I really hate that I have to update my review in a negative way but I have to be honest. I will…read morestart by saying that Eddie is super super nice and friendly HOWEVER he does not thoroughly explain what is going on with my car. He initially did body work to my car, which I was VERY happy with, but just days later, my splash shield light came on, then my check engine. I am not necessarily saying they caused this (can't confirm they didn't either, as they were the only ones who worked on my car). So I took my car back shortly after, and Eddie said he did the diagnostics for free. He then charged me for an oil change (that I didn't need at the time). I emailed Eddie asking for my diagnostic results, which he said he would get to me, but he never did. I had to take my car somewhere else, and it turned out to be a simple sensor issue that they promptly fixed, and I haven't had an issue since.

TLDR; Eddie was highly unprofessional during this process, ignoring my concerns and making light of…read morethe situation. Screenshots attached. I needed a compressor replaced and needed it quickly as I'm active duty Army and was on leave the next week to drive my family down to South Carolina. Despite multiple promises over 4 days that my car would be ready in time, it was not. I had to spend a lot of money on a rental vehicle and my car now has problems it didn't have before. On 10 July I called CACC to say my A/C was blowing hot air. Eddie said to head over and I'd be seen right away. The address on Yelp was incorrect (it was their old address 15 mins away). When I made it to the right building they acted like it was weird to get a walk in, they didn't know how much an estimate costs and seemed not to know what to do with me. I should've left then and I'll regret not doing so forever. I said I needed to be seen immediately because I'm going out of town soon, so if they didn't have time I would need to go somewhere else. This is the first time they lied to me. The receptionist kept telling me the mechanics couldn't figure out what was wrong. This went on for two hours. Finally she says I need a new compressor (it wasn't getting any power)- that is the very first thing you would look at for a broken A/C so that tells me they were lying to me that they were looking at it just to keep me in the shop. She promises they can get the part the next morning and have it ready for me by late 11 July. After some back and forth she offered to let me take one of their vehicles for the day, but when I got inside it was filled with trash, loose change, and the dash light was on. I gave the keys back right away. Every day for the next 4 days they told me it would be ready the next day. Continued lies about OTHER issues with the vehicle, but none of them were well-explained even when I asked for specifics. Eddie would say vague things, "there's a hose issue; there's blockages; it's dirty" but when I asked exactly what was being done he would say not to worry and blow my questions off. I am fully confident they did not touch my car and were lying to keep pushing off working on it. For the 6 days they had my car it equaled 4.5 hours of labor. No other work is listed except for replacing the compressor and refrigerant. I pick the car up on 15 July. A/C is slow but turns on. By the next day it died completely again. Eddie says I can't take it to his shop because it's conveniently under construction. I'm sent to a different mechanic who tells me the compressor is completely dead and he sees no other work having been done. I tell Eddie this and do not get an answer until I push him for a resolution. I am forced to bring my car back and have to shell out the money for a rental car to drive the 8 hours down to South Carolina and back. I sent Eddie the cost of the rental car but he did not try to compensate. Eddie blames whatever he got the part from for being a dud. I see on Google Reviews that a prior employee accused him of using bad parts to cut costs, I'd say this supports that accusation. When I show up to drop my car off the second time, directly before picking up a rental and driving 8 hours (now losing a day off my trip because Eddie ignored me the day before), the office is locked. They knew when I was coming. Luckily a mechanic came out another door and took my keys when I explained. I picked my car up for the second time on 22 July. Eddie is not there. Receptionist Debbie says the mechanics mentioned something about a loose wiring harness but she drove it around for a while and it "seems fine". I said you can't tell me there's a problem maybe but you don't know what it is and you didn't notice anything as a non-mechanic. She says the wiring harness was why it didn't work last time- I explained to her I know that isn't true because the OTHER mechanic I went to couldn't even get it to accept power while grounded, so there's another lie. Lo and behold, my car now has wiring issues every time I turn it on, with the Lane Keeping System malfunctioning at start up. I absolutely refuse to bring my car back to this shop and will be paying even more to have someone else fix it. I don't lie, I don't need to, so the owner can say what he wants to this review but it only reinforces the unprofessional from this business.

My dad has brought his cars to this location before Hillmuth bought it from Ramos. He continues to take his car to Hillmuth because of their consistency, honesty, and efficiency. I moved to California and the last time I had my car serviced here was in 2009. Flash forward to 2014 when I moved home. My husband would do my oil changes and add air to my tires and he even attempted to change my brake pads. He's been busy at work and I thought I will just take my car down the street (see review about Brentwood Automotive). I decided to take my car back to the county (we currently live in Baltimore city) and was so happy I did. Mike and Terry both were so helpful, patient, and answered all questions I had. They didn't sound annoyed when I had no clue about my car and had to call and ask my husband. Sorry, I am old school I don't know much about cars nor do I want to so I appreciate straight shooters and not being taken advantage of by mechanics who just see an easy opportunity to upsell and charge me for things my car doesn't need. After the fiasco I experienced elsewhere I wanted to make sure my car was 'ok' and also was concerned about a nagging tire pressure light that kept blinking. They diagnosed the issue and we decided not to replace the sensor at this time. My husband took his car there and had some maintenance to catch up on. They always call and let you know exactly what needs to be done, what should be done, and you decide whether or not to proceed. They were open with us and we decided to go with about $ 1500 worth of work all of which seemed necessary and vital to extending the life of his vehicle. They also sent a technician to pick me up from my parents house when was car was ready. Such a nice service and a great staff. I can't say enough how wonderful it is to have a trusted automotive shop and I look forward to becoming a Howard County resident again and being closer to the good folks at Hilmuth.

