I really wanted to love this place, especially with all of the positive reviews. My iced americano was good and you really can't beat the prices! However, the service left something to be desired - I had to wait about 5 minutes for someone to come to the counter, and then the ordering process was kind of awkward - the employee barely spoke to me. The space is dirty and dingy, and there was a dog inside of the cafe. This was my first visit to Cupka. It is less homey inside than Black Dog, but on this Friday morning, it was blessedly quiet. We enjoyed our hot breakfast sandwiches and chai latte in the front corner window while using the free wifi to catch up on news and our socials. I stopped by here two of Sundays ago with my wife and our twins for our morning coffees. Every Sunday morning we try to hit up a new local coffee shop and on this morning it happened to be Cup Ka Joe. While I have yet to review Cup Ka Joe, this was at least my 10th time there and maybe up to my 20th. This coffee shop is located in the South Side in what looks to be an old gas or service station. Parking, like in most of the south side can be weird but they do have a couple of dedicated spots on both sides of their building. Then the building itself has garage like doors that they roll up in the summer. The inside consists of a number of tables and a couple display cases. Finally they have a giant connect 4 game which my twins love to play each and every time we come here. My wife and I always get their specials here and they change them monthly. These specials are always interesting and good combinations of bought syrups. On this last visit I ended up ordering a large hot Bee Happy while my wife ordered a medium iced bee happy. It was tasty and I liked the honey flavor in mine. However, what I really appreciate here is that no matter what flavors I get, I can also taste the coffee. It's rich and delicious and holds up incredibly well to whatever seems to be thrown at it. My wife also always enjoys her coffee. The bottom line for me is that we will head back here again in the future. As a matter of a fact we already have many times and will continue to for the reasonable prices and delicious monthly specials. read more

I ordered a breakfast Sammy special which consisted of Ham, cheese and egg on a muffin. The sandwich was overwhelmed by the abundance of egg with very minimal Ham and a slice of cheese. We stopped here in mid-afternoon to wait for some friends driving into town. I'm an espresso-guy, and the Cup Ka Joe double-shot was intense and well-balanced, with a bright flavor like an unsweetened dark chocolate. It tasted freshly ground. Perfect. My wife had an aromatic moroccan mint tea with just a little sugar. She loved it. They have sweet baked goods and i think home-made soups, too. This casual cafe is roomy inside, with a little outdoor seating, and with a handful of parking spaces on their corner lot. That sure is convenient! They open 6am-8pm daily. Great coffee and tea. Paradise tea was excellent. They let me smell the tea before ordering it! Was very helpful with deciding on if that was what I wanted to go with. The coffee with all the different flavors in there was surprisingly not syrupy and not hidden by the coffee flavor. Honestly a perfect blend. Wish there was one closer, but then again it might just be our reason to take a trip to the southside on a Saturday morning from now on. ;D They are very DOGGO FRIENDLY and offer PUP CUPS w/ BACON in it!! Stopped by for the first time after passing by for years - what a treat! I had a cup of the special coffee, which was an Irish Grogg (for St Patty's Day), and it was so delicious. One of the best cups of brewed coffee I've had in a while. The barista was very nice and seemed to know all the regulars who came in while I hung out. They don't have the widest selection of snacks and baked goods, but the mixed berry muffin I had was pretty good. Very moist and tangy berries. Definitely focus on the coffee though, not the food. The atmosphere is not super cozy, since it's in an old gas station, but there is a good bit of seating. Also awesome that there are 2 parking spots on the property, so if you snag one you don't have to deal with street parking! read more

This place is an amazing value deal. I swear that their prices are the lowest for iced coffee in South Side. They have plant milk options as well as different sweetness. The coffee is consistently good - not knocking me out of the park, but gets the job done! Go on a warm day and they open up the garage doors to have fresh air flow throughout the entire building. That is pretty much my safe drink that if I get it somewhere I will like it, so I may need to get some other types of coffee to really put these people to the test. Great place to get work done and see all the puppers!! A very spacious coffee shop with lots of tables to study or converse at. The atmosphere tends to be a bit noisier than Big Dog across the street. When the weather is nice, the garage doors are open and there's outdoor seating! I love this place! It's awesome to see a new coffee joint in south side, and I love how they used an old garage! The location is perfect- off Carson, away from all the craziness- but still close AND there's even PARKING! How many coffee places in south side have free parking? Just this one. I work close to this location and have been watching them build the coffee shop for months. I was excited when it finally opened and I got to try their drinks! I only have ordered the vanilla latte frappe so far- after ordering it once I was hooked and just don't want to try something new yet. It's awesome! The difference between the vanilla bean frappe and vanilla latte frappe is there is coffee in the vanilla latte frappe- but it's the perfect amount! The vanilla flavor is awesome and the coffee taste isn't overbearing. I love this drink and it's an awesome treat. They have tons of snacks and typical coffee shop pastries too. Their banana bread was tasty- but was a little dry when I had it last. Yesterday, I tried their caramel apple oatmeal cookies... Yes... Caramel... Apple... Oatmeal... Cookies.... They are just as good as they sound! I need to go back like ASAP and get more because they were some of the most amazing cookies that I have ever had. Awesome place! Cup Ka Joe is wonderfully located in Pittsburgh's South Side. The space is a what I assume to be a repurposed car garage. The coffee shop is quite captivating inside and out. A great space to get work done or hangout. Today, I had small a cup of black coffee and a brownie. This was extremely affordable. Roughly three dollars for both items. The coffee tasted very good for such a low price point. I will go again. In the future, I would get a different baked good. read more

