Ok, this restaurant is fine... just fine. I had the fish and chips, the fries were crispy, the fish was mostly crispy, and everything was well cooked. However, the food has little in the way of flavor, very little salt, rather plain, the tartar sauce was mostly mayo, and the ranch on the side salad was also barely ranch. I would say this, service was cheery and quick, the food was plentiful especially for the prices, and I was full when I left, unfortunately though not terribly satisfied. However, if you are looking for less salt, and no complex flavors, then this is a perfect joint and quite affordable. No debit or credit accepted here.

This is the breakfast place to be. They do offer lunch too but their breakfast menu is where it's at! We've visited here many times over many years. I keep coming back for the pancakes! They're so fluffy and good and cooked perfectly every time. The staff is always friendly and hard working. Things to take note of; They only accept cash but they do have an ATM available. It's not a huge restaurant, it's a "historic" house that is charmingly set up to dine in. You may have to wait a bit to be seated if it's a busy day/time. Theres limited parking but we've always been able to find a spot. Don't come in if you're in a big rush or have limited time. It's not fast food and we generally wait for our food longer here than most places. I note this because if you're aware of it you can sit back and be patient until your food arrives to enjoy. They offer a large menu with tons of options to choose from. There's sure to be something or everyone. Our latest visit we did try lunch options for the first time. We had sandwiches that were both very good. We tried the clam chowder too and enjoyed that to start with. Even though we did like our lunches we'll be back for breakfast again soon. Get the pancakes!!

My go-to order here is country fried steak and biscuits and gravy! So good and so filling, I can never finish the entire portion by myself. The gravy on both dishes is sooo good. Cash only!

You know how good a place is by the length of the wait and I had to wait 20 minutes to be seated. A cute old house from the early 1900s, the place has charm, good service, and delicious food at very reasonable prices. The servers have obviously been here a long time, so things flowed smoothly in my quest for some good chow. Mine was quick, friendy, and attentive, keeping my coffee topped-off whenever she came by. I had the Homestyle Breakfast ($13) with two eggs, hash browns, three slices of bacon, and a biscuit and gravy. There was so much food, I had to take half home and it was delish. The price was 2/3 the cost of similar breakfasts elsewhere where you are lucky to pay less than $20, making Dean's a definite TravelValue ... HOOAH! The only negative was me showing-up with not much cash and the sign on the front stated ¨We don't take debit/credit cards¨, so I had to run to an ATM down the street. In this day of contactless payments, I would have been happy to pay and extra buck or two to use a card. CombatCritic Gives Dean's Homestyle Cafe 9 Bombs Out Of 10 ... More Bombs Are Better!

On the outside it is a house. Inside, there is not very much seating so if it's busy you might have to wait a while for a table. The waitresses are old school and super sweet and know excellent customer service. The food is amazing, like an old school from scratch diner. The only thing that I could complain about is the wait for seating, other than that it was a perfect experience and I will be going back!

Their Eggs Benedict weren't that great, it was more of disappointment and I couldn't eat much of it

The food was a hit or miss.. The staff wasn't too friendly, the service and the ambiance was okay!I would only order to go next time!

Took a seat at the bar and was greeted promptly. Looked over the menu and decided on the smoked angels envy old fashioned. It was happy hour so I got the half wedge salad. Was not a traditional wedge but was really good. For my main I got the lomo saltado, mole rubbed steak tips with onions, peppers, French fries over rice. Was a wild mix of stuff. Steak pieces were pretty small but full of flavor and the sauce over the whole thing was delicious. Was worried the fries would be soggy but the sauce made them better. Sopped up the sauce with the rice and fries. Amazing. Asked for a margarita to go with the meal, seemed appropriate. Sat at the bar so service was good, kept water full and checked in repeatedly Was a great time and great food

It's a beautiful restaurant, we had a large party seated by the window, and our server was SO fun. Everyone was incredibly sweet, and the service was perfect. It was also close to my birthday, and they ended up singing to me twice because our server didn't know the first time! They even brought me a complimentary cake, so it made for such a fun memory. Food-wise, the burrata needed a little more balsamic, but the empanadas were a 10/10, the sauces were amazing, and I loved the fried grit fritters and bread. The drinks were also SO good. Our entire group became obsessed with the Coco No Loco and kept ordering them all night! Unfortunately, my steak was where they lost the star. It was SO tough and honestly difficult to chew. The flavor was also spicier than I expected, but that part is on me! I think they may have just had an off night with the steak, because everything else was incredible. I'd absolutely come back, I'd just order something other than steak next time. 4/5!

