Every single time, it's a hit. I usually get the Azteca Plate but I've had chimichangas, enchiladas, fajitas, and other combination plates. They have a queso appetizer that's really good to share. The chips and salsa are very good but I recommend asking for the mild, warm salsa it's super mild but goes well with the cheese and kids love it. The pricing is fair here and the service is always great. They refill waters, offer more chips and salsa, and food and drink wait times are always respectable. They have taco Tuesdays which are excellent and a brunch buffet that I can't wait to try. Definitely a great sit down family Mexican hit with authentic Spanish decor and a very large tequila bar on display. I also pick up on my way home from work and it is still fire. Came here on a whim because I saw online they were having a karaoke night on Saturday and we arrived just in time before the kitchen closed at 10pm! They have karaoke every first Saturday of the month til midnight, and it was busy. The waiters at the restaurant almost didn't let us in because we were with our infant baby and the only side that was open was the bar and karaoke area that has slot machines. But luckily, one of the karaoke hosts recognized us and we were able to dine in and I was able to perform once! Our baby doesn't mind loud noises and fell asleep an hour into being there despite the hustle and bustle of Saturday night karaoke. While I was excited to perform and sing, I made sure to bring my appetite! When we arrived, we sat in the far back near the restrooms. It took a while for someone to take our order, so we flagged down one of the busboys, and he was wonderful. He brought us two orders of chips and salsa as we waited for the bartender to take our order. My husband and I shared the Campana Combo plate which was higher in price on the menu compared to their online website. The Campana Combo plate included a beef taco, beef chile relleno, chicken enchilada, and bistec a la mexicana with a side of rice and beans. We also ordered a sopapia as dessert! My husband is Mexican and he's told me about sopapias as an inside joke we have, but we didn't know they existed! It was a light, fluffy puff pastry drizzled with honey and came with a side of strawberries and jam. My husband also ordered two modelos with limes and I had a coke with two refills in between singing. The coke was a little flat. Altogether, the price was $45.37 for our meal. I am glad they were willing to let us dine in despite bringing our baby along. He's gotta come everywhere with us - we've got no other choices! Karaoke was very fun. Online it says every first Saturday of the month from 9-12am, so next time I'll try to come earlier! The karaoke spots fill up fast, and you've got to tell the host/DJ your song and name to get in line. One of the waiters, Peter, was a regular singer and he was wonderful to listen to! It was some of the tastiest Mexican food I've tried. Next time, I would love for the chile relleno to come on the side without sauce so I could taste the crispiness of the batter! Ambiance had some .....interesting characters who came out to watch, the singers were fun and sang a variety of music genres, and the crowd was supportive... lots of high fives and claps were given to me after I performed. The restaurant has specials on certain weekdays and has a sign showcasing the latest special. We visited on a fall Friday evening, after receiving a recommendation from a friend. We were welcomed by a friendly host and the service overall was very good. The chips were lightly seasoned, a nice change of pace from the norm! The salsa was mild and flavorful. The margs were strong, get the large pitcher! The enchiladas mexicanas presented three sauces, the red was my favorite but the white paired very well with the side of beans. The fried mahi was of the best tasting I've ever had, delicious with a perfect crunch! This pescatarian could have been fooled that the fried mahi was chicken. This authentic Mexican food place absolutely lives up to its hype. From the decor when entering in to the separate bar and seating area room. The food itself was delicious. I got the mahi mahi tacos and usually when I've had fish tacos they don't live up to the hype but these did. The mango sauce was out of this world and I've been craving this since I've had it. I'llI'll start by saying I've been here many times and usually have a great time. However we were with a group of friends & family to celebrate my birthday this past weekend, and what happened is completely uncalled for, absolutely disgusting and disrespectful. A woman who works at the front counter apparently showed my picture to a bartender asking if I was the one celebrating my birthday and then saying I would probably go into the bar later and went on to say what a c**t I was. First of all, I don't know this woman. It was extremely unprofessional. We are paying customers and have been here many times before. I have done nothing to deserve this kind of treatment. I'm not one to complain and didn't