Like some of the other newer reviews have stated under new ownership it's just not the same people would come into this establishment for the amazing food and the atmosphere of the people that worked there I went in there yesterday and like other people stated it's usually packed you're waiting there's no place to park There was only a few cars in the parking lot and only a couple people when I went inside the lady brought me my coffee brought me a menu took my order another couple came in right after me and ordered after I did while sitting there waiting for my food I watched a waitress bring their food out to them Which you do not do in a restaurant establishment you bring out food by the order of the tickets were placed so that kind of irritated me as I was still waiting for my food it finally came out about six or seven minutes later and upon getting my food the waitress brought me white toast which I looked right at her and told her it was supposed to be an English muffin which is what I asked for and if anybody knows going into this place when you look at the menu right at the top of their breakfast it shows all their eggs what they're called and how they're supposed to be properly cooked I ordered my eggs over medium which states and everybody should know this in the cooking industry that the whites are to be cooked thoroughly with the yolks running my whites were not cooked all the way so there's the second strike the quality of food has went downhill upon getting my ticket and seeing that the waitress didn't even bother to put down any type of time or an English muffin so the Cook just decided to put out whatever he felt like instead of asking what I was supposed to have since she didn't write it down and the prices have went way up since new ownership $15 for what I had is not worth it and then on top of that another 350 for a cup of coffee almost $20 to have breakfast this is completely insane if this is how this place is going to be run and how the cooking is going to be a great place to go have breakfast is going to be no more the owner really needs to change how everything is get proper cooks that know how to cook and maybe drop the prices down a little bit I get it there is inflation but for the price of what I had it was not worth it and to charge 350 for a cup of coffee is insane read more

It used to be consistently excellent but that was during the previous owner's tenure. They sold it, there was a controversial change of hands and inevitably the quality of the food and service took a nosedive. We knew that would happen so we gave them plenty of time to figure it out and returned occasionally. The portions got smaller, then bigger, then smaller again. I don't know what their goal is but achieving their former glory doesn't seem to be a priority. We'll go back eventually but I'm not expecting much from them anymore. read more

Dean's is a great place to go for a very laxed setting for a breakfast of sorts. My wife and I have been here a couple of times before we decided to bounce out of state for good but we are glad we were able to come here when we did. Very family-based in an old house house setting....just with like 15 extra tables/chairs to go along with it. If I had known this place existed prior than we did, would have come here more often. The breakfasts here are A-1 solid. Never had a bad meal meal here. The Dean's Omelet is a gargantuan messy of goodness and very rich in flavor. If your are not too worried about cholesterol, highly recommend! Loaded with all kinds of meats, two types of cheese, and an assortment of veggies. Decent B&G here as well. Two things to think about when coming here.....(1) they take cash only. (2) get here early. Not because of the crowd (it does get busy, though) but because they had a propensity of running out of inventory like eggs or potatoes for hash browns. Not sure why but that is probably the reason for them closing early...at least for breakfast, anyway. Other than that, this is a great spot. my husband has been coming to this establishment since he was a bachelor and after we started dating, i had the pleasure of experiencing Deans for the first time. i always get an omelette, and my husband big breakfast with bacon. the service is always amazing and friendly. you can feel the love that this family owned restaurant puts into everything they do. Have gone here for months every Sunday. Always a wait to be seated and for good reason. Transformed from a house to a restaurant, the ambience can't be understated. I will say beware the size of the food they serve! They don't skimp on anything. From breakfast to burgers, I haven't tried anything I haven't liked. They have regular sized meals all the way to OMG how in the heck are you going to eat all that? And you can't judge by the price. Even their biggest meals are a bargain. Visiting the Portland area and read about Dean's on Yelp. So many positive reviews...decided we needed to check it out. I might have given them 4 stars, but trying to find parking and dealing with the construction in the area kind of ruined the experience. We drove around 3 times and were ready to leave when we saw a car leaving. This cafe is on the small side so there was a bit of a wait. However, once we were seated...service was excellent. Our waitress was very attentive! Portions are oversized as you can see from the pics. I was barely able to finish one chicken fried steak patty and egg along with hash brown potatoes and toast. One complaint is the hash browns tasted a bit rancid from the oil the potatoes were fried in. But...in their defense it was around 12:30ish so this was after the breakfast crowd. Hubby loved his pork chop and eggs. He said the pork chops were nicely seasoned and not over cooked and dried out. The jury is out if we will make a return visit when in the Portland area...but thank you Dean's for the experience. read more

