Three years ago I spent almost $6000 on a new 2 Ton Lennox Heat Pump system for my rental property in Kennewick. Two weeks ago my tenant called me and said the unit doesn't cool, so I called Bruce Heating and Air to have them check on the cooling issue since they're the one that installed it. Their technicians showed up to my property and took few minutes before he found a blown fuse, then the misleading diagnosis started in less than 10 minutes. He said that my compressor is shorted to ground and a $1225 replacement is needed. He installed a new fuse, flipped the disconnect switch and unplugged the compressor so no one attempt to start the unit. I was also told that if I plug the compressor and close the disconnect to get the equipment running, the fuse will blow out immediately. This statement was also confirmed by his service manager, verbatim. I was a bit suspicious to the diagnosis from speaking to the technician by phone about the issue, so I called Jacob and Rhodes recommended to me by an extended family member for a second opinion, and what a difference did that make. Jacob and Rhodes technician came out and diagnosed the issue for free and he said the compressor is fine, it was the fuse that was blown out and that's it, turned it on and the unit still running 7 days later, no fuse was blown immediately like stated by Bruce Heating and Air tech/Service manager. OMG, I was going to be out $1225 for misleading and confusing diagnosis, I was even charged $107 for this poor diagnosis by their technician, which I will not pay. I will also fight for the $215 charge for their yearly service agreement that hasn't been utilized yet from 5 days ago. I will NEVER EVER call Bruce Heating and Air for anything and will avoid them at all costs due to their vague business practices. Here is the diagnosis from both vendors, I'm definitely staying away from Bruce Heating and Air and for sure signing a new yearly service agreement with Jacob and Rhodes. Here is Bruce Heating and Air diagnosis, Who I will NEVER USE AND DO NOT RECOMMEND. 3/18/2024 - met tenant on site. At arrival I found no AC due to grounded compressor blew out disconnect fuses. Contacted homeowner and quoted flat rate warranty compressor replacement unless extended labor coverage was purchased. At this time the compressor is unplugged. Here is Jacob and Rhodes diagnosis, WHO I HIGHLY RECOMMEND. 3/22/2024 - Second opinion. Please check compressor to see if it's shorted to ground, customer had fuse blow earlier, another company replaced fuse, left disconnect off and also left compressor plug off. Arrived on site and checked to see if compressor was shorted to ground, performed meter test and found compressor not shorted to ground. Reconnected compressor electrical plug to compressor and checked compressor windings, windings ohm out good. Dual capacitor test ok at 34.3/4.8 mfd - rated 35/5 mfd, still ok. Contactor contact points are ok. Restored power to unit and test run from room thermostat, compressor turned on and unit began cooling. Compressor amps 4.5 amps. Switched into heating mode and verified reversing valve switching. Unit is back up and running.