even complain years ago when my 10 year old was accidentally served alcohol by a new waitress, as we chalked it up to a mistake. This instance however, was not a mistake. But again this is completely uncalled for. At this point in time, I don't feel comfortable bringing my friends and family here if this is how the employees treat people. We came to celebrate my birthday and the comments made by a staff member ruined the evening. I'm truly disheartened that a place my kids and I love would treat guests like that. This is our neighborhood Mexican spot with a bar. It's been here forever and it's good comfort food. The salsas are good and the nachos are fantastic with a margarita. It's not high end dining. It's having a long day and want to eat something tasty and have a drink dining. Went in today to pick up my weekly order of a huge salsa and chips for home and an older couple was absolutely ripping apart the waitress over too much sugar in their dressings. From where I could see, the poor woman had already brought them three different kinds, including one that she said, had no sugar in it per the cooks. They would not have it, and kept making a huge stink, telling her they have been coming to the restaurant longer than she was alive, etc. So I stepped forward told them to get out and find someone else to harass. They were just awful and the staff handled it so well, doing their best in a situation where they just couldn't win. If you are diabetic to the point where you said a dressing could kill you, it's probably time to go home, or at the very least bring your own dressing. This is not that kind of restaurant. Just eat your food and be cool! Anyway, this is our spot to go for good eats and drinks. The staff are great and the food is reliable. I can recommend it all the way. read more

De Campana is a go to for our family. My parents started going back in the 1980s and it has stood the test of time. The service is great , we were frequently checked on by waiter and bus boys. Our most recent trip was on Friday 12/8 and my wife ordered the Chimichanga, my 3 year old got a beef taco, my 16 year old daughter got steak tacos, My 6 year old son ordered cheese quesadillas, and I ordered the beef flautas. This has been my go to Mexican food spot since I was a kid. The memories of the many family dinners is probably why I keep coming back, because the food is just average and the service even worse. I can definitely see why the place gets the bad reviews based on the service. There aren't many times that I can recall walking out thinking, wow great service. In fact, most of the time you feel like you're bothering your waitstaff for the additional salsa or accompaniment needed. My dinner last night I was charged for 4 margaritas instead of the 2 that we had. Having to correct these errors on top of the mediocre service can be frustrating. The waiter automatically giving you the largest drink to up-charge the bill can also rub you the wrong way. The margaritas themselves I can definitely say have to be one of the worst around. No amount of salt can make these drinks taste any better. I'd love to see this place break the mold and start providing actual lime juice instead of the gallon jug of mix that sits openly on the bar counter. I find myself getting the same thing every time I come. The chicken fajitas never really fail. This time it was fajitas for 2 which basically doubles the portion size. They are good, but nowhere in the realm of great. Although a nice point was brought up when reaching for the last tortilla that they could have at least included an even amount. Waiting for additional tortillas can be a pain here, as the service is never really spot on as mentioned. The amount of sour cream given was clearly only for one person. To our surprise we were charged for the additional sour cream that we probably should have received anyways. Most of the people that come here are regulars. Probably for the same reason I keep coming back, the fond memories. Food is mediocre, service is terrible. We found this hidden gem last year, however somehow I missed to write my opinion about it and I am very sorry about that. You need to put this restaurant on your list. List to try, list to visit, list for fave Mexican or whatever list just do it. It is worth . In between Elmhurst and Bensenville, on Grand, there is small plaza and there you can find this amazing restaurant. There is plenty of parking space and small patio for upcoming summer nights. You will be greeted and seated right away, and almost immediately served with cold water and tasty salsa and fresh tortillas chips. Salsa is one of my favorites, it is made in the house, chunky, spicy but not too much, very flavorful one. Their menu have a lot to offer and everything that we ordered and try it is perfect. Perfectly spicy, acidic, sweet and savory. I made my friends drive from the city for this food, isn't that enough to say?!:) If you love cheesssyy, warm, stretchyyy app, order it. You will thank me later. They made it from cheese