Is this place even legit? I called to get two 5 gallon, (20Lb) propane tanks filled, one was a little less than half full the other one was approx. 3/4 full. I figure go right to the propane source and get it done. Turns out it was a joke! The guy on the phone says it will be $20.00 per tank no matter how much is used. Only because "we don't have a gauge" I told him my situation and he still said $40.00 for both. Really no gauge..?? just think if the doctor said we cant take your blood pressure.. we don' have a gauge. Gas station says it'll be $100.00.. we don't have a gauge. The tire shop says all tires are filled randomly.. we don't have a gauge Water department and gas company say that'll be $1,00.00 this month.. we don't have a gauge! How long has this place been in business and they "don't have a gauge? How long does it take for a business in the propane industry to purchase a gauge? Who actually trusts this business to fill their residential tank properly? Do yo really trust them? How much are they paying? Anyone looking to get propane bottles filled at the actual going price go to the Shell Gas Station on Washington St. & Payran or go to the Gs Mart at the end of baywood drive. I just signed on with De Carli's, so I can't talk about how good they are at delivering propane when they say they will, or how their prices compare. But given how great the customer service has been so far, and judging by other reviews, I have confidence they will turn out to be just as good as advertised. After Amerigas left me high and dry (along with dozens if not hundreds of my neighbors), I started calling other propane providers in my area. De Carli's was the fourth one on the list. The other three couldn't or wouldn't come out to swap my tank before I ran out of propane. Alex De Carli said he could do it in a day -- and he did. Eddie, his delivery guy, was extremely competent and creative in pulling my old tank out of a very tight and hard-to-reach location and putting in the new one. The people who answered the phone are nice and competent; they call you back when they say they will. And unlike Amerigas, a crap $8 billion national company that doesn't give a #### about its customers, De Carli's is both local and clearly cares. I'm glad I found them. read more

I have not given a five star review to anyone for year's. I would like to thank the fast efficient work they did with a pipe problem that was not their problem but they helped tons in getting it fixed. Their installer really was great pleasant and knowledgeable. I have noticed that many people that have in the past used PG&E for gas do not know that the have to change the orifice of their stoves for propane. You have to remember when buying an appliance that will run on propane to have the unit outfitted for propane. You will have a water heater or stove or heater that will not operate or operate in a dangerous way. Great Company wish them the best. read more

