Met a friend here to chat about an upcoming project, and I have to say--what a great suggestion. This local coffee shop is outstanding. From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by how much larger it is on the inside than it looks from the outside--plenty of space to sit, relax, or get some work done. I ordered a latte, and it was absolutely amazing--smooth, rich, and perfectly crafted. They also offer small bites and food options, making it a great spot for more than just coffee. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with a vibe that makes you want to stay a while. The only downside? Parking. It's all street parking, and if you drive a truck the size of mine, finding a spot can be a bit of a challenge. But honestly, it's worth the extra effort. This place is a Troy Hill gem and I'll definitely be back.

Oh so glad this place is within walking distance for me. Finally I can live out my dream of taking Sunday morning walks to the local coffee spot. This will be the perfect place for it. Cozy little coffee shop offering small bites to eat, juices, smoothies, and of course coffee. They have a wall of goodies featuring their own coffee and loose leaf tea, coffee supplies like tumblers/mugs, bean grinders, French press, kettles, and even chemex. They also other fun stuff like candles, fancy chocolate bars, honey, maple syrups, cocktail mixers, and even sardines. Yes, I said sardines. Plenty of seating and things to look at. The interior is beautifully decorated with art and wallpaper. Great spot to grab a drink and get some work done. Staff were friendly and ready to serve the many costumers walking through the door. I got a chai latte and vanilla latte. I also got their last slice of chai tea cake. Both drinks and the cake were delicious and very flavorful. You can tell the chai is actually brewed and not just some syrup to mimic the taste. The vanilla latte wasn't overly sweet like some coffee spots make. Can't wait to walk back down to this awesome cafe!

I'd yet to visit since this location was Pear & Pickle (it's been a minute!), but was delighted to find that De Fer Troy Hill has preserved the same cozy, neighborhood cafe feel. I stopped in mid morning on a Wednesday after seeing a client in the area and ordered a cold brew and breakfast english muffin (eggs baked with parmesan, bacon, hickory smoked cheddar, sun-dried tomatoes, chipotle garlic sauce, buttermilk chive english muffin). Based on the freshest homemade quality of my order, I think that any choice off the menu would be sure to satisfy! I would love to try their weekend waffles and basic cocktail offerings. This was the perfect stopping off point to get some remote work done and recharge. Thank you, De Fer!

I stopped by here last Sunday with my wife for our morning coffees. We have been to the De Fer coffee location in the strip district before but never to the one in Troy Hill. The inside of this coffee shop is massive and is actually much bigger than it looks from Rialto Street. The floors are made from worn hardwood and then the walls are decorated with lots of bright and colorful art. In the main area there were a couple of display cases full of food and then a bunch of merchandise and coffee for sale. Beyond that there were multiple rooms with plenty of seating but since I have young twins, I enjoyed the one which had all sorts kids books from Sesame Street to Pete the Cat and even Llama Llama. For our coffees on this morning both my wife and I went with coffees from their specialty section. I chose the salted butterscotch latte while my wife went with the peppermint mocha. Then some of their food looked good too and so we added a ham and cheese hand pie as well. My coffee from here ended up being pretty good as the coffee tasted freshly roasted and then a hint of the butterscotch came though. What I didn't get was the salt which was honestly fine. As for the handpie, wow, was it good. First off it was stuffed full of ham and cheese and then the crust itself was flaky while the herbs and seasoning on the exterior was tasty. Then there was also a sauce of sorts inside which may have been a bechamel which was also very tasty. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. I really enjoyed the handpie I had here and was also impressed with all of the children's books.

