California Coffee Bar is a nice little coffee shop in Brighton Heights just off of the Ohio River Boulevard. It's got nice coffeehouse vibes to it and serves a great selection of coffees, smoothies, and sandwiches. I'd gotten the Denny's Fruit Bowl. Ingredients and the cream and honey mixed in were all very fresh and tasted great. (I had it to go and leveled it up with cinnamon, nutmeg and protein powder, but I promise there was nothing wrong with it as it was made!) The matcha latte was also refreshing. Such a cute & cozy coffee shop! I went for the first time on a double date recently. We arrived at 11 am on a Saturday and I was surprised to find it wasn't busy at all. This was good for us though because we were able to snag a table for 4 tucked away in the back! I love the loft-style layout. I got a hot cookie butter latte with oat milk and it was delish! My fiancé got an iced Irish cream latte with oat milk and enjoyed it! We both got the Western breakfast sandwich and loved it (it is very messy though lol). On the way out I got a Berry Necessary smoothie, and I liked it but felt like there was just a tad too much orange juice in it. We agreed the acai powerbowl was an uplifting way to begin the day, and my Chai tea latte tasted so comforting. We happened to both choose the turkey Asiago bagel sandwich, which has plenty of meat and a really delicious sauce. Afternoon snack was a small hot chocolate with whipped cream for me and more coffee for her. There's free wifi, tables and couches, and wall plugs, plus music and fun art on the walls. Stopped here on a Saturday morning before doing some shopping in McCandless. This place has a charming neighborhood feel with a well designed interior that includes plenty of tables if you're interested in getting some work done while enjoying your drink and pastries. I especially appreciated the loft seating area which provides a nice view of the cafe area below. it is so interesting to watch the baristas perform their craft, whipping up a wide variety of drinks and snacks. I can't believe I haven't left this review sooner! California Coffee Bar is my absolute favorite coffee spot in Pittsburgh. When I lived on California Ave, I came in nearly every week day for a coffee and breakfast sandwich. Now my visits are less frequent but I still will go out of my way for their Western sandwich and a latte. All of the baristas are lovely and I've never had to wait long to order or receive my order. They also have order ahead on their website and delivery through Grubhub and other services. I usually don't eat breakfast in the morning, but there some days when it's a necessity. Being vegan makes the choices small in Pittsburgh, but I was so happy to learn about a spot, in Brighton Heights, near my office and right off of Rt. 65 which makes it really convenient on busy mornings. I walked in and was in awe of the offerings available for breakfast and lunch. Coffee, smoothies, pastries, sandwiches, and a lot more. I was looking for oatmeal, which by the way isn't available just anywhere...smh...I ordered a Caramel Latte, vegan, oatmeal, and a breakfast sandwich, also vegan, and.....they have vegan cheese people!!!!! They didn't have an alternative for eggs, but I'm hopeful they will soon. I also had a delicous Raspberry cookie, I think it's called a Linzer, but don't quote me. There is seating indoor and outdoors, and the area is really pretty and quiet. The one thing that was a little annoying was that I wasn't greeted at all, and actually stood at the counter while the four people behind the counter were working, and I was the only customer in the store for a few minutes. A simple hi and we'll be with you in a moment would have been nice, but I won't hold that against them. The food was excellent, and the Latte delicous! I walked in to this cute shop that's deceivingly large on the inside and ordered a breakfast bagel (The Western) and a latte with their special syrup of the month (blueberry vanilla). We ate at one of their outdoor tables and had a very pleasant time! I also got a raspberry liner type of cookie to go but ended up eating that immediately. Decided to check out this place today, while shopping at Tom Fridays (butcher shop). I ordered a Cappuccino to-go. The service was great and the girls were very friendly and sweet. The place was inviting with large boards on the walls outlining their menu. The Cappuccino was just ok and not as strong and robust as I like it to be. I am a huge snob though. I'll stop by again and try out their food menu since some of the pictures of what others posted looked really good. read more

This morning like many days I ordered a breakfast sandwich to go. Instead of waiting because the mornings are busy I usually call the order in ahead. This is my favorite coffee shop to date and I have had 88 check ins!! I stopped and picked up my order this morning and when I got to work and opened up my bag I realized theres only HALF a sandwich in there?! (see picture) Immediately irritated I called and was told all the ingredients are there but many were saying there was too much bread.. so they are only using one piece of bread now? WHAT!???????? I will now have to ask for a whole 2 pieces of bread!??? This is crazy!! This isn't a half a sandwich and soup deal? This was a "sandwich". Not a nice thing to do to your customers and a regular yet!??? So disappointing. I have been a fan for a long time and service is good and prices are above average but I am still a fan.. because of the quality of food and service. This is the place I take new employees from work and have introduced friends too. I had to let my fellow yelpers know.. to make sure you ask for a full two pieces of bread when ordering a sandwich. I am sad this morning to even be writing this review. I feel completely let down. VERY disappointed this morning.. this is my "go to" several days a week. I will no longer be recommending. read more

Love this place! I've been here quite a few times and keep meaning to leave a review. The vibe is inviting. Now that it's getting nicer, they have bistro tables set up outside. It has a decent amount of indoor seating as well. They always have a variety of scones, muffins and pastries. They have a ton of smoothie options and food and everything I've eaten from here had been tasty. The coffee is great. I've had it hot, iced , cold brew and lattes.