Honestly love this coffee shop. Their coffee is really good but I also love their smoothies. They have awesome baked goods also. I have not tried any of their prepared foods. Maybe next time. I love when they have their big garage windows open. Today was such a gorgeous day and perfect to have them open. Anytime I have stopped I have had a pleasant experience. I like their location being on the edge of south side so it's easy for me to get to. They do not have a lot of parking, really only a few spots. We both thought an iced hazelnut latte with almond milk would hit the spot on a sunny afternoon in Pittsburgh after our workout, boy were we right! The iced latte was exactly what we needed. The barista was so friendly and was so polite. Cup ka Joe is pet friendly and offered our dogs each a pup cup! I don't know who enjoyed their treat more, us or them. Came here on a Sunday to get some work done for a couple hours. We were able to get a table to ourselves. Great, extensive menu with lots of options. I love the smoothies so I got two! There's coffee, baked goods, snacks, smoothie and more. My friend wasn't a fan of the coffee. The WiFi was reliable and was very strong the entire time. They also have shared computers, free WiFi, and a TV so you don't have to miss the game. This story sounds pretty similar from the last time I was here. I wanted to hang out at Big Dog, but they were packed and there were no tables in the place. So we went across the street to Cup Ka Joe. First of all. the garage doors were open and it was not anywhere near a temp that was acceptable to be open. Thankfully after seeing the worker freezing too, I was like... You should shut the door, and she did. So we ordered a tea and espresso shot for my assistant. My I love when local tea shops use real looseleaf tea instead of generic tea bags. But the girl filled the bag so full that the tea was almost undrinkable because of how strong it was. I'm a tea nerd, you only need like two tablespoons for looseleaf and there had to be at least 4 in the bag. My assistant had a sip of her espresso and gave up immediately. She said she couldn't drink the rest. The space isn't a cozy coffee shop, it's more an industrial space with some tables. Plus, there was absolutely no music. It was weirdly quiet. That's weird, right? Just not a lot of ambiance, is what I'm trying to say. It's a great space in an old gas station, it would be cool to play that up more. I will say the menu is extensive, so maybe I'd stop in for a smoothie sometime and see if that's any better. I wouldn't come to work here again. read more

This coffee shop is 3 blocks from work which was so convenient today because I forgot my coffee at home and I was in desperate need to have my java fix. It's a former gas station converted into a coffee shop. The young woman that waited on me was pleasant and helpful to explain the snickerdoodle brewed coffee pairs nicely with marshmallow syrup but I declined because although it sound good I did want sweet coffee. I opted for mixing the snickerdoodle with the dark roast brewed coffee. Once I added the cream it was just what I was looking for. Java fix journey completed! By the way, the server showed me the homemade desserts that looked very inviting, especially the huge peanut butter chocolate chip cookie. My waistline was telling me to keep moving so I did. The coffee at Cup ka Joe is good and the prices are quite reasonable. I want to elaborate on a trip I made there one weekday morning around 10 before heading back home as I was in the area. I left about twenty minutes later very confused. When I arrived only one person was ahead of me in line. The barista, working solo, finished the order and went to me next. I ordered two drinks and a pastry when a friend came inside and got behind us in line. She was next in line, but instead of taking her order the barista took some seemingly random person's order. I was confused on why that happened, but it was just one person so no big deal? However, the barista had a hard time ringing up his order as it took about 5 minutes for him to get sorted. Then she takes my friends order, while a line or people start to emerge behind us. The barista proceeds to take about five more orders before making any drinks leaving us all confused. After the line was empty there were about six people waiting around for their drinks to come. I was considering just leaving since I was unsure how long it would be and did not even think the barista had swiped my credit card (she had but re: theme of confusion). I decided to wait a few more minutes as a few drinks started popping up on the counter, but had to ask whether it was mine or not. After getting a vague response I was 80% sure they were mine so I took them and left. Overall, I feel bad for the barista as she was clearly overwhelmed (though she should have had a better system imo), but I did not understand the process and it was a bit annoying to sit around in confusion.