Let me start out by saying, my mom used to dip my pacifier in espresso. I am half Italian and Half Cuban. Coffee is literally in my DNA. I am a tad bit of a coffee snob. This place is hands down one of my all-time favorites. I have been to all of De Fer's locations and this one opened up down the street from my new house! BLESSING the neighborhood with some real good stuff. The coffee is top tier goodness. Each coffee spot has their own thing that I love and order every time, here my go-to drink (and only here will I get this because they ruined all others for me) is a Mocha Latte. The chocolate is so damn delicious. Perfect amount of bitterness to the chocolate, balanced so exquisitely to the coffee. It is really perfection in a cup. My boyfriend didn't think he liked chocolate beverages and he was like "WOW, that's REAL good!". The baked goods are always a hit too! I loved the chocolate chip cookies. This time we tried the banana pecan muffiin and it was amazing! It was spiced kind of like a pumpkin pie but different, if that makes sense?! Crunchy in all the right places. Super tasty. The breakfast sandwich sounds pretty tasty too, will definitely be back to try that soon! Thank you, De Fer for being in Troy Hill!

After walking around the neighborhood, this one had seating, so we went inside. First, I'll say the coffee we tried was pretty good - a cappuccino and a brown sugar cinnamon latte. The barista asked "for here or to go" and the drinks still came in a paper cup anyway despite us saying "for here". I really enjoy having a coffee in an actual glass/mug when I say "for here". The ambiance was a bit confusing... not really sure what they were going for in the space, things were a bit choppy and thrown together. Kinda felt like you were in someone's garage with cluttered items on rickety shelves behind the counter. Our barista was very nice, but an awkward moment occurred when they were ringing us up - barista asked for a tip but then told us not to put the tip on the credit card because the owner steals from them. We felt this was a little uncomfortable and gave some unwelcoming energy. We also tried a Nutella croissant, which was very good! I think this shop has a lot of potential with some changes to service and decor.

LOVED our dinner at this place…read more We came here for dinner while visiting Pittsburgh. The first thing that struck me was the interior decor. Very industrial and moody with an open kitchen/preparation area that adds some intrigue. I do like to see the happenings of what's going on as someone with zero attention span. Service was excellent. George was fantastic. He kept a close eye on us without being overbearing. He anticipated what we might need so we didn't spend one second waiting to order anything. The menu is not endless or overwhelming which, presumably, allows them to focus on the items that are listed. I have decision panic so it was kinda nice to have less things to choose from. They asked if there were any allergies or dietary restrictions so I mentioned my vegetarianism. George went through the menu and pointed out the vegetarian options including what seems like it is vegetarian but isn't. They had TWO vegetarian entree options and fortunately the non-mushroom one was something I probably would have ordered anyway: pesto with walnuts, arugula, and a very generous amount of grated cheese. To start, I ordered the Brussels sprouts whichc I was warned had fish sauce. This was fine but nothing that blew me away. GF, on the other hand, loved this. GF ordered the wedge which was brought to our attention as vegetarian with the bacon on the side, which was her request. We ended up sharing both, a large part of that was because hers came out first and I couldn't wait but I'm so glad because the wege was FANTASTIC. The dressing? holy fuck pure ecastasy. The wedge was more like a filet shape which was much easier to eat. Who decided on the wedge shape anyway? The lettuce was so fresh and crisp and went wonderfully with that orgasmic dressing and breadcrumbs. Back to my pasta. Also delectable. Noodles were al dente. The sauce was creamy and packed that pesto umami flavor. The walnuts were a really nice contrast in texture. Everything about it absolutely fucking slapped. GF ordered the mushroom entree which came served on a bed of barley which, don't mind if I do, had a few forkfuls to "sample" for "my review". Again, so fucking good. Because it was my birthday, George provided a dessert (yuzu maybe?) that was served inside a meringue-esque igloo, creamy perfect balance of sweet and tart custard with some berry business underneath. Wonderful. I almost forgot their spectacular cocktails! Holy shit, literally they have a CORN CHIP cocktail that I could not pass up. It comes with two massive cornchips on top of a flavored foam. When you bring the glass up to sip, the cornchips are right in front of your nose and their aroma sets the stage for the drink which was STRONG. It wasn't as corn chip forward as I expected but I understand that flavor is probaly hard to create. For my second drink, I ordered the blue one which was refreshing, light, and really good. GF ordered a spritz which was gorgeous "it was good". For second round, I picked out some uranium thing that was very cucumbery, GF says, "it was good". I just read it outloud to her. "it's true!" Fantastic meal at a great place.