I had a mixed experience with this shop and want to be fair in my assessment…read more On one hand the technical work was excellent. I brought my 2022 Honda Insight in for a fuel injector issue and the team handled the actual repair perfectly. The car is running smoothly again and the turnaround time was reasonable. If you are looking for quality mechanical work they clearly know what they are doing. However I am frustrated by the lack of guidance regarding warranty coverage. This car is still well within its 5 year or 60000 mile powertrain warranty and fuel injectors are typically covered under that or the emissions warranty. Since this was a major repair cost I wish the shop had recognized the warranty status and advised me to visit a dealership before proceeding with the out of pocket expense. I appreciate the good repair work but I would have valued a bit more professional transparency regarding my manufacturer coverage options. If you go here just make sure you have checked your own warranty status first.

In spite of the pecuniary wealth of Clarksville, the area is generally destitute when it comes to…read moreautomotive knowledge. The River Hill Sunoco preys on this ignorance. Late one night, my girlfriend got a flat tire. As I have done dozens, if not hundreds, of times in my life, I removed the old wheel/tire and put on the spare using nothing more than a scissors jack and lug wrench. As I replaced the lug nuts, I threaded them and tightened by hand before using the lug wrench for one last fastening. As it turned out, there was a hole in the sidewall of the old tire, so Sunoco ordered a new tire that was expected to arrive in a few days. In order for us to commute to Baltimore on the spare, "John" the technician tightened up the lug nuts. "John" did so with an air impact wrench (also known as an air hammer, pneumatic impact wrench, etc). A few days later, we took the car back for Sunoco to install the new tire. This time, the Sunoco technician had difficulty removing one of the lug nuts, and one of the studs snapped. After replacing the tire, Sunoco capped the broken stud and offered to replace it at a cost of approximately $100. Through an apparent miscommunication, Sunoco never ordered the new stud, so we took the car elsewhere for repair. At the other garage, my mechanic had to use a breaker bar to remove two of the lug nuts because Sunoco had over-tightened them (see attached photo showing metal shavings from the other over-tightened lug nuts next to the broken stud). Due to the numerous damaged studs, we replaced the entire wheel hub assembly. Naturally, this cost more and caused major inconvenience as the car could not be driven for several days. An objective analysis of the facts leads inescapably to the conclusion that Sunoco over-tightened the lug nuts, causing the catastrophic failure (breaking) of one stud and the effective destruction of two others. When the first stud snapped, Sunoco did not mention any issue with any of the other lugs or studs. The vehicle was entirely within the control of Sunoco, and it was Sunoco that once again tightened the lugs after they replaced the tire. The thing speaks for itself: only Sunoco could have caused the damage to the second and third studs, and the circumstances strongly suggest Sunoco's fault for the first. Through its manager, Adam, Sunoco has enumerated several excuses to absolve itself. First, Sunoco alleged that I "cross-threaded" the lug nuts when I put on the spare. I reiterate that I hand-tightened the lug nuts, and this excuse does not account for the destruction of the second and third studs, which happened after Sunoco replaced the tire. When confronted with the issue of the additional lug nuts' destruction, Sunoco then blamed me for not making the lug nuts tight enough after the tire change and alleged the wheel was "like a loose tooth" when it arrived at Sunoco (which, of course, undercuts its "cross-threaded" theory). Admittedly, I did not have a torque wrench, but to think the lug nuts had come loose on the short drive to Sunoco strains credulity. If it were true, why then did Sunoco not note damage to the other studs at that point? Oddly, Adam denied knowledge of any technician named "John" employed at Sunoco, though he admitted a technician with a similar sounding name does work there (other social media posts about the River Hill Sunoco, e.g. Anglie's List, mention an employee named "John."). Just so there is no confusion, "John" is the technician who has family in the south of France, though I'm sure Adam knew exactly who I was referencing.

We needed work done on the steering column which honestly I never noticed had any problem but apparently there were tons of issues. Was informed it needed new rear brake rotors for it to work, so we authorized $576 in work - $209 in parts for two new rotors and $354 in labor to replace rotors and adjust the parking brake cables. They informed us after that this did not fix the issue and that they adjusted the cables as much as they could. They said it would be an additional $876 to replace both cables - $176 for parts and $700 for labor. I asked what cables they are using and they confirmed they were the Febi Bilstein cables which you can buy a set of for $27.38 online. 530% parts markup. I asked them about this and they said they could drop the parts price to $140, which is still a 400% parts markup! The situation felt fishy so we did not authorize the work and picked up the car. I Googled how to adjust the parking brake on the car, clicked the first link, and followed the instructions. Cost me $0 in parts and was extremely easy and now the parking brake held. Took the car back to the shop for re-inspection and it passed. Either they are incompetent and do not know how to adjust a parking brake cable, even though I was able to do it myself quickly by following the first result on Google, or they are trying to make a quick buck, which seems very possible considering the 530% parts markup on the cable. At the end of the day they made $576 off of us (plus $110 for the inspection) replacing rear rotors that likely didn't need to be replaced to fix the issue anyways. Very glad we didn't authorize $876 in a "fix" that was not needed. At least they were very friendly... can't say I will be bringing any of our cars back here.