and touch of salsa and it is perfectly shareable app, or dont share we will not judge you. Our fave soup is Chicken and tortilla soup. And we went few days in a row just for soup. Creamy avocado, crunchy tortilla strips, plenty of chicken. So far we had, hmm.. steak (perfectly seasoned, juicy and tender) , fish tacos (best one I had with crazy good salsa), chicken flautas( crunchy but tender and juicy inside) , burritos few of them( all of them tasty depending on your mood but try one with seasoned pork wrapped in three tortillas with red salsa( perfection)), tamales!! Ah tamales! This is a place where we started to looooove tamales. I've tried them here and there hoping that will find flavor for me but i gave up bc I just didn't like them. A very sad day ... It appears Covid has effected this business and I no longer recommend it nor will I be returning. I've been a customer for 30+ years ! However I don't know what's happened since the pandemic .... Change of ownership or management? New cooks ? The foods become bland and tasteless. Their salsa was always great ! They had both spicy and mild versions available. Now just one salsa very bland and resembling diced tomatoes from a can. Our burritos and combo plates were also bland. Not terrible just not good. I've been going to De Campana since they first opened in the 80's with my parents. We always loved it! Fast forward to the other night when I took my husband and kids there for the first time. My dad was with us, too. Dad asked for something they way they used to make it years ago. They did it and it was great! We had appetizers, full meals, drinks and dessert. Went to pick up some grub on a Friday night. I've been to de Campana probably about 50 times over the years. Always thought it was a very good restaurant, never disappointed me. However on my recent visit I feel like they updated the menu or something because something tasted different. I got the Bistek a la Mexicana which I have probably had 10-15 times from Campana over the course of my life. Holy crap it was good. Their food was always good, but never this good! Best damn Bistek Mexicana I've ever had. Probably one of the best Mexican dishes I've ever had. Other than that, I was picking up food and the pickup service was great. Even after ordering with corn tortillas my steak tacos came with flour tortillas and when I asked the server he said those were corn . I want to start off by saying that my husband and I came here about once or twice a month and never had an issue. But a few weeks ago, we went to dinner with two other couples on a Saturday night. It was busy, but not so busy where we weren't seated right away. We got there about 6:10 pm and probably placed our order at about 6:25. All of us are enjoying our chips and salsa, along with a few margaritas and beers, we even had the local "mariachi" sing for our table. Then at about 7:40, we realized that our food has still not arrived. We noticed that it had slowed down and the people who sat down after us were already finishing up their meals and getting ready to leave. At about 7:50, our waiter comes to the table and informs us that our order had "disappeared" and that he needs to take our order again. Really? In the almost an hour and a half, you are just noticing now that our order never made it to the kitchen? We gave him our order and expressed that we should be at least compensated for another round of drinks. No kidding, the waiter laughed at us and walked away. I then went to front and asked for the manager to come to our table. It was about five minutes later when the manager arrives (it's about 8:10) we mention about the ordering mishap and that from the time we ordered and the time we re ordered, we never got refills on our drinks or chips, or even a courtesy check in. Of course, right as we finish explaining the situation, our food finally arrives. The manager didn't even seem bothered by the situation at all and his response was "why don't you eat your food and we can talk after". Not even an apology. Completely unprofessional. The compensation we got from this was a lousy 20% off (which covered the tip) and what's even worse the food was lousy and was clearly made and plated in a hurry. By the time we left it was 8:50. Needless to say, we will not be going back, which is unfortunate because we really enjoyed this place. read more

We decided to eat an early dinner around 4 pm and was surprised to see a few families already eating. Their menu was pretty extensive with enchiladas, burritos, combo plates, steaks, seafood and everything in between. I ordered the Campana plate ($13.95) which comes with quite a bit of food: one beef chile relleno, a hard taco, chicken enchilada and some stewed beef with rice and beans. Out of everything on the plate, the tender chunks of beef with tomatoes and onions were easily the best. I haven't been to a lot of Mexican places since my move form Texas because let's face it, there's nothing better than Tex-Mex but I must admit that this place was pretty darn close.