New Owners! Awful! I ordered a bacon cheeseburger. I got exactly a bun, burger, patty, a piece of cheese and some bacon. Absolutely nothing else for the sandwich. Thank goodness there was ketchup on the table, so it wouldn't been so dry. They ran out of crinkle cut fries, which I love, and substituted overdone tater tots. Yuck! read more

It's hard to imagine that they have been open just under 11 years, it feels like a place that was opened over 60 years ago and never updated. Be warned, no credit or debit cards and you might want to call ahead in the afternoon to see if they're closing early as they did today. Having said that, it's comfortable, clean and the service is efficient and pleasant. They should be high on your list of places to go for hearty breakfast options. We were there for lunch and while not disappointed, we were not wowed. This is basic comfort food. Flair, pizazz, elegant, haute cuisine it is not. Have a meal with a couple of friends in a comfortable setting, it is all of that. I like a good chilli cheese burger and they delivered. It's a big hamburger under a lot of chilli, served with cheese and onion the way God intended. It doesn't come with fries, thankfully the up charge is only $1 vs the listed charge of $5 for a side of fries. The wife's favorite is a patty melt and she was very happy with her lunch here. She likes decaf coffee and they brewed a fresh pot for here. It's cozy, comfortable, solid, good food. It's not a foodie paradise, however I don't think anyone would expect it to be. read more

"Homestyle" is the perfect word for this place. It's no frills, no fuss and all charm. The sagging beam in the main dining area and kitschy decor remind me of Grandma's house. You're also more likely to see Grandma's of varying degrees coming in and out of this place. It makes sense because the food isn't winning any James Beard awards, it's simply the kinda food you would find in your own Grandma's kitchen. This place is a fantastic no frills American breakfast joint. Cash only for straightforward, great food. My partner and I came today before going floating down the Clackamas River. We split an order of chicken fried steak with easy over eggs (it also comes with hash browns and wheat toast.) It costs an extra dollar to split a plate, but unless you're super hungry, it's well worth it. The dish usually comes with 3 eggs, but they gave us 2 each when we split it! Everything was delicious and exactly how we expected it. Oh, and the price is also amazing; it cost me less than $20 for breakfast with coffee for two. Heard many great things about this place, and been meaning to try it for years. Finally was able to come in for breakfast and I think it'll be my last. I was craving waffles and was a little surprised that they don't serve them. The waitress recommended the French toast and they were absolutely amazing. The rest of the food was okay....the #1 thing that bothered me was the service. The black haired waitress seemed annoyed and I felt like I was bothering her and everyone else was. It's a tiny place that's a converted house. The parking lot is almost full when we arrived two minutes before they opened. This place does not disappoint. Enormous omelets. Chock full of the good stuff. Service was attentive, friendly and quick. A real down-to-earth atmosphere. No pretense. Just good food. I'd call it a "best kept secret" but it's obvious the secret is out. Highly recommended. Don't come here if you want "fancy". We have been eating a Dean,s Homestyle Cafe for over fifteen years. When we lived in the area we were in at least once a week - always great food and service. An incredible place to eat. When there was a wait, it was never an issue as it was worth the wait. When we moved to the far eastern part of Oregon, we have always planned our trips (about once a month) around a breakfast at Dean's. On Sunday we made such a trip. We were shocked - it was the same menu, but the food is NOT even close to the same. After looking - I discovered that Dean's is under new ownership. Although there were more employees in the restaurant than we have ever seen the service was horrible (we never did receive our entire order). And what we did receive was nowhere close to the quality we have always had. The Taco Omelet was a downright discussing greasy mess. I can say that we will not return. Sad to see the passing of a great restaurant. read more
