still was today but with one notable exception. They have changed their sausage, and this one was gross. I did mention it to the hostess on the way out. When she asked how things were, I was honest. She apologized, but was in no position to take any action on things. It's unfortunate, but all it takes is one really bad experience to make you not want to go to a place any more, particularly if this waitress is still there. I'm sure the management won't care, because they do a bustling business. But for those of you who are considering whether or not to offer your patronage to DD's Diner, I suggest you look elsewhere. Their Mac and cheese is AMAZING. it comes in a huge cast iron skillet and the flavor is so tasty. We've had every single one of the mac and cheeses and we love it. So good. They have other great options as well, I've had Turkey clubs, pastrami sandwiches, waffles, all that good stuff. Everything is always good. Their service is great. Stopped here before the Great Pumpkin Blaze event. The menu was very different than the regular run of the mill diner. The menu has many gourmet sandwiches and dinners which included some duck dishes. I opted for the BiG Bite burger. It had my perfectly cooked as ordered well done burger which was still juicy and not a bit dry. They grind their own meat here for the burgers and you can certainly taste the freshness. This huge-had to be at least a 1/3 pounder burger was topped with both Swiss and American cheeses., grilled onions and mushrooms and included shredded lettuce and tomato. Served with a side of very tasty and perfectly fried French fries and a house made purple cabbage slaw. Au jus dipping sauce ( which could be more flavorful) and the best half of a deli pickle I have had in a while! The service was very good and the meal well worth the price. i was just told i could not bring my own maple syrup into the restaurant as per the sign on the door that says "no outside food or drink"! this would be the first restaurant EVER that has said i can't use my own high quality maple syrup, but instead must use one of inferior quality that comes with the meal. i can appreciate not bringing in items that would affect their profit, but bringing my own maple syrup, a condiment, would not affect the bill total in any way. so i went down the road to the colonial diner which is equally as good, has a more extensive menu especially when it comes to specials and has lower prices - bye bye dd's! read more

They just opened. The service was nice. The bacon is delicious. The coffee is very good. I asked for eggs over easy and they were too well done. This is a common mistake. There were a couple of other things wrong too but not anything unforgivable and they made it right quickly. There was a mean old man in the booth next to me who kept going on about how he sent his eggs back twice for not being well done enough but I believe he is just that type of pain in the ass. I'm truly hoping that service and quality will improve because it's a nicely renovated space and is convenient to the neighborhood. And so I'm wishing good things for DDs I'll weigh in again after they have a few months under their belts to see if service and quality of listening to customer instructions improves. The price is par with other diners around but DD's has a lot of work to do if they are to compete with the long standing places North and South of them. I guess what I'm trying to say is What are you going to bring DIFFERENTLY to stand out from your competition and keep from closing like the last several places in this spot? Trying way too hard, and forgetting the more important parts. They were out of two things on the specials menu at 7pm...not a good omen. My party tried four different things, none of which were anything to write home about, or even return for. The portions are small considering the prices. We were seated in some back left forgotten corner, with a waitress who was much less than attentive, not to mention lacking in personality. She couldn't even remember to fill up my water glass until being reminded a third time. No excuse either, as it wasn't overly crowded. The food was edible, but not terribly enjoyable. The shoestring french fries we're cold by the time they got to the table. Much of the food lacked flavoring, even when I ask for jalapenos on my sandwich, I got three 4/4 slices on the entire sandwich. They put up new lighting, and got new booths, which along with a new menu had alot of opportunity for greatness, but alas it failed. They're still very new, so I'll give them another chance in about a month. read more

I give them credit, this location has historically been a difficult void to fill, as MANY diners have come and gone here before DD's. With that being said, I really enjoyed my experience, the place has a new-age Americana diner feel to it, but the menu is fairly concise and it seems to offer classic fare, and some healthier, trendier options as well. I ordered the sweet potato pancakes (with sliced bananas on the side) and while it wasn't necessarily the most gracefully plated dish, I was really quite surprised by how delicious the pancakes were. The servers were attentive, they continually came over and offered refills on our waters and my coffee. The person at the register was also quite friendly and overheard me complaining about being cold (more so from being outside than it being chilly in the diner), and actually turned on the heat for me, a kind gesture!! Overall the portions, service, and prices were fair, I left full and satisfied with what I ate, so really no complaints. The experience was lit and I'm definitely going to come back and devour some more pancakes. read more