Okay, first and foremost.. Amerigas quoted us at 2.99 per gallon. We just paid $4.50 per gallon with De Carli's. I asked then if they could base out average usage on 2.5% per day (which has been our average in the past two days) what our bill will be. The woman said I wasn't making sense, and the man said her 'couldn't' give me an average price. I just paid $700 for the past month, and the woman said that looks like an average bill and she isn't surprised to see this. You guys, we hear out 900 sq ft upstairs and out water heater ... $700 per month? I have never in my life paid this much for propane. They also REFUSE to refund you any unused gas, so you're basically forced to pay this astronomical price. The only reason we used this crook of a company is because this was the tank that was in the property. The man was (an old man in billing based in his voice) so argumentative, would inly answer my simple question with condescending remarks. Based on customer service alone, I'd rather pay $5 per gallon to a company who treats you like a person. WHAT A JOKE if a company. The guy was mad that we learned they are scamming people. We are literally walking to every neighbor and telling them to switch to Americas. Even with the hook up fee, they bill is still going to be cheaper. Since my last review I have gotten good response and service from them. Alex and team have helped by replacing the old tank. And next they are going to move it. So far I have to say that DeCarli's Propane has delivered outstanding service! I am just at the beginning of using DeCarli's for my propane service in Bodega Bay. I decided a year ago to switch propane distributers. DeCarli's was highly recommended to me by my property manager. I absolutely trusted her opinion as she deals with many homes in this area. Over the past year I have spoken a several times with Alex DeCarli. He is very knowledgeable, courteous and professional. He is also very upfront. I had a large tank (289 gal) , and it was filled up a year ago by the other company. I felt I was way overcharged. I worked with Alex to determine the best timing for me to switch. Alex clearly explained the process and steps to make this happen. I wanted to let the tank go down in level before changing propane companies. But, as I started renting my home out in the Spring, I was concerned about getting the level down enough and making certain I wouldn't run out of propane. Additionally, I didn't want to lose out on the propane that I had already purchased. The supplier I had WOULD NOT give me credit for unused propane. That is a lot of money going to waste! Alex indicated that DeCarli's would credit me for the gallons that I had remaining in the tank when they did the swap. Wow! DeCarli's is going 'above and beyond' to provide this credit to me for the unused gallons in my tank. DeCarli's called me in advance (a week before and the day of) to indicate the time when they would arrive; they arrived at the time they said they would! The actual tank swap was amazing! My home is right on Highway 1 in Bodega Bay, and traffic is non-stop. This is 2 lane highway, and has power lines right overhead. Alex and his worker, Ricardo, were absolutely amazing in removing my old tank, and placing in their tank. They are taking my tank back to their business site to drain it, and will then bring back that tank to my yard. Once the new tank was installed, of course they put in the time to do all the necessary pressure tests, checks and relit the pilot lights. Before leaving they made sure that every appliance in my home that is run off propane was working smoothly. Ricardo even helped me with something else that was totally unrelated to this propane tank swap. Such customer service !! Amazing!! I without reservation, recommend DeCarli's for your propane needs. Yesterday I found out I needed to have one of my propane tanks re-certified. I was suggested to go here for that service and I am glad I did. I chose next day pick up since I was in no rush. When I came in the next morning at opening time, everything was ready and it took no time at all to get my tank. Everyone was very nice and helpful. DeCarli-RUDE accountant. Just spoke on the phone to the nastiest person who has been with company for years. Charged us for checking gas to propane connection on a new stove. We questioned a bill received and were met with rude arrogance and should not be in charge of customer service. This person yelled at us for asking and tried to brush us off & hang up on us. We have been with them for 35 years and have gone through all their over-charges in the past whereas lawsuits were filed and customers such as us had to be paid back. Our credit was between $5,000 /$6000. check your bills!!! The only reason we stay with them is for "JENS". He is the driver that has been with them for years and he is a very nice person. Shoddy delivery, unprofessional customer service, and crooked billing practices are just a few of the highlights you can expect from De Carli's. It is unfortunate that most customers inherit this business when they move, there is no easy way out since the propane tank is owned by De Carli. So, much like the DMV, being efficient or pleasant is not a concern of theirs. They have you. Unlike the DMV, however, which at least has some kind of government accountability, De Carli's is a Wild West of shady dealings. They refuse rental customers a regular billed account, charging your credit card directly. Apparently renters cannot be trusted. They also make you pay for a full tank when you open your account, regardless of what is in the tank (and regardless of the fact that you can never actually put 150 gallons of propane in a 150 gallon tank, for example). They are supposed to credit you whatever is left in the tank when you terminate your account (if you are ever so lucky to be able to get out of De Carl's evil clutch). That's the idea--but in practice this almost never happens and requires a huge effort, threats of lawsuits, and endless calls to a supremely rude receptionist. Just as incing on the cake, during my five years a prisoner of De Carl's I don't think there was a single propane delivery that came without me having to first call and tell them the tank was almost empty. They insisted we were on a regular schedule but they must have been using a very strange calendar indeed. The only real question about De Carl's Propane is whether their mishandling of accounts is a ploy, that they hope to profit by obfuscation, or if they are truly the inept mess they put forward to the public. This company delivers on time, but bills extremely late (in my experience sometimes 3 months late) and has an inefficient system for regulating gas usage. What the field employes have in braun, they lack in brains. For them to know how much gas you used during a given period, they have to fill up the tank to the top. However, they will not fill up (to measure gas usage) and lock the gas tank when you move out without charging you a 75$ fee-even if they are already in your yard and don't need to make a special trip. This means that when the new tenant moves in they are using the gas that you paid for until they open an account. The company has no way to know who used that gas, you, or the new resident. You might be charged for all the gas the new resident uses until/if they fill up the tank or go with a different service. Further, this company take MONTHS to return your deposit and reimbursement for the gas left in the tank. Your choice is to pay the 75$ fee and hope they get there before the new tenant moves in and uses up all your gas, or, lock the tank yourself and remove the line (then they will charge you 85$ for a re-pressurizing fee). Finally, They owe me a 250 $ deposit for the tank (which they know is still there and undamaged) and reimbursement for 40% of 150 gallons of gas in the tank. It is now the middle of January (I moved out in August) and they still have not payed me back despite multiple calls to their office. I am about to take this company to small claims court for my money, to dispute the charges on my credit card, and to report them to the Better Business Bureau. They seem to be running a ponzi-scheme and using my deposit money to pay other bills...or something. We're basically stuck with De Carli's as they own our tank. Otherwise we would certainly try our luck elsewhere. The drivers that come to fill our tank are very nice but they have the most disorganized office I've ever encountered. They can never seem to tell us when our delivery will come, can never confirm whether we're on a driver's schedule or not, can't tell us how to get put on a regular delivery schedule, how much we owe them from a previous delivery (bills sometimes come in the mail, but sometimes not). ETC. And much of the time the person handling your call is rude to boot, though I've been pleasantly surprised a few times recently. De Carli's really needs to focus more on ORGANIZATION and CUSTOMER SERVICE. read more

