Dude we love this place! We come here almost everyday! Lemme tell you why! The beer! Joey (one of the owners) always knows what's up with the craft beer scene...he has all the local stuff, as well as some of the not so local craft stuff...from pale ales, to ipa's, ambers, scotch ales, sours and stouts, with over 30 taps on at all times, you will ALWAYS find something you like! Not to mention they have liquor too! Sazeracs, old fashioned's, tom Collins, they have a basil smash that's really good too, margaritas, bloody Mary's and even can make you a "beermimosa"...all in all, amazing bar! Happy hour...everyday during the week, 11-6...every beer with a dot is 3$ and there are a ton of them! Open seating! I LOVE this concept because you're completely free to sit wherever you want, let the kids run around and play with blocks, and enjoy the scenery at a huge picnic table and watch tv or just chill and listen to the music if that's your thing! Staff...we have become friends with Chelsea, Danny, Sean, Cody, chase, Joey, and I've gotta say, my boy serg is the best...always friendly, always knowing, always the best and fastest service! My wife and I saw through Facebook that a friend of ours was playing drums for JP Kendrick on a Saturday night, so we stopped in about 6:30PM with a plan to eat and drink something and stick around for an hour or two, but we had so much fun we lost track of time and didn't leave until 11:30PM! By the time we arrived, parking was a bit of a challenge - there were only a couple open spots in the back lot. The number of people there was either a testimony to the venue or the band, but either way the picnic tables were at least 75% full, so we had to do some recon to find a spot to sit. There was a steady line of customers at the bar, but the wait to order drinks wasn't excessive, and the bar staff were all cheerful and pleasant. As a person who predominantly drinks wine, I was very disappointed at how sparse the list was, but the number of beers available on tap and in bottles/cans was diverse and fairly impressive. In the course of the night, I ordered three different ales, all of which were served cold from the tap. My wife chose the Pinot Grigio, which was also well chilled. The fact that the bartender checked the glasses (and in one case switched one out) to make sure they were clean before pouring our drinks was appreciated. The venue is open air seating at long rows of connected picnic tables. Large ceiling fans keep the air moving enough to keep you from being uncomfortable in the Texas humidity, and after the sun sets it gets quite pleasant. The picnic tables are sturdy, but at our particular table we were in jeopardy of tipping over with four adults on one side and no one on the other side (it wasn't physically connected to the other tables). Sorting out the redistribution of weight solved the problem, and in the process we started a lively conversation with another couple that lasted the rest of the night. There is cornhole, Jenga, and other activities available for the kids, and there were plenty in attendance - we even saw a couple baby strollers - which for the venue and entertainment didn't seem inappropriate. The facility was kept clean, and staff circulated regularly to pick up empty glasses. Patrons were friendly and considerate - no one left a mess when they left. The band was positioned in one corner of the pavilion, and it wasn't difficult or awkward to get up and move around while they were playing. The food trucks are adjacent to the pavilion/bar area, and the ground is covered with all weather Astroturf and cement pavers. but the fact that the food truck courtyard isn't covered will make me think twice about coming on a rainy day. The food trucks provided a wide variety of choices (BBQ, burgers, Greek, and natural/organic). Based on what we saw on the web site, we were expecting to see two additional guest trucks (Jamaican and American), but we didn't learn until later (on the Facebook page) that they'd been cancelled due to weather. The four permanent trucks, however, offered plenty of options. My wife has several pretty significant food sensitivities, but we were both able to select something we wanted. While I'm sure Deacon Baldy's has some influence or oversight regarding the quality of food served by the trucks, a separate review for each truck might be appropriate. I ordered the gyro platter from the Greek Squad truck, and my wife ordered the stuffed avocado with chicken from Julia Cooks Organic. Each truck gives you a "buzzer" that lights up to let you know when your order is ready. My wife's took about 20 minutes to arrive, and mine took closer to 30, but both dishes were prepared to order and hot. The flavors and portions exceeded our expectations, and while the price points on the food was a little high, we agreed that when you add in the "stay all evening" model for the venue, the live music, the friendly family community atmosphere, and the drink selections, the price was on par for the value. We are lucky to have such a unique venue in our area! My brother, husband and I road our bikes to Deacon Baldy's on one of the only 'cold' days we face in Houston. They have a vast wall behind the bar stating their current beers on tap (I think it's 40), and it's a great mix of local brews, along with interesting choices you don't see anywhere else. They even have a decent happy hour. We didn't eat at any of the food trucks, but they smelled good and kept the line moving. We used to love this place but they were extremely rude about our children getting up from the table because of "covid." We've eaten out at many other places and never had an issue with our children getting up from the table. Oh and no outside balls allowed? Even children can play at school and daycare and run around... but they want to say you can't at their establishment. It was the way the bartender delivered it that really got to us. Extremely rude. There is ample seating for parties large and small, adequate food truck options and the bar has a wide selection of beers(over 20 taps), good malt liquor selection from Bourbons to single malts, wines and cocktails. They also have a decent selection of non alcoholic drinks for the less inclined and children. The staff does a great job