After getting sat down, we just... waited. For about 10-15 minutes, nobody showed up. Eventually a server came and took our order in a very disinterested fashion. We ordered a cocktail, the bruschetta appetizer, and then a burger, the king salmon and a plate of chicken pasta in white sauce for the little one. Everything took forever to come out (even the drink), nobody came out to check or refill waters in the 90 minutes we were there. Cocktail (Spring Break) - 5/5 great! Bruschetta - 3/5. Generally good but the bread was carbonized and as hard as a rock. Burger + fries - 3/5. Burger looked sad but was actually pretty tasty, if a little overcooked. Fries looked great (hand cut) but upon us closer inspection in the low light, you could see they were 50% those tiny peel pieces that get burned when frying. Guys! You are supposed to take those pieces out! Salmon - 3/5. Kind of... fine. A little fishy, not really what i expect for King salmon. Chicken pasta for toddler - 4/5. Actually this was delicious (if a bit overcooked) and it will my leftover lunch (toddler didn't eat it but that isn't the pasta's fault). Total bill for everyone, with tip: $126 So pretty mediocre food, downright bad service, and premium pricing. It's a pass from me!

Our server was friendly and attentive, especially considering how busy he seemed! As for the food, it was just okay overall. I ordered the pancakes with strawberries and whipped cream, along with scrambled eggs, and got an order of biscuits and gravy to go. The pancakes were decent, although a little thicker than I personally prefer, and the scrambled eggs were alright. Unfortunately, the biscuits and gravy were the biggest disappointment. The biscuits were pretty dry, and the gravy could definitely use more seasoning and flavor. Since it has sausage in it, I expected a little more flavor, but the sausage actually had an almost pepperoni-like taste to me. On the plus side, it wasn't overly greasy. Overall, I'd give Sunny's Diner 3 stars. Nothing was necessarily bad, but the food didn't really stand out to me either. I would be willing to come back, but next time I'd probably skip breakfast and try one of their lunch items instead!

I always love the view of the river, and we especially enjoy when we get to see our housekeeper, Missy. Missy truly goes above and beyond. She always greets us warmly, checks to see if there's anything we need, and makes us feel so welcome. On our most recent stay, we originally had a room with one bed, but we usually get two because we like having the extra bed for our bags. We ended up moving rooms to the other end of the hotel. That morning, my husband had to rush off to work because he was running late, and we were quickly trying to get everything moved. Missy kindly told us not to worry or rush on her account, and that she would take care of cleaning the old room. About an hour after I got settled into the new room, there was a knock at the door--it was Missy! She had brought me two hangers I had accidentally left behind in our old room, and one of them even had my bracelet wrapped around it. I hadn't even realized I had left it behind. That small gesture meant so much to me. Missy is absolutely amazing and such an asset to the Rivershore. It's wonderful to see someone who genuinely cares about guests and goes out of her way to make sure everything is taken care of. Thank you, Missy, for always making our stays that much better! After waiting for about 20 seconds (he went to go check if a table was clear... and someone was just finishing cleaning a lovely table by the window), we were led to an another smiling person who seated us. The place was busy, but not too crowded. It was a Sunday around 11 AM. Parking in the lot was no problem, although I know this area gets much busier when the Milwaukie Farmer's Market is going, so you may want to keep that in mind for May through October. When the market is going on... I believe you can park in the Library parking lot just about a block away or street parking on Main, etc. Our waitress, a third person, was also very nice and quickly brought us water and asked if we wanted to order something to drink before we ordered food. We did. Two of us ordered regular coffee and I ordered a beautiful butterfly pea flower blue plant based latte made with almond milk (see photo). It was delicious! They have so many interesting drinks, I definitely want to come back and try several more. One person in our party was omnivore, another was vegetarian/pescatarian, and another was vegan. They had no problems, accommodating all of us. They also had several tasty looking specials on a chalkboard on the wall. I have included a photo of our various foods and the menus. The servings were generous and delicious. We only live about six minutes away from here and sadly this is the first time we have been able to visit. We had planned to several other times, but it never worked out (note: they are closed Mondays).