I used De Carli's from 1997 until early 2016 . I received an invoice in February 2016 stating that I had failed to pay a number of invoices dating back to 2007. During those years I never received a statement saying I was behind on my payments. I have complete records from my bank showing payments for all bills received during those years. When McPhails took over the service I found that my Propane tank was not properly installed and was out of date. De Carli's never informed me of that situation. I finally gave up on Amerigas after trying to get our annual delivery for over 6 weeks and spending countless hours on hold with customer service. I wish there were negative stars to express the frustration and exasperation I have gone through trying to settle a bill and get reimbursed for a full tank of gas. After leaving four messages in one month and writing two letters pleading for a response, I get nothing but and a continuous bill they send me every month, without fail, with a monthly penalty, Alex is a gem but everyone else I has been rude and unresponsive . I have never in my life written a bad review here and, as a small business owner myself, I am especially sensitive to the challenges. I live in Tomales and rely on propane for heat. Years ago, I was offered a great deal through a company called Pro-Frame, but they were bought by Amerigas. Since then, my service has dropped through the floor. Several times I've come home to a cold house because the tank is empty. Re-lighting the pilot is a pain. This commercial 400-500 gallon tank, I share with the restaurant next door. An empty tank impacts his business. He suggested DeCarli, and we made the switch. I AM VERY SATISFIED WITH THEIR SERVICE. This is a nearly 1/2 century family-owned business. One of the sons, Alex, came out personally for the install. I was at work when he arrived, so I gave him instructions for entry into my house. Alex did a GREAT JOB. I got home from work, and the pilot on the heater had gone out. I called Alex, he arrived within 15 minutes, bled the lines, solved the problem, and did not leave until everything worked perfect. He is a friendly, amicable guy, and clearly proud to be, with his brother, taking over the family business. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND DECARLI'S. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED WITH THEIR SERVICE. Awful bunch of crooks! Avoid using them if you can, or if you "inherit" them with a rental, get rid of their tank and hire McPhails instead. Totally inept and rude. Twice witnessed and god knows how many other times, the De Carli driver filled my neighbor's tank instead of ours and left us the bill for the day because they're so disorganized and then tried to give us this absurd giant bill for thousands!! 2 years later to make up for their total inability to keep any clear records! Excellent service and great people. We have used DeCarli for 13 years now. We have never been out of gas and the system they installed (tank, new underground gas lines to house, and regulators) have all worked without an issue. When one of the pressure regulators finally did need replacing, they came out the next day and did the work for free. The driver has never damaged anything backing in and out or running the hoses to the tank. They come and go without so much as a peep. I also found their rates competitive on the few times I looked at solicitations from others. Thank you. read more