of keeping the place clean and tidy, which is always a challenge with food truck places and the ownership rotates the trucks frequently enough that you have a wide selection of food options on every visit. My boyfriend and I love coming out to Deacon Baldys! The atmosphere is really nice, but the selling point is having a variety of food. I'm very picky so my bf gets tired of eating what I eat all the time so when we come to places like this we are both able to get the cuisine we like. The only complaints I have are the lack of parking and seating, we almost didn't have a seat the last time we went. We walked around with our drinks, we hadn't received our food thankfully because it took us about 10/15 mins to snag a end of picnic table. We enjoyed tacos(from wichesonwheels I think they usually have more of a burger/sandwich menu but they changed it up for Cinco De Mayo weekend,I've seen them there other weekends) dumplings and egg rolls(from Heo's Kitchen) and they were all super tasty, hot and fast! We finished the meal off this time with a milkshake from Shake You Up Milkshake truck and it was soooo good. A little pricey for a milkshake but in my opinion can definitely be shared, between the two of us we only finished maybe half. The tacos were $15 and came with chips and queso. The dumplings were $4 for 4 small ones and $3.50 for the two small egg rolls. While the milkshake was I believe $17 or $18! Go check out Deacon Baldys! Great concept...all seem to agree here on that. Be prepared for food trucks to not be able to deliver and not have all items on the menu. Seems later in the evening the quality suffers greatly (Burger truck). Prices have come down on the burger truck offerings since I was last there which is good, but doubt I will ever be back. BBQ Godfather was a new addition, but you must enjoy very spicy barbecue. We had the brisket and I've never enjoyed, or run across, spicy and salty brisket. Got it to go, and didn't check bag. They gave me an extra sandwich instead of potato salad...not sure how you mess that up on a small order and only customer in waiting. Also, only sides available were potato salad and mac and cheese. Cole slaw is a must for BBQ offerings, and is not difficult to make. And that was at the start of the day. Extremely poor and evident the vendor didn't care to plan. Pure laziness in my mind. At the end of a busy day, shortages can be expected, not at beginning. Again, will never be back. The Lobster tacos are still the favorite of all to visit. 5-star. Will be the only reason to return to Baldy's. Someone else mentioned nothing for the sweet tooth. No selection of deserts that I saw. Room to improve here. The venue itself is really nice. Open air pavilion with TVs for sports, play areas for kids, and a huge assortment of craft beers - sign me up. The food, however, leaves a lot to be desired. Our group tried the craft burgers, lobster rolls, potato and frito pie from various trucks. Although nothing was bad per se, none of it will win any awards. Combine the 'meh' food with the unbelievably outrageous pricing (makes Disney look like a bargain) and we won't be back. My wife's $12 burger (no fries, no drink) was served cold, and my $15 lobster roll was a three-bite (tiny) waste of money. Many of the trucks were out of what I think would be staple side items like fries, tots, and drinks. The place is a fun atmosphere. The beer and it's selections are great! The drinks are good price too $5.50 for hard liquor mixed drink is great. As for the food- none of us were impressed. WAY too overpriced for what you get. The raviolis were good but for $14 served on a paper plate, seat yourself, on picnic table, got cold fast- well it's not worth it. We also tried the burger from Craft- best to read my 1 star review on their site for details. The Vietnamese place was also ok. Had the chicken curry. All in all we spent $85 for 3 people for small portions and two drinks. No service, dirty tables ( we sat on gum), loud, food got cold fast served on paper plates with plastic utensils- uh, no. Now the food...4 of us picked Uncle Tony's to eat at. I was greeted with "it's a 124 in here I can't be in here long" not a hi welcome what can I get for you. I was given a buzzer for our 4 items. After some time my oldest (13) noticed the guy mean mugging us for awhile. I casually walked up and was told "I've buzzed you at least 25 times!" To which I said clearly the buzzer isn't working. It was not busy at all. Uncle Tony's had one or two other orders the whole time we were there. The guy knew exactly where we were and could've easily walked it to us versus mean mugging and being rude. His overall attitude and demeanor was less than professional. We went on Saturday evening, October 6, for a family birthday party. We were able to reserve a table since there were 15 of us with kids. Everything was great! Management was awesome to deal with & the staff was very helpful. My husband & I have been several times, but this is the first time we've taken the rest of the family, including his parents. The idea is great, but there's room for improvement. It's a new location so I'm sure it will only get better over time! We still plan on going back because of the ease of location and the atmosphere. The atmosphere is great, large outdoor bar area with picnic tables and TVs everywhere. They have a huge variety of craft beer on tap (bonus in my book) and a variety of food trucks to choose from. The quality of the food trucks is good, but not great. Quite a few of the trucks were over priced for the food you get which is where I can see room for improvement. Overall, we will definitely be going back because of the beer selection and I hope the trucks get better over time! I know they plan to rotate a few of them out every now and then. Below describes a rule that was enforced by the business durning my last visit. I can't remember the date, but it was around Summer 2017. New rule, which I understand, but unfortunately will lose our business. No more outside food. My family and I would typically get the kids Chick-fil-a and we (parents) would eat from the food trucks and drink beer. The food trucks have kid's menus, but once you price in all 5 meals and a couple beers the cost doesn't justify the venue.
