This has always been a great fly rod smallmouth bass guide service in previous years. I have taken my son on 2 occasions and 4 other friends over a decade. This April I contacted my guide 10 days before a planned trip w/ concerns about fishing conditions given "100-year rains", a heavy winter snow-pack and flooding in Michigan w/ numerous tailwater dams being threatened. I was assured that the guide "was on the water and conditions were fine". This was a bold-faced lie. I traveled 350+ miles from 3 states away to find the Grand and Huron Rivers 5 feet above the high water mark in flood stage flowing like rapids with water clarity similar to chocolate milk. I specifically suggested that I was happy to reschedule later in the season when conditions were more favorable. I fully understand that guides have a limited season but lying about conditions to maintain income is just wrong. When all is said and done SO essentially stole $1,600 from me given booking fees, guide fees and tip, gas, food and lodging. Don't trust them in the future to have integrity in representing the conditions. They will say anything to preserve income. They have lost a client for life.

I ended up driving to the store but they didn't have the item that I wanted. Still, the store didn't have a bare wall or empty space as it was packed with merch. They also have "outlet"/ clearance/ final sale items in the back of the store. One employee was rude to me - I tried on a jacket but wasn't sure about the fit. She asked me with an attitude - how do you expect it to fit?

There's a Cabelas over by Selfridge, and a Bass Pro Sports up in Auburn Hills, but this is the only big outdoors store within 30miles of me. (I don't count Dunhams, which caters mainly to team sport activities.) Sportsman's Warehouse is the only big box store in the area that caters to traditional outdoor activities, and while it's no Cabelas, it's not bad. The archery selection is fair if you're a fan of compound bows or crossbows, but the last time I looked that had on,y two recurves or longbows. There's a lot of fishing gear for fans of spinning and bait casting, but not a lot of quality fly fishing gear. Selection in most departments is a lot narrower than you'll find at Cabelas, and not all sizes are in stock. Several times I've gone there looking for shoes and boots but couldn't find any 12s in what I was looking for. I went looking for a range bag a while ago and found just a handful of bags. The firearms selection is decent if you're looking for a 9mm auto or an AR clone, but you won't see a wide range of .22 rifles or pistols. The reloading equipment section is very thin, with only a handful of powders, cases, and bullets. Ammunition selection is wide in areas like 9mm and .223, but thinner in other areas. The .22RF selection is a seemingly random selection that changes, probably depending on what available. Still, I do visit regularly, and sometimes find good deals. I picked up a Frog Togs rain jacket that was on sale not long ago, and sometimes you'll see something interesting in the used firearms section. If you don't have a regular sporting goods store nearby, and you do t want to make a long trek to Cabelas, it's a hand place for many supplies.

He felt like he was doing me a favor even asking me if I wanted to look at anything. SAVE YOUR SELF SOME TIME AND SHOP AT BASS PRO CABELA'S OR DUNHAMS. It's right near the campus too so easy for people to get to if they are on campus or are coming onto campus by bus. I have 2 Nalgene bottles from here and I still have them after 3-4 years in good condition. This place has sales and a very popular place on MSU's campus even without sales. The staff doesn't burden you and let's you shop but can answer questions you have. My friends have bought sweatshirts and tshirts from here and they still have them in good quality. The sweatshirts are on the more expensive side but come in so many colors that they are preeeeety. :) If you're into North Face, they have a ton of NF apparel.

Right after I visited Backpackers Shop I went to another similar popular shop and was not impressed with it. I just wanted to go back to the Backpackers Shop because I knew they'd have multiple things to choose from for the needs. Not only do they have anything i think I might need for backpacking or hiking but their staff are a wealth of knowledge and experience. I talked with a guy who hiked the AT trail and another worker who had just hiked the trail I am planning to backpack through. They were a gold mine of knowledge and wise advice.