What a horrible company!! I established an account over the phone two years ago and made their required $200 deposit to cover against future purchases. As it ended, I never purchased anything from them and in July 2011 asked that my account be closed and my deposit returned. Three phone calls produced the same result. I was told, yes my deposit would be returned but deposit refund checks were only signed by the owner, Angela DeCarli and she was very busy. Three months later having not received a thing, I sent a written demand letter.........no reply. I have now filed a small claims action that will be heard Dec. 15, 2011. During one conversation I was told by an employee, sorry our hands (staff members) are tied. Another told me, I'm so sorry, but this is not a good company. This Company really is bad news. read more

These people are horrible. The admit they owe us almost $400 in a return deposit but just refuse to return it - months later. We filed in small claims court and are talking to the attorney general. Apparently, there are close to 50 + people in the same boat NOW who knows what happened before. For those of you inclined to take action. If you file in small claims court they have to come to where you reside so I feel glad that I am now dragging them down to San Diego. They settled a class action matter dealing with false billing on the meters. For some reason, even though they admit and sent me the accounting records they seem to believe they are entitled to hold on to our deposit. And refused to even call back until I threatened litigation and found a person to talk to but he has no authority to even send a fedex. read more

I had been filling my propane tanks at Di Carli's in Petaluma for about 30 years. I needed a new tank so I bought one from them even though the cost was high. When I finally went to use the tank the valve would not turn. I finally got it to open using a large wrench with great difficulty. I returned to Di Carli to fill the other tank and mentioned the problem. They seemed disinterested. When the new tank finally was empty I tried to turn off the valve with a wrench and the knob broke. I called the tank manufacturer and they offered to replace the tank. They said I had to return it to where I bought it. I called Di Carli and was told they were on lockdown and someone would get back to me. Nobody ever did. I just discovered Shamrock in Cotati. It's a better location for me and the people seem to care. My tank is now fixed and full and I'm a happy Shamrock customer. Anybody want my Di Carli punch card? read more

Unbelievable! I was blown away from the beginning. This place is such a racket. They literally want your social, bank account, everything personal just to set up a propane account? I mean, you HAVE to do business with them, because it is their tank, so you have no choice. Plus, we had to put down a $200 deposit just to get started. I called other local propane dealers and they ask for a $0 deposit. I told them I didn't understand why I needed to put down a deposit when you have my credit card on file to charge. What am I going to do? We need heat, we would HAVE to pay the bill. They didn't budge. The secretary there is rude, everytime I have called. I called them a few weeks later to make sure we weren't on a regular delivery to just be filled up whenever they were in the area and the secretary apparently put this in my file. Well, today I get a text from my wife that they just came out and filled our tank up. I called them and all they could say is it was "driver error" and "we can't take the propane back." I told them that we weren't budgeted for a several hundred dollar transaction right now and they can't just fill up our tank on a whim. They could do nothing. I got to speak to a "manager" about it later and she tried to crack jokes and basically was saying "live in the moment" and "lighten up", which I was pretty offended by and this didn't seem like something to laugh about. THey filled our tank up without notice and expect us to pay a couple hundred for it? This is ludicrous. The manager is now calling me back to figure out a payment plan on propane I never ordered. Does this make sense? I would say avoid dealing with De Carli's, but if you have a De Carli's tank you are screwed. Unless you want to get a crane in there and switch out the tanks. Stay away! Terrible company! Only send you a bill right before Christmas every year. Let your tank run dry. Fired them in March last year and told them I would pay after they got the tank and sent a bill. They just picked up the tank (1 year later) and then told us we had 7 days to pay the bill or they would "come after us" and "we know where to find you" verbal threats. They have been sued before and lost a class action for incorrect measuring, leaking tanks and overcharging. Try Kemgas! They are great! read more